각종 Nozzle을 통하여 저장조내로 유입되는 BUOYANT JETS의 유동해석 (Flow analysis of Buoyant Jets into Storage Tank through Variable Nozzles)

  • The Buoyant Jets were analysed experimentally changing flow rate (0.0291/s, 0.0371/s, 0.0451/s), ratio of nozzle tip area to throat area (aspect ratio ${\beta}$=0.4, 1.0, 1.9), and also the temperature difference (${\Delta}T=Ti-T{\infty}$) between the temperature of the inflow water into the storage tank ($1m{\times}1m{\times}3m$) and the mean temperature of the water in the storage tank were changed as $25^{\circ}C,\;35^{\circ}C$ and $45^{\circ}C$. The more aspect ratio decreased, the more the trajectories of Buoyant Jets center-line were decreased and not the more the trajectories of Buoyant Jets centerline were influenced by the increment of the difference of the temperature. The more aspect ratio decreased, the more the half widths and dilution ratio of Buoyant Jets were increased and not the more the half widths and dilution ratio of Buoyant Jets were influenced by the increment of the difference of the temperature. Fr number is the factor that can predict the flow pattern over the whole flow field. And yet for the consideration the near field of Buoyant Jets flow pattern is dominated by magnitude of momentum and buoyancy force.

정체수역으로 방류된 수평병합부력제트의 진동운동에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Investigation on the Flapping Motions of Horizontal Merging Buoyant Jet Discharged into Stationary Ambient Water)

  • 본 연구에서는 정체수역으로 방류되는 수평병합부력제트에 대한 실험을 수행하여, 평민제트의 고유한 특징으로만 알려져 왔던 진동운동에 대해 구명하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 진동운동은 병합부력제트에서도 확인되었으며, 특히 병합천이역 시점에서부터 관찰되었다. 흐름의 국부적인 특성치와 진동운동을 야기하는 와의 통과빈도와의 관계를 나타내는 Strouhal수는 병합천이역에서 변화하여 병합이 완전히 이루어진 후에는 일정한 값으로 수렴하는 것으로 관측되었다. 평면제트에 대해서 구해진 진동운동의 특성이 병합천이역과 국부흐름특성치의 변화를 고려할 경우, 병합부력제트의 진동운동도 나타낼 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • Fully three-dimensional Large Eddy Simulation calculations of the flow past 2D cavity are conducted to study the purging of neutrally buoyant or dense miscible contaminants introduced instantaneously inside the cavity. The length to depth ratio(L/D) is 2 and Reynolds number based on the depth is 3,360. Fully developed turbulent inflow are fed at the inlet from precursor simulation of channel flow. Mean flow pattern and unsteady features are investigated based on the experimental data of Pereira and Sousa. From the study of mass exchange processes, it is found that the mechanism of removal of the contaminant is very different between the non-buoyant and buoyant cases. In the buoyant case, internal wave motion which interacts with a strong cavity vortex is dominant in the ejection mechanism of the contaminants.

원형바닥젵의 유속구조 해석 (Analysis of Velocity Structure of Round Wall Jet)

  • 본 연구에서는 실험개수로에 온수방류용 방류규가 있는 방파제의 모형을 설피하여 바닥\ulcorner의 유속분포를 측정하였다. 또한 3차원의 모형인 Fluent 모형을 이용하여 방파제의 방류구로부터 배출된 바닥젵의 유속구조를 수치모의하여 실험결과와 비교.검증하였으며 흐름특성을 규명하였다. 바닥젵은 자유젵에 비하여 흐름의 확립구간이 짧았으며, 종방향거리에 대한 젵 중앙유속의 감쇠율이 자유젵보다 크게 나타나고 있음이 밝혀졌다. 단순젵과 부력젵의 젵 중앙선에서의 종방향유속을 비교한 결과, 방류구 근처에서는 부력\ulcorner의 유속이 크게 발생하나 x/lQ가 15보다 큰 구간에는 도리어 작게 된다. 종방향유속의 연직분포를 비교한 결고, 방류구로부터 멀어질수록 저층에서는 단순젵의 유속이 크게 나타나며 상충에서는 단순젵의 부의 유속이 크게 나타나고 있음이 밝혀졌다. 또한 부력젵의 경우 자유수면에서의 유속의 분리가 단순젵보다 방류구로부터 가까운 거리에서 발생한다. 부력젵의 연직방향으로의 폭은 단순젵의 폭보다 빨리 확장된다.

  • When large size nozzle with low jet velocity is used, the buoyancy effect arises from the density difference among propane, air, and burnt gas. Flame characteristics in such buoyant jets have been investigated numerically to elucidate the effect of buoyancy on lifted flames. It has been demonstrated that the cold jet has circular cone shape since upwardly injected propane jet decelerates and forms stagnation region. In contrast to the cold flow, the reacting flow with a lifted flame has no stagnation region by the buoyancy force induced from the burnt gas. To further illustrate the buoyancy effect on lifted flames, the reacting flow with buoyancy is compared with non-buoyant reacting flow. Non-buoyant flame is stabilized at much lower height than the buoyant flame. At a certain range of fuel jet velocities and fuel dilutions. an oscillating flame is demonstrated numerically showing that the height of flame base and tip vary during one cycle of oscillation. Under the same condition. non-buoyant flame exhibits only steady lifted flames. This confirms the buoyancy effect on the mechanism of lifted flame oscillation.

Flow Characteristics of Neutrally Buoyant Particles in 2-Dimensional Poiseuille Flow through Circular Capillaries

  • An experimental study has been conducted to quantitatively characterize the motion of neutrally buoyant particles in 2-dimensional Poiseuille flow through the micron-sized circular capillaries in the range of Re (Reynolds number) $\approx0.1\sim100$. $A{\mu}-PTV$ (Particle Tracking Velocimetry) system is adopted, which consists of a double-headed Nd:YAG laser, an epi-fluorescence microscope and a cooled CCD camera. Since high shear rate can be induced due to the scale effect even at low Re, it is shown that in micro scale neutrally buoyant particles in Poiseuille flow drift away from the wall and away from the center of the capillary. Consequently, particles accumulate at the equilibrium position of $0.52\sim0.64R$ with R being the radius of the capillary, which is analogous to that of tube flow in macro scale. There is a plateau in equilibrium position at small Re, while equilibrium position starts increasing at $Re\approx30$. The outermost edge of particle cluster is closer to the center of the capillary than that in previous studies due to low Re effect. The present study quantitatively presents characteristics of particle motion in circular capillaries. Furthermore, it is expected to give optimum factors for designing microfluidic systems that are to be used fur plasma separation from the blood.

  • A numerical investigation is made of three-dimensional buoyant convection of a Boussinesq-fluid in a vertical cylinder. The top and bottom endwalls are thermally insulated. Flow is driven by the substantial azimuthal variations in thermal boundary conditions. Comprehensive numerical solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations are obtained. The representative Rayleigh number is large, thus, the overall flow pattern is of boundary layer-type. Three-dimensional (low characteristics are described. Specially, the global flow and the heat transfer features are delineated when the severity of azimuthal variation of sidewall temperature n, is intensified. Temperature and velocity fields on the meridional planes and the planes of constant height are presented. The global flow weakens as n becomes large. The pattern of the local Nusselt number on the surface of cylinder is similar regardless of n. The convective gain in heat transfer activities is reduced as n increases.

  • The flow structure and heat transfer characteristics of a turbulent buoyant jet were investigated experimentally. The instantaneous temperature and velocity fields in the near field were measured using a two-frame PIV and PLIF techniques. A thin light sheet illuminated a two-dimensional cross section of the buoyant jet in which Rhodamine B was added as a fluorescent dye. The intensity variations of LIF signal from Rhodamine B molecules scattered by the laser light were captured by a CCD camera after passing an optical filter. By ensemble averaging the instantaneous temperature and velocity fields, the mean temperature and velocity fields as well as the spatial distributions of turbulent statistics were obtained. The results show the flow structure and convective heat transfer of the developing shear layer in the near field.

  • 이차원 표층방류 밀도분류의 거동을 조사하기 위하여 k-$\varepsilon$ 이방정식 수치모델을 개발하였다. 평균류 및 난류수송에 관한 계산결과를 실험결과와 비교하여 본 수치모델이 이들의 흐름특성을 양호하게 예측할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 방류구에 있어서의 k 및 $\varepsilon$의 설정이 표층 밀도분류의 흐름에 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 평가하였다. 또한, 많은 연구에서 무시되어 왔던 $\varepsilon$ 방정식에 있어서의 부력생성항 및 계수 $C\varepsilon$$_3$의 값에 대한 검토를 행하여 흐름의 전개에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 이차원표층 밀도분류에 관한 계산결과를 제시하고 중요한 몇가지 흐름특성에 대하여 토의하였다.

  • 음부력(陰浮力)을 갖는 유체가 수평정지수역(水平靜止水域)으로 유입(流入)되어 일어나는 밀도류(密度流)의 거동이 유한차분기법에 의하여 수치적(數値的)으로 해석된다. 정지수역에서 plunge 흐름의 모양은 유입밀도(流入密度) Froude수(數) $Fr_e$에 크게 영향을 받으며 밀도류전면속도(密度流前面速度)는 음부력(陰浮力)의 증가 즉 $Fr_e$의 감소에 따라 증가한다. plunge point의 최대여행거리(最大旅行距離)와 안정(安定) plunge point는 뚜렷하게 무차원시간 T와 $Fr_e$의 함수로 나타난다. 음부력흐름(또는 plunge point)의 좌우에 와(渦)가 큰 규모로 발달된다.
