The result from analysis of book review showed that the outstanding book reviews should be more produced based on the desirable standard of book review and the evaluative statements should be developed more than the descriptive statements. Depending on the mediums the contents of the book review were different by the book reviewers' occupations, so the book reviewers should develop their professional knowledges in literature and art. Because the longer book review made the outstanding book review with the rightness of the desirable standard of book review, the certain quantity of book review should be needed and the role of librarians as the book reviewers should be further extended.

  • The purpose of this research is to document the current state of 'One Book, One City' community reading campaign (Hereafter called 'One Book' reading campaign), launched in 2003 in Korea, and the characteristics of the selected books. For this research, the homepages, news and reports of a total of 1,170 public libraries and their local government, and several major institutions and organizations related to reading and culture were analyzed with the research method of content analysis and literature review. Also, online catalogs of the National Library of Korea and the National Library for Children and Young Adults were examined to identify the characteristics of 729 titles and 1,179 volumes of books selected in 57 'One Book' programs, as of 2021. The analysis of 57 'One Book' programs and those selected books shows the selection of more than one books in different age groups in more and more 'One Book' programs, lack of consistency in themes of those selected books, and preference for young adult books, new publications and bestselling novels. This trend has weakened individual 'One Book' programs' concentration on one book or one subject, but helped invite a diverse group of people with various interests. More in-depth analysis and explanation of the process of book selection and its appropriateness with the stated goals of 'One Book' programs are needed.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the transition of the concept and meaning of "bulgogi". "Bulgogi" is a representative Korean food and is also a global menu item. The first dictionary that presented the word "bulgogi" was the Keunsajeon (big dictionary). The results of an analysis of 17 dictionaries published in the last 60 years showed the immutable definition of "neobiani" as seasoned and broiled beef. In contrast, "bulgogi" has been termed differently, from "simply grilled meat of an animal" to the same meaning as that of "neobiani". Furthermore, to define the difference between common grilled meat in modern versus present time, a review of 26 cookery books from Sieuijeanseo, written in late 1800, to The Taste of Korea, written in 1987, were selected and examined. To date, the first appearance of the word "bulgogi" mentioned in a cook book was in Practice in Higher Cuisine, which was written by Shin- young Bang in 1958. The book states that "bulgogi" is the second name or the vulgar designation of "neobiani".
