It is addressed that the turbulent broadband sound power from a sirocco fan can be modeled by the trailing edge noise. The trailing edge noise is usually influenced by inflow turbulence, separation, and boundary layer on the blade. The design parameters such as solidity(c/s) and stagger angle are specified to predict performance and noise level because the separation and slip velocity are strong1y affected by them along with the flow coefficient. This paper presents a theoretical approach to describe the vibration characteristics of a piezoelectric shell transducer. Governing equations for the motion of the piezoelectric shell are classified and simplified according to the boundary conditions. Applied mechanical and electrical boundary conditions have yielded each characteristic equation for circumferential, longitudinal, and radial motions of the piezoelectric shell transducer. Theoretical calculations of the resonance frequencies have been compared with the results obtained by the experiment and have shown a good agreement.

Radiation efficiency of a cylindrical shell whose surface vibrates under harmonic distribution is investigated by theoretical solutions and Boundary Element Method. The vibration modes of a cylindrical shell is determined from experiment and is compared with the result of Finite Element Method. Harmonic vibration response of the cylindrical shell under the point excitation and the radiation phenomena from its response is analyzed by Finite Element Method and Boundary Element Method.
Non-singular boundary element method (BEM) codes are developed in acoustics application. The BEM code is then used to calculate unknown boundary surface normal displacements and surface pressures from known exterior near field pressures. And then the calculated surface normal displacements and surface pressures are again applied to the BEM in forward in order to calculate reconstructed field pressures. (omitted)
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the natural frequencies and mode shapes of tapered beams with general boundary condition(translational and rotational elastic support) at one end and carrying a tip mass of rotatory inertia at the other end. The beam model is based on the classical Bernoulli-Euler beam theory which neglects the effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation. (omitted)
This paper deals with the free vibrations of arches with general boundary condition. Based on the dynamic equilibrium equations of a arch element acting the stress resultants and the inertia forces, the governing differential equation is derived for the in-plane free vibration of such arches. Differential equations are solved numerically to calculate natural frequencies. In numerical examples, the parabolic arch is considered. The effects of the arch rise to span length ratio, the slenderness ratio, the vertical spring coefficient and the rotational spring coefficient on the natural frequencies are analyzed.
The possibility of global noise reduction by the sound power control through selection of distribution and impedance of absorptive materials is discussed. It is necessary to investigate the relation between the global sound energy in the field and the total sound power radiated by sources. In the previous work,$^{(1.2)}$ the authors presented a useful design method to change boundary condition that can be useful to reduce noise in acoustically small enclosures. Changing boundary condition Is related to not only enclosure’s geometrical shape but also acoustical treatment on walls for example, attaching of impedance patches (ex: absorptive material). In many practical situations, we often meet situation to change acoustical treatment on walls. The possibility of total acoustic potential energy(globa1 noise) reduction by acoustic source power control is examined in an acoustically small cavity Using acoustic energy balance equation, the relation between global noise control performance and absorptive material’s arrangement/impedance is deduced. Numerical simulation is performed to interpret its physical meaning in terms of absorbent’s distribution and impedance.
A computational procedure to estimate the noise radiated from a discharge valve system in a linear compressor was discussed and established. This procedure was composed of three steps. As the first step, the dynamic behavior of the valve system was estimated taking into consideration of fluid-valve-piston interactions. As the second step, the flow characteristics of refrigerant in the discharge valve system were estimated through computational fluid dynamics applying the behaviors of the valves as moving boundary conditions. The variations of pressures and velocities of fluid were converted to quadrupole noise sources. As the final step, the boundary element method based on Helmholtz equation was applied to predict the radiated acoustic pressure. The computational results by the presented procedure were experimentally validated.
Power flow analysis(PFA) is introduced for solving the noise and vibration analysis of system structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. The vibration analysis software, $PFADS_{C++}$ R4 based on power flow finite element method(PFFEM) and the noise prediction software, $NASPFA_{C++}$ R1 based on power flow boundary element method(PFBEM) are developed. In this paper, the coupled PFFE/PFBE method is used to investigate the vibration and radiated noise of the rotary compressor. PFFEM is employed to analyze the vibrational responses of the rotary compressor, and PFBEM is applied to analyze the radiation noise around rotary compressor. The vibrational energy of the structure is used as an acoustic intensity boundary condition of PFBEM. Numerical simulations are presented for the rotary compressor, and reliable results have been obtained.
