NAND flash memory-based embedded systems are becoming increasingly common. These embedded systems have to provide a fast boot time. In this paper, we have designed and proposed a flash file system for embedded systems that require fast booting. By using a Flash Image Area, which keeps the latest flash memory information such as types and status of all blocks, the file system mounting time can be reduced significantly. We have shown by experiments that our file system outperforms YAFFS and RFFS.
Although the young spike of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) or wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is known as the most susceptible part to spring cold injury, the risk of cold injury is apt to be ignored in most breeding program due to the importance of early maturity. Based on these aspects, the types and inducing time, temperature conditions for induction and effects of cold injury on growth and yield in this study were investigated under greenhouse and field conditions through three years (1997-1999). In natural condition, low temperature around -2.4∼$-10.2^{\circ}C$ caused the death of plant. Several cold injury types such as partial degeneration of spike, partial discoloration of leaf, spike and awn, discoloration of culm and white spike were observed at low temperature around $-3.1^{\circ}C$. Low temperature around -2.4∼$-8.6^{\circ}C$ and 1.3-$7.6^{\circ}C$ caused degeneration and sterility of spike, respectively. Most materials were prepared to the spikelet foundation stage, spikelet differentiation stage, development stage of flower organ, booting stage and heading stage, which were known having risk for cold injury in field condition. Although most of the controlled stages were sensitive to the induced low temperature, booting stage was the most sensitive stage for cold injury. All of growth stages which were treated-heading stage, booting stage, development stage of flower organ, spikelet differentiation stage, spikelet foundation stage-were responded to low temperature treatment but the symptoms revealed were very specific according to the growth stages. Ears of plant in heading stage were discolored to white. Ears of plant in booting stage were degenerated in all or part of one. Plants in spikelet differentiation stage were sterile in all or part of one. When tried to detect the specific differences between normal and cold injured plants in appearance, spike length, distance between spike and flag leaf and the first internode length could be the critical points for occurrence of spike death caused by cold injury. In barley, the elongation of spike was stopped on 3.2cm after occurrence of spike degeneration, 4.7cm after occurrence of partial degeneration of spike, 5.0cm after occurrence of white spike. In wheat, it was stopped on 1.6cm after occurrence of stem death, 3.3cm after occurrence of spike degeneration, 8.3cm after occurrence of partial degeneration of spike, 8.1cm after occurrence of white spike, 7.5cm after partial discoloration of leaf and 9.3cm after partial discoloration of spike. The obtained results from low temperature treatment induced in growth chamber were similar to the field experiment, Beacuse the death of spikes was more when low temperature was treated two times than one times, the temperature should be upgrade to -3$^{\circ}C$ in order to get the same condition with field test.

Knowledge of the degree of yield reduction due to water stress at different crop growth stages in rice production is important for rational scheduling of irrigation during periods of insufficient water supply. Previous studies to determine the degree of yield reduction duo to water stress suffered from interruptions by rain during experiment. Also the findings did rot relate the degree of water stress to the soil water potential and water deficit status of rice plants. In this study, two years experiments were conducted using the high yielding rice varieties, an Indica x Japonica (Nampoong) and a Japonica variety(Choochung). These were grown in 1/200$^{\circ}$ plastic pots placed under a rainfall autosensing, sliding clear plastic roof facility to control rainfall interruptions. The results obtained were as follows. 1.The two varieties differed in the growth stage most sensitive to water stress as well as the degree of yield reductions. When rice plants were stressed to the leaf rolling score 4 and soil water potential of about - 20 bar at major crop growth stages which included heading, booting, non-effective tillering, panicle initiation and early tillering stages, the yield reductions in the Indica x Japonica variety were 58%, 34%, 27%, 22%, and 21%, respectively, whereas in the Japonica vairety they were 23%, 36%, 1%, 13% and 22%, respectively. This result show that the recommended drainage during non-effective tillering is valid only for the Japonica variety. Sufficient irrigation at booting, heading and early tillering stages are necessary for both varieties. 2.The two varieties showed visible wilting symptoms when the soil water potential dropped to about - 3.0 bar. The Japonica variety showed more leaf rolling than the Indica X Japonica. However, it had a higher retention of leaf water content and greater stomatal diffusive resistance. When the soil water potential dropped, the Japonica variety showed leaf rolling score (LRS) 1 at 0 soil-5. 0 bar and LRS 2 at 0 soil -6.0 bar while the Indica X Japonica showed LRS 1 at 0 soil - 5.5 bar and LRS 2at 0 Soil - 9.0 bar. The stomatal diffusive resistance was maximum at the second top leaf blade in both varieties at intermediate water stress of 0 soil - 4.5 bar. 3.The number of days that was required for the soil water potential to drop to-3. 0 bar and to - 20.0 bar after drainage of irrigation water from the 20cm deep silty clay loam soil in the pots were 6 and 13 days, respectively for booting stage, and 7 and 11 days, respectively for heading stage, 9 and 12 days, respectively for panicle initiation stage, and 12 and 19 days, respectively for early tillering stage. 4.Water stress during the early tillering stage recorded the longest delay in beading time, the largest reduction in panicle numbers and a substantial yield decrease of 20%. This calls for better water management to ensure the availability of water at this stage, particularly during drought periods. In addition, a reexamination of the conventional inter-drainage practice during the non-effective tillering stage is necessary for the high yielding Indica X Japonica varieties.
The FAT (File Allocation Table) compatible file system has been widely used in mobile devices and memory cards because of its data exchangeability among numerous platforms recognizing the FAT file system. By the way. modern embedded systems have tough demands for instant power failure recovery and superior performance for multimedia applications. The key issue is how to achieve the goals of superior write performance and instant booting capability while controlling compatibility issues. To achieve the goals while controlling compatibility issues. we devised a temporary meta-data journaling scheme for a FAT compatible file system. Benchmark results of the scheme implemented in a FAT compatible file system shows that it really improves write performance of the FAT file system by converting small random write for meta-data update to a large sequential write in journaling area. Also, it provides natural way to implement the instant booting capability. Nevertheless, the file system compatibility is temporarily compromised by the scheme because it stores updated meta-data in the temporary journaling area rather than to their original locations. However, the compatibility can be fully recovered at any time by journal-flushing that copies meta-data in journaling area to their original locations. Generally, the journal-flushing is done before un-mounting a memory card so that it can be used in other mobile devices which recognized FAT file system but not the temporary meta-data journaling scheme.

This experiment was carried out to provide some information on the change of dry matter productivity and feed value (forage quality) according to growth stages of late-maturing variety, Hwasan 101, Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) in Grassland and Forages Division, National Institute of Animal Science, RDA, Suwon from 2000 to 2002. In Suwon, booting, first heading, full heading and flowering stages of cv. Hwasan 101 were May 8, 18, 28 and June 3, respectively. Dry matter (DM) and total digestible nutrients (TDN) yields of Hwasan 101 were tendency to be increased by the progress of growth. DM yield in first heading stage increased 50% more than DM 4,818 kg/ha of booting stage, and also DM yield in full heading stage was increased by 26% of DM 7,244 kg/ha of first heading. Crude protein content was decreased gradually by the progress of growth, which were 18.32, 15.12, 12.58 and 12.36% in booting, first heading, full heading and flowing stage, respectively. Acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber contents was increased and in vitro dry matter digestibility decreased gradually with progress of growth, but there was no difference between full heading and flowering stages. Considering DM yield and feed value of Italian ryegrass, the suitable cutting times seems between full heading and flowering stage.
With fully harnessing the functions provided by Windows NT, we suggest the generating method of RPL profile and the RPL protocol for remote booting on DL-NCS(Network Computing System for Diskless client PCs). This system can offer clients, without having hard disk, boot remotely Window 9x stored in server's hard disk and can share peripheral devices and application programs in the server side. For booting Window 9x from DL-NCS, twenty-five clients' PCs were set for simultaneous on and finally the PCs were booted in similar time interval compared to that from a desktop PC having local disk. This system was also experimented to the application programs. And this system can yield excellent networking environments. In sum, with using this DL-NCS, we can reduce the installing costs of peripheral device, recycle the lower grade PCs such as 486SX/DX, and save the budgets for software purchase.
Experiments were conducted to investigate the locational and ovipositional preferences of the single and mixed populations of the brown planthopper(BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stal), and the whitebacked planthopper(WBPH),Sogatella furcifera (Hovath), with the different popula-tion densities at seeding, max-tillering, booting and heading stages of rice variety seonam by대. The WBPH showed a locational preference for the upper portion while the BPH was observed to stay generally on the lower portion regardless of rice growth stages, population density-levels and the single or the mixed populations of two species. At seeding, max-tillerinf, boo-tring and heading stage, the preference for the lower portion of the rice plants was found to be slighty reduced with the lapse of time, respectively, from the single or the mixed popula-tions of both the species. Ovipositional lication of both the species was found not to be affected by the different population densities at rice growth stage. Although the BPH prefered a ovi-positional location for the lower portion at seeding, booting and heading stages, its preference-was somewhat reduced with the developmental stages of rice plants, whereas the WBPH showed a ovipositional preference for lower portion at seeding stages, but prefered the same tendency of ovipositional preference for the upper and the lower portion, The location and ovipositional preferences were likely to be affected by the competition between species with the mixed populations rather than single.

Event Data Recorder(Car Black-Box) with WiFi dongle have been released, and the platform of the majority is the Linux platform. This is because the platform development is possible in little investment cost by reducing the source licensing costs by taking advantage of the open source. But utilizing Linux platform has the limitations of boot-up time and consuming processing power due to the limitation of battery capacity, to be cost-competitive to minimize the use of memory. In this paper, the real-time operating system(RTOS) is utilized to optimize these portions. MP4 encoder and Muxer are developed to be about ten seconds boot up and minimized memory. It has the advantages of operating at lower power consumption than the Linux utilizing WiFi dongle. Utilizing a WiFi dongle is to provide a progressive download feature on smart phones to lower product prices. But RTOS has the weakness in WiFi. Porting TCP /IP, Web and DHCP server and combination with the USB OTG Host interface by implementing the protocol stack are developed for WiFi. And also SPI NOR flash memory is utilized for faster boot time and cost reductions, low processing power to be consume. As the results, the developed proved the 10 seconds booting time, 24 frame rate/sec. and 10% lower power consumption.

The Competitiveness of Hybrid hard disk drive(H-HDD) for solid state disk(SSD) comes from both lower power consumption and higher reading speed. This paper suggests a prefetching scheme that can improve the performance of Non-Volatile cache(NVCache) memory installed on the H-HDD through prefetching disk blocks as well as files to the NVCache. The proposed scheme makes the highly used data such as booting files copy to the NVCache as an unit of file and the frequently accessed blocks copy to the NVCache. This prefetching is done on the idle time of disk queue and the priorities of prefetched target blocks are based on both time and spatial locality of blocks. Experiments results show that the suggested method can improve response time of H-HDD and also lower the power consumption.
Attempts to search infection period, infection speed in the tissue of neck blast of rice plant, location of inoculum source and effects of several conditions about the leaf sheath of rice plants for neck blast incidence have been made. 1. The most infectious period for neck blast incidence was the booting stage just before heading date, and most of necks have been infected during the booting stage and on heading date. But $Indica{\times}Japonica$ hybrid varieties had shown always high possibility for infection after booting stage. 2. Incubation period for neck blast of rice plants under natural conditions had rather a long period ranging from 10 to 22 days. Under artificial inoculation condition incubation period in the young panicle was shorter than in the old panicle. Panicles that emerged from the sheath of flag leaf had long incubation period, with a low infection rate and they also shown slow infection speed in the tissue. 3. Considering the incubation period of neck blast of rice plant, we assumed that the most effective application periods of chemicals are 5-10 days for immediate effective chemicals and 10-15 days for slow effective chemicals before heading. 4. Infiltration of conidia into the leaf sheath of rice plant carried out by saturation effect with water through the suture of the upper three leaves. The number of conidia observed in the leaf sheath during the booting stage were higher than those in the leaf sheath during other stages. Ligule had protected to infiltrate of conidia into the leaf sheath. 5. When conidia were infiltrated into the leaf sheath, the highest number of attached conidia was observed on the panicle base and panicle axis with hairs and degenerated panicle, which seemed to promote the infection of neck blast. 6. The lowest spore concentration for neck blast incidence was variable with rice varietal groups. $Indica{\times}Japonica$ hybrid varieties were infected easily compared to the Japonica type varieties, especially. The number of spores for neck blast incidence in $Indica{\times}Japonica$ hybrid varieties was less than 100 and disease index was higher also in $Indica{\times}Japonica$ hybrid than in Japonica type varieties. 7. Nitrogen content and silicate content were related with blast incidence in necks of rice plants in the different growing stage changed during growing period. Nitrogen content increased from booting stage to heading date and then decreased gradually as time passes. Silicate content increased from booting stage after heading with time. Change of these content promoted to increase neck blast infection. 8. Conidia moved to rice plant by ascending and desending dispersal and then attached on the rice plant. Conidia transfered horizontally was found very negligible. So we presumed that infection rate of neck blast was very low after emergence of panicle base from the leaf sheath. Also ascending air current by temperature difference between upper and lower side of rice plant seemed to increase the liberation of spores. 9. Conidial number of the blast fungus collected just before and after heading date was closely related with neck blast incidence. Lesions on three leaves from the top were closely related with neck blast incidence, because they had high potential for conidia formation of rice blast fungus and they were direct inoculum sources for neck blast. 10. The condition inside the leaf sheath was very favorable for the incidence of neck blast and the neck blast incidence in the leaf sheath increased as the level of fertilizer applied increased. Therefore, the infection rate of neck blast on the all panicle parts such as panicle base, panicle branches, spikelets, nodes, and internodes inside the leaf sheath didn't show differences due to varietal resistance or fertilizers applied. 11. Except for others among dominant species of fungi in the leaf sheath, only Gerlachia oryzae appeared to promote incidence of neck blast. It was assumed that days for heading of varieties were related with neck blast incidence.
