Sensorless Drive of Brushless DC Motors Using an Unknown Input Observer (미지입력 관측기를 이용한 BLDC 전동기 센서리스 드라이브에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, a novel motor control method is proposed to improve the performance of sensorless drive of BLDC motors. The unknown input (back-EMF) is modelled as the additional state of system in this paper. Taking into account the disturbance adopted by the back-EMF, the observer can be obtained by the augmented system equation. An algorithm to detect the back-EMF of the BLDC motor using the state observer is constructed. As a result, the novel sensorless drive of BLDC motors that can strictly estimate rotor position and speed is proposed.

  • This paper deals with design and characteristic analysis of Brushless DC (BLDC) motor using fuel-pump. First, we derived design factor from simplified design characteristic equation. Second, we decided design parameter from design factor using finite element analysis (FEA). Finally, analyze characteristics for BLDC using FEA according to load condition.

  • Acoustic noise and vibration of a BLDC motor is a coupled phenomenon between mechanical characteristics and electromagnetic origins through the motor air-gap. When a relative misalignment of rotor in the air-gap center exists on the assemblage, it is considered to influence the motor system characteristics. In this paper, the back electro motive force(BEMF) is analyzed by Finite Element Method(FEM) and verified by experiments for the SPM and IPM type motors. For magnetic field analysis, a FEM is used to account for the magnetic saturation. Using these results, the FEM is made to determine the appropriate electromagnetic field analysis in BLDC motors with rotor eccentricity ratio. A radial magnetic imbalance force of BLDC motor with rotor eccentricity is analyzed. Results demonstrate that the imbalance force is increased according to the degree of misalignment. An IPM motor, mostly chosen to realize high-speed operation, shows a worse effect on magnetic unbalanced forces and dynamic responses compared with SPM motor due to magnetic saturation when the rotor eccentricity exists.

  • The motor for torpedo propulsion is needed the compact and short rating high power characteristics. This paper describes the development of the motor through the theory and Finite Element Method(FEM) analysis for Brushless Direct Current Motor(BLDCM) of 7 phase 6 poles. Back EMF, inductance and eddy current loss were analyzed. The proposed methods like magnetic wedge acquired by these FEM analysis were introduced. Phase-leading angle using encoder was used. Test results on the motor of 7 phase 6 poles were showed the validity of proposed methods and phase-leading angle.

  • Acoustic noises generated during motor operation in mechanical system are from electromagnetic, mechanical, aerodynamic, and electrical sources. For identification of mechanical noise origins, misalignment, unbalance, fan shape, resonance, and vibration modes have been extensively considered to describe noise behavior. An experiment-based approach as well as a mathematical approach needs to be adopted for a realistic study into noise and vibration of the motor, because motor noise characteristics differ from type to type due to various noise sources. In this paper, a brushless DC motor for air-conditioner fan is analyzed by finite element method to identify noise source, and the analysis results are verified by experiments, and sensitivity analysis is performed by design of experiments.

  • Vibration of a rotor-bearing system driven by an electric motor is a coupled phenomenon between mechanical characteristics and magnetic origins through the air-gap. With the advent of new high-energy magnets together with high precision motor applications, magnetic sources of vibration are becoming more serious. This paper investigates the transient whirl responses of a rotor system with purely mechanical origins and compares it with that of magnetically coupled origins. A perturbation method is applied to model the magnetic field associated with rotor eccentricity. Electromagnetic forces are obtained by the Maxwell stress method, which utilizes the analytical expression of radial flux density distribution. The FEM was applied to a rotor-motor system to illustrate magnetically coupled effects in rotor dynamics. Results show that magnetically coupled sources significantly affect the vibration of the rotor-motor system.

  • Slotless Permanent magnet Brushless DC Motor(PM BLDC) with the characteristics of high speed and high power density has been more widely used in industrial and automatic machine. Generally, PM BLDC meter is necessary that the three Hall-ICs evenly be distributed around the stator circumference in case of the 3 phase motor. The Hall-ICs are set up in this motor to detect the main flux from the rotor. therefore the output signal from Hall-ICs is used to drive a power transistor to control the stator winding current. However, instead of using three Hall-ICs, if only we used one Hall-IC, we estimate information of the others phase in sequence through a revolving rotor. This paper identified the characteristics and performance by using one Hall-IC for the 3 phase PM BLDC whose six stator and two rotor designed.

  • A brushless DC (BLDC) motor control system for four-axis driving fins to control the flight attitude of a guided artillery munition is developed in this study. This system adopts a simple sensorless control scheme without a Hall sensor. A 12-step driving sensorless BLDC motor scheme is used to improve the output torque. This system has many restrictive problems that hinder the verification of a real system. For example, this has cost and environmental limitations. Therefore, this study develops HILS to verify a four-axis driving fin control system and verifies the position control system hardware by HILS operation.

  • In this paper, a BLDC(Brushless DC) motor control system for driving fins to control the flight attitude of the guided artillery munition is developed. This system adopts a sensorless control scheme without any position sensor such as a Hall sensor fragile at high altitudes. The sensorless control of the BLDC motor is achieved by using commutation signals obtained from the measured pole voltages. The position control of the fin is also performed by using of the estimated speed from the commutation signals. The experimental results on the actual fin drive system demonstrated that the developed sensorless control algorithm can give an excellent position control performance.

  • This Paper presents a solution to control the Brushless DC Motor(BLDCM) in Hard Disk Drive(HDD) using the Linear Quadratic Regulator(LQR). Generally, The speed of BLDCM in HDD is controlled by the lead angle control or the input voltage control using PAM(Pulse Amplitude Modulation) etc. These control methods have speed overshoot in speed control and need the long time until BLDCM reaches at the steady state. In order to improve the performance, this paper present the PI speed controller using the LQR based on vector control and the rotor position detection methods at the space vector PWM inverter. The proposed methods are proved by the simulation and experimental results.
