  • The bracket tilt among automobile parts is weld parts which construct the column assembly bracket tilt of equipments and accurate dimension after welding is more essential than weldment strength. By the way, it is insufficient that systematic study about this parts which have an importance on welding deformation. The reason is that welding deformation is complex problem with shape, size, material of parts and welding sequence, conditions etc. For reduction and removal of welding deformation, therefore, it is necessary that the security of welding deformation data and systematic examination about equipment, costs, work environment, manufacturing process etc. It is all the better that the prediction of welding deformation using simulation of welding process by FEA is supplemented. In this study, the countermeasure for this welding deformation of bracket tilt is brought up through experimental inspection before the choice of the optimum welding conditions with minimum welding deformation by simulation of welding process.

Changes in lip and periornl soft tissue after bracket removal (브라켓 제거에 따른 입술과 주위 연조직의 변화)

  • Objective: Soft tissue changes due to orthodontic treatment has large individual variation. Therefore continuous evaluation during treatment is required. Patients with fixed orthodontic appliances often wonder if their lip positions will change after the removal of brackets, but only a few studies exist on this topic. The objective of this study was to evaluate the changes of the lips and perioral soft tissue after bracket removal. Methods: The sample used in this study was 19 males and 33 females. Cephalometric X-rays were taken at 3 stages - T1 (before debonding), T2 (just after debonding), T3 (1.5 months after debonding). Results: The lower lip was retruded immediately after debonding (T2-T1), and 1.5 months after debonding (T3-T2). The mean amounts of retrusion from the vertical reference plane (sG perpendicular line) were about 0.38 mm for the upper lip and 0.88 mm for the lower lip. Immediately after debonding, lip retrusion of females was greater than that of males. During the post-debonding period, lower lip of males was retruded more than that of females. Conclusion: Lips are retruded after bracket removal, and there is no gender difference 1.5 months after debonding.

Comparative Study on Element Removal Methods for ESO (진화적 구조 최적화를 위한 요소 제거법의 비교 연구)

  • In case ESO(evolutionary structural optimization) which is one of topology optimization methods, the element removal ratio is fixed throughout topology optimization by 1 or 2%. As a result it has no flexibility for various types of structures and thus the rate of convergence might not be efficient. Thus various element removal methods were developed in order to improve the efficiency of ESO. In this paper, various element removal methods for ESO are compared with each other for a bracket and a short cantilever. In addition, a new improved bi-directional element removal method is suggested in order to obtain much better optimized topology. From the comparative results of the examples, it is verified that all of the developed various element removal methods are very effective, and the suggested element removal method is the most effective.

Effect of passive self-ligating bracket placement on the posterior teeth on reduction of frictional force in sliding mechanics

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the static (SFF) and kinetic frictional forces (KFF) in sliding mechanics of hybrid bracket systems that involve placing a conventional bracket (CB) or active self-ligating bracket (ASLB) on the maxillary anterior teeth (MXAT) and a passive SLB (PSLB) on the maxillary posterior teeth (MXPT). Methods: The samples consisted of two thoroughbred types (group 1, anterior-CB + posterior-CB; group 2, anterior-ASLB + posterior-ASLB) and four hybrid types (group 3, anterior-CB + posterior-PSLB-type 1; group 4, anterior-CB + posterior-PSLB-type 2; group 5, anterior-ASLB + posterior-PSLB-type 1; group 6, anterior-ASLB + posterior-PSLB-type 2) (n = 13 per group). After maxillary dentition alignment and maxillary first premolars removal in the stereolithographically-made typodont system, a $0.019{\times}0.025$-inch stainless steel wire was drawn through the right quadrant of the maxillary arch at 0.5 mm/min for 5 min. The SFF and KFF were measured with a mechanical testing machine and statistical analyses were performed. Results: Four different categories of SFF and KFF were observed among all groups (all p < 0.001). Group 1 demonstrated the highest SFF and KFF; groups 4 and 3 were second and third highest, respectively. The fourth category included groups 2, 5, and 6. Placing PSLBs on the MXPT resulted in significant SFF and KFF reductions in cases with CBs on the MXAT, but not in cases with ASLBs on the MXAT. Conclusions: These data might aid in the development of a hybrid bracket system that enables low-friction sliding of an archwire through the MXPT.

Effective Element Removal Methods for Topology Optimization (위상 최적화를 위한 효율적인 요소 제거법)

Thus various element removal methods are developed in order to improve the efficiency of ESO. In this paper, various element removal methods for ESO are compared with each other. Each element removal method is explained, and applied to a bracket and a Michell type of beam. In addition, a new bi-directional element removal method is suggested in order to obtain much better optimized topology. From the results of stress, displacement and the rate of convergence for the examples under the same mass constraints, it is verified that the suggested element removal method is the most effective. .

  • The purposes of this study were to evaluate and compare the frequency of ceramic bracket fracture, frequency of enamel fracture, bond fracture site, adhesive remnant index after mechanical and electrothermal debracketing, to evaluate effectiveness of high and low speed rotary instrument and ultrasonic instrument during residual adhesive remnants removal, and to measure resin film surface(percentage) using by image analyser(Leco 300). Bond fracture site, bracket fracture, and enamel surface damage were examined by scanning electron microscope. The following results were obained : 1. In the mechanical debracketing group, the bond failed predominantly at enamel-adhesive interface with the bulk of adhesive remaining on bracket base. 2. In the eletrothermal debracketing group, the bond failed predominantly at adhesive-bracket interface with the bulk of adhesive remaining on enamel surface. 3. The most effectiveness of residual resin removal was obtained by means of the resin polishing bur and the order of scratch formation was the procedure using tungsten carbide bur, ultrasonic scaler, sof-lex disc, and polishing bur. 4. The order of the resin film surface percentage was ultrasonic scaler, tungsten carbide bur, sof-lex disc, and resin polishing bur.

An experimental study on plaque removal effect through the acting types of the electric toothbrushes (전동칫솔모의 작동형태에 따른 치면세균막 제거율에 관한 실험연구)

  • Objectives : The removal of most reliable mechanical dental plaque that is to say tooth brushing was generalized to control of dental plaque, many oral health goods have also developed due to the effect differences followed by individual habit. The electric toothbrush have studied and developed widely as major field of study that electric toothbrush having various moving phase was sold and developed at the market. Methods : Accordingly author studied about selling electric toothbrushes shape (vibration type, ultra-sonic minuteness vibration type, semi rotation type) to raise the efficiency after comparing to the moving them that total 8 groups classified by poor tooth models for example normal set of tooth, crowding tooth, bracket attached tooth, prosthetic status etc. and executed plaque removal effect on the tooth through comparing experiment. Results : The removal rate of artificial plaque on the tooth was improved in proportion to the increase of tooth brushing time(p<0.05). The ultra-sonic minuteness vibration and semi rotation type was superior to toothbrush of vibration type comparing to the removal rate of plaque on the tooth(p<0.05). Conclusions : The electric toothbrush of supersonic minuteness vibration and semi rotation type can be recommended most of tooth types regardless of oral tooth setting status for example, normal set of tooth, crowding tooth, bracket attached tooth, porcelain tooth.

ENAMEL SURFACE EVALUATION ON VARIOUS REMOVAL TECHNIQUE OF BRACKET (DBS): A STUDY WITH THE SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY (수종의 BRACKET(DBS)제거방법에 따른 법랑질 표면에 대한 주사전자현미경적 연구)

  • With modification of the acid etch technique and improvements of the physical and mechanical properties of the acrylic resin, the removal of directly bonded attachments and the finishing of the underlying enamel have become an acute clinical problem. This study was to evaluation the efficacy of recently introduced instrumentation and techniques to remove bonded brackets and residual resin, and restore the affected enamel surface to an acceptable clinical condition. Fortyeight premolar which were scheduled for extraction for orthodontic purposes were bonded with brackets using super-C ortho. Four additional premolars with untreated surfaces were used as controls. After one weak the brackets were removed and the residual resin removed by hand scaler, green stone, green rubber wheel, sandpaper disc, tungsten carbide bur, Sof-lex disc. Half the experimental teeth were given a final pumicing and then all were extracted and stored in 50 percent ethanol. The scanning electron microscopy was used to evaluated the enamel surface. Following results were obtained; 1. A satisfactory result was obtained by means of the Sof-lex disc. 2. The order of the scratch formation was the procedure using hand scaler, green atone, tungsten carbide bur, sandpaper disc, green rubber wheel, and Sof-lex disc. 3. The procedures using green stone and tungsten carbide bur showed many groove formations and the other procedures showed none. 4. final pumicing serves effectively to remove residual adhesive and restore the enamel surface.

Histologic changes of pulpal tissue after laser-aided ceramic bracket debonding (레이저를 이용한 도재 브라켓 제거 술식 후 치수의 조직학적 변화)

  • Laser-aided debonding has advantages in that the heat produced is localized and controlled, the debonding tool is not heated, and it can be used for the removal of various types of ceramic brackets, regardless of their design. However, the range of safe power usage for laser-aided debonding has not vet been confirmed. The Purpose of this study was to evaluate the histologic changes of pulpal tissue in a rabbit's incisor after Nd-YAG laser-aided ceramic bracket debonding at different levels of power. The result were as follows: 1. At 3-5W Nd-YAG laser power level and 3 seconds of exposure time, the ceramic bracket debonding procedure was not easy. At 5W of power a tie-wing fracture occurred on one bracket during debonding using Weingart plier. The histologic section of pulp represented no adverse changes. 2. At 7-13 W power level and less than 5 seconds of exposure time, the debracketing procedure was done easily and bracket facture did not occur. The histologic section of pulp represented mild and reversible changes. All the results were reversible and no pulpal degeneration or necrosis occurred. Considering the results, it appears that the laser-aided debonding technique is a safe method that does not result in irreversible pulpal changes, softens bracket bonding resin within a saie range of power and exposure time, and is useful for ceramic bracket recycling by lowering the tie- wing fracture rate.

Tooth color changes associated with the bracket bonding and debonding (교정치료 시 브라켓 부착 및 제거에 따른 치아색 변화)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tooth color changes of resin bonding sites and their adjacent sites on orthodontic bracket bonding. Sixty extracted sound premolars were used and the tooth color was recorded according to the CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color system using a spectrophotometer. The tooth colors of the twenty premolars were measured and compared before bracket bonding and after removal. On a further twenty premolars, the tooth color was measured before and after only primer application. In the change of $L^*$ values, according to the bracket bonding and primer application, the lightness was decreased, and in the change of $a^*\;and\;b^*$ values, the color was changed into a more yellowish color The color differences $({\Delta}E^*)$ were calculated from the $L^*a^*b^*$ values and compared with the standard value of clinical detection $({\Delta}E^*=3.7)$. The color differences between before the bracket bonding and after removal noted exceeded the standard value and those of between before and after the primer application were not larger than the standard value. Toothbrushing was performed after application of the primer to evaluate the color changes according to the primer abrasion. As a control, toothbrushing was performed on the last twenty premolars. The color differences noted were larger than the standard value after toothbrushing. Also, to evaluate the color changes of the tooth which is exposed to sun irradiation after bracket removal, additional photoaging was performed and the color was measured for all teeth. The additional color differences after photoaging were smaller than the standard value. The above results suggest that the tooth color changes after fixed orthodontic treatment.
