Estimation of Structural Damage by Blasting Vibration Considering the Environmental Crack Deformation (일상 환경변화를 고려한 구조물 진동피해의 수준 평가)

  • In order to decide critical vibration level on structural damages induced by near blasting, deformation of existing cracks in structure was investigated and ground vibrations were measured. New criteria to evaluate blasting damage to structure are proposed considering daily deformation of cracks in structures. Results from 2 brick houses in fishing village show that new design criteria far more than current are required to cause structural damage for brick houses.

  • Serious problems of the environment protection and resource exhaustion are exhibited. due to the increase of the construction materials and activation of the remodeling, recently. Especially, most of the advanced countries. recycling plan for the waste concrete is vigorously progressing. The purpose of this study is making advances in the recycling of waste concrete material for use as recycled aggregate to make secondary concrete product. Using recycled aggregates form demolished concrete, we manufactured cement bricks to experiment overall performance in Korean Standard and feasible performances. On the recycled cement, in the case of cement : aggregate is 1 : 7 is satisfied with KS F 4004 : dimensions, water absorption, compressive strength of quality of a standard. So we concluded that it has great feasibility to apply these products to construction industry.

  • This paper presents a simple methodology that integrates an improved storey shear modelling, Incremental Dynamic Analysis and Monte Carlo Simulation in order to carryout vulnerability analysis towards development of fragility curves for Unreinforced Brick Masonry buildings. The methodology is demonstrated by developing fragility curves of a single storey Unreinforced Brick Masonry building for which results of experiment under lateral load is available in the literature. In the study presented, both uncertainties in mechanical properties of masonry and uncertainties in the characteristics of earthquake ground motion are included. The research significance of the methodology proposed is that, it accommodates a new method of damage grade classification which is based on 'structural performance characteristics' instead of 'fixed limiting values'. The usefulness of such definition is discussed as against the existing practice.

Construction stage effect on the dynamic characteristics of RC frame using operational modal analysis

  • In this study, dynamic characteristics such as natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios of RC frame is determined for different construction stages using Operational Modal Analyses method under ambient vibration. Full scaled, one bay and one story RC frames are selected as an application for different construction stages such as plane, brick in-filled and brick in-filled with plaster. The RC frame is vibrated by natural excitations with small impact effects and the response signals are measured using sensitive accelerometers during ambient vibration tests. Measurement time-frequency span and effective mode number are determined by considering similar studies in literature. Sensitive seismic accelerometers are used to collect signals obtained from the experimental tests. To obtain experimental dynamic characteristics, output-only system identification technique is employed namely; Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition technique in the frequency domain. It is demonstrated that the ambient vibration measurements are enough to identify the most significant modes of RC frames.

  • This study aims to investigate the method to reduce the surface temperature caused by insolation. To achieve this goal, surface temperature of building is measured and the effects of exterior material's color and brilliance were checked with infrared imaging. And also, exterior material's absorptances due to outdoor surface heat transfer coefficients were measured. After surface temperature measurement of 37 specimen of 5 categories, the temperature is the highest on wood($53.62^{\circ}C$) and panel($52.05^{\circ}C$). Dryvit, stone, brick is the rating of order. For exterior material's absorptances, panel(0.883) and wood(0.868) were high and Dryvit, stone, brick follows wood and panel.

  • New criteria to evaluate blasting damage to structure is proposed considering environmental caused daily deformation of cracks in structures. Results from 3 brick houses in fishing village shows that more than 10 times higher vibration level than design criteria of 0.5 kine is required to cause structural damage.

  • There have been some studies on the use of coal waste as a raw material for clay bricks due to the lack of naturally producing minerals. It can help resolving the problems of pollution, forest conservation and flood control by utilizing coal waste. However, high content of carbon materials usually leads to the black core in clay bricks after firing process, and diminishes the mechanical and aesthetical properties of clay brick. In this study, the effect of firing process is investigated for the removal of black core in clay bricks with carbon content. The removal kinetics of black core are also compared and investigated with the firing schedule and black core removal.

  • 최근 유치원생과 초등학교 저학년생을 대상으로 프로그래밍 경험을 제공하기 위한 목적으로 다양한 텐저블 프로그래밍 도구들이 개발되고 있다. 개발된 텐저블 프로그래밍 도구들은 순차, 분기, 반복 등의 프로그래밍 개념을 손으로 조립하거나 쌓는 등의 구체적인 조작을 통해 프로그래밍 활동을 체험하도록 설계되었다. 하지만, 텐저블 프그래밍 도구가 순차, 반복, 분기, 변수, 함수 등의 프로그래밍의 개념을 일부만 반영하고 있어 프로그래밍 개념에 대한 체험이 완전하게 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본 연구는 기존에 개발한 텐저블 프로그래밍 도구인 B-Bricks에 조건에 따른 분기와 반복 개념을 추가하여 설계하는 연구로, B-Bricks를 사용하여 조건문과 반복문을 설계하였다.

Field investigation and seismic analysis of a historical brick masonry minaret damaged during the Van Earthquakes in 2011

  • The paper presents the field investigations and seismic analyses of a historical masonry brick minaret damaged during October 23 (Erciş) and November 9 (Edremit), 2011 Van earthquakes in Turkey. Ulu Mosque Minaret located on Tebriz Kap1 Street in the city centre of Van, Turkey is selected for investigation. Two earthquakes hit the minaret within seventeen days, causing progressive damage. It was seen from the field investigations that the minaret was heavily damaged. To validate the field investigations, three dimensional finite element model of the minaret is constituted by ANSYS software using relievo drawings. Finite element model of the minaret is analyzed under the Van earthquake records to determine the seismic behavior. The displacements, maximum and minimum principal stresses and strains are obtained from the analyses and compared with field observations.

Beginning and Characteristics of Stone pagoda in Jeonnam Region (전남지역 석탑의 출현과 특성)

  • Formative and structural characteristics of stone pagoda in Jeonnam area are known in largely two flows. One is that characteristic of stone pagoda in Jeonnam area of the Unified Silla is shown in eastern Jeonnam and some southern Jeonnam. But it is not shown in surroundings of Yeongsan river. Another is that besides stone pagoda in Silla style where social aspects of Goryeo are reflected, stone pagoda in Baekje style appeared. On the other hand, stone brick pagoda and non-typical stone pagoda appeared. These stone pagodas were developed mainly in north and west of Jeonnam, and could be classified in pure Baekje style and a cross style according to formative and structural characteristics. Stone brick pagoda is extant in Wolnamsa site and Woonjusa in Chungcheong and Jella areas which are old places of Baekje.
