  • This paper proposes a new soft-switched Sepic converter. It has low switching losses and low conduction losses due to its auxiliary communicated circuit and synchronous rectifier operation, respectively. Because of its positive and buck/boost-like DC voltage transfer function (M=D/(1-D)), the proposed converter is desirable for use in distributed power systems. The proposed converter has versions both with and without a transformer. The paper also suggests some design guidelines in terms of the power circuit and the control loop for the proposed converter.

  • A DC-DC converter is being widely used for various household appliances and for industry applications. The DC-CC converter is powered from single battery, and the voltage is varied according to the purpose. In the vehicle, various accessories whose electric power is different are being un4 Thus, plural number of DC-DC converter should be provided, so these situations bring complicated circuits, and accordingly, higher cost. Under such backgrounds, in this paper, we propose a novel buck-boost chopper circuit with simply configuration which can supply to two or more different output loads. The propose chewer circuit can control output voltages by controlling duty ratio by using typically two switching devices, which is composed by single boost-switch and single buck-switch. The output voltage can be controlled widely. A few modified circuits developed from the fundamental circuit are represented including the general multi-load circuit. And all this merits and appropriateness was proved by computer simulation and experience.

  • The operational characteristics of a resonant DC/DC converter, which can harvest thermoelectric energy, is analyzed, depending on the relative magnitudes of the input voltage and the load voltage. The resonant converter consists of LC resonant circuit connected to DC input source and a resonant pulse converter in which the input energy is transferred to the load as the resonant capacitor voltage is peak. The resonant capacitor doubles the input voltage by the resonance phenomenon. By the relative magnitude between the input voltage and the output voltage, the resonant DC/DC converter operates in three different modes. For boost mode, the peak voltage of the resonant capacitor is smaller than the load voltage. For hybrid mode, the peak voltage of the resonant capacitor is bigger than the load voltage and every switching period has both the boost mode and the direct mode. For the direct mode, the input voltage is bigger than the load voltage and the converter transfers directly the input energy to the load without the switching operation. Operation principles and the feasibility of the converter for the thermoelectric energy harvesting are verified with PSPICE simulation and experiment.

  • In this paper, an electric vehicle drives with efficient control and low cost hardware using four quadrant DC converter with Permanent Magnet Direct Current (PMDC) motor fed by DC boost converter is presented. The main idea of this work is to improve the energy efficiency of the conversion chain of an electric vehicle by inserting a boost converter between the battery and the four quadrant-DC motor chopper assembly. Consequently, this method makes it possible to maintain the amplification gain of the 4 quadrant chopper constant regardless of the battery voltage drop and even in the presence of a fault in the battery. One of the most important control problems is control under heavy uncertainty conditions. The higher order sliding mode control technique is introduced for the adjustment of DC bus voltage and mechanical motor speed. To implement the proposed approach in the automotive field, experimental tests were carried out. The performances obtained show the usefulness of this system for a better energy management of an electric vehicle and an ideal control under different operating conditions and constraints, mostly at nominal operation, in the presence of a load torque, when reversing the direction of rotation of the motor speed and even in case of battery chamber failure. The whole system has been tested experimentally and its performance has been analyzed.

  • A new isolated boost dc to dc convertor suitable for a low input voltage application is proposed. The proposed convertor features the low switch current stresses, the wide input voltage range operation, and the inherent inrush current protection characteristics, essential to design a low to high voltage conversion circuit. A comparative analysis and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed convertor.

  • Switching power supply systems are widely used in many industrial fields. Power factor correction (PFC) circuits have a tendency to be applied in new power supply designs. The input active power factor correction (APFC) circuits can be implemented in either the two-stage approach or the single-stage approach. The two-stage approach can be classified into boost type PFC circuit and dc/dc converter. The power factor correction circuit with a boost converter used as an input power source is studied in this paper. In a boost power factor correction circuit there are two feedback control loops, which are a current feedback loop and a voltage feedback loop. In this paper, the regulation performance of output voltage and compensator to improve the transient response presented at the continuous conduction mode (CCM) of the boost PFC circuit is analyzed. The validity of designed boost PFC circuit is confirmed by MATLAB simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper proposes a real-time estimation of the boost inductance in a single-phase AC/DC parallel PWM converter for high-speed EMU. The estimation procedure of the boost inductance is only based on the variation of input current and the input AC voltage measurement. The estimated boost inductance is optimized by the least square method. This estimation technique can improve the performance of current controller and reduce the harmonics of the input current in the feed-forward controller. The validity of proposed technique is verified through the MATLAB SIMULINK simulation results.

  • In this paper, the voltage tracking control of a conventional DC-DC boost converter affected by unknown, time-varying circuit parameter perturbations is investigated. Based on the fundamental property of incremental passivity, a passivity based control law is designed. Then, to obtain a better disturbance rejection property, two generalized proportional integral (GPI) observers are employed to estimate the time-varying uncertainties in the output voltage and inductor current channels, and the estimated values are applied as feedforward compensation. Moreover, the global trajectory tracking performance of a system with disturbances is ensured under the composite controller. Finally, simulation and experiment studies are provided to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed controller delivers a promising disturbance rejection capability as well as a good nominal tracking performance.

  • A novel passive boost power converter forsingle-phaseswitched reluctance motor is presented. A simple passive circuit is proposed comprisingthree diodes and one capacitor. The passive circuitis added in the front-end of a conventional asymmetric converter to obtain high negative bias. Based on this passive network, the terminal voltage of the converter side is a general DC-link voltage level in parallel mode up to a double DC-link voltage level in series mode. Thus,it can suppress the negative torque generation from the tail current and improve the output power. The results of the comparative simulation and experiments forthe conventional and proposed converter verify the performance of the proposed converter.
