  • Composite resin becomes an essential material in pediatric dentistry. However, incremental filling of composite resin to minimize the polymerization shrinkage takes time. To reduce the polymerization shrinkage, clinicians and researchers have focused on bulk-filling materials. Bulk-base composite resin is newly introduced as bulk-filling composite resin. The purpose of this study was to evaluate microhardness profile of bulk-base composite resin according to the depth of cure. A high flow bulk-base material and a low flow bulk-base material were used for experimental group, and a conventional composite resin was used for control group. Each group consist of 20 specimens, $3.5{\times}3.5{\times}5.0mm$ mold was used to make specimen. Specimens were sectioned at the 2 mm and the 3 mm depth with milling machine. Microhardness profile was measured at the surface, 2 mm depth, 3 mm depth, and 4 mm depth. Microhardness of control group showed statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) according to the polymerization depth. In contrast, experimental group showed no statistically significant difference, except between 0 mm and 4 mm at HFB, 0 mm and 2 mm, 0 mm and 3 mm at MFB. At the surface and the 2 mm depth, the control group showed higher microhardness than the experimental groups (p < 0.05). However, at the 4 mm depth, the experimental groups showed significantly higher microhardness (p < 0.05). The results from this study, the bulk-base composite resin showed higher microhardness at the 4 mm and lower microhardness at the surface and the 2 mm depth. Therefore, if bulk-base resin overcomes the mechanical weakness, it could be considered using in pediatric dentistry.

  • To analyze and describe the behavior and mechanisms occurring in the thermal oxidation process of AlN, bulk AlN single crystals were thermally treated with different temperatures. As a result, it was confirmed that full-scale oxidation of bulk AlN and growth of Al-oxide occurred from the temperature of 800℃, which confirmed that the weight% of O elements tended to increase while the N elements decreased with increasing the temperature. In the case of thermal treatment at 900℃, the grown Al-oxides were merged with neighboring Al-oxides and began to form α-Al2O3 poly-crystals. During thermal treatment at the temperature of 1000℃, hexagonal pyramidal shaped poly-crystalline α-Al2O3 was clearly observed. Through the X-ray diffraction pattern analysis, the changes of surface crystal structure according to the temperature of bulk AlN were investigated in detail.

  • Nano laminated bulk $Ti_3SiC_2$ was synthesized by hot press process using TiCx/Si powder mixture at the temperature range of $1300^{\circ}C\sim1500^{\circ}C$. pure $Ti_3SiC_2$ was synthesized by a hot pressing above $1400^{\circ}C$, while unreacted TiCx were remained in bulk $Ti_3SiC_2$ which synthesized below $1400^{\circ}C$. The sintering density of bulk $Ti_3SiC_2$ were varied with the amount of TiCx. It was found that the mechanical properties and micro structures of bulk $Ti_3SiC_2$ were closely related to the amounts of TiCx which was controlled by the hot pressing temperature. The TiCx increase the flexural strength of bulk $Ti_3SiC_2$, while the fracture toughness and thermal shock resistance of bulk $Ti_3SiC_2$ were decreased with the content of TiCx. The plastic deformations of bulk $Ti_3SiC_2$ were appeared above $1000^{\circ}C$.

  • A computer simulation was carried out to determinate the optimum capacity of bulk type trailer which is used as a tractor attachment. Soil physical properties. such as soil moisture content. bulk density, soil hardness and soil texture were measured in the 10 major rice production area for computer simulation. Mathematical model which include soil physical properties and vehicle factor was used for computer simulation. Most of the soil texture of the investigated area was silty loam. Soil moisture content ranged between 30 and 40% mostly. Soil bulk density was in the range of 1.500 to 1.700 kg/㎥. Soil hardness ranged between 1 to 18 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Soil hardness incorporate the effects of many soil physical properties such as moisture content texture and bulk density, and so the range of soil hardness was greater than any other physical properties. The capacity of bulk type trailer was above 3000 kg$_{f}$ fer the most of the investigated area. and mostly in the range of 4000 to 6000 kg$_{f}$ depending upon the slip. But for the soft soil area such as Andong and Namyang. tractor itself had mobility problem and showed minus trailer capacity for some places. For this area. the capacity of bulk type trailer ranged between 1000 and 2000 kg$_{f}$ mostly so bulk type trailer should be designed as a small capacity compared to the other area.ared to the other area. area.

  • Optimal range of soil physical quality to enhance crop productivity or to improve environmental health is still in dispute for the upland soil. We hypothesized that the optimal range might be established by comparing soil physical parameters and their interactions inhibiting crop growth. The parameter identifying optimal range covered favorable conditions of aeration, permeability and root extension. To establish soil physical standard two experiments were conducted as follows; 1) investigating interactions of bulk density and aeration porosity in the laboratory test and 2) determining effects of soil compaction and deep & conventional tillage on physical properties and crop growth in the field test. The crops were Perilla frutescens, Zea mays L., Solanum tuberosum L. and Secale cereael. The saturated hydraulic conductivity, bulk density from the root depth, root growth and stem length were obtained. Higher bulk density showed lower aeration porosity and hydraulic conductivity, and finer texture had lower threshold bulk density at 10% aeration bulk density. Reduced crop growth by subsoil compaction was higher in silt clay loam compared to other textures. Loam soil had better physical improvement in deep rotary tillage plot. Combined with results of the present studies, the soil physical quality was possibly assessed by bulk density index. Threshold subsoil bulk density as the upper value were $1.55Mg\;m^{-3}$ in sandy loam, $1.50Mg\;m^{-3}$ in loam and $1.45Mg\;m^{-3}$ in silty clay loam for optimal soil physical quality in upland.

  • A diffusion heat treatment process for YBa2Cu3O7-y bulk superconductor in a Gd2O3 powder was attempted. As a result of measuring the critical temperature of the superconducting bulk, there was no change in the superconducting transition temperature as the Gd particles diffused into the YBa2Cu3O7-y lattice, resulting in dense microstructure. As a result of measuring the critical current, the critical current density (Jc) of the superconducting bulk having treated by the Gd thermal diffusion treatment at 0 T increased to 3×104 A/cm2 at 0 T, which was higher than that of the superconducting bulk without thermal diffusion treatment. The surface magnetic force of the superconducting bulk with Gd thermal diffusion treatment was observed at the center of the superconducting bulk with the maximum trapped magnetic force (Hmax) of 1.51 kG. This result means that the Gd thermal diffusion treatment contributes to improving the critical current density Jc of YBa2Cu3O7-y, and it is believed that Gd particles migrating into the superconducting bulk through thermal diffusion either fill the surface pores of YBa2Cu3O7-y superconductors or act as a flux pinning center.

  • Background: As a restorative material used to treat dental caries, the light-curing type resin is widely used, but it has the disadvantage of polymerization shrinkage. The Bulk-Fill composite resin was developed to solve these shortcomings, but the existing research mainly focused on comparing the physical properties of a composite resin and a Bulk-Fill resin. A study on the light curing time and distance of the Bulk-Fill resin itself tend to be lacking. Methods: This study compares the surface microhardness of specimens prepared by varying the light curing time and distance of smart dentin replacement (SDR) as a flowable Bulk-Fill resin and Tetric N-ceram as a packable Bulk-Fill resin, and confirms the polymerization time and distance that becomes the optimum hardness. To determine the hardness of the specimen, it was measured using the Vickers Hardness Number (Matsuzawa MMT-X, Japan). Results: In SDR, the surface microhardness decreased as the distance increased in all time groups in the change distance from the curing tip. In the change of light curing time with respect to the distance from curing tip, the surface microhardness increased as the time increased. In Tetric N-ceram, the surface microharness showed no significant difference in the change of the distance of curing tip in the group of 20 and 60 second. But in the group of 10 and 40 seconds, decreased as the distance increased. The surface microharness increased as the light curing time increased in all distance groups. Conclusion: When using SDR and Tetric N-ceram in clinical practice, it is considered that as the distance from the polymerization reactor tip increases, a longer light curing time than the polymerization time recommended by the manufacturer is required.

  • The mechanical properties of a bulk amorphous alloy ($Zr_{41.2}$ $Ti_{13.8}$ /$Cu_{10}$ $Ni_{10}$ $Be_{22.5}$ /at.%) before and after an annealing treatment were investigated. For the bulk amorphous alloy, the compressive strength was about 2.0 GPa, irrespective of the strain rates in the range of $10^{-4}$ to $10^3$$ sec^{-1}$ . Fine-sized nanocrystalline particles (10~100 nm) were precipitated homogeneously in the bulk amorphous matrix after the annealing treatments. Compared to the bulk amorphous materials, these composite materials, composed of the nanocrystalline phases and a bulk amorphous matrix had much different mechanical properties. The strength and strain of coposite materials measured by a compressive test showed a peak-maximum values at 7 vol.% of the nanocrystalline phases. The values in higher volume fraction of the crystalline phases in the amorphous matrix were decreased, as measured by both quasi-static and high strain rate. The decrease in fracture strength is due to presence of the dispersed large-crystalline phases in the amorphous matrix.

  • After many casualties of conventional bulk carriers in recent years, a double hull bulk carrier was proposed to enhance the structural safety of a side shell and a transverse bulkhead. In this paper, two alternative structural designs of a double hull bulk carrier were carried out based on the Lloyd's rule. One has the double sided hull with longitudinal stiffeners and the other has that with a girder. The final structural design was examined in comparison with an existing single hull bulk carrier from the viewpoints of cargo hold capacity and the increases of weight and construction cost. Generally, the construction cost of a ship consists of the costs of material, labor and overhead cost. But, in this study, the relative construction cost concept was introduced to compare the economical validity more precisely. In this concept, fixed overhead cost is excluded in the assessment of construction cost, and only the variable overhead cost is added up to labor cost. As the result of this study, a double hull bulk carrier can be constructed within 1% increase of weight and construction cost.

  • Self-heating effects of bulk and SOI FinFETs on device structure are examined with TCAD simulation. The degradation of drive current in SOI FinFET is severer than that of bulk one in steady-state condition as expected. However, it is shown that the dynamic self-heating effects of SOI FinFETs are comparable to those of bulk FinFETs for high speed logic operation, especially in realistic device structure.
