Non-durable flame retardant finish, borax/boric acid mixed solution, was applied to cotton fabric with pad-dry method. The LOI(limited oxygen index) was measured as the measare of the flame retardant effect. The TGA was investigated to know the thermal behavior of the samples. In addition, the solubility of the solutions was investigated. The results were as follows: 1) There was a synergism of flame retardant effect in the borax/boric acid mixed solution treatment and the maximum synergism was shown around the ratio of 7 : 3 2) After the borax/boric acid solution treatment, the degradation temperature was lowered and degraded at the larger temp range with slower rate. The residual char length also increased. 3) The solubility of borax/boric acid become higher when the ratio of borax/boric acid became similar. Compositions from 80/20 to 40/60 borax/boric acid mixtures were solubilized well in room temperatuare or warmwater therefor there was no problem for home use.
In this study, the effect of chemical additives on the reduction of fine particles was identified in $9.2MW_e$ commercial scale circulating fluidized bed boiler firing bituminous coal. Futhermore, a simple and effective method of fine particle collection has been developed to collect the fine particles of the boiler during fossil fuel combustion. Chemical additives were used to reduce particles below 10 PM in the flue gas, and borax solution was used as a chemical additive. In order to identify the particle behavior of PM 10 or less among the collected fine particles, it was analyzed through particle size analyzer and SEM analysis. The Borax solution tends to absorb molten mineral in the flue gas and make fine particles grow. As a result, it was analyzed that particles smaller than $10{\mu}m$ were reduced by using borax solution.

Aqueous mixtures of hyaluronic acid and poly(vinyl alcohol) system and hydrogels thereof were introduced to obtain new bioartificial materials that have excellent mechanical properties, biocompatibility and enhanced rheological properties. The interactions between hyaluronic acid and poly(vinyl alcohol) and/or borax were investigated by rheological measurements. Preparation parameters of the aqueous mixtures were mixture composition, the degree of hydrolysis of poly(vinyl alcohol) and borax concentration. From the rheological behavior, it could be deduced that the key factor of the interaction between hyaluronic acid and poly(vinyl alcohol) was the hydrogen bonding between them and the effect was pronounced with borax. Enhanced viscosity was observed at the composition of $20wt\%$ of hyaluronic acid solution and $80wt\%$ of poly(vinyl alcohol) and borax solution. Rheological properties were influenced by the degree of hydrolysis of poly(vinyl alcohol) and borax concentration. As the degree of hydrolysis and borax concentration increased, rheological properties increased due to the increased hydrogen bonding and networking of hyaluronate aggregates. Physical hydrogels from hyaluronic acid and poly(vinyl alcohol) were prepared and the composition dependence of the gels was rheologically investigated as well.

The aim of the research is to evaluate the segregation resistivity of the mixture conditions by changing the PVA and borax solutions for thixotropic property on concrete mixture. Since the water addition caused by producing solutions of PVA and borax induces segregation of the concrete mixture, the unit water was reduced by replacing the water amount for PVA and borax solution. By replacing the water from PVA and borax solutions, the segregation was prevented with prefixed concrete mix design and thixotropic properties were also occurred.

Structural stability and shock absorption are important properties for corrugated board. In order to maintain structural stability, adhesive properties between top/bottom liners and corrugated medium are not only essential but also important for productivity and product quality. Borax has been an essential ingredient in corrugating adhesive solution. Borax increases viscosity, bonding between starchs and green adhesive bond. The objective of this research is to improving adhesive strength and viscosity stability by adding cross-linking agent instead of borax. Rheology and penetration of main starch gelatinization slurry were affected by borax addition level. Borax increased viscosity and decreased viscosity stability, while cross-linking additives increased viscosity stability and adhesive strength by anchoring effect.
Thermal reactive diffusion coating of vanadium carbide on DIN 2714 steel substrate was performed in a molten borax bath at $950-1050^{\circ}C$. The coating formed on the surface of the substrate had uniform thickness ($1-12{\mu}m$) all over the surface and the coating layer was hard (2430-2700 HV), dense, smooth and compact. The influence of the kinetics parameters, temperature and time, has been investigated. Vanadium carbide coating was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). The corrosion resistance of the coating was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization in 3.5% NaCl solution. The results obtained showed that decrease of coating microhardness following increasing time and temperature is owing to the coarsening of carbides and coating grain size.

Concrete with high thixotropy has a lower plastic viscosity when pour in, thus demonstrating fluidity, and After poured, the viscosity can be restored again to ensure stable progress without additional liquidity and material separation. Therefore, in this study, a basic study of thixotropy of concrete was proceeded through cross-linked bond of PVA and Borax. Therefore, it is judgment that the higher the concentration of boron solutions, the higher the strength of the interconnections between PVA and boron.

Adsorptive stripping voltammetric determination method of trace zirconium using oxine as a ligand was studied. Optimal conditions found to be $2.5{\times}10^{-3}M$ borax buffer solution(pH 8.5) containing oxine concentration of $4{\times}10^{-8}M$. Accumulation potential was -0.2V, accumulation time was 400sec and scan rate was 4mV/sec. Calibration plots for zirconium are linear over the range of $1{\sim}100{\mu}g/L$ in optimal condition.
Voltammetric deposition and differential pulse anodic stripping (DPASV) of Ge(IV)at a gold electrode was investigated. Germanium (IV) exhibits two stripping peaks by DPASV in sodium borate solution, the first peak at about -1.1v. vs SCE and the second one, in the range of -0.6 to -0.2v. vs SCE. Factors affecting the sensitivity and precision included the nature of working electrode, supporting electrolytes, deposition potential, deposition time, pH, pulse height, voltage scan rate. The relative standard deviation of the measurements of the peak currents, for 100ng/ml Ge(IV), was less than ${\pm}3%$. The detection limit of Ge(IV) was 0.01ng/ml. Percent recovery in the extraction procedure of Ge(IV) from matrices by benzene in c-HCl, followed by back extraction with saturated borax solution, ranged from 96 to 104%.
In this study, the combustion characteristics of Hinoki Cypress Louver were measured after performing pressure impregnation with aqueous solution of boric acid, borax, and ammonium phosphate. The characteristics measured include ignition time, critical heat flux, and mass loss rate by incident hear flux (25, 30 and $50kW/m^2$). The samples used for the test were $100{\times}100{\times}10mm$, and the 5 min variation for each incident heat flux was measured 3 times. The results show that the ignition time for incident heat flux of $25kW/m^2$ showed a delay effect of 17.4 to 21.3% except for Type C-H. There was no significant difference at 35 and $50kW/m^2$ in the average mass loss rate in Types A-H and D-H, which had lower rates than Type N-H, which was predicted to be higher than that of Type N-H ($10.7kW/m^2$) by 38.22 to 60.46%. It is thus expected that at the time of initial primary fire, there would be a delay effect against fire spread.
