One of the most feasible solution for reducing the excessive energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission is usage of more efficient fuel such as hydrogen. As is well known, there are three viable technologies for storing hydrogen fuel: compressed gas, metal hydride absorption, and cryogenic liquid. In these technologies, the storage for liquid hydrogen has better energy density by weight than other storage methods. However, the cryogenic liquid storage has a significant disadvantage of boiling losses. That is, high performance of thermal insulation systems must be studied for reducing the boiling losses. This paper presents an experimental study on the effective thermal conductivities of the composite layered insulation with aerogel blankets($Cryogel^{(R)}$ Z and $Pyrogel^{(R)}$ XT-E) and Multi-layer insulation(MLI). The aerogel blankets are known as high porous materials and the good insulators within a soft vacuum range($10^{-3}{\sim}1$ Torr). Also, MLI is known as the best insulator within a high vacuum range(<$10^{-6}{\sim}10^{-3}$ Torr). A vertical axial cryogenic experimental apparatus was designed to investigate the thermal performance of the composite layered insulators under cryogenic conditions as well as consist of a cold mass tank, a heat absorber, annular vacuum space, and an insulators space. The composite insulators were laminated in the insulator space that height was 50 mm. In this study, the effective thermal conductivities of the materials were evaluated by measuring boil-off rate of liquid nitrogen and liquid argon in the cold mass tank.

In this study, micro-sized and nano-sized pure aluminum (Al) powders were compressed by unidirectional pressure at room temperature. Although neither type of Al bulk was heated, they had a high relative density and improved mechanical properties. The microstructural analysis showed a difference in the process of densification according to particle size, and the mechanical properties were measured by the Vickers hardness test and the nano indentation test. The Vickers hardness of micro Al and nano Al fabricated in this study was five to eight times that of ordinary Al. The grain refinement effect was considered to be one of the strengthening factors, and the Hall-Petch equation was introduced to analyze the improved hardness caused by grain size reduction. In addition, the effect of particle size and dispersion of aluminum oxide in the bulk were additionally considered. Based on these results, the present study facilitates the examination of the effect of particle size on the mechanical properties of compacted bulk fabricated by the powder metallurgy method and suggests the possible way to improve the mechanical properties of nano-crystalline powders.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of polishing methods on the color stability of composite resins. Materials and Methods: Two bulk-fill and four conventional resin composites were filled in cylindrical molds (6 mm diameter, 4 mm height) and light-cured. The specimens were stored in $34^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 h. Spectrophotometer was used to determine the color value according to the CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color space. Each group was divided into three groups according to polishing methods (n = 5). Group 1 was control group (Mylar strip group), group 2 was polished with PoGo, and group 3 was polished with Sof-Lex Spiral wheels. Color evaluation was performed weekly for 4 weeks after immersion in $34^{\circ}C$ distilled water. The results were analyzed by generalized least squares method (P < 0.05). Results: Generalized least squares analysis revealed that Sof-Lex Spiral wheels group showed the significantly lower ${\Delta}E$ values compared to PoGo and control group (P < 0.05). The ${\Delta}E$ values of polished group showed the significantly lower than the ${\Delta}E$ values of unpolished group (P < 0.05). Regarding color changes of composite resins, there was no significant difference between the ${\Delta}E$ values of Filtek Z250 and Filtek Z350 XT Universal restorative in all time intervals (P < 0.05). Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill showed the significantly lower ${\Delta}E$ values compared to other composite resins in 1, 2, 3 weeks (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, polishing methods influence the color stabilities of composite resins. The group polished with Sof-Lex Spiral Wheels showed more resistance to discoloration than group polished with PoGo.
The Cu-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) composites containing Zr-based metallic glass phase have been consolidated by spark plasma sintering using the mixture of Cu-based and Zr-based metallic glass powders in their overlapped supercooled liquid region. The Zr-based metallic glass phases are well distributed homogeneously in the Cu-based metallic glass matrix after consolidation process. The successful consolidation of BMG composites with dual amorphous phases was corresponding to the sound viscous flow of the two kinds of metallic glass powders in their overlapped supercooled liquid region.
An in situ experiment imaged via X-ray computed tomography was performed on a continuous glass fiber mat reinforced epoxy resin composite. The investigated dogbone specimen was subjected to uniaxial cyclic tension. The reconstructed scans (i.e., gray level volumes) were registered via Digital Volume Correlation. The calculated maximum principal strain fields and correlation residual maps exhibited strain localization areas within the material bulk, thus indicating damage inception and growth toward the specimen surface. Strained bands and areas of elevated correlation residuals were mainly concentrated in the narrowest gauge section of the investigated specimen, as well as on the specimen ligament edges. Gray level residuals were laid over the corresponding mesostructure to highlight and characterize damage development within the material bulk.
Nano composite particles were synthesized from a bulk ZrVFe alloy ingot by transferred DC thermal plasma. Effects of plasma gas flow rate on the characteristics of the produced nano composite particles were investigated. The characteristics of the synthesized powder were analyzed by field scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), light scattering particle size analyzer (PSA), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analyzer. As the flow rate of plasma gas increased from 20 L/min to 40 L/min, the average particle size decreased from 91 nm to 55 nm, the particle size distribution became narrower, the surface area increased from $200\;m^2/g$ to $255\;m^2/g$, the particle composition was nearly unaffected, and the particle crystallinity was improved.
In this paper, fracture behavior of laminated composites with notch was studied by cohesive zone modeling approach. The numerical modeling proceeded by first generating 3 dimensional solid element meshes for notched laminated composite coupon configurations. Then cohesive elements representing failure modes of fiber fracture, matrix cracking and delamination were inserted between bulk elements in all regions where the corresponding failures were likely to occur. Next, progressive failure analyses were performed simulating uniaxial tensile tests. The numerical results were compared to those by experiment available in the literature for verification of the analysis approach. Finally, notched laminated composite configurations with selected stacking sequences were analyzed and the failure behavior was carefully examined focusing on the failure initiation and progression and the dominating failure modes.
With the recent remarkable improvements in the average speeds of contemporary trains, a necessity has arisen for the development of new friction modifiers to improve adhesion characteristics at the wheel-rail interface. The friction modifier must be designed to reduce slippage or sliding of the trains' wheels on the rails under conditions of rapid acceleration or braking without excessive rolling contact wear. In this study, a novel composite material consisting of metal, ceramic, and polymer is proposed as a friction modifier to improve adhesion between wheels and rails. A blend of Al-6Cu-0.5Mg metallic powder, $Al_2O_3$ ceramic powder, and Bakelite-based polymer in various weight-fractions is hot-pressed at $150^{\circ}C$ to form a bulk composite material. Variation in the adhesion coefficient is evaluated using a high-speed wheel-rail friction tester, with and without application of the composite friction modifier, under both dry and wet conditions. The effect of varying the weighting fractions of metal and ceramic friction powders is detailed in the paper.
Co fine particles were dispersed in Au metal and $AlO_x$ amorphous matrices by vacuum evaporation and rf-sputtering, respectively, thus forming granular composite films having chemical compositions of $Co_{0.59}-Au_{0.41}$ and $Co_{0.52}/(AlO_x$)_{0.48}$. The films were annealed at 200~$500^{\circ}C$ to increase the size of the Co particles, from 30$\AA$ to 180$\AA$ in the Au matrix and 40$\AA$ to 180$\AA$ in the $AlO_x$ matrix, as revealed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The Co metal in as-deposited films have saturation magnetization equivalent to that of bulk Co, which is unchanged by the annealing, showing that the Co metal is not oxidized by the annealing. Magneto-optical Kerr rotation measured at $\lambda$=400-900nm for the $Co_{0.59}-Au_{0.41}$ film as deposited is larger than that calculated for the composition. The rotation increases as the film is annealed at $200^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$, approaching to that of bulk Co. The Kerr rotation for the $Co_{0.52}-(AlO_x)_{0.48}$ film as deposited is smaller than that calculated for the composition based on Bruggeman effective medium theory. However, the rotation increases much, exceeding the rotation of the bulk Co as annealed at $300^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$. As a possible origin of the marked magneto-optical enhancement a weak localization of light in granular structure is suggested.

This paper introduces 3 type of OTAs with $0.35-{\mu}m$ standard CMOS technology for Low-Power, Low-Voltage. The first type is a two-stage OTA designed to operate with a 1-V VDD and it has $1.774{\mu}W$ low power consumption. All transistors are operating in strong inversion. It takes Gm-Enhancement techniques to compensate gm, which is lowered by Bulk-Driven technique and has an Wide swing current mirror for low voltage operation and a Class-A output. The second type is a Two-stage OTA designed to operate with a 0.8-V VDD and It has 52nW low power consumption and 112dB high gain. The current mirror uses Composite Transistor binding Gates of two MOSFET to raise Rout which is similar with cascode structure. The third type is a Two-stage OTA designed to operate with a 0.6-V VDD and It has 160nW low power consumption and 72dB high gain. It takes Level Shift technique by Common Gate structure to amplify signals without additional bias voltage at second stage.
