  • In this study, the physical and mechanical characteristics of Bottom-ash exhausted from each of steam power plant was considered. The comparative objects were Bottom-ash in which a lot of powder contained and that in which less than that relatively contained. The difference in quantity of powder showed different effect on the character of flow. This study was undertaken on the use of Bottom-ash as a fine aggregate, and showed the optimum mixing and the character of flow according to each rate. And this study showed the quantity of water and binder added in different Bottom-ash was differently used.

  • Ferroelectric lead ziroconate titanate (PZT) thin film were fabricated on the different bottom electrodes. Both Ru and Ru/RuO$_2$bottom electrodes were deposited by RF-magnetron sputteirng method. The structure phase and surface morphology of the PZT thin film were largely affected by the bottom electrode. It was observerd that used of Ru/RuO$_2$double electrode reduced leakage current and better ferroelectric properties compare with RuO$_2$bottom electrode. From these results, Ru/RuO$_2$hybride bottom electrode is thought to be the available structure for the bottom electrode.

  • Mechanical characteristics of bottom ash produced in coal-fired power plant are investigated to utilize as light-weight fill materials. Triaxial compression test, water retention test, and unsaturated direct shear test were conducted for weathered soil (WS), reclaimed bottom ash (RBA), and screened bottom ash (BA). RBA had larger frictional angle and lower effective cohesion than those of WS. Water retention charactersitics of RBA and BA existed within distributions of soil-water characteristic curves for domestic weathered soils. Unsaturated shear strength of RBA was similar to that of WS at matric suctions of 50 kPa and 100 kPa. As a conclusion, bottom ash can be used as fill materials to replace the conventional construction materials by.

  • Recently, coal ashes which are increasing annually are buried in ash ponds as industrial wastes. However, buried coal ashes can pollute ground water and ground due to leachate from coal ashes, which are serious environmental problem. Even though a lot of researches on recycling of coal ashes have been conducted, only 15% of coal ashes are recycled up to now. And those recycled coal ashes are not bottom ashes but fly ashes. So in this study, it was proved that Bottom Ash can be used as an alternative material to O.P.C(Ordinary Portland Cement) according to laboratory test results and test field construction. Also bottom ash is more economical and environmentally friendly than O.P.C.

  • As mechanical components are miniaturized, the demand on micro die and mold is increasing. Micro mechanical components usually have high hardness and good conductivity. So micro electrical discharge machining (MEDM) is an effective way to machine those components. In micro cavity fabrication using MEDM, it is observed that the bottom surface of cavity is distorted. Electric charges tend to be concentrated at the sharp edge. At the center of the bottom surface, debris can not be drawn off easily. These two phenomena make the bottom surface of the electrode and workpiece distort. As machining depth increases, the distorted shape of electrode approaches hemisphere. This process is affected by capacitance and the size of electrode. By using a smaller electrode than the desired cavity size and appropriate tool movement, bottom shape distortion can be prevented.

  • A numerical study of the process of wave deformation, such as reflection and transmission coefficients and wave forms with bottom change was carried out by Boundary Element Method using linear elements. It is assumed that the incident wave is normal and oblique to the bottom and the wave may be described by linear theory The accuracy of the computational scheme is investigated by comparing the results of other researchers in the following several cases. (1) Simple and sloping stepped bottom geometry (2) Submerged breakater type bottom geometry (3) Trench type bottom geometry

  • Bottom ash, which is discharged through a wet process in a thermal power plant, contains much unburned coal due to quenching and much salt due to seawater. However, dry bottom ash discharged through a dry process contains low unburned coal and salt, and has light -weight due to many pores. Therefore, it is expected that it can be used as lightweight aggregate. This study deals with the basic properties of concrete used dry bottom ash as coarse aggregate. As a results, the concrete having high content of dry bottom ash aggregate showed high slump by using water reducing agent and its air content was within 5±1.5% as designed value, similarly to normal weight concrete. It also showed a lower compressive strength than 100% of crushed stone.

  • In this study we investigated the gas to solid heat transfer of bubbling fluidized bed bottom ash cooler installed at the Donghae power plant in South Korea. Several different analyses are done through 1-D calculations and 3-D CFD simulation to predict the bottom ash exit temperatures when it exits the ash cooler. Three different cases are set up to have consideration of unburnt carbon in the bottom ash. Sensible heat comparison and heat transfer calculation between the fluidization air and the bottom ash are conducted and 3-D CFD analysis is done on three cases. We have obtained the results that the bottom ash with unburnt carbon is exiting the ash cooler, exceeding the targeted temperature from both 1-D calculation and 3-D CFD simulation.
