Thermally or electrically conductive filler reinforced polymer composites are extensively being developed as the demand for light weight material increases rapidly in industiral applications need good conductivity such as heat sink of the electronics or light. Carbon or ceramic materials like graphite, carbon nanotube or boron nitride are typical conductive fillers with good thermal or electical conductivity. Using these conductive fillers, the polymer composites in the market show wide range of thermal conductivity from approximately 1 W/mK to 20 W/mK, which is quite enhanced considering the thermal conductivity lower than 0.5 W/mK for most polymeric materials. The practical use of these composites, however, is yet limited to specific applications because most composites are still not conductive enough or too difficult to process, too brittle, too expensive for higher conductivity. For practical use of conductive composite, the thermal conductivity required depending on the heat releasing mode are studied first for simplified unit cooling geometry to propose thermal conductivities of the composites for reasonable cooling performance comparing with the metal heat sink as a reference. Also, as a practical design for heat sink based on polymer composite, composite and metal sheet hybrid structures are investigated for LED lamp heat sink and audio amplication module housing to find that this hybrid structure can be a good solution considering all of the cooling performance, manufacturing, mechanical performance, cost and weight.
In the companion paper, a constitutive model was proposed in order to represent brittleness and dilatancy for cohesionless soils. An optimized design methodology was proposed on the basis of real-coded genetic algorithm in order to determine parameters fir the proposed model systematically. The material parameters were then determined by that algorithm. In order to verify the proposed model, triaxial tests were peformed under $K_0$ conditions for weathered soils. In addition, the results of istropic compressed triaxial tests for granular materials verified the proposed model. For those results the brittle stress-strain relationship and the dilatancy could be modeled reasonably by the proposed model. As a result it was found that the proposed model can appropriately represent the behavior on weathered soil and granular soil.

In the welded structure, the most dengerous section is welded parts and almost fractures of welded structure occur from welded parts. Accordingly, in other to prevents of fracture, it is important seeking the fracture behavior of welded parts. In this study as basic investigation of fracture behavior of welded parts, it is investigated that local distribution of fracture toughness and effect of multipass electrode welding, also effect of release of residual stress were investigated, as the subjected. material, the used steel having fatigue history and unused steel were selected. As the result of this study, it is dear that the base metal of unused steel and heat affected zone and weld metal are different each other in fracture toughness, and it seems clear that the weld metal may will become source of fracture because of it having the most low fracture toughness. Especially, in the case of crack occur in the used steel, it will be the most brittle section in the structure because of it having low fracture toughness then weld metal. It affirmation that, if welded parts has not flaw, the multi pass electrode welding effective to improve of fracture toughness, also release of residual stress is none effective to improve of fracture toughness in this study.

Organic materials have been explored as the gate dielectric layers in thin film transistors (TFTs) of backplane devices for flexible display because of their inherent mechanical flexibility. However, those materials possess some disadvantages like low dielectric constant and thermal resistance, which might lead to high power consumption and instability. On the other hand, inorganic gate dielectrics show high dielectric constant despite their brittle property. In order to maintain advantages of both materials, it is essential to develop the alternative materials. In this work, we manufactured nanocomposite gate dielectrics composed of organic material and inorganic nanoparticle and integrated them into organic TFTs. For synthesis of nanocomposite gate dielectrics, polyimide (PI) was explored as the organic materials due to its superior thermal stability. Candidate nanoprticles (NPs) of halfnium oxide, titanium oxide and aluminium oxide were considered. In order to realize NP concentration dependent electrical characteristics, furthermore, we have synthesized the different types of nanocomposite gate dielectrics with varying ratio of each inorganic NPs. To analyze gate dielectric properties like the capacitance, metal-Insulator-metal (MIM) structures were prepared together with organic TFTs. The output and transfer characteristics of organic TFTs were monitored by using the semiconductor parameter analyzer (HP4145B), and capacitance and leakage current of MIM structures were measured by the LCR meter (B1500, Agilent). Effects of mechanical cyclic bending of 200,000 times and thermally heating at $400^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour were investigated to analyze mechanical and thermal stability of nanocomposite gate dielectrics. The results will be discussed in detail.

Since concrete is an inhomogeneous material consisting of larger aggregates and sand embedded in a cement paste matrix, it relatively shows a complex failure mechanism. In order to assure the reliability of concrete structure. microscopic fracture behavior and internal damage progress of concrete under the loading should be fully understood. In this study, an acoustic emission(AE) technique has been used to clarify microscopic failure mechanism and their corresponding AE signal characteristics of concrete under three-point bending test. In addition 2-dimensional AE source location has been performed to monitor the progress of an internal damage and the successive crack growth behavior during the loading. The relationship between AE signal characteristics and microscopic fracture mechanism is discussed.

In order to investigate the effects of hot corrosion on the creep rupture properties and creep life of 304 stainless steel being used as tube materials of heavy oil fired boiler, the creep rupture tests were carried out at temperature 630.deg.C, 690.deg.C and 750.deg.C in static air for the specimens with or without coating of double layer corrosives according to the new hot corrosion test method simulating the situation commonly observed on superheater tubes of the actual boiler. The double layer corrosives are 85% V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ + 10% Na$_{2}$So$_{4}$ + 5% Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$ as the inner layer corrosive being once melted at 900.deg. C and crushed to powder, and 10% V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ + 85% Na$_{2}$SO$_{4}$ +5% Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$ as the outer layer corrosive. As results, in the specimen coated with the double layer corrosives, the rupture strength was extremely lowered and showed a large difference each other. The rupture ductility also lowered remarkably as a result of the brittle fracture mode due to hot corrosion. These results indicate that hot corrosion could essentially alter the creep fracture mechanism. From the metallographic observation, it was clarified that the rupture life of 304 stainless steel subjected to hot corrosion was chiefly determined by the behavior of the aggressive intergranular penetration of sulfides.des.

Plasma Display Panel(PDP) is a type of flat panel display utilizing the light emission produced by gas discharge. Barrier Ribs of PDP separating each sub-pixel prevents optical and electrical crosstalks from adjacent sub-pixels. Mold for forming barrier ribs has been newly researched to overcome the disadvantages of conventional manufacturing process such as screen printing, sand-blasting and photosensitive glass methods. Mold for PDP barrier ribs have stripes of micro grooves transferring glass-material wall. In this paper, Stripes of grooves of which width 48${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 270${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, depth 124${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, pitch 274${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ was acquired by machining hard and brittle materials of WC, Silicon, Alumina with dicing saw blade. Maximum roughness of the bottom and sidewall of the grooves was respectively 120nm, 287nm in grooving WC. Maximum tilt angle caused by difference between upper-most width and lower-most width was 2$^{\circ}$. Maximum Radius of bottom curvatures was 7.75${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. This results satisfies the specification for barrier ribs of 50 inch XGA PDP if the groove form of mold was fully transferred to the barrier ribs. Barrier ribs were formed with Silicone rubber mold, which is transferred from grooved hard materials. Silicone rubber mold has elasticity accommodating the waveness of lower glass plate of PDP.
For high-strength steel, it is difficult to be applied to flexible structural member because it have high yield ratio and low basic material's toughness. One of the great problems when using high-strength steel connections is the brittle fracture at the end of the beam member in common with general mild steel connections. In the cases of mild steel connections, it has be developed that special moment frame connection details by reinforcing structural member or improvement of welding access hole. But, it is incomplete at yet about applicability estimation of high-strength steel connections. This study is the initial step research for the applicability estimation of beam-to-column connections being applied to developed high-strength steel, HSA800. And, it studied about structural performance of the high-strength steel connections according to the details of welding access hole through full-scale test and analytical method.

The catalytic converter in the front part of an automobile's exhaust system converts toxic exhaust gas into nontoxic gas. The substrate in the central part of the converter has a circular or oval-shaped cross section and fine lattice-shaped walls. In the canning process, the substrate is wrapped in mats and inserted into a can. During this process, mat pressure is induced, which may cause brittle fracturing in the substrate. In this paper, a finite element program for determining the mat pressure distribution was developed to avoid these fractures. The program was created in Microsoft EXCEL, so the input and output procedures are relatively simple. It was assumed that the substrate is rigid, the mat is material nonlinear, and the can is linear elastic. The can is modeled as a beam element to resist both bending and uniform tension/compression. The number of elements is fixed to 35, and the number of iterations, to 20. The solutions are compared to ABAQUS solutions and found to be in good agreement.

It has been well recognized that a long term service at elevated temperature of $350^{\circ}C{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ induces embrittlement damage due to carbide precipitation and/or P, Sb and Sn segregation at grain boundaries and thereby deteriorates the grain boundary strength of heat resisting components in the energy-related plants. Therefore, it is very important to assess quantitatively the extent of embrittlement damage of heat resisting components to secure the reliable and efficient service condition and to prevent brittle failure in service. However, because fracture tests are limited in size and number of specimen obtained from the structural components, nondestructive test method is required. In this study, the optimum electrochemical parameters are investigated and discussed to evaluate nondestructive embrittlement damage for aged 2.25Cr-1Mo steels by means of electrochemical polarization test method (ECPTM) in proper corrosive environment. In addition, the electrochemical test results are compared with embrittlement degree evaluated by semi-nondestructive SP test.
