  • Meteor Burst Communication can provide effective and economical means of communication where long distance VHF NLOS data transmission is needed; often ranges more than 1000 km. It has been, however, so far considered unsuitable for short distance application because of phenomenal decrease in burst durations, which leads to decreation of total duty rate of the system. This paper extensively analyzes characteristics of shot distance MB(Meteor Burst) path and shows the low duty rate may be improved by increasing burst rate through adapting antenna beam width to cover entire hot-spot region in the space and, by compensating effective burst length through cutting down man-made noises introduced by antenna. Based on the analysis, we are developed a small-opening-cavity antenna, especially designed for short distance MB path. In operation, the antenna is to be buried under ground surface so as to improve directivity and reduces noise introduction. The antenna exhibits power gain of 3 dB with 90 degree beam width and thus enables to illuminate entire hot-spot regions with the elevation angle of 8-90 degree which is the case of transmission less than 100 km. Directivity horizontal to earth surface is suppressed to minimum which enables to cut man-made noises from near-by sources down to more than 3 dB from the level reported with conventional 4 element Yagi. A series of experiments performed on 100 km MB paths have conformed that, with the antenna installed at receiving site, the burst rate and duration time have been noticed to increase by 10 and 20 percent respectively from the values obtained by conventional 4-element Yagi antenna under same testing condition.

  • Despite of many advantages over conventional radio paths, application of the Meteor Burst Path in commercial communication system is so far limited to a few extent because of its low duty rate, which is, less than several percent at best. In order to get through maximum number of data bits during the short interval of each burst, which normally lives a fractions of a second, a sophisticated communication protocol is called for. In this paper, author introduces a communication protocol which can effectively locate and fetch burst signal by sending out periodic detection signal from master station and, with minimal delay, switch over to transmission states so as to put as many data bits through the detected burst as the burst length permits. By analyzing time period required for each transaction steps, the author derives optimal packet length for various bursts which assures to get a message string through in minimum delay. According to the analysis, the author proposes a protocol including a routine which automatically accesses average length of bursts at each environment and automatically adapt length of data packet so as to maximize data throughput under Riven burst conditions.

  • The circuits including with Optical transceiver and clock data recovery, in this paper, SERDES (SERializer-DESerializer) are implemented to construct a GE-PON burst-mode transceiver supporting IEEE 802.3ah and a jig for measuring the burst-mode characteristics, that is to say, PON upstream optical transmission environment are manufactured to evaluate the performance of transceiver. we verified that the limiting amplifier compensated the gap of max. 26dB optical power by experiments. The startup acquisition lock time is 670ns in case of using VSC7123 and 2300ns in case of S2060 and the data acquisition lock time were measured to be 400ns and 600ns, respectively, in the upstream channel transmission in this work. While on the other, VSC7123 is satisfied with IEEE802.3ah recommendations.

  • Smoothing is a transmission plan where variable rate video data is converted to a constant bit rate stream. These smoothing algorithms include CBA, MCBA, MVBA, PCRTT and others. But, these algorithms build a transmission plan per frame unit. So, these algorithms cause frame burst or GOP burst. In order to improve it, MVBAG algorithm build a transmission plan per GOP. But this algorithm may not guarantee QoS when frame's size is abruptly larger or smaller than the computed transmission rate. In this paper, a smoothing algorithm is proposed to enhance MVBAG algorithm's problem. In order to show the proposed algorithm's performance, the proposed algorithm is compared with MVBAG algorithm using various evaluation factors such as number of frames that do not meet the QoS, average transmission rate variability per frame, average transmission rate variability per GOP. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms MVBAG algorithm in number of frames that do not meet the QoS.

  • In As the proliferation of wireless LAN and smart devices like smart phone, the importance of the wireless Internet local broadcasting service is increasing. In order to provide broadcasting data for the multiple devices, one-way roadcasting technology which could not support re-transmission, should be used and the receiving frame error is major problem. Furthermore unlicense devices cause interference to the receiver, burst frame error tends to be happened. In this paper, new method to overcome the burst and random frame error is proposed and the effect is analyzed.

  • Glutamate is the most common excitatory amino acid in the brain. Responsiveness of dendrites to the glutamate greatly varies depending on the application sites. Especially, a point of the maximal response to the glutamate of the dendrite is called as 'hot spot'. In our experiment, the responsiveness of the hot spot to the glutamate was investigated in the CA1 pyramidal neuron of the rat hippocampal slice. CNQX, the antagonist of AMPA receptor, blocked 95% of membrane current to the glutamate focal application $(I_{gl}).$ Train ejection of glutamate on one point of the dendrite increased or decreased the amplitude of $I_{gl}$ with the pattern of train, and the changes were maintained at least for 30 min. In some cases, glutamate train ejection also induced calcium dependent action potentials. To evoke long-term change of synaptic plasticity, we adopted ${\theta}-burst$ in the glutamate train ejection. The ${\theta}-burst$ decreased the amplitude of glutamate response by 60%. However, after ${\theta}-burst$ glutamate train ejection, the calcium dependent action potential appeared. These results indicated that the focal application of glutamate on the neuronal dendrite induced response similar to the synaptic transmission and the trains of glutamate ejection modulated the change of AMPA receptor.

  • In spite of many advantages of Meteor Burst Communications(MBC) on its transmission channel, the fact that its duty rate is less than 10 percents is a considerable deficiency of MBC. To overcome with this deficiency without paying large cost, we use a direct sequence(DS) simple reception system. This method doesn't need to add the components for acquisition or tracking the signal so that it keeps the cost efficiency of the MBC. But it has a disadvantage that its duty rate shows a large decline by noise. For this problem we adopt the proposed system applying a transversal filter circuit. The improvement by this method is more significant when the received signal is weak Simulation results show as t1 is 100ms, then the burst length would be increased by 35% when the initial value of the received signal power increases by 3 dB, t2 is 135ms. If the power increases by 6dB the burst length would be 170ms thus increased by 70%, which shows a great enhancement. Suppose now that t1 is 50ms and the power is increased by 3dB, then t2 would be increased by 70% to 85ms, and increasing the power by 6dB it would be increased by 130% to 115ms.
