  • In order to reduce the construction cost and period without degrading the quality, construction companies are making a lot of efforts to prefabricate and mechanize the construction process, and introducing and utilizing various techniques of construction time management in the process of construction. However, due to the various factors (such as weather conditions, labor factors, supply of equipment and materials, safety accident, etc) in the process of construction, construction projects are not frequently completed within the scheduled Period. This research is to examine the current status of construction time management and factors causing delay in construction with regard to the concrete work (such as form work, steel reinforcement, and concrete work) in building apartments.

  • The general method of structural analysis for building structures has been based upon the assumption that all dead loads are imposed on a building simultaneously throughout the entire structure. In reality, buildings are built floor by floor or a few floors at a time. The construction dead load is applied gradually onto the structure as the structure is being erected. The prevailing commercial software for structural analysis used to date have resulted in the representation of inaccurate structural behaviors. The actual construction sequence and the loading of the structure ere not properly represented in the analysis. This paper identifies the source of the errors and develops the algorithm to account for the differential column shortening due to construction dead load based upon a given construction sequence

  • In the past few decades, effects of natural hazards, such as earthquakes and wind, on existing structures have attracted the attention of researchers and designers. More recently, however, the phenomenon of progressive collapse is becoming more recognized in the field of structural engineering. In practice, the phenomenon can result from a number of abnormal loading events, such as bomb explosions, car bombs, accidental fires, accidental blast loadings, natural hazards, faulty design and construction practices, and premeditated terrorist acts. Progressive collapse can result not only in disproportionate structural failure, but also disproportionate loss of life and injuries. This paper provides an up-to-date comprehensive review of this phenomenon and its momentousness in structural engineering communities. The literature reveals that although the phenomenon of progressive collapse of buildings is receiving considerable attention in the professional engineering community, more research work is still needed in this field to develop a new methodology for efficient and inexpensive design to better protect buildings against progressive collapse.

  • The smart sensor technology has opened new horizons for assessing and monitoring structural health of civil infrastructure. Smart sensor's unique features such as onboard computation, wireless communication, and cost effectiveness can enable a dense network of sensors that is essential for accurate assessment of structural health in large-scale civil structures. While most research efforts to date have been focused on realizing wireless smart sensor networks (WSSN) on bridge structures, relatively less attention is paid to applying this technology to buildings. This paper presents a decentralized damage detection using the WSSN for building structures. An existing flexibility-based damage detection method is extended to be used in the decentralized computing environment offered by the WSSN and implemented on MEMSIC's Imote2 smart sensor platform. Numerical simulation and laboratory experiment are conducted to validate the WSSN for decentralized damage detection of building structures.

  • Sangyangmun is a written record which inform the date, time, history and reason of constructing a wooden building. We have conserved Sangyangmun which was discovered during the repairment and restoration of wooden building. From 1998 to 2002, We have completed the conservation of 27 pieces of 13 cases, for example Daeung-jeon, Bongjeonsa-Temple. First We investigated the material or damage condition of Sangyangmun, and carried out fumigation in order to prevent insects and fungi. Then Sangyangmun must be sealed hermetically using escal film in order to prevent the second damage.

  • There is an increasing demand for prediction of asbestos concentration which has an fatal effect on human body. While demolishing asbestos, the dust scatters and makes workers be exposed to danger. Up to this date, however, factors that particularly influences have not considered in predicting asbestos concentration. Most of the studies could not quantify the distribution of asbestos. Also, they did not use nominal data on buildings as important factors. Therefore, this study aims to build an asbestos concentration prediction model by quantifying distribution of asbestos and using nominal data of buildings based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN). This model can give significant contribution of improving the safety of workers and be useful for finding effective ways to demolish asbestos in planning.

  • The purpose of this study was developing the building materials for creation the comfortable IAQ. By reducing formaldehyde(HCHO) known as the main factors of Sick House Syndrome. This material must be revealed the physical and eco-friendly performance, so this study set up the basic standards for building materials. The source of physical performance evaluation is Korea Industrial Standards and the base of environmental ability is the Eco Label considering certificated system related to an apartment house. Because the developed material was satisfied with the established standards, it was tested in mock-up room for obtaining the real date from indoor air. The mock-up test was conducted according environmental standard method for indoor air Quality of the ministry of environment. The result of this study were as follows; the functional building materials had a effect to reduce the formaldehyde concentration for a initial period without wall paper, so additional development is needed for application with the wall paper and the available period.

  • Fire safety engineering is a critical specialization to include in the design of a tall building yet is often excluded from the Building Information Model (BIM) and integrated design process. The design of fire safety systems is interdependent with building/structural geometry, HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems. A BIM is a 3D visual representation that stores data on these kinds of systems. The compatibility between BIM and fire safety design seems obvious yet has received a dearth of attention in structural (fire) engineering literature. The authors herein have reviewed over 40 recent papers on utilizing BIM for fire safety engineering, focusing on contemporary literature to obtain a more up-to-date review of the state-of-the-art. The resulting trends, technologies, research gaps, and methodologies are presented in this paper. Adoption of BIM in fire safety engineering is slow and behind other disciplines which may be improved if research involved more industry partners. For BIM technology to reach its potential, industry manufacturers need to provide high LOD fire BIM objects, fire engineers and researchers need to collaborate on future advancements, and building owners/management need to be educated on how to use the benefits provided.

  • The digital map expresses natural topography and artificial things with 3D position coordinates in the computer such as the road, railway, building, river, mountain, paddy and dryland. Therefore, those should contribute to the information-oriented society by maintaining information and providing it to users quickly. However it is difficult to maintain the most recent topographic information all the time because of restricted budget and time. The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the updating area of the digital map using remotely sensed data, and to furnish the useful information reducing cost and time. To predict updating area of the digital map, we applied the urban changes analysis method to Landsat TM images from produced date of the digital map to up-to-date. Classification method for urban change analysis applied single band process algorithm. This study presents that updating area of the digital map is predicted by only the rate of 40% on total research area.
