Removal of Pesticide (Oxamyl) from Water using Activated Carbons Developed from Apricot Stones

  • Four stream- activated carbons were prepared by carbonizing apricot stones at $600^{\circ}C$ followed by gasification with steam at $950^{\circ}C$ to burn-off's=17, 32, 49 and 65%. The textural parameters of these activated carbons were determined from nitrogen adsorption results at 77 K. The total pore volume and the mean pore radius increased with the increase of % burn-off whereas the surface area increased with the increase of burn- off from 17 to 32 and further to 49%. Further increase of burn-off to 65% was associated with a considerable decrease in surface area as a result of pronounced pore widening due to pore erosion. The surface pH values of the carbons investigated range between 7.1 and 8.2. The adsorption of oxamyl onto the activated carbon followed pseudo-second order kinetics and the equilibrium adsorption isotherms fitted Langmuir adsorption model. The adsorption of oxamyl proved to be of the physical type and took place in non-micropores. The amount of oxamyl adsorbed expressed as $q_m$ depends to a large extent to the surface area located in non-micropores $S^{\propto}\;_n$, where a straight line relationship passing through the origin was obtained.

산불피해지역에서 정규산화율지수와 정규식생지수의 비교분석 (Comparative Analysis between Normalized Burn Ration and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index in Forest Fire Damage Area)

  • 위성영상자료를 통해 각 파장대별로 기록된 지표면에 대한 반사특성정보로 정규산화율지수(NBR)나 정규식생지수(NDVI)를 구하여 산림에 대한 분석을 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 산불이 발생한 강릉시 사천면 지역을 중심으로 산불 발생이전 산림이 온전하였던 시기의 영상과 산불 발생 직 후, 발생 1년 후 그리고 2년 후의 영상으로 정규산화율지수와 정규식생지수를 각각 구하여 이 지수를 비교 분석함으로써 정규산화율지수의 효용성을 강조하였다. 그 결과 NBR영상간 차이가 NDVI영상간 차이보다 큰 범위의 동적변화를 보이고 있으므로 산불 피해강도나 식생회복상태 분석 시 NBR영상을 사용하는 것이 좋을 것으로 판단되며, 산불피해 지역에서도 NBR 영상이 NDVI영상보다 산림피해강도나 회복상태를 더욱 뚜렷하게 보여주고 있다.

Kompsat-3A호 영상을 활용한 산불피해 강도 산정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Estimation of Forest Burn Severity Using Kompsat-3A Images)

  • 기후변화 등으로 인해 전 세계적으로 산불이 점점 잦아지고 대형화되는 추세다. 위성영상 등의 원격탐사를 통한 산불피해 면적 및 피해강도를 산정하는 것은 현장조사에 따른 여러 가지 어려움을 줄일 수 있어 대안 및 보조자료로 활용이 가능하다. 산불피해강도(differenced normalized burn ratio, dNBR)는 산불 전후의 정규탄화지수(normalized burn ratio, NBR) 차이를 통해 산정하며, NBR 수식에 사용되는 영상은 Landsat의 근적외선(near infrared, NIR)과 단적외선(short-wavelength infrared, SWIR) 밴드를 기본으로 한다. 우리나라 위성영상의 경우, SWIR 밴드를 가지고 있지 않기 때문에 산불피해와 관련한 국내 연구들은 해외영상을 사용하거나 우리나라 위성영상을 사용한 경우, 정규식생지수(normalized difference vegetation index, NDVI)를 이용하여 간접적인 방법으로 dNBR을 산출하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Kompsat-3A호(K3A)의 중적외선(mid-wavelength infrared, MWIR) 밴드를 NBR 수식의 SWIR 밴드 대신 대입하여 dNBR을 산정하고, dNBR의 기준이 되는 Landsat을 이용한 dNBR 결과 값과 비교하였다. 그 결과 K3A MWIR을 이용한 dNBR이 Landsat SWIR을 이용한 dNBR에 비해 나타낼 수 있는 값의 범위가 더 넓고 세분화하여 표현이 가능하였다. 따라서 산불피해 지역을 조사하는데 있어 K3A의 활용도가 높을 것이라 사료된다. 뿐만 아니라 본 연구에서는 30m로 열화된 K3A MWIR 밴드를 사용했으나 그보다 높은 해상도의 MWIR 밴드를 사용한다면 본 연구보다 훨씬 더 나은 결과를 얻을 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.

LPI 레이더에 대한 원격지원 재머의 주엽 재밍 효과 (Jamming Effect of Stand-Off Jammer to Main Lobe of LPI Radar)

  • 본 논문은 저 측엽 안테나를 사용하는 LPI(Low Probability Interceptor)레이다를 재밍하는 원격지원 재머의 특성에 대하여 기술한다. LPI 레이다는 재밍 영향을 줄이기 위해서 송수신 안테나의 측엽을 감소시킨다. 레이다는 재머가 표적과 같은 위치에 있는 자체보호 재머에 대해서는 재밍 효과를 쉽게 예측할 수 있으나, 표적과 다른 위치에서 재밍하는 원격지원 재머에 대해서는 재밍 효과를 예측하기가 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 LPI 레이다의 측엽을 재밍하는 원격지원 재머의 재밍 효과를 신호재밍비(SJR)와 재밍 유효 한계거리를 사용하여 분석하였다. 또한 안테나의 측엽이 -30dB 이하인 경우에는 재밍 효과가 미약하여, 안테나 주엽에 대한 원격지원 재밍 방법을 제안하고 재밍 효과를 분석하였다. 본 연구는 항공기용 원격지원 재머 설계 및 운용에 유용하게 사용될 것으로 판단된다.

흡인성 화상에 의한 후두 손상 (Laryngeal Inhalation Injury)

  • Background and Objectives : A burn injury to the glottis differs from a burn injury to the trachea, bronchi, and lung parenchyma, in that thermal injury does not occur to any significant degree below the level of the larynx, due to the effective cooling of air by the upper airway and to reflex closure of the vocal cords from a blast of hot air. Therefore, the laryngeal inhalation injury give rise to airway problem and voice change. The objectives of this study is to assess management of laryngeal inhalation injury and voice change after management. Materials and Methods : Voice choses and laryngeal injuries of eight laryngeal inhalation patients were analyzed through questionnaire, voice dynamic laboratory, and laryngeal stroboscopy. Operative management was performed to five patients for airway patiency and vocal cord movement on laryngeal pathology ind voice therapy was performed to all patients. One-year after, voice changes and laryngeal injuries were reanalyzed with same methods. Results : Vocal breathiness, decreased voice intensity, reduced voice range, and easy fatigability were major complaints of laryngeal inhalation patients. Glottic stenosis were developed to five of eight patients, and vocal cord atrophy, bowing were developed to others. Vocal cord mucosal waves were significantly decreased in all patients. Jitter(%), Shimmer(dB) were increased and Maximal phonation time(MPT) was decreased. One-year after, subjective voice changes and objective voice parameters were improved. And vocal cord mucosal waves were recovered in all patients. Conclusions : Subjective voice quality and objective voice parameters were improved after operative management for laryngeal pathology and voice therapy. And we observed recovery of vocal fold mucosal waves by laryngeal stroboscopy. We think that early preventable tracheotomy is necessary to reduce the laryngeal contact injury in laryngeal inhalation patients.

A Structural Study of the Activated Carbon Fibers as a Function of Activation Degrees

  • Isotropic pitch-based carbon fiber was isothermally activated in $CO_2$ atmosphere. Structural parameters of the isotropic carbon fibers and activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The $d_{002}$ and La of the carbon fibers were measured to be 4.04 ${\AA}$ and 23.6 ${\AA}$ and those of ACFs were 4.29 ${\AA}$ and 22.7 ${\AA}$, respectively, representing less ordered through activation process. The pores in the ACFs were characterized by BET, and they showed super-high specific surface area of maximum value 3,495 $m^2/g$ from average pore size of 8.3 ${\AA}$ at 59% burn-off. It was recognized that 8-9 ${\AA}$ was optimum range of pore size for efficient creation of high specific surface area. The average size of the pores formed at higher temperature ($1100^{\circ}C$) was larger than that of the pores formed at lower temperature ($900^{\circ}C$).

원자로의 반응도와 온도계수 (Temperature Coefficient of Reactioity)

  • The stability and safety of operation of a reactor is determined mainly by the sign and magnitude of its reactivity responses to temperature changes. Reactors are subject to temperature fluctuations due to the changes in reactor power and ambient temperature. These temperature fluctuations cause reactivity disturbances through changes in the nuclear and physical properties of the core. Because of these important phenomena by the temperature effects, a large portion of study and testing on a reactor design has been conducted. In this experiment the overall temperature coefficient of the TRIGA MARK-II reactor is measured. The basic procedure is to change the tgemperature of the water moderator, and from the movements of a newly recalibrated control rod(this is necessary due to the effects of fuel burn-up and control rod depression) required to mintain criticality, the reactivity worth of the temperature change is determined. From this measurement, the overall temperature coefficient seems to be smoothly varying, almost a linear function of temperature, and a value of approximately -0.267${\c}$/$^{\circ}C$ can be obtained for an average temperature range from $17.6^{\circ}C$ to $32.5^{\circ}C$.

산화반응에 의한 이방성 메조페이스 탄소섬유의 구조 변화(II)-주사전자현미경을 이용한 표면구조 관찰 (Structural Changes during Oxidation Process of Anisotopic Mesophase Carbon Fibers(II)-Surface Texture Observation by Scanning Electron Microscopy)

  • Anisotropic mesophase carbon fiber(AMCFs) was exposed to isothermal oxidation in air and $CO_2$atmosphere, and burn-off rates have measured by TGA. The microstructure changes of oxidized carbon fibers, were observed by SEM. It was observed that oxidation rate in the air is over 100 times faster than that in $CO_2$atmosphere. The activation energy obtained in air was about 43.4 Kcal/mole in the temperature range of $600∼800^{\circ}C$, and in $CO_2$was about 55.2 Kcal/mole in the temperature range of $950∼1200^{\circ}C$. Therefore, the oxidation reaction in both atmospheres was under chemical reaction regime in the above temperature ranges. It was shown that the oxidation of the AMCFs is initiated at the end of fibers at high temperature($1100^{\circ}C$) with developing the large pores, and the small pores are developed on the fiber surface at low temperature($900^{\circ}C$). In conclusion, the oxidation of the AMCFs is progressed through the imperfection.

Heavy-duty HCNG엔진의 연소 및 배기성능 최적화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Optimization of Combustion and Emission Performance in a Heavy-duty HCNG Engine)

  • 도심 대기오염을 줄이고자 도입된 CNG 버스는 현재의 배기규제 기준을 만족시켜 도시 대기환경 개선에 많은 기여를 했지만 추가적인 후처리 장치의 도움 없이는 차기 배기기준인 유로6 배기규제를 만족시키기 매우 어렵다. 수소는 매우 활발하고 빠른 반응성을 가지고 있으며 희박가연한계 또한 매우 넓어 기존 연료와 함께 사용 시 개선된 연소 및 배기성능을 기대할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 시내버스용 대형 CNG 엔진에 수소를 일정 부분 CNG와 혼합한 HCNG 연료를 공급하여 희박연소를 시킴으로서 연소 및 배기성능을 개선하는 실험을 수행하였다. 수소혼합비율, 공연비, 점화시기 변화에 따른 연소 및 배기성능을 살펴보고 최적운전조건을 찾아내었으며 산화촉매 성능평가를 통해 11리터 버스용 HCNG 엔진의 상용화 가능성을 검토하였다.

Enhancing the Fire Performance of Concrete-Filled Steel Columns through System-Level Analysis

  • The use of concrete filling offers a practical alternative for achieving the required stability of steel Hollow Structural Section (HSS) columns under fire conditions. However, current methods for evaluating fire resistance of Concrete Filled Hollow Structural Steel (CFHSS) columns are highly conservative as they are based on an elemental approach without due consideration to structural interactions that occur in framed structural systems. To overcome this limitation, a system level fire resistance analysis was carried out by treating CFHSS columns as part of an overall structural frame. In this analysis, an eight story steel-framed building was modeled under a range of standard and performance-based fire scenarios (including multi-story progressive burn-out fires) to evaluate the contribution of various structural members/assemblies to overall fire resistance. One of the primary factors considered was the use of concrete filling in HSS columns as an alternative to standard W-shape columns. Results from the analysis indicate that the use of CFHSS columns, in place of W-shape columns, in a performance-based environment can fully eliminate the need for applied fire protection to columns, while providing the required level of structural fire resistance.
