  • In this study, the remodeling of the insulation for the study of economic evaluation to find out.   • The objective of this research is to develop real-time failure detection techniques for damage assessment of composite materials using optical fiber sensors. Signals from matrix cracking or fiber fracture in composite laminates are treated by signal processing unit in real-time. This paper describes the implementation of time-frequency analysis such as the Short Time Fourier Transform(STFT) to determine the time of occurrence of failure. In order to verify the performance of the optical fiber sensor for stress wave detection, we performed pencil break test with EFPI sensor and compared it with that of PZT. The EFPI sensor was embedded in composite beam to sense the failure signals and a tensile test was performed. The signals of the fiber optic sensor when damage occurred were characterized using STFT and wavelet transform. Failure detection system detected the moment of failure accurately and showed good sensitivity with the infinitesimal failure signal.

Cure Characteristics, Mechanical Property and Ozone Resistance of Natural Rubber/Bromo Isobutylene Isoprene Rubber Blend

  • Natural rubber (NR) and bromo-isobutylene-isoprene rubber (BIIR) were compounded with other formulation chemicals through polymer blending via a mechanical mixing method. After rubber vulcanization by hot-press compression molding, the cure characteristics, mechanical properties, and ozone resistance of the NR/BIIR blends were measured. As the BIIR content increased, the maximum torque of the blends decreased, while the optimum cure time and scorch time tended to increase. Furthermore, the hardness of the blends increased with increasing BIIR content, reaching the maximum value at 75 wt% BIIR, and decreased with a further increase in the BIIR loading. The tensile strength and elongation at break decreased with an increase in the BIIR content, reaching the minimum value at 75 wt% BIIR, and increased with a further increase in the BIIR content. In the ozone resistance test, cracks were not generated when the BIIR content was more than 75 wt%.

The Compatibilizing Effect of Maleic Anhydride in Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA)/Ethylene-${\alpha}$-Olefin Copolymers Blends

  • The compatibilizing effect of maleic anhydride (MA) in the immiscible blends of EVA22 (vinyl acetate content 22%)/ethylene-${\alpha}$-olefin copolymers with 1-butene (EtBC) and 1-octene (EtOC)) comonomers was studied. By adding 1, 2, and 3 phr of MA in the presence of dicumylperoxide, the morphology, tensile strength at break, and 100 and 300 % modulus of EVA22/EtBC and EVA22/EtOC blends were significantly enhanced. The melting point and crystallization point depression were observed upon the addition of MA. The changes in the ${\beta}$ transition and glass transition temperature of ethylene-${\alpha}$-olefin copolymers and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, respectively, indicate that MA plays a role of compatibilizer for these immiscible blends. The TGA thermograms, measured from the blends with MA, show that thermal stability is slightly enhanced with MA, indicating that MA acts as a reinforcing agent either by grafting or crosslinking with other copolymers.

  • Foundational experiments are conducted to examine the applicability of redox control in brak-point chlorination of ammonia on drinking water purification. Through the research, the behauial affects by ph and temperature to a chloromine forming reactions are evaluated. The possibility of redox control in breakpoint chlorination is recoguized by drawing up the titration curve in terms of redox potential and $C{\ell}_2$/N ratios.

  • Major companies have launched into the film industry since 1990s, which resulted in competition in facilities. In addition, restriction for the number of the prints was removed. Under these circumstances, the cinema has been transformed and developed from the established one-hall cinema into multiplex cinema with large-scaled halls. Contrary to the established cinema, modern cinema are a cultural place within easy access. They accommodate diverse social and cultural needs and their functions have been extending gradually. The waiting areas should not function only as the waiting space for the audience but also the places to attract the audience and provide them with various cultural and art information, and temporary restful break. For this study, the inter-relationship between the structure of the area and the audience are identified objectively by analyzing audience distribution and their routes within the area. The purpose of the study is to provide basic data about the design of the waiting area based on the findings above.

The Deterioration Phenomena for Dielectrics Causing Corona Discharge (Corona방전에 의한 유전체의 열화현상)

  • The object of this project is to manifest the mechanism of deterioration phenomena for dielectrics causing corona discharge and applies it for determine the standard corona detection technique. As the results, we observed that corona discharges may occur more strongly around cylindrical shape electrode in air than hemisphere shape electrode in vacuum, so that it depends on effects such as shape of the electrode, moisture, surface coditions, etc. According to observed the deterioration of dielectrics takes place in following stages. At first the attacked surface by an electron avalanche is uniformly eroded; then pits are formed; after that sharp channels are formed which lead to break-down as a treeing. The test are accelerated with higher frequencies by the cylindrical bar shape electrode in the pulse stright detection method more sensitive than Lissajous patterns. Lissajous patterns detection method is simple but usually insensitive and has disadvantage that the magnitude of the individual discharge is not measured.

  • This paper presents an analyzing method of the capacitance of the power transformer for initial voltage distribution and insulation design. When a high incoming surge voltage is accidently occurred in windings of transformer, it does not distribute equally in the windings. This phenomenon makes electric field concentration and the insulating material could be break. Initial voltage distribute mostly depends on capacitances between winding to winding or winding to core in the transformer. If the C network can be structuralized into the equivalent circuit model and be calculated each capacitance element value by circuit analysis and FEM(Finite Element Method) simulation program, the transformer designer could know the place where the structure is to be modified or the insulation to be reinforced. This method quickly provides the data of the voltage distribution in each winding to the designer.

A Novel AC Solid-State Circuit Breaker with Reclosing and Rebreaking Capability

  • These days, the widespread use of sensitive loads and distributed generators makes the solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) an essential component in power circuits to achieve a high power quality for AC Grids. In traditional AC SSCB using SCRs, some auxiliary mechanical devices are required to make the reclosing operation possible before fault recovery. However, the proposed AC SSCB can break quickly and then be reclosed without auxiliary mechanical devices even during the short-circuit fault. Moreover, its fault current breaking time is short and its SSCB reclosing operation is fast. This results in a reduction of the economic losses due to fault currents and power outages. Through simulations and experiments on short-circuit faults, the performance characteristics of the proposed AC SSCB are verified. A design guideline is also suggested to apply the proposed AC SSCB to various AC grids.

  • The line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor has a high efficiency and an advantage in constant speed operation regardless of the effect of load variation. However it is difficult to predict the performance of characteristics accurately, because of the unbalanced starting torque with the initial starting position of the rotor and the generation of a break torque. In this paper the dynamic characteristics of the line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor are described and compared with those of the squirrel-cage induction motor through the simulation to find the characteristics of the permanent magnets and the rotor bars in the line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor.
