Optimization of Quartz Crystal Microbalance-Precipitation Sensor Measuring Acetylcholinesterase Activity

  • The optimization of a batch-type quartz crystal microbalance (QCM)-precipitation sensor measuring acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity was conducted. To covalently bind AChE onto the gold electrode of a QCM surface, glutaraldehyde cross-linking to a cystamine self-assembled monolayer was tried at different cystamine concentrations. At the optimum conditions of the QCM-precipitation sensor, 0.1 M potassium phosphate buffer (pH 8.0), containing 0.01% Tween 80, was used as the reaction buffer, with the enzyme amount of 5 units for immobilization and the substrate concentration of 50 mg/ml. The current biosensor might find a future applicability to the sum parameter detection on organophosphorus and carbamate pesticides.

  • AMB(Acid Mine Drainage), characterized as high concentration of metal & sulfate ions and low pH(2.0~4.0), is the world-wide problem wherever there is or has been mining activities. Though limestone has been generally used to neutralize AMD, There are metal hydroxide precipitation on the surface of limestone and excessive alkalinity formation which exceeds the regulation. In this research, concrete-recycled fine aggregate is selected for alternative neutralizing agent. Because fine recycled aggregate had more ANP than others in the preliminary research, the purpose of this research is to apply fine aggregate for AMD neutralization. Three columns packed with fine aggregates(2.5mm$O_3$) of it is calculated as 0.09(C-1), approximated 10% purity of limestone. Comparing with values of other columns(C-2: 0.01 and C-3: 0.01), there is variation of porosity and residence time induced from the precipitation of metal hydroxide. Consequently, 8 hours of HRT is enough to create adequate alkalinity and the function which could expect the variation of porosity(n) and residence time( $t_{R}$) should be applied to develop design function.lied to develop design function.

  • Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) provides the means to support with variety of multimedia serivices in broadband network. For the support of multimedia services, various data traffic with priortes should be controlled errectively and congestion function is required in the network to carry out the control operation. To accomplish this in a flexible and effective manner, priorty classes for the different services are commonly used. In this paper, we suggested a buffer managment algorithm in ATM network to improve overall network performance with separated buffer which consists of existing buffer with threshold andauxiliary buffer whose input consists of superposition of voice and data traffic. To evaluate the proposed buffer managment algorithms, simulations are excuted with two proiorities and the results are provied that network throughput is improved better than the existing parital buffer method.

  • 기존의 박막 실리콘 태양전지는 TCO와 p-layer 사이의 Bandgap차이가 p-layer, i-layer, n-layer 사이의 Bandgap 차이보다 커서 TCO를 통과한 태양광이 p-layer에 흡수되기 전에 일정량 손실된다. 이를 해결하기 위하여, p-layer 위에 기존의 p-layer보다 높은 Bandgap을 갖는 p buffer layer가 추가된 박막 실리콘 태양전지 구조를 만들어서 흡수되는 태양광의 손실량을 줄이고, 변환효율을 높이고자 하였다. 실험은 ASA Simulator를 이용하여 진행하였으며, Simulation결과 1.92eV의 Bandgap을 갖는 p buffer layer의 추가로 인하여, 기존 10.64%에서 11.16%로 증가된 변환효율을 얻을 수 있었다. Bandgap뿐만 아니라 다른 요소의 최적화도 이루어진다면, 기존의 박막 실리콘 태양전지보다 훨씬 높은 변환효율을 갖는 박막 실리콘 태양전지를 설계 하는 것이 가능 할 것이다.

  • The provision of QoS control is a key of the successful deployment of multimedia networks. Buffer management plays an important role in QoS control. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel QoS buffer management algorithm named GREEN (Global Random Early Estimation for Nipping), which extends the concepts of ERD (early random drop) and RED (random early detection). Specifically, GREEN enhances the concept of "Random" to "Global Random" by globally considering the random probability function. It also enhances the concept of "Early" to "Early Esti mation" by early estimating the network status. For performance evaluation, except compared with RED, extensive simulation cases are performed to probe the characteristics of GREEN.

  • In this study, we consider characteristics of stationary waiting times in single-server 2-node tandem queues with a finite buffer, a Poisson arrival process and deterministic service times. The system has two buffers: one at the first node is infinite and the other one at the second node is finite. We show that the sojourn time or departure process does not depend on the capacity of the finite buffer and on the order of nodes (service times), which are the same as the previous results. Furthermore, the explicit expressions of waiting times at the first node are given as a function of the capacity of the finite buffer and we are able to disclose a relationship of waiting times between under communication blocking and under manufacturing blocking. Some numerical examples are also given.

A Shared Buffer-Constrained Topology Reconfiguration Scheme in Wavelength Routed Networks

  • The reconfiguration management scheme changes a logical topology in response to changing traffic patterns in the higher layer of a network or the congestion level on the logical topology. In this paper, we formulate a reconfiguration scheme with a shared buffer-constrained cost model based on required quality-of-service (QoS) constraints, reconfiguration penalty cost, and buffer gain cost through traffic aggregation. The proposed scheme maximizes the derived expected reward-cost function as well as guarantees the required flow's QoS. Simulation results show that our reconfiguration scheme significantly outperforms the conventional one, while the required physical resources are limited.

  • In this paper, we investigate the effect of a LAN traffic on the performance of a shared buffer ATM switch andIWF (interworking function )on a LAN environment through simulations. Firstly, the delay and the buffer occupancy of the switch and IWF are mesured according to the proportion of the LAN traffic to the traffic generated by gernoulli process. Secondly, we investigate the behavior of the switch in the case that LAN traffic is concentrated to a connectionless server, and the effect of LAN traffic shaping at IWF on the delay and the buffer occupancy of the switch.

Infrared Multiphoton Dissociation of ${CF_2}HCl$: Laser Fluence Dependence and the Effect of Intermolecular Collisions

  • The effect of intermolecular collisions in the infrared multiphoton dissociation (IRMPD) of difluorochloromethane was investigated using He, Ar, and $N_2$ as buffer gases. The reaction probability for IRMPD of difluorochloromethane was measured as a function of laser fluence and the buffer gas pressure under unfocused beam geometry. It was observed that the reaction probability was initially enhanced with the increase of buffer gas pressure up to about 20 torr, but showed a decline at higher pressures. The reaction probability increases monotonically with the laser fluence, but the rate of increase diminishes at higher fluences. An attempt was made to simulate the experimental results by the method of energy grained master equation (EGME). From the parameters that fit the experimental data, the average energy loss per collision, $<{\Delta}E>_d$, was estimated for the He, Ar, and $N_2$ buffer gases.

  • We have studied the Infrared Multiphoton Dissociation (IRMPD) of 1-bromo-3-chloropropane by using the pulsed $CO_2$ laser. The product yields and the HCl/HBr branching ratios in IRMPD of $BrCH_2CH_2CH_2Cl$ are studied under the focused beam geometry as a function of buffer gas (He) pressure, laser energy, and photolysing wavelength. It is observed that the total dissociation yield has a laser energy dependence of 1.8-2.0 power order and the branching ratio is very slightly dependent on the pulse energy for the laser lines employed. The dependences of total dissociation yield and branching ratio on the buffer gas pressures show that the dissociation yield monotonically decreases and the branching ratio slightly decreases with the increase of the buffer gas pressure. The Energy-Grained Master Equation (EGME) was applied to explain the laser pulse energy and the buffer gas pressure(He) dependence of the dissociation yield and the branching ratio.
