  • This paper proposes a new sensorless drive system for the trapezoidal Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motor requiring mechanical position or speed sensor. The proposed method is using only one current sensor For this an indirect rotor position sensing method from the periodically variation DC Link current waveform. DC Link current waveform change from high to low when BLDC commutate status. This algorithm was verified by simulations using MATLAB SIMULINK and experiment.

외란 관측기를 이용한 BLDC 전동기의 속도제어 (Speed Control of the BLDC Motor using the Disturbance Observer)

  • 본 논문은 BLDC 전동기의 정밀한 속도제어를 위하여 외란 관측기의 설계 및 영향을 제거하는 제어기 설계방법을 제안한다. BLDC 전동기의 외부에서 회전축에 작용하는 부하의 변동과 전기적인 시스템에서 발생하는 역기전력을 외란으로 가정하고, 외란은 구간에 대한 상수로 가정하여 루엔버거 관측기를 설계한다. 시스템 상태에 대한 관측기의 오차가 0으로 수렴할 수 있도록 적절한 이득을 설정하는 방법을 보이고, 추종성능을 향상시킬 수 있는 적절한 PI제어기의 이득을 설정하기 위한 방법을 제시한다. 제안된 제어기를 120W급의 BLDC 전동기에 적용하여 속도 그리고 전류 레퍼런스를 추종하는 능력을 시뮬레이션 시험하였다. 상수부하의 변동을 외란으로 적용하였고, 그 결과 설계된 제어기의 정상상태 오차가 0.1 [%] 이내를 가짐으로 상태 추종성능에 대해 유용한 제어기임을 보일 수 있었다.

Analysis on Core Loss of Brushless DC Motor Considering Pulse Width Modulation of Inverter

  • In this paper, characteristics of blushless direct current (BLDC) motor including core loss are analyzed considering pulse width modulation (PWM) of inverter. Input voltage of BLDC motor due to PWM is calculated considering duty ratio and carrier frequency of inverter in order to control torque or speed of BLDC motor. For the calculation of core loss, the input current with harmonics due to PWM voltage is calculated by using equivalent circuit model of BLDC motor according to switching pattern and carrier frequency. Next, core loss is analyzed by inputting the currents as a source of BLDC motor for FEM. Characteristics including core loss are compared with ones without PWM waveform according to reference speed.

  • A brushless direct current (BLDC) motor electronically performs rectification without brushes. It therefore does not have the typical mechanical friction contacts between the brushes and commutators. The BLDC motor has the advantages of high speed, low noise, and electronic noise reduction in addition to high durability and reliability. Therefore, it is mainly used in electric vehicles and electric equipment. However, iron loss and copper loss due to long-term use induce temperature increases in the motor, which reduces its performance and life. The temperatures of the stator and permanent magnet are predicted to be $62.3^{\circ}C$ and $32.2^{\circ}C$, respectively. This study shows the enhanced temperature distribution in a 600 W BLDC motor using unsteady and three-dimensional (3D) numerical investigations validated with experimental data.

High-Performance Metal-Substrate Power Module for Electrical Applications

  • This paper demonstrates the performance of a metal-substrate power module with multiple fabricated chips for a high current electrical application, and evaluates the proposed module using a 1.5-kW sinusoidal brushless direct current (BLDC) motor. Specifically, the power module has a hybrid structure employing a single-layer heat-sink extensible metal board (Al board). A fabricated motor driver IC and trench gate DMOSFET (TDMOSFET) are implemented on the Al board, and the proper heat-sink size was designed under the operating conditions. The fabricated motor driver IC mainly operates as a speed controller under various load conditions, and as a multi-phase gate driver using an N-ch silicon MOSFET high-side drive scheme. A fabricated power TDMOSFET is also included in the fabricated power module for three-phase inverter operation. Using this proposed module, a BLDC motor is operated and evaluated under various pulse load tests, and our module is compared with a commercial MOSFET module in terms of the system efficiency and input current.

  • Brushless Direct Current(BLDC) Motor is essential to measure a rotor position because of that this motor type needs to synchronize the rotor's position and changeover phase current instead of a brush and commutator used on the existing dc motor. Recently, many researches have studied on sensorless control drive for BLDC motor. The conventional control methods are a compensation value dq, Kalman filter, Fuzzy logic, Neurons neural network, and the like. These methods has difficulties of detecting BEMF accurately at low speed because of low BEMF voltage and switching noise. And also, the operation is long and complex. So, it is required a high-performance microprocessor. Therefore, it is not suitable for a small BLDC motor sensorless drive. This paper presents control methods suitable for economic small BLDC motor sensorless drive which are an improved design of the BEMF detection circuit, simplifying a complex algorithm and computation time reduction. The improved motor sensorless drive is verified stability and validity through being designed, manufactured and analyzed.

  • A mixed method between $H_2\;and\;H_{\infty}$ control are widely applied to systems which has parameter perturbation and uncertain model to obtain an optimal robust controller. Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motors are widely used for high performance control applications. Conventional PID controller only provides satisfactory performance for set-point regulation. However, with the presence of nonlinearities, uncertainties and perturbations in the system, conventional PID is not sufficient to achieve an optimal robust controller. This paper presents an approach to ease designing a Mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ PID controller for controlling speed of Brushless DC motors and the genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimized problems. Numerical results are shown to prove that the performance in the proposed controller is better than that in the optimal PID controller using LQR approach.

  • A multi-phase brushless direct current (BLDC) motor is widely used in large-capacity electric propulsion systems such as submarines and electric ships. In particular, in the field of military submarines, the polyphaser motor must suppress torque ripple in various failure situations to reduce noise and ensure stable operation for a long time. In this paper, we propose a polyphaser current control method that can improve efficiency and reduce torque ripple by minimizing the increase in stator winding loss at maximum output torque by controlling the phase angle and amplitude of the steady-state current during open circuit failure of the stator winding. The proposed control method controls the magnitude and phase angle of the healthy phase current, excluding the faulty phase, to compensate for the torque ripple that occurs in the case of a phase open failure of the motor. The magnitude and phase angle of the controlled steady-state current are calculated for each phase so that copper loss increase is minimized. The proposed control method was verified using hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) of a 12-phase BLDC motor. HILS verification confirmed that the increase in the loss of the stator winding and the magnitude of the torque ripple decreased compared with the open phase fault of the motor.

  • In this paper, we adapted BLDC motor to PV water pumping systems to maintain high efficiency in the wide speed area. Also, to design confidence we adapted the vector control that drive the maximum torque at each speed limit. We designed optimal gain value of current, speed and pressure PI controller. Inverter gate pulse used Space Vector PWM to reduce torque pulsation of BLDC motor. According to, it was improve general matters of high water storage tank method by direct water supply pumping method.

  • The motor for torpedo propulsion is needed the compact and short rating high power characteristics. This paper describes the development of the motor through the theory and Finite Element Method(FEM) analysis for Brushless Direct Current Motor(BLDCM) of 7 phase 6 poles. Back EMF, inductance and eddy current loss were analyzed. The proposed methods like magnetic wedge acquired by these FEM analysis were introduced. Phase-leading angle using encoder was used. Test results on the motor of 7 phase 6 poles were showed the validity of proposed methods and phase-leading angle.
