The bubble packing method is implemented for adaptive mesh generation in two and three dimensions. Bubbles on the boundary of a three-dimensional domain are controlled independently of the interior bubbles in the domain, and a modified octree technique is employed to place initial bubbles in the three-dimensional zone. Numerical comparisons are made with other mesh generation techniques to demonstrate the effectiveness of the present bubble packing scheme for two- and three-dimensional domains. It is shown that this bubble packing method provides a high quality of mesh and affordable control of mesh density as well.
Thickness-dependent magnetic domain structure of ultrathin Co wedge films (0.3 nm-1.0 nm) sandwiched by Pt layers was investigated by scanning transmission x-ray microscopy (STXM) employing X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), utilizing elliptically polarized soft x-rays and electromagnetic fields, with a spatial resolution of 50 nm. The magnetic domain images measured at the Co $L_3$ edge showed the evolution of the magnetic domain structures from maze-like form to the bubble-like form as the perpendicular magnetic field was applied. The asymmetric domain expansion of a 500 nm-scale bubble domain was also measured when the in-plane and perpendicular external magnetic field were applied simultaneously.

A Bubble size distribution model has been developed for the numerical simulation of cryogenic high-speed cavitating flow of the turbo-pumps in the liquid fuel rocket engine. The new model is based on the previous one proposed by the authors, in which the bubble number density was solved as a function of bubble size at each grid point of the calculation domain by means of Eulerian framework with respect to the bubble size coordinate. In the previous model, the growth/decay of bubbles due to pressure difference between bubble and liquid was solved exactly based on Rayleigh-Plesset equation. However, the unsteady heat transfer between liquid and bubble, which controls the evaporation/condensation rate, was approximated by a theoretical solution of unsteady heat conduction under a constant temperature difference. In the present study, the unsteady temperature field in the liquid around a bubble is also solved exactly in order to establish an accurate and efficient numerical simulation code for cavitating flows. The growth/decay of a single bubble and growth of bubbles with nucleation were successfully simulated by the proposed model.

The meshing of the domain has long been the major bottleneck in performing the finite element analysis. Research efforts which are so-called meshfree methods have recently been directed towards eliminating or at least easing the requirement for meshing of the domain. In this paper, a new meshfree method for solving nonlinear boundary value problem, based on the bubble packing technique and Delaunay triangle is proposed. The method can be efficiently implemented to the problems with singularity by using formly distributed nodes.

Recoverability and vulnerability of navy ships under underwater explosion are critical verification factors in the acquisition phase of navy ships. This paper aims to establish numerical analysis techniques for the underwater explosion of navy ships. Doubly Asymptotic Approach (DAA) Equation of Motion (EOM) of primary shock wave and secondary bubble pulse proposed by Geers-Hunter was introduced. Assuming a non-compressive fluid, reference solution of the DAA EOM of Geers-Hunter using Runge-Kutta method was derived for the secondary bubble pulse phase with an assumed charge conditions. Convergence analyses to determine fluid element size were performed, suggesting that the minimum fluid element size for underwater explosion analysis was 0.1 m. The spherical and cylindrical fluid domains were found to be appropriate for the underwater explosion analyses from the fluid domain shape study. Because the element size of 0.1 m was too small to be applied to the actual navy ships, a very slender beam with the square solid section was selected for the study of fluid domain existence effect. The two underwater explosion models with/without fluid domain provided very similar results in terms of the displacement and stress processes.
Spacer grid with mixing vane had been widely used in nuclear reactor core. One of the main feather of spacer grid with mixing vane was that strong swirl flow was formed after the spacer grid. The swirl flow not only changed the bubble generation in the near wall field, but also affected the bubble behaviors in the center region of the subchannel. The interaction between bubble and the swirl flow was one of the basic phenomena for the two phase flow modeling in fuel assembly. To obatin better understanding on the bubble behaviors in swirl flow, full three dimension numerical simulations were conducted in the present paper. The swirl flow was assumed in the cylindral calculation domain. The bubble interface was captured by Volume Of Fluid (VOF) method. The properties of saturated water and steam at different pressure were applied in the simulation. The bubble trajectory, motion, shape and force were obtained based on the bubble parameters captured by VOF. The simulation cases in the present study included single bubble with different size, at different angular velocity conditions and at different pressure conditions. The results indicated that bubble migrated to the center in swirl flow with spiral motion type. The lateral migration was mainly related to shear stress magnitude and bubble size. The bubble moved toward the center with high velocity when the swirl magnitude was high. The largest bubble had the highest lateral migration velocity in the present study range. The effect of pressure was small when bubble size was the same. The prelimenery simulation result would be beneficial for better understanding complex two phase flow phenomena in fuel assembly with spacer grid.
In a closed square cavity filled with a liquid, a cooled the upper horizontal wall and a heated the lower horizontal wall, the flow isn't generated under the ground-based condition when Rayleigh number is lower than 1700. In such case the flow phenomena near an air bubble under a cooled horizontal wall were investigated. The temperature and the flow fields were studied by using the Thermo-sensitive Liquid-Crystal and the image processing. The qualitative analysis for the temperature and the flow fields were carried out by applying the image processing technique to the original data. Injecting bubble at the center point of upper cooled wall, the symmetry shape of two vortexes near an air bubble was observed. The bubble size increased, the size of velocity and the magnitude of velocity increased. In spite of elapsed time, a pair of two vortexes was the unique and steady-state flow in a square cavity and wasn't induce to the other flow in the surround region.

The magneto-optical properties of Co/Co$_2$TiSn two-phase magnet films were studied. These films show that relatively large Kerr rotations which are -0.4 deg. at the wavelength of 400 nm, compared to that of pure Co. It is conceivable that the magneto-optical effects may be due to both contributions of ferromagnetic Co matrix and ferromagnetic Co$_2$TiSn Heusler alloy precipitate. The perpendicular magnetization curve domonstrates a typical bubble domain hysteresis loop. the saturation magnetization change of the annealed film is less sensitive to temperature in the low temperature region and the Curie temperature of Co$_2$TiSn Heusler alloy precipitate is a little higher in the annealed film. These can be explained by the increase of the number of Co-Co exchange interaction in Heusler alloy structure resulting from the change of chemical ordering by annealing.

A level-set method is used for analyzing the behaviors of gas bubbles in two fluids incompressible viscous flow domain. The governing equations are solved by using a finite volume method. The numerical results are verified by comparing with the experimental and other computational results. Computations for the deformations and motions of one or multi-bubbles in the flow domain with the initial undisturbed free interface are conducted. It can be seen that numerical results for different surface tension and density ratio arise very different behaviors of bubbles. When bubbles rise near the free interface, the free interface gives some great influence on the behaviors of bubbles. The present results computed by a level-set method give useful information about the properties of bubble motions and deformations.
Since the wall mobility of bubble magnetic materials havin g the large q (q=Kac/2$\pi$$M_s^2$) like a $YFeO_3$ has been found to be proportional to the wall energy theoretically crystallographical direction dependence of wall energy calculated by the basis on the spin configuration of the bubble wall which lies in the ac plane was compared with the crystallographical direction dependence of wall mobility which was measured by the experiment. The sample was a single crystal of $YFeO_3$ which was cut into plate normal to the C axis and polished t a thickness of about 60${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ The measurement of the wall mobility was carried out by optical system using the magneto-optic Faraday effect. From the good agreement of the crystallographical direction dependence of wall mobility and will energy it was found that the spin configuration of the bubble wall suggested is fair.
