  • Sodam oyster mushroom(Pleurotus ostreatus were bred in Mushroom Research Institute, Gyonggi Province A.R.E.S in 2002. Sodam oyster mushroom were bred and cultivated one after mating single spores collected from Aenutari 1-ho and Suhan 1-ho. The major characteristics of the mushroom are showing a lot of pinheadings, the gray-colored and shallow cornhead-shaped pileus. Around 20 days at $20^{\circ}C$ were required for incubation of Sodam and the yield was shown high by 148.2g/bottle. As the activity of hypha is so strong, the proper time of pinheading is demanded.

  • 'Geumhyang2ho', a new brown and labor-saving variety of Flammulina velutipes, was bred by spontaneous crossing between 'Geumhyang' and 'Garlmoe' during demonstration cultivation in bag culture farm of oyster mushroom in 2013. During bottle cultivation, the temperature was maintained at $16^{\circ}C$; the variety displayed good quality compared to the control ('Geumhyang'), without necessitating vinyl cone treatment. The time periods necessary for mycelial growth, fruit body growth, and primordia formation were 24 days, 11 days, and 8 days, respectively. The total cultivation period was 43 days, which was 2 days longer than that of the control. The pileus diameter was smaller, but the pileus thickness and stipe diameter were greater than those of the control. The pileus color was yellowish ivory, which was very similar to that of the control. The yield of 'Geumhyang2ho' was 118 g per 850 ml bottle, which was markedly lower than that for bottle cultivation with vinyl cone treatment. However, its good quality suggests the potential of the labor-saving bottle-based cultivation of 'Geumhyang2ho' without vinyl cone treatment in oyster mushroom farms.

  • This study was carried out to develop a method for cultivation of Lentinula edodes that would reduce both labor and waste. Cultural characteristics were studied, and mushroom yields were estimated to identify the most suitable method to culture L. edodes, using bottles and boxes. Among these, box cultivation with 7 kg of substrate had 40 days of browning period and the maximum yield of 945 g fruiting body; its biological efficiency was 32.7%. In contrast, box cultivation after pre-culture, and the bottle cultivation were found to be unsuitable for the production of L. edodes, due to long periods of browning, and low yields with poor quality, respectively. Further studies on box cultivation of L. edodes are necessary for commercial application of this method.

  • The mycelial growth of P. coccineus strain was good in PDA and YMA, but mycelial growth was low in MEA. Light irradiation during the incubation period affected the pigment formation and density of mycelia. Mushroom of P. coccineus strain was able to produce fruiting bodies in both bottle and bag cultivation, and oak sawdust was found to be the most suitable substrate for spawn culture and cultivation. In artificial cultivation using sawdust medium, fruiting body was grown to the extent that visual observation was possible from the 15th day, and it formed about 5 days fast in the treatment group with low relative humidity. From 40 to 45 days of mushroom development, mature fruiting bodies could be harvested, and the lower relative humidity of the growing room favored mushroom development and growth. Antioxidant activity of fruiting bodies harvested from artificial cultivation showed that ABTS radical scavenging activity of bottle-cultivated and wild fruit bodies were shown at 505㎍/㎖ and 515㎍/㎖, respectively. However, fruiting bodies harvested in bag cultivation were high at 910㎍/㎖. As a result of DPPH radical scavenging activity, all extracts were found to be inactive, exhibiting IC50 value of more than 2,000㎍/㎖ concentration. The ethyl acetate extract of mushrooms obtained from bottle cultivation showed the highest activity with 1,550㎍/㎖ IC50 value. Methanol extract of wild fruit bodies had the highest ABTS radical scavenging activity at the same concentration (10mg/㎖).

  • This study aimed to develop a new method of Lentinula edodes cultivation to reduce labor and waste disposal. To identify the optimum container for L. edodes cultivation, box, bottle, and bag containers were assessed for their effects on the cultural characteristics and mushroom yield. Among the three approaches, box-cultivation with 7 kg of substrate had the shortest browning period (42 days) and resulted in the highest mushroom yield (1,253 g). Contrastingly, bottle-cultivation was unsuitable for cultivation due to low production of the fruiting bodies and poor quality. Further studies on the box-cultivation approach will be required for commercial applications of L. edodes.

  • This study was carried out to test the recycling post-harvest medium from other mushroom bottle cultivation as a secondary medium of the oyster mushroom. In the post-harvest medium from winter mushroom and king oyster mushroom cultivation, oyster mushroom varieties in Chunchu-2ho and Manchuri fruit bodies yields compared with control group tend to be low. After recycling the post-harvest medium, it was replaced by basal medium up to 50%, of which the fruit bodies with stable yield increase from 10% to 30% were increased.

  • In this study, we attempted to find substitute materials, distillers residue of cassava, alfalfa pellet, and distillers residue of corn, for cotton seed meal in bottle cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus. In all treatments, the total carbon content was comparable with the exception of T4, and the total nitrogen content of T3 was similar to the control group, and C/N ratio of T4 was higher than other treatments. The diameter of plieus was the largest in T2, and the diameter of stipe was the largest in T2 and T4. And the length of stipe was largest in T1 and T2, and the most number of available stipes was in T1 and T3. The yield and bio-efficiency of fruit-body by residue of corn with soluble treatment(T3), were similar to the control of P. ostreatus. Therefore, it was suggested that residue of corn was substituted for cotton seed meal for cultivation of P. ostreatus.

  • The plastic culture bottle cap types and accumulated concentration of carbon dioxide, media humidity in the process of medium culture, chitin content and yield were observed in Pleurotus ostreatus 850ml bottle in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, Korea, during 2011. The concentration of carbon dioxide in the process of medium culture was the highest after 8~9 days cultivation irrespective of cap sizes and types. The accumulated concentration of carbon dioxide in size cap of 29~41mm was 6.5~4.0% in the upper-under perforation hole of cap and 9.0~6.5% in the under perforation hole of cap. The upper-under 23~33mm perforation hole and under 29mm perforation hole of caps in the 850ml bottle were best condition for cultivation of mushroom and increased fruit body, 15.8~21.2% and 20%, respectively. However, the upper-under & under 41mm perforation hole of fruit body were decreased 60.7% and 23.6%, respectively. Also it was weak, lose vitality and the lower of biologically activity substance because the upper medium humidity was too dry.
