This study investigated the distribution of scuticociliates in the intestine, spleen, kidney, testis, brain, pericondrial bone and muscle layer of the tiger puffer, Takifugu rubripes, infected with scuticociliates. Scuticociliates were infiltrated in the connective tissues of the outer layer of the intestine, spleen, kidney, testis, brain, pericondrial bone and muscle layer. In brain, membranous tissue and optic lobe cortex separation were accompanied by the infection of scuticociliates. Other internal tissues and organs did not show any lesions expect for heavy deposition of hemosiderin in spleen.
Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive brain disease, for which there is no effective drug therapy at present. Ginsenoside Rg1 (G-Rg1) and G-Rg2 have been reported to alleviate memory deterioration. However, the mechanism of their anti-AD effect has not yet been clearly elucidated. Methods: Ultra performance liquid chromatography tandem MS (UPLC/MS)-based metabolomics was used to identify metabolites that are differentially expressed in the brains of AD mice with or without ginsenoside treatment. The cognitive function of mice and pathological changes in the brain were also assessed using the Morris water maze (MWM) and immunohistochemistry, respectively. Results: The impaired cognitive function and increased hippocampal $A{\beta}$ deposition in AD mice were ameliorated by G-Rg1 and G-Rg2. In addition, a total of 11 potential biomarkers that are associated with the metabolism of lysophosphatidylcholines (LPCs), hypoxanthine, and sphingolipids were identified in the brains of AD mice and their levels were partly restored after treatment with G-Rg1 and G-Rg2. G-Rg1 and G-Rg2 treatment influenced the levels of hypoxanthine, dihydrosphingosine, hexadecasphinganine, LPC C 16:0, and LPC C 18:0 in AD mice. Additionally, G-Rg1 treatment also influenced the levels of phytosphingosine, LPC C 13:0, LPC C 15:0, LPC C 18:1, and LPC C 18:3 in AD mice. Conclusion: These results indicate that the improvements in cognitive function and morphological changes produced by G-Rg1 and G-Rg2 treatment are caused by regulation of related brain metabolic pathways. This will extend our understanding of the mechanisms involved in the effects of G-Rg1 and G-Rg2 on AD.

The trace-level mercury in bio-materials has been determinated by the anodic stripping square wave voltammetry (ASSWV)-technique at glassy carbon electrode. Prior to the analysis, the bio-materials were digested with $HNO_3/H_2SO_4$ mixture and KMnO4 was added to complete an oxidation process of the mixture. The detection limit of the mercury varied greatly with deposition time, deposition potential, pH and stirring rate. When the deposition was carried out for 240 sec on 400 rpm stirring at -1.0 volts vs. Ag/AgCl, the detection limit was below 0.5 ppb ($2.5{\times}10^{-9}M$). The accumulated mercury was high in the kidney and liver, and low in the brain according to the determination of mercury accumulation for a white rat by this method.
A tetrode is one of the neural electrodes, and it is widely used to record neural signals in the brain of a freely moving animal. The impedance of a neural electrode is an important parameter because it determines the signal-to-noise ratio of the recorded neural signals. Here, we developed a modification technique using carbon nanotube-polypyrrole composite nanostructures to decrease the impedances of tetrodes. The synthesis of the carbon nanotube and polypyrrole nanostructures was performed in two steps. In the first step, randomly dispersed carbon nanotubes and pyrrole monomers were gathered and aligned on the tetrode electrode. Next, they were electro-polymerized on the electrode surface. As the applied time (step-1 and step-2) and the offset voltage increased, the impedances of the tetrodes decreased. The modification technique is, therefore, an important and useful of lowering the impedances of tetrodes.
In the brain, glial cells serve in the role to sequester metal from the neural microenvironment and therefore play an important role as a cellular deposition site. The central nervous system is highly vulnerable to oxidative stress, and free iron can stimulate oxidative stress by the Fenton reaction. Aluminum may upregulates the transferrin-independent iron uptake system and stimulate oxidative stress. Nramp2. also known as DMT 1. is a 12-transmembrane(TM) domain protein responsible for dietary iron uptake as well as metal ions such as iron. lead, mangamese. zinc. copper, and cobait. (omitted)

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by $\beta$-amyloid deposition and associated with loss of neuron cells in brain regions involved in learning and memory process. Many cases of early onset autosomal dominant inherited forms of AD are caused by mutation in the genes encoding presenilin-2 (PS-2).(omitted)
Cerebral amyloid angiopathy[CAA] is characterized by the deposition of amyloid ${\beta}-protein$ in the walls of small to medium-sized arteries of the leptomeninges and cerebral cortex. While often asymptomatic, CAA can develop into intracerebral hemorrhage facilitated by arterial hypertension. We report the case of a 52-year-old man with CAA and arterial hypertension who developed recurrent cerebral hemorrhages on three different occasions and in multiple non-overlapping loci over a period of nine years. Based on our findings, we recommend brain biopsies for all patients undergoing evacuation of multiple recurrence or atypical pattern intracerebral hemorrhages.
Wilson disease a rare autosomal recessive inherited disorder of copper metabolism, is characterized by excessive deposition of copper in the liver, brain, and other tissues. Wilson disease is often fatal if it is not recognized early and treated when it is symptomatic. Gitelman syndrome is also an autosomal recessive kidney disorder characterized by low blood levels of potassium and magnesium, decreased excretion of calcium in the urine, and elevated blood pH. Hereditary sensory autonomic neuropathy type IV (HSAN-IV), a very rare condition that presents in infancy, is characterized by anhidrosis, absence of pain sensation, and self-mutilation. It is usually accompanied by developmental delay and mental retardation. We report a case of Wilson disease manifested as fulminant hepatitis, acute pancreatitis, and acute kidney injury in a 15-year-old boy comorbid with HSAN-IV and Gitelman syndrome. Such concurrence of three genetic diseases is an extremely rare case.

Objective: To assess focal mineral deposition in the globus pallidus (GP) by CT and quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) of MRI scans and evaluate its clinical significance, particularly cerebrovascular degeneration. Materials and Methods: This study included 105 patients (66.1 ± 13.7 years; 40 male and 65 female) who underwent both CT and MRI with available QSM data between January 2017 and December 2019. The presence of focal mineral deposition in the GP on QSM (GPQSM) and CT (GPCT) was assessed visually using a three-point scale. Cerebrovascular risk factors and small vessel disease (SVD) imaging markers were also assessed. The clinical and radiological findings were compared between the different grades of GPQSM and GPCT. The relationship between GP grades and cerebrovascular risk factors and SVD imaging markers was assessed using univariable and multivariable linear regression analyses. Results: GPCT and GPQSM were significantly associated (p < 0.001) but were not identical. Higher GPCT and GPQSM grades showed smaller gray matter (p = 0.030 and p = 0.025, respectively) and white matter (p = 0.013 and p = 0.019, respectively) volumes, as well as larger GP volumes (p < 0.001 for both). Among SVD markers, white matter hyperintensity was significantly associated with GPCT (p = 0.006) and brain atrophy was significantly associated with GPQSM (p = 0.032) in at univariable analysis. In multivariable analysis, the normalized volume of the GP was independently positively associated with GPCT (p < 0.001) and GPQSM (p = 0.002), while the normalized volume of the GM was independently negatively associated with GPCT (p = 0.040) and GPQSM (p = 0.035). Conclusion: Focal mineral deposition in the GP on CT and QSM might be a potential imaging marker of cerebral vascular degeneration. Both were associated with increased GP volume.

Cerebral palsy(CP) is a motor disorder of the central nervous system resulting from irreversible brain injury due to congenital or acquired causes. Health-related quality of their life is associated with severity of impairment and socioeconomic factors. These patients are particularly easy to be neglected because they lack capacity to care themselves unless they have the help of caregiver from high socioeconomic status. A 11-year-old girl with severe motor impairment came with the chief complaint of severe calculus deposition on whole dentition. She was taken with bed-ridden state with pediatrician not her parents. Since brain was damaged at the age of two, she has been left alone in the city care hospitals without parental care. Main caregiver is her father with not high educational level. Oral hygiene was not performed at all. Severe calculus deposition, gingival swelling, and gingival redness around the whole dentition were observed. During the 1st and 2nd visit, scaling and extraction was performed. CP patients with low socioeconomic status and severe motor impairment tend to be neglected from dental treatment. Dental care, along with medical care, is crucial to the quality of CP patients' lives. Therefore it is important that they visit for regular dental check ups and receive preventative care.
