  • Driving behaviors are reported to be vulnerable to safe driving in unexpected situations or driving in the city due to deterioration of physical and cognitive functions in elderly drivers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in driving behaviors according to age of self-drivers and to identify changes in physical function related to driving caused by normal aging. The subjects of the study included 75 healthy adults (21 persons aged 20-39 years, 40 persons 40-64 years, 14 persons 65 years old) who were self-driving and possessed a driver's license. Data included sex, dominant hand, medication, exercise, age, and driving time obtained by a self-reported questionnaire. In addition, this study measured steering, acceleration and braking using a Driver Test Station. Results of the study showed there was no significant difference in power test according to age group, but the total time of the timer test and the emergency brake test significantly differed according to age. The timer test and emergency brake test were completed fastest in young adults between 20 and 39 years old and completed slowest in elderly people 65 years old or over. Based on our study results, it is suggested that normal aging affects the perceptual-cognitive processes associated with driving behaviors.

  • The characteristics of intake port flow and engine performance with swirl ratio variance in a turbocharged D.I. diesel engine were studied in this paper. The intake port flow is important factor which have influence on the engine performance and exhaust emission because the properties in the injected fuel depend on the combustion characteristics. Through these experiments it can be expected to satisfy performance and emission by optimizing the main parameters; the swirl ratio of intake port, injection timing and compression ratio. The swirl ratio for ports was modified by hand-working and measured by impulse swirl meter. For the effects on performance and emission, the brake torque and brake specific fuel consumption were measured by engine dynamometer, NOx and smoke were measured by gas analyzer and smoke meter. The results of steady flow test are as follows; as the valve eccentricity ratio are closed to cylinder wall, the flow coefficient and swirl intensity are increased. Also we realized that there is a trade-off that the increase of swirl ratio decreases mean flow coefficient and increases the Gulf factor. And the optimum parameters to meet performance and emission through engine test are as follows; the swirl ratio 2.43, injection timing BTDC 13oCA and compression ratio 15.5.

  • A study is improvement of power and emission in a inline-pump Dr diesel engine by using Dimethyl ether Fuel. Dimethyl ether (DME) is an oxygenated fuel with a cetane number higher than that of diesel oil. It meets the ULEV emission regulation and reduces the smoke to almost zero when used in a diesel engine. But NOx emission is almost same and CO, THC emissions are lower than that of diesel engine. The emissions aren't satisfied the stronger emission regulation in the further. Generally DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) is used to reduce CO & THC emissions and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system is used to reduce NOx emission. Test results showed that the torque and the power with DME were almost same as those of pure diesel oil, but the brake thermal efficiency increased a little. also the BSEC (Brake Specific Energy Consumption) with DME was similar that of diesel. The test results showed that the DOC was the vary effective method to reduce the CO emission in case of Dimethyl Ether Fuel in diesel engine. But, THC emission is showed a little reduction rates. Also EGR system was the very effective method to reduce the NOx emission in case of Dimethyl Ether Fuel in diesel engine.

  • In this study, wear characteristics and microstructure changes due to changes in alloy composition of Ni-Cr-Mo-V and Ni-Cr-Mo low-alloy steels used in brake discs for transportation system such as aircraft and high-speed trains. As a result of the hardness test, the hardness of C-Mo-V steel was the highest at 39.4±0.9HRc, and the hardness of Ni-Cr-Mo steel was the lowest at 32.4±0.6HRc. The friction coefficient tended to decrease as the vertical load increased. At a vertical load of 1 N, the friction coefficient of Ni-Cr-Mo steel was the highest at 0.842, and at a vertical load of 5 N, Mn-Cr-V steel was the highest at 0.696. Ni-Cr-Mo showed the largest wear scar width, depth, and wear amount, with a width of 711 ㎛, a depth of 8.24 ㎛, and a wear amount of 11 mg under a vertical load of 1 N, and a width of 1,017 ㎛, a depth of 19.17 ㎛, and a wear amount of 17 mg under a vertical load of 5 N. As a result of wear mechanism analysis, ploughing, delamination, and adhesion in all specimens, with plastic deformation being more prominently observed in Ni-Cr-Mo.

  • Until now, most studies of foot moving or driving posture have been performed under laboratory driving conditions. But there are many different things between actual driving conditions and laboratory driving conditions because, in laboratory conditions, it is hard to consider vehicle's noise, vibration and people's psychology state while driving. Thus this study is performed through actual driving conditions. And while driving test, we recorded driver's foots with 2 cameras to investigate foots(left and right) heel point and how human foots move to control the three pedals : accel, brake and footrest.. Through driving test, the results of this study show that the position of driver's heel point isn't related to stature and tends to be generalized.

  • Maglev vehicles levitated and propelled by electromagnet as non-contact between vehicle and guide rail is environmentally friendly transport system which have many advantages like ride comfort and guide way construction costs. As a goal of commercial operation at Incheon International Airport in 2012, development of vehicle is underway and proto-vehicle is test running at KIMM. The maglev bogie system of proto-vehicle, like railway vehicle, has functions to support weight of vehicle, transfer force of brake and propulsion and improve ride comfort through insulation of vibration and improve curve negotiation capability. The main components of a bogie are two modules consisted of electromagnetic, frame and linear motor, two tie beams to connect two modules and steering system to improve curve negotiation capability. The purpose of this paper is to describe general specification, structure, manufacturing process, performance testing, ride comfort of proto-vehicle and bogie system.

The aim is studied in context of motor control system and algorithms for the mid to low level control of tele operation unmanned vehicle described. Modern, vehicle related researches have been implemented about control, chassis, body and safe쇼 but now is to driving comfort, I.T.S. and human factor, etc. As a result of this fact, unmanned vehicle is main research topic over the world but it is still very expensive and unreasonable. A hierarchical approach is studied in context of motor control system and algorithms for the mid to low level control of tele operation unmanned vehicle described. The real time control and monitoring of longitudinal, lateral, Pitching motion is to be solved by system integration and optimization technique. We show the experimental result about fixed brake range test and acceleration test. And all system is to integrated for driving simulator and unmanned vehicle.

  • Latching control was applied to a Wave Energy Converter (WEC) buoy with direct linear electric Power Take-Off (PTO) systems oscillating in heave direction in waves. The equation of the motion of the WEC buoy in the time-domain is characterized by the wave exciting, hydrostatic, radiation forces and by several damping forces (PTO, brake, and viscous). By applying numerical schemes, such as the semi-analytical and Newmark ${\beta}$ methods, the time series of the heave motion and velocity, and the corresponding extracted power may be obtained. The numerical prediction with the latching control is in accordance with the experimental results from the systematic 1:10-model test in a wave tank at Seoul National University. It was found that the extraction of wave energy may be improved by applying latching control to the WEC, which particularly affects waves longer than the resonant period.
