A High-efficiency Method to Suppress Transformer Core Imbalance in Digitally Controlled Phase-shifted Full-bridge Converter

  • A high-efficiency method is proposed to suppress magnetic core imbalance in phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) converters. Compared with conventional solutions, such as controlling peak current mode (PCM) or adding DC blocking capacitance, the proposed method has several advantages, such as lower power loss and smaller size, because the additional current sensor or blocking capacitor is removed. A time domain model of the secondary side is built to analyze the relationship between transformer core imbalance and cathode voltage of secondary side rectifiers. An approximate control algorithm is designed to achieve asymmetric phase control, which reduces the effects of imbalance. A 60 V/15 A prototype is built to verify the proposed method. Experimental results show that the numerical difference of primary side peak currents between two adjacent cycles is suppressed from 2 A to approximately 0 A. Meanwhile, compared with the PCM solution, the efficiency of the PSFB converter is slightly improved from 93% to 93.2%.

Real-Time Heart Rate Monitoring System based on Ring-Type Pulse Oximeter Sensor

  • With the continuous aging of the populations in developed countries, the medical requirements of the aged are expected to increase. In this paper, a ring-type pulse oximeter finger sensor and a 24-hour ambulatory heart rate monitoring system for the aged are presented. We also demonstrate the feasibility of extracting accurate heart rate variability measurements from photoelectric plethysmography signals gathered using a ring-type pulse oximeter sensor attached to the finger. We designed the heart rate sensor using a CPU with built-in ZigBee stack for simplicity and low power consumption. We also analyzed the various distorted signals caused by motion artifacts using a FFT, and designed an algorithm using a least squares estimator to calibrate the signals for better accuracy.

Anomaly Event Detection Algorithm of Single-person Households Fusing Vision, Activity, and LiDAR Sensors

  • Due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19 and an aging population and an increase in single-person households, the amount of time that household members spend doing various activities at home has increased significantly. In this study, we propose an algorithm for detecting anomalies in members of single-person households, including the elderly, based on the results of human movement and fall detection using an image sensor algorithm through home CCTV, an activity sensor algorithm using an acceleration sensor built into a smartphone, and a 2D LiDAR sensor-based LiDAR sensor algorithm. However, each single sensor-based algorithm has a disadvantage in that it is difficult to detect anomalies in a specific situation due to the limitations of the sensor. Accordingly, rather than using only a single sensor-based algorithm, we developed a fusion method that combines each algorithm to detect anomalies in various situations. We evaluated the performance of algorithms through the data collected by each sensor, and show that even in situations where only one algorithm cannot be used to detect accurate anomaly event through certain scenarios we can complement each other to efficiently detect accurate anomaly event.

Hybrid Sensor Calibration Scheme for Mobile Crowdsensing-Based City-Scale Environmental Measurements

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid sensor calibration scheme for mobile crowdsensing applications. As the number of newly produced mobile devices containing embedded sensors continues to rise, the potential to use mobile devices as a sensor data source increases. However, because mobile device sensors are generally of a lower performance and cost than dedicated sensors, sensor calibration is crucial. To enable more accurate measurements of natural phenomena through the use of mobile device sensors, we propose a hybrid sensor calibration scheme for such sensors; the scheme makes use of mobile device sensors and existing sensing infrastructure, such as weather stations, to obtain dense data. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme supports low mean square errors. As a practical application of our proposed scheme, we built a temperature map of a city using six mobile phone sensors and six reference sensors. Thanks to the mobility of the sensors and the proposed scheme, our map presents more detailed information than infrastructure-based measurements.

  • Recently, the efficient management system for large-scale sensor data has been required due to the increasing deployment of large-scale sensor networks. In previous studies, sensor data was managed by distributed database system which built in a single server or a grid server. Thus, it has disadvantages such as low scalability, and high cost of building or managing the system. In this paper, we propose a cloud-based sensor data management system with low cast, high scalability, and efficiency. The proposed system can be work with the application of a variety of platforms, because processed results are provided through REST-based web service.

  • Localization of a sensor network node using machine learning has been recently studied. It is easy for Support vector machines algorithm to implement in high level language enabling parallelism. In this paper, we realized Support vector machine using python language and built a sensor network cluster with 5 Pi's. We also established a Hadoop software framework to employ MapReduce mechanism. We modified the existing Support vector machine algorithm to fit into the distributed hadoop architecture system for localization of a sensor node. In our experiment, we implemented the test sensor network with a variety of parameters and examined based on proficiency, resource evaluation, and processing time.

  • In this paper, a new localization method of indoor mobile robot using multi IR(infrared) range sensors is proposed. Each IR range sensor detects the edge of obstacles and wall using the acquired range data. The environment map is built by the merging process of the detected edge data of each sensor. The performance of proposed system is verified by the comparison of the real environment and the detected map in experiments.

  • This paper develops a control approach to generic formation tasks of multiple mobile robots with inaccurate sensor information. Inaccurate sensor information means that all the robots have only local sensors which cannot accurately measure absolute distances and directions of objects. The control logic is developed considering generic situations in order to adapt to increasing number of robots which participate in the formation. Petri nets are used for modeling and design of the control logic, which can visualize the control models and make it easy to check the states of each robot.   • Early detection in real-time response of slope movements ensures tremendous saving of lives and repair costs from catastrophic disaster Therefore, it is essential to constantly monitor the performance and integrity of slope-stabilizing structures such as Rock bolt, Nail and Pile during or after installation. We developed a novel monitoring system using Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG)sensor. It's advantages are highly sensitivity, small dimension and electro-magnetic immunity. capability of multiplexing, system integrity, remote sensing - these serve real-time health monitoring of the structures. Real-time strain measurement by the signal processing program is shown graphically and it gives a warning sound when the monitored strain state exceeds a given threshold level so that any sign of abnormal disturbance on the spot can be easily perceived.

  • GIS partial discharge that occurred in the UHF band signal is effectively detected by the method to IEC60270 5pc the apparent minimum discharge can be detected over the GIS arrangement of the sensor interior and exterior of the UHF in accordance with the optimized position signal by considering the damping ratio is selected so that the signals can be obtained to be mounted. 362kV, 800kV GIS is installed on the internal and external sensors are UHF band signal attenuation is set by measuring the reference value, but the operation, 170kV case 362kV, 800kV on the basis of the measurement data and to be installed and operated.
