  • KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute) is developing a bimodal tram since the 2003s. The vehicle will be used in the public transportation system. The bimodal tram has the advantages of both bus and train. Bus system has the advantages of flexibility of the routes delivering passengers to the destination and easy accessibility. Train is to meet the scheduled arrival and massive public transportations. The vehicle is the rubber tired tram and is all wheel steered single articulation. The propulsion system is configured by CNG hybrid system. The length of the vehicle is 18m. The vehicle lanes will be marked with permanent magnets that are buried in the road. The vehicle can be automatically operated by navigation control system (NCS). In this paper, we introduce the driving system of the bimodal tram which is developed by KRRI.

열해현상 방지를 위한 버스 엔진룸 구조개선 (Reengineering of Bus Engine Room Structure for Preventing Thermal Damages)

  • Four types of different flow inlet models were tested to improve the flow uniformity at the inlet of the radiator and to prevent thermal damages of auxiliary units from the hot air in the bus engine room. Measurements and numerical calculations were performed and their results were in a good agreement with each other. Simultaneously temperature measurements were carried out under the conditions of actual bus driving. As designing the new flow inlet at the partition board which seperates the engine space and radiator space, flow circulation can be achieved and fresh air comes into the engine room from the bottom. It was proved that new inlet makes the one air temperature cooling down in the engine room, the other uniformity improvement.

자율주행 버스의 종방향 제어를 위한 질량 및 종 경사 추정기 개발 (Vehicle Mass and Road Grade Estimation for Longitudinal Acceleration Controller of an Automated Bus)

  • This paper presents a vehicle mass and road grade estimator for developing an automated bus. To consider the dynamic characteristics of a bus varying with the number of passengers, the longitudinal controller needs the estimation of the vehicle's mass and road grade in real-time and utilizes the information to adjust the control gains. Discrete Kalman filter is applied to estimate the time-varying road grade, and the recursive least squares algorithm is adopted to account for the constant mass estimation. After being implemented in MATLAB/Simulink, the estimators are evaluated with the dynamic model and experimental data of the target bus. The proposed estimators will be applied to complement the algorithm of the longitudinal controller and proceed with algorithm verification.

행동기반 안전관리(Behavior Based Safety: BBS) 프로그램이 버스 기사 및 승객의 안전행동에 미치는 효과 검증: 현장 사례 연구 (The Effect of Behavior Based Safety Program on Safe Behaviors of Bus Drivers and Passengers: A Field Case Study)

  • This study examined the effect of Behavior Based Safety(BBS) program on safe behaviors of bus drivers and passengers. Four male bus drivers working at a H transportation company situated in Seoul participated in this study. BBS program consisted of education, prompts, and self-monitoring with goal setting. Dependent variables were the percentage of two safe driving behaviors of bus drivers (departure after stopping for 3 seconds, announcement for holding bus handles) and the percentage of one safe behavior of passengers getting on the busses those drivers drove (holding bus handles). A primary observer and two trained assistant observers measured two safe behaviors of the bus drivers with behavior checklists by riding on the busses and the passengers' safe behavior was observed by CCTV installed on each bus. An ABC multiple baseline design across participants was adopted. After baseline(A), education and prompts(B) and self-monitoring with goal setting(C) were introduced sequentially to each participant. The results showed that BBS program was effective to increase both bus drivers' and passengers' safe behaviors. Especially self-monitoring with goal setting was more effective in improving safe behaviors of bus drivers than education/prompts. These results suggest that education/prompts and self-monitoring with goal setting would be an alternative treatment technique to improve safety for lone workers such as bus drivers.

  • The chartered bus scheduling is to determine the allocation of buses to customer service requests. For the scheduling, we first represent the scheduling problem using a graph and develop a mathematical model. Second, we develop an algorithm for the scheduling problem including heuristic methods. We tested the performance of the algorithm on instances with real data. As a result, the total empty load driving time is reduced over 10% comparing with that of current practice at the company

  • Recently, many types of electric vehicles including a heavy duty vehicle have been developed and released because of the better fuel economy and less gas products. In this study, research about an electric bus which utilizes the wheel motor drive system was conducted. The wheel motor is a motor connected to the wheel directly only with a simple gear so that the developer can utilize the space efficiently and the whole system efficiency will be better because of simple structure. However, because it is different from former types of vehicles which use the differential gear, the development of the integrated control logic is required in order to meet the vehicle stability and driving performance. The developed control logic is composed with direct yaw moment control, regenerative braking control and slip control logics. It is compared to the control logics which does not consist of direct yaw moment control and slip control when the vehicle is exposed in tough situations. For the unification of the control logic, a few maps were developed and applied to determine the output torque of each motor according to the driving status. As a result, it is shown that the developed control logic is more safe and well follow the target speed than the other control logic applied simulations.

버스 승객의 안전한 하차를 위한 컴퓨터비전 기반의 차량 탐지 시스템 개발 (Computer Vision-based Method of detecting a Approaching Vehicle or the Safety of a Bus Passenger Getting off)

  • 본 논문은 컴퓨터 비전 기반의 인식 기법으로 주간 시내도로에 정차된 버스와 보도 사이로 접근하는 측후방 차량을 탐지하는 시스템을 설명한다. 이 시스템은 승객의 안전한 하차를 위해 버스 운전자와 승객에게 차량의 접근 유무를 알려준다. 버스의 측후방 영상은 버스가 정차할 때마다 버스 중앙 출입문 상단에 장착된 카메라에서 입력된다. 이 영상에서 버스와 보도 사이에 탐색영역을 설정하고 이 영역에서 영상의 변화와 소벨 필터링으로 차량을 탐지한다. 탐지된 차량의 중심점을 잡은 후, 위치 및 가로 세로의 크기를 이용하여 거리, 속도, 방향을 알아낸다. 이 정보를 이용하여 하차하는 승객에게 위험한 상황이라 판단될 경우, 운전자와 승객에게 위험을 알려준다. 실험결과로 시내 주행시 87% 이상의 탐지율을 나타내었다.

  • The purpose of this research is to identify new service opportunities for enhancing driving safety of intra-city buses based on driving behavior analysis. Service opportunity identification involves finding target customers of service (to whom), motivations for service (why), service contents (what), and service delivery process (when, where). This paper presents an analysis of driving behaviors using the operational data of intra-city buses in conjunction with traffic accident data and drivers' driving history data. This paper also presents four identified service opportunities based on the data analysis results. This research would contribute to enhancing driving safety of intra-city buses in Korea and serve as a basis for developing new services for driving safety enhancement.

중형저상버스의 개별주행모드에 따른 연료소비율 평가 (Evaluation of the Impact of Fuel Economy by Each of Driving Modes for Medium-Size Low-Floor Bus)

  • 국토교통부에서는 교통약자의 이동 편의 증진을 위하여 승하차에 편리한 저상버스를 도입하였다. 표준모델로 고시된 저상버스는 11 m 급, 압축천연가스(CNG, Compressed Natural Gas)를 사용하는 차량으로 개발되었다. 11 m 급 저상버스는 길이 좁은 농어촌 및 산간지역 도로여건에서의 운행과, CNG 연료의 특성상 충전시설의 한계로 인하여 연료보급의 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 국토교통부에서 교통약자의 이동편의 증진을 위해 진행하는 중형저상버스 표준모델 기술개발 과제의 일환으로 (주)타타대우상용차에서 제작한 LF-40을 대상으로 공차(CVW, Curb Vehicle Weight), 반적차(HVW, Half Vehicle Weight), 적차(GVW, Gross Vehicle Weight) 3가지 중량조건으로 실도로 타행주행을 통하여 주행저항 값을 취득하였고, WHVC, NIER-06, 복합 에너지 소비효율 측정 대상차량 외 차량의 에너지 소비 효율을 측정하기 위한 시험 방법인 정속주행 (60 km/h)모드를 사용하였다. 시험 결과 공차상태의 연비가 가장 좋았으며, 대표적으로 WHVC 모드에서는 공차대비 반적차는 3.5 %, 공차대비 적차는 12 % 연비소모율의 차이를 보였다. 60 km/h 정속 주행모드에서는 다른 시험모드와 다르게 공차보다 반적차의 연비가 높은 것으로 측정되었다. 추후 배출가스 데이터의 분석이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

연속주행시간을 고려한 운전자 위험운전행동의 정량화 방법 (Quantification Method of Driver's Dangerous Driving Behavior Considering Continuous Driving Time)

  • 본 연구는 운전자의 위험운전행동을 평가하고 정량화한 방법에 관한 것이다. 정량화 방법은 차량의 운행을 시작 이후 휴식 없이 연속적으로 주행한 시간, 과속, 급가속, 과속주행 시간 등 다양한 주행정보를 실시간으로 산출하도록 한다. 이러한 정량화된 위험운전행동 값은 개별로 안전운전지수로 제공하거나, 도로를 운행하는 운전자에 대하여 집단에 대한 평가 혹은 차량군에 대한 평가 등으로 객관화하는데 사용할 수 있다.
