A Study on Change of the Apartment Storage Space (아파트 수납공간의 양적변화에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out change of the apartments stouge space in Seoul area from 1971 to 1988. It also attempts to compare the storage space in the apartment with the optimum storage space which is suggested by precedent studies on the storage space. Content analysis methods were used to analyze 961 apartment floor plan from the booklet of 'Apartment Information'. The major findings were as follows : 1) According to the precedent studies, optimum storage spaces are 3.86∼7.72㎡ for 66.07∼115.61㎡ house, and 14.23∼20.31㎡ for 115.62∼165.15㎡ house. 2) It was found out that the storage spaces of the apartments were increased until 1977∼80 and decreased after 1980. 3) Comparing the storge space with the optimum standard, most of the apartments have not enough storage space. It offers only 50% of optimum storage space. 4) The percentage of installation of storage space in bedrooms were quite low in general. Specially, bedrooms in small apartment under 66.6㎡ and most master bedrooms didn't storage spaces. 5) The sige of the apartment storage space were variant according to the builder. Only one builder from 8 offered the spaces close to the optimum standrd, and others didn't seem much care for the storage space.

Effects of a Newborn Care Education Program on Newborn Care Confidence and Behavioral Accuracy of Primiparas in a Postpartum Care Center (신생아 돌보기 교육프로그램이 산후조리원 이용 초산모의 양육자신감과 양육행위 정확도에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The study aimed to identify the effects of a newborn care education program on newborn care confidence and behavioral accuracy of primiparas in a postpartum care center. Method: This was a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design. Subjects were 29 primiparas selected from a postpartum care center in D and P hospitals in Ulsan. The intervention was a newborn care education program which was composed of education with a booklet, demonstration, watching a video, and verbal encouragement. The outcome variables were newborn care confidence and behavioral accuracy. Data was collected from Feb. 1 to Mar 22 in 2005 with self-administered questionnaires and observation by researchers. Data was analyzed using the $X^2-test$, Fisher's exact test, t-test and ANCOVA. Result: The experimental group showed significantly higher score changes between the pre-test and post-test in confidence and behavioral accuracy than the control group. Conclusion: The newborn care education program showed positive effects on newborn care confidence and behavioral accuracy of primiparas in a postpartum care center. Therefore, we recommend that this program should be applied in postpartum care centers.

The Effects of Individualized Cardiac Rehabilitation Education for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Patients (개별 심장재활교육이 경피적 관상동맥 중재술(PCI) 환자의 지식과 불안에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was done to evaluate the effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation education individualized to PCI patients in order to improve their knowledge of these diseases and to lessen their anxiety. Method: A Quasi experimental design with non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design was used. The experimental group had the PCI operation for ischemic heart disease and individualized cardiac rehabilitation education and counseling twice for 25 minutes each time using an educational booklet developed by the authors. The effects of the education were analyzed using a knowledge assessment tool, state anxiety inventory and anxiety visual analogue scale. Results: The experimental group who received the individualized cardiac rehabilitation education showed a high level of knowledge about diseases compared to the control group and particularly showed a significant difference in knowledge about the drugs used for treatment. However, no significant difference was observed between the two groups in the level of state anxiety and anxiety visual analogue scale. Conclusion: Individualized cardiac rehabilitation education did not reduce anxiety but it was effective in enhancing the participants' knowledge about the diseases. Thus, it can be utilized effectively in addressing risk factors in ischemic heart diseases by providing education individualized according to patients' demands and knowledge levels.

An Educational Program Development for the Children's Guardian with Cochlear Implants (인공와우이식 환아의 보호자를 위한 교육프로그램 개발)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop an educational program for the children's guardian with cochlear implants in order to provide knowledge and information about cochlear implants. Methods: The educational program was developed based on a literature review, potentially relevant website analysis, and validation by an expert group. Two out of twenty-two educational items under four domains that had item-level content validity index (CVI) greater than 0.8 by the ten experts were finally selected and used. After the children's guardian participated in this educational activity through a specially designed booklet and DVD, the effectiveness of the program was evaluated. Results: A total of 8 children's guardian participated in the program. Their knowledge levels significantly increased after participating the program (mean $15.0{\pm}3.02$ vs. $19.0{\pm}0.93$, Z= 2.371, p=.018). Satisfaction levels with the program was high, $4.1{\pm}0.87$ out of 5. Conclusion: This newly developed educational program for the children's guardian with cochlear implants is proved to be effective and can be used in nursing practice. In addition, the participants seemed to be satisfied with the program. Furthermore, this program may also improve the effects of adult with cochlear implants.

The Effect of Discharge Education Program on Compliance with Sick-Role Behavior in Cerebrovascular Surgery Patients (퇴원교육 프로그램이 뇌혈관 수술환자의 역할행위 이행에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the discharge education program on compliance with the sick role behavior for patients having undergone cerebrovascular surgery. Method: Research was done using a posttest only design. The subjects were 60 patients who were admitted to the neurosurgery unit at C.N.U. Hospital in G. City and were divided into the experimental and control groups. The discharge education program were intervened two times in the experimental group by the researcher; the first one was at the time of discharge using a booklet about knowledge related to disease and compliance, and the other one was a telephone education session after a week from discharge. Data were collected two times by interview and telephone using questionnaires from January 19, to June 10, 2000. The first one was at hospital before discharge, and the other one was one month later from discharge. Data were analysed by $\chi^{2}$, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation. Results: The experimental group showed a higher score of compliance(t=2.772, p=.008) than those of the control group, but knowledge about CVD was not significant between the two groups(p>.05). Conclusion: The discharge education program was effective on the compliance of the patients having undergone cerebrovascular surgery.

Effects of a Symptom Focused Self-Management Program on Symptom and Functional status, Health Perception, and Quality of Life of Patients with Chronic Heart Failure (인지적 의사결정에 근거한 증상별 자기관리프로그램이 만성 심부전 환자의 신체·기능상태, 건강지식 및 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effects of a self-management program on symptom and functional status, health perception, and quality of life(QOL) of patients with CHF. Methods: Patients with CHF as defined through clinical judgment using the Framingham criteria and EF<50% were enrolled in the study (experimental: 21, control: 20). The symptom focused self-management program consisted of coping behaviors for symptoms including dyspnea, chest discomfort/pain, dizziness, ankle edema, and basic self-management including medications, diets, activity, lifestyle changes. Experimental group received an educational booklet after survey, and periodic telephone follow-up by a trained nurse. Data were collected the 3rd day after admission and at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after discharge using questionnaires. Results: Significant differences were found in the presence of symptoms, health perception, and QOL between groups during follow-up. Although no significant difference was found in functional status, the experimental group reported better functional status than the control group. Conclusion: By facilitating self-management of CHF using tailored interventions including education programs and telephone monitoring, it is expected that patients will be able to monitor their symptoms routinely, adhere to therapeutic regimen, and have a better QOL.

The Effects of Smartphone Application to Educate Patient on Patient Safety in Hospitalized Surgical Patients (위해사건 예방을 위한 수술 환자 교육용 스마트폰 애플리케이션의 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate a patient safety application in the prevention of adverse event among surgical patients. Seventy three surgical patients with thirty six of them using the patient safety application and the rest (N=37) were provided educational booklet. Further, the instrument would measure patients' right to know, knowledge about patient safety, and attitude toward patient safety. Methods: The patient safety application was developed by the ADDIE along with input from experts, patients and an extensive literature review. Data were collected from 7 September through 20 October 2015. Results: The experimental group had significantly higher scores in patients' right to know (t=2.01, p=.024), knowledge on patient safety (t=3.80, p<.001) and attitude toward patient safety (t=2.74, p=.004) than those of the control group. Conclusion: The patient safety application developed using Smartphone could be an effective tool enhancing patient involvement in preventing adverse events that may occur to patients. Further studies are recommended with diverse subjects with varying medical conditions.

The Effects of Comprehensive Education Program on Anxiety, Uncertainty and Athletic Performance of Patients undergo Spinal Nerve Block (척추 신경차단술 환자를 위한 포괄적 교육 프로그램이 불안, 불확실성 및 운동수행에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: Purpose of the study was to identify the effect of the Comprehensive Education Program (CEP) on intra-procedure anxiety, post-procedure uncertainty and athletic performance of back strengthening of patients undergo spinal nerve block (SNB). Methods: The participants (experimental group=33, control group=33) were recruited from a university hospital in G metropolitan city. Data were collected from July to November 2015. The experimental group was individually provided with a booklet/motion picture about the SNB and back strengthening exercise training before the SNB. This group also received a leaflet about back strengthening exercise post SNB. The Anxiety-Visual Analog Scale (A-VAS), the Mishel adapted uncertainty scale and newly created knowledge scale/athletic performance checklist were utilized as our study tools. Results: Intra-procedure anxiety score (F=25.70, p<.001), post-procedure uncertainty score (F=82.56, p<.001), post-procedure knowledge score (F=14.63, p<.001) and athletic performance rate of back strengthening (p=.003) of the experimental group showed statistically significant differences in comparison with the control group. Conclusion: This CEP is a cost and time-effective intervention for patients who undergo spinal injections, so it should be actively utilized as an educational management strategy in outpatient.

Effect of Providing Information on Anxiety, Knowledge and Compliance of Patients with a Permanent Pacemaker (정보제공이 영구형 심박조율기 이식환자의 불안, 지식 및 치료지시이행에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was undertaken to identify the effect of providing information on anxiety, knowledge and compliance in permanent pacemaker patients. Method: A quasi experimental design with non-equivalent control group and non-synchronized design was used. The subjects of this study were 50 patients who had received permanent pacemaker implantation at a university hospital in Seoul. They were divided into an experimental group of 22 patients who received education and a control group of 28 patients. The education was composed of group education(twice) and individualized reinforcement education(once) using an education booklet. Results: Anxiety decreased in the experimental group. Knowledge significantly increased in the experimental group compared to that in the control group. Compliance significantly increased in the experimental group. Conclusion: It can be concluded that providing information is effective for reducing anxiety, increasing knowledge and improving compliance of the permanent pacemaker patients.

Effects of Telephone Consulting Program on Self-efficacy and Self-care in NIDDM Patients (전화상담 프로그램이 당뇨병환자의 자기효능과 자가간호에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was intended to examine the effects of a telephone consulting program on self-efficacy and self-care in NIDDM patients. Method: Sixty-eight NIDDM patients participated. Thirty-six were assigned to the experimental group and received the telephone consulting program from one to two times per week for 4 weeks. This program was undertaken by base on small booklet relating to diabetic disease summary, diet, drug, exercise, foot management, prevention and treatment of complications, and insulin injection methods. Result: 1. Hypothesis 1 that "the experimental group who receives the telephone consulting program will have higher self-efficacy score than the control group who does not have the telephone consulting" was supported (t=5.12, p= .000). 2. Hypothesis 2 that "the experimental group who receives the telephone consulting program will have higher self-care score than the control group who does not have the telephone consulting" was supported(t=5.29, p= .000). Conclusion: The telephone consulting program improved self-efficacy and self-care in NIDDM patients. Accordingly, this program can be adopted as an effective nursing intervention in the care of the diabetic patients.
