Since the wireless optical communications system transmits informations through the atmosphere, it is subject to many effects of the constituent materials of atmosphere. The turbulence effect always exists in both clear and cloudy days. It causes a beam wandering, breathing, and scintillation. These disadvantageous phenomena degrade the performance of an optical communications system. In this paper, I designed a refractive index measuring system and subcarrier ASK optical communications system. Through this system I measured refractive index in May and in August. From these measurements, the minimum value of the refractive index in these period was about ${\approx}10^{-15}[m^{-2/3}]$ at night time and the maximum value was about ${\approx}10^{-12}[m^{-2/3}]$ at day time. The refractive index structure parameter. BER(bit error rate), and the burst length were measured simultaneously in these measurements. the theoretically predicted BER and the measured values showed a good agreement.

In this paper, a variable Reed-Solomon(RS) decoder with erasure decoding functionality is designed based on the modified Euclid's algorithm(MEA). The variability of the decoder is implemented through shortening and puncturing based on the RS(124, 108, 8) code, other than the primitive RS(255, 239, 8) code. This leads to shortening the decoding latency. The decoder performs 4-step pipelined operation, where each step is designed to be clocked by an independent clock. Thus by using a faster clock for the MEA block, the complexity and the decoding latency can be reduced. It can support both continuous- and burst-mode decoding. It has been designed in VHDL and synthesized in an FPGA chip, consuming 3,717 logic cells and 2,048-bit memories. The maximum decoding throughput is 33 MByte/sec.

Although Snoop protocol can enhance TCP throughput efficiently in a wired-cum-wireless environment, it has a problem in performing local packet retransmissions under a burst error-prone wireless link. AT-Snoop protocol is proposed to cope with this Snoop protocol's problem by adopting adaptive timer. In this paper, TCP throughputs of AT-Snoop protocol have been analyzed with varying wireless link conditions and the ways of setting parameters of AT-Snoop protocol for higher TCP throughput are found out through computer simulations. From the simulation results, AT-Snoop protocol's two parameters, local retransmission threshold value and local retransmission timeout value, are closely related with the fading changing rate. To get higher TCP throughput, local retransmission threshold value and local retransmission timeout value should be set to a little bit larger values than average WSRTT(Wireless Smoothed Round Trip Time) and mean bad period of the wireless link, respectively.

Snoop protocol is one of the efficient schemes to compensate TCP packet loss and enhance TCP throughput in wired-cum-wireless networks. However, Snoop protocol has a problem; it cannot perform local retransmission efficiently under the bursty-error prone wireless link. In this paper, we propose Enhanced Snoop(E-Snoop) protocol to solve this problem of Snoop protocol. With E-Snoop protocol, packet losses can be noticed by receiving new ACK packets as well as by receiving duplicate ACK packets or local retransmission timeout. Therefore, TCP throughput can be enhanced by fast recognition of bursty packet losses and fast local retransmissions. From the simulation results, E-Snoop protocol can improve TCP throughput more efficiently than Snoop protocol and can yield more TCP improvement especially in the channel with high packet loss rates.

BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS) is one of the four main types of global navigation satellite systems. The current system has been widely used by the military and by the aerospace, transportation, and marine fields, among others. However, challenges still remain in the BeiDou system, which requires rapid responses for delay-sensitive devices. A differential positioning algorithm called the data center-based differential positioning (DCDP) method is widely used to avoid the influence of errors. In this method, the positioning information of multiple base stations is uploaded to the data center, and the positioning errors are calculated uniformly by the data center based on the minimum variance or a weighted average algorithm. However, the DCDP method has high delay and overload risk. To solve these problems, this paper introduces edge computing to relieve pressure on the data center. Instead of transmitting the positioning information to the data center, a novel method called edge computing-based differential positioning (ECDP) chooses the nearest reference station to perform edge computing and transmits the difference value to the mobile receiver directly. Simulation results and experiments demonstrate that the performance of the ECDP outperforms that of the DCDP method. The delay of the ECDP method is about 500ms less than that of the DCDP method. Moreover, in the range of allowable burst error, the median of the positioning accuracy of the ECDP method is 0.7923m while that of the DCDP method is 0.8028m.

Toprovide economical BISDN service, with which integration process of many types of media is possible, it is necessary to construct a system with ground network and satellite network combined. The method for this type of transmission using satellite is TDMA that can provide services to many users in various area. However, the most difficult task to connect TDMA which uses synchronous method to ATM which used asynchronous transfer mode is the deterioration n of ATM transmission quality such as cell delay variation. Therefore, it is necessary to develop delay variation compensation method which can confront to the ATM. Efficient ways to use satellite links under the conditions such that maximum efficiency of the delay variation is limited under the required value, and the burst characteristic of transmission cell does not increase are being researched for translation between in ATM and TDMA. This paper points out the problems when time stamp method, reviewd in ground network, is applied to the satellite links to compensate the delay variation .To solve the problem, discrete cell count method is introduced along with the calculation of transmission capacity and error rate. Also, from the observation of stab-ility of the system and verification of reliability even when singal error occurred in the cell transmission timing information, the proposed compensation method appeared to be excellent.

A system-on-a-chip (SoC) design uses pre-verified IP hardware blocks in order to reduce design time. We need interface circuits to connect IPs with different protocols. In SoC design we should design interface circuits frequently and these tasks are somewhat time-consuming and error-prone. So it is necessary to generate the interface circuits automatically. Several studies have been made on generating interface circuits only from the communication protocols of IPs. With existing approaches, it is not easy to generate interface circuits connecting two IPs only from communication protocols: connection between IP with address and W without address, connection between IP with only one port to transfer address/data and IP with different ports for address and data connection between IP that transfer address and data together and IP that transfer only one address with a number of data in a burst. No consideration of various characteristics of IPs and no changed algorithm are responsible for it. In order to solve this problem, the proposed approach categorizes communication protocols of IPs, and takes characteristics matching of IPs into account during the interface synthesis. In experiments, we show that we could correctly generate and verify interface circuits for IPs with different characteristics.

Underwater acoustic communication channel is often defined as a multipath fading channel since the multipath arrivals from various paths interfere with each other and cause frequency dependent constructive or destructive interference in received signals. Therefore signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of received signal fluctuates as a function of frequency. In addition, sea surface fluctuation induces frequency dependent time variant signal fading due to coherent component variation of surface bounce path. The frequency shift keying (FSK) system is known to be less sensitive and more robust under these interference and fading, and M-ary frequency shift keying (MFSK) system is adopted to increase a data rate. In this study, a bit error rate (BER) of 4 channels 4FSK system are examined in shallow sea multipath channel. Experimental results show that RS code reduces efficiently the BER of 4FSK system since frequency dependent time-varying fading is characterized to give burst errors. The BER of a different data rate or different source-to-receiver range depends on not only the channel coherent bandwidth but also frequency dependent multipath fading.

Lost packet robustness is an most important quality measure for voice over IP networks(VoIP). Recovery of the lost packet from the received information is crucial to realize this robustness. So, this paper proposes the lost packet recovery method from the received information for real-time communication for CELP coder. The proposed BS-PLC (Both Side Packet Loss Concealment) based WSOLA(Waveform Shift OverLab Add) allow the lost packet to be recovered from both the 'previous' and 'next' good packet as the LP parameter and the excitation signal are respectively recovered. The burst of packet loss is modeled by Gilbert model. The proposed scheme is applied to G.729 most used in VoIP and is evaluated through the SNR(signal to noise) and the MOS(Mean Opinion Score) test. As a simulation result, The proposed scheme provide 0.3 higher in Mean Opinion Score and 2 dB higher in terms of SNR than an error concealment procedure in the decoder of G.729 at $20\%$ average packet loss rate.
