유기성폐기물이 느티나무 재배지 토양의 화학성 및 생물에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Organic Waste Application on Soil Chemical Properties and Organisms under Zelkova serrata Cultivation)

  • 식품생산과정에서 발생하는 유기성폐기물인 골분, 유박, 굴 패화석을 토양에 투입한 결과 일부 처리구에서 토양생물과 화학성이 영향을 받았다. 골분은 토양의 질산태질소를 일시적으로 증가시켰고, 패화석은 pH를 증가시켰다. 골분은 느티나무 생장을 증진시키는 효과가 있었기 때문에 이차적으로 토양생태계에 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 미생물 PLFA는 패화석에 의해 증가하였으며 환경스트레스를 나타내는 지표도 낮은 경향이 있었다. 이것은 패화석이 양분 증가보다는 pH 증가를 통해 미생물의 서식환경을 개선하는 효과가 있다는 것을 보여준다. 토양미소동물 중에는 세균섭식성 선충만이 유박과 골분 처리구에서 증가하였다. 이들 밀도와 세균 PLFA 간에 상관관계는 없었다. 다만 식물생장과 식물섭식성선충의 유의적 상관관계는 유기물투입이 식물을 통해 이차적으로 토양생태계에 영향을 줄 수 있다는 것을 부분적으로 보여준다. 따라서 유기성폐기물 처리는 토양화학성 변화를 통해 일차적으로 미생물 군집에 영향을 주지만, 미생물을 섭식하는 생물군에게 상향식의 양적인 연쇄반응을 일으키지 않을 수 있다는 것을 시사한다.

혼합발효 유기질비료의 발효과정 중 이화학성 및 미생물밀도 변화 (Changes in Physicochemical Properties and Microbial Population during Fermenting Process of Organic Fertilizer)

  • 유기재배를 위한 화학비료 대체 혼합발효 유기질비료를 개발하기 위하여 깻묵, 어박, 쌀겨, 골분 등의 유기질 자재와 일라이트, 패화석 등을 배합하여 제조하였으며 70일간의 제조과정 중 이화학적 특성 및 미생물 밀도 변화를 조사하였다. 유기질비료의 주요 성분인 깻묵과 쌀겨는 각각 7.6%와 2.6%의 질소와 3.6%와 4.6%의 인산, 1.4%와 2.2%의 칼륨을 함유하였다. 골분은 29.2%의 인산을 함유하였으며 일라이트의 칼륨 농도는 3.8%이였다. 유기질비료의 온도는 혼합 2일후 $50^{\circ}C$ 이상으로 상승하였으며 발효 40일 경과 후 상온과 비슷한 온도로 내려갔다. 발효 초기 수분 함량은 36.3%였으며 1개월 후 16.0%로 감소하였고 그 후 변화가 거의 없었다. 발효 초기에 유기물 함량에 비해 질소의 손실이 커서 탄질비가 증가하였다가 발효 10일 경과 후 서서히 감소하였다. 암모니아태 질소 함량은 혼합 시 $1,504mg\;kg^{-1}$이었으며 10일 후 최고 농도인 $5,530mg\;kg^{-1}$까지 증가하였다가 서서히 감소하였다. 그 반면에 질산태질소 함량은 발효 전 기간 동안 저농도로 유지되었는데 이러한 경향은 높은 pH와 관련이 있다고 판단되었다. 약 2개월간의 발효 후 유기질비료의 질소, 인산, 칼리 및 유기물 함량은 각각 2.7%, 2.8%, 1.8% 및 35.9%이었다. 발효과정 중 유기질비료내 생존하는 호기성세균, Bacillus sp. 및 방선균의 총균수는 각각 $12.5{\times}10^{10}$, $45.5{\times}10^5$$13.6{\times}10^5cfu\;g^{-1}$이었다. Pseudomoaas sp.는 발효초기에 $71.9{\times}10^7cfu\;g^{-1}$이었으나 발효 20일 후에는 온도 상승으로 급격히 감소하여 거의 나타나지 않았다. 균류 중 효모는 발효 초기에 많이 검출되었으며 사상균수은 발효 후기에 많았다.

Effects of Adding Super Dose Phytase to the Phosphorus-deficient Diets of Young Pigs on Growth Performance, Bone Quality, Minerals and Amino Acids Digestibilities

  • Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of feeding an Escherichia coli (E. coli) derived phytase to pigs fed P deficient, corn-soybean meal diets. In Exp. 1, one hundred and twenty crossbred piglets ($9.53{\pm}0.84$ kg) were allocated to one of five treatments which consisted of four low P diets (0.61% Ca, 0.46% total P and 0.24% non-phytate P) supplemented with 0, 500, 1,000, or 20,000 FTU/kg E. coli phytase as well as a positive control formulated to be adequate in all nutrients (0.77% Ca, 0.62% total P and 0.42% non-phytate P). The treatments were applied to six pens with four pigs per pen for 28 days. In Exp. 2, ten crossbred pigs ($19.66{\pm}1.16$ kg) fitted with ileal T-cannula were used in a nutrient balance study. The pigs were assigned to treatments similar to those used in Exp. 1 in a doubly replicated $5{\pm}4$ incomplete Latin square design (5 diets with 4 periods). Each period consisted of a 5-d adjustment period followed by a 3-d total collection of feces and urine and then a 2-d collection of ileal digesta. Supplementation with phytase linearly increased (p<0.05) weight gain, feed intake, feed efficiency, bone breaking strength and fat-free dry and ash bone weight. There were linear increases (p<0.01) in the apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of DM, GE, CP, Ca, total P, inositol hexaphosphate ($IP_6$) and some AA with increasing dose of E. coli phytase. Pigs fed 20,000 FTU/kg had a greater (p<0.05) AID of IP6 (80% vs 59% or 64%, respectively) than pigs fed diets with 500 or 1,000 FTU/kg phytase. There were linear increases (p<0.05) in the total tract digestibility of Ca, total P, Na, K, Mg, and Zn as well as in the retention of Mg and Zn with increased phytase dose. The retention and utilization of Cu, and the total tract digestibility of CP and Cu quadratic increased (p<0.05) with increased phytase dose. In conclusion, supplementation of 500 FTU of phytase/kg and above effectively hydrolyzed phytate in low-P corn-soybean diets for pigs. In addition, a super dose of phytase (20,000 FTU/kg) hydrolyzed most of the IP6 and consequently further improved mineral use, protein utilization and performance.

Growth Performance, Carcass and Meat Characteristics of Black Goat Kids Fed Sesame Hulls and Prosopis juliflora Pods

  • Finding alternative feeds, such as sesame hulls and Prosopis juliflora species can attenuate difficulties of feed shortage and reduce the cost of animal feed in arid and semi-arid countries. Thirty-two Black male kids with similar initial weights (BW = $16.7{\pm}0.80\;kg$) and $120{\pm}5\;d$ of age, were used to evaluate the effect of replacing barley grains and soybean meal with Prosopis juliflora pods (PJP) and sesame hulls (SH) on growth performance, digestibility and carcass and meat characteristics. Kids were equally divided into four dietary treatment groups for an 84-d fattening period. Treatment diets had similar crude protein (CP) and metabolizable energy (ME). The treatment groups were: (T1) no PJP nor SH, (T2) 10% PJP and 20% SH, (T3) 15% PJP and 15% SH, and (T4) 20% PJP and 10% SH. A tendency was detected (p<0.08) for dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), organic matter (OM) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) intakes that were greater for T2 than T3 and T4 while T1 was not different from all other treatment groups. Ether extract (EE) intake was the greatest (p<0.05) for T2 and the lowest for T1. Acid detergent fiber (ADF) intake was greater (p<0.05) for T2 than T1 while T3 and T4 were intermediate. Final live weight, average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were comparable among different treatment groups. Digestibility of DM, OM, CP, NDF and ADF were similar among all treatment groups, however, EE digestibility was the lowest (p<0.05) for T1 when compared to other treatments. In addition, nitrogen intake, nitrogen in urine and retained and retention percentages were similar among all treatment groups. However, N loss in feces was higher (p<0.05) for T2 than T3 and T4 while T1 was intermediate. No differences were observed among treatment groups with respect to fasting live weight, hot and cold carcass weights, dressing-out percentages, mesenteric fat, visceral organs, carcass cuts percentages and carcass linear dimensions. No differences were also observed for dissected loin, leg, rack and shoulder tissues except in the total bone % for loin cuts and in the meat to bone ratio for rack cuts. T3 has the greatest total bone % and the lowest meat to bone ratio when compared to all other treatment groups. No differences were observed between treatment groups in all quality characteristics of the longissimus muscle. The present study demonstrates the potential of using PJP and SH for growing kids without adverse effects on growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality.

금연.금주 남자대학생의 골밀도, 영양소 섭취, 혈액 성상 및 식습관 (Bone Density, Nutrient Intake, Blood Composition and Food Habits in Non-Smoking and Non-Alcohol Drinking Male University Students)

  • This study was conducted in order to investigate and compare anthropometric measurements, bone density, nutrient intake, blood composition and food habits between non-smoking, non-alcohol drinking and smoking, alcohol drinking male university students in Seoul, South Korea. The data for food habits and health-related behaviors were obtained by selfadministered questionnaires. The BQIs of the subjects were measured by Quantitative Ultrasound (QUS). The subjects were divided into two groups: NSND (non-smoking and non-alcohol drinking, n=62) group and General (smoking and alcohol drinking, n=160) group. The results were analyzed using the SPSS program and were as follows: The average heights, weights, and BMIs of the two groups were 173.3 cm, 66.5 kg and 22.1 and 173.4 cm, 68.7 kg and 22.9, respectively. There were no differences between the groups regarding height, weight or BMI. SBP and DBP, however, were significantly higher in the general group than in the NSND group (p<0.01). The BQIs, Z-scores and T-scores of the two groups were 99.83, -0.23, and -0.31 and 98.24, -0.27 and -0.39, respectively, producing no significant differences between the two groups. The percentages for normal bone status, osteopenia and osteoporosis were 83.88%, 16.12% and 0.0% and 74.37%, 25.62% and 0.01%, respectively. Mean intakes of animal protein (p<0.05), animal fat (p<0.05), fiber (p<0.05), animal Ca(p<0.05), animal Fe (p<0.001), Zn(p<0.05), vitamin B1 (p<0.05) and niacin (p<0.05) were significantly different between the two groups, and mean serum levels of SGOT (p<0.01), SGPT (p<0.001), ${\gamma}$-GTP (p<0.001), triglycerides (p<0.01), total cholesterol (p<0.05) and hematocrit (p<0.05) were also significantly different between the two groups. Overall, there were no differences in meal regularity, frequency of snacking, reasons for overeating, exercise and defecation between the groups. However, favorite foods (p<0.05) and night-time meals (p<0.05) were significantly different. In conclusion, the health status of the NSND group was superior compared to the general group. Thus, students who smoke and alcohol drink should receive a practical and systematically-organized education regarding the increased health benefits of quitting smoking and alcohol drinking.

The Effect of Protein Source and Formaldehyde Treatment on Growth and Carcass Composition of Awassi Lambs

  • A trial with twenty-four newly weaned Awassi lambs (initial body weight=21.5$\pm$0.8 kg) was conducted using a 3$\times$2 factorial design to study the effect of feeding three sources of protein supplements (soybean meal (SBM), sunflower seed meal (SSM), and cottonseed meal (CSM)), either untreated or formaldehyde-treated on the growth performance and carcass traits of Awassi lambs. Lambs were randomly assigned to one of the six diets (4 lambs/treatment diet) and were individually fed for a period of 107 days. Experimental diets were isonitrogenous and isocaloric. Final live weight and average daily gain (ADG) were affected by both source of protein and formaldehyde treatment (undegradable protein). Lambs fed untreated diets had better (p<0.01) daily gain compared to those fed formaldehyde-treated diets. Similarly total feed intake per animal was significantly (p<0.05) affected by protein source and formaldehyde treatment. Formaldehyde treatment caused a significant decrease (p<0.01) in feed intake compared to lambs fed untreated diets. Feed requirement per unit of gain was not affected by formaldehyde treatment during all periods of the experiment except for the second period (the second 28 day period), whereby untreated SBM, SSM and CSM had better feed conversion ratio (FCR) than the treated groups. Source of protein had a moderate effect (p<0.10) on FCR but had a significant effect (p<0.05) on hot and cold carcass weight, digestive tract empty weight and liver weight, with lambs fed SBM having higher values than lambs fed SSM and CSM diets. Supplementation with undegradable protein had a significant effect (p<0.05) on dressing-out percentage (p<0.05), final live weight, and hot and cold carcass weight (p<0.01). The lower values pertain to lambs fed treated diets compared to lambs fed untreated diets. In general, there were no significant differences among all carcass linear dimensions, carcass cut weights and dissected loin tissue weights for both treatments (protein source and formaldehyde treatment). Supplementation with undegradable protein but not the source of protein resulted in significantly higher dissected leg total bone weight (p<0.05), tibia and femur weight (p<0.05), and femur length (p<0.01) at the same carcass weight. Results suggest that the treatment of SBM, SSM and CSM with formaldehyde did not improve efficiency of feed utilization, lamb performance or carcass traits and that the SBM diet resulted in an increase in lamb performance compared to other experimental diets.

자가제조 액비 관주 처리가 방울토마토의 생장과 과실특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Homemade Liquid Fertigation on Growth and Fruit Characteristics of Cherry Tomatoes)

  • 본 연구는 친환경 토마토(Lycopersicon esculentum var. cerasiforme) 농가에서 대표적으로 자가 제조되고 있는 액비를 노지에 관주하였을 때 생장과 수량에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 구명하기 위하여 수행되었다. 처리는 무처리(물), 유박, 골분+어분, 생선아미노산, 깻묵, 불가사리 액비를 포함하였다. 깻묵과 불가사리 액비의 시기별 pH는 보관 30일 이후에 크게 감소하였고 두 자재의 EC는 0.6~0.8 dS/m으로 가장 높았고 골분+어분액비도 0.4 dS/m 전후로 높은 수준이었다. 액비의 전질소 농도는 불가사리 액비가 0.0062%로 가장 높았고 깻묵(0.0059%) > 골분+어분(0.0030%)순이었고 칼륨도 위의 세 가지 액비에서 가장 높았다. 액비의 인산과 칼슘은 생선아미노산 자재에서 가장 높았고 마그네슘은 식물성인 깻묵 자재에서 유의성 있게 높게 나타났다. 토양 EC는 불가사리 액비 처리구에서 0.74 dS/m로 가장 높았지만 토양과 잎의 대량 무기성분 농도는 처리 간에 차이가 관찰되지 않았다. 잎의 건물중과 엽온 및 줄기의 직경과 초장을 15일에 한 번씩 조사한 결과, 잎 건물중은 시기별로 무처리구에서 대부분 낮았고 초장도 생육 초기에 무처리구에서 가장 작았지만 후기에는 자가제조 액비와 비슷한 수준이었다. 과실수량과 평균과중은 무처리구에서 처리 후 75일 까지 유의성 있게 낮았다. 과실횡경은 골분+어분과 불가사리 액비 처리로 가장 증가하였고 과실 당도와 착색은 생선아미노산 액비구에서 가장 향상되었다. 과실경도는 골분+어분 처리에서 가장 높았다.

Effects of Dietary Chromium Picolinate Supplementation on Growth Performance and Immune Responses of Broilers

  • Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of chromium (Cr) on the growth performance, bone trait, serum traits, and immune responses in broilers. The broilers were fed corn-soybean meal basal diet supplemented with Cr at level of 0(control), 200, 400, or 800 ppb in the form of chromium picolinate (CrPic). The broilers were fed treated diets for 6 weeks in Exp. 1, but the Cr supplement was removed for the last 3 weeks in Exp. 2. Exp. 1 showed that dietary supplement of Cr did not affect growth performance of the broiler, though improved feed efficiency (p<0.05) was observed during 0 to 3 weeks. Moreover, serum total (p<0.05) and HDL cholesterols (p<0.06) were significantly higher in pooled Cr added group at 6 weeks of age, however, the difference was not significant in Exp. 2. The pooled Cr added group in Exp.1 had significantly lower (p<0.05) alkaline phosphatase activity and higher (p<0.09) calcium at 3 weeks. Significantly lower phosphorus was also observed in Exp. 2. With continued supplement of Cr as in Exp. 1, the alkaline phosphatase activity maintained higher at 6 weeks, as opposed to significantly lower in Exp. 2, which had no further Cr supplement. Higher bone breaking strength was observed in 400 ppb Cr supplemented in Exp. 1, though not significantly different. Serum glucose and triglyceride were not affected by Cr supplement. Antibody against Infectious Bronchitis (IB) was significantly (p<0.05) higher with 400 ppb Cr supplemented, and anti-Newcastle disease (ND) antibody also tended to be higher (p<0.06) in pooled Cr added group at 6 weeks of age in Exp. 1. Peripheral blood blastogenesis activity was not different among the treatments. The results suggest that diet supplemented with 400 ppb CrPic may be beneficial to the broiler.

Dental needle foreign body in the neck: a case report

  • Foreign body (FB) ingestion is commonly seen in the ear nose and throat (ENT) field, with different presentations and sequelae. FBs can arrest in the upper aerodigestive tract or continue further down into either the airway tract to the bronchus or the digestive tract to the intestines. The pathway of an FB depends on the size and shape of the FB and how sharp its edges are. Since the 20th century, the use of disposable stainless-steel needles in the oral cavity has proven to be an effective and safe method for performing various intraoral procedures like dental infiltration or a root canal wash. Complications from their use are rare. Generally, dental needle breakages are caused by patients biting the needle, incorrect injection techniques, or inadequate preventative measures. The sudden movement of a patient during a procedure is one of the most common causes of breakage. Occasionally, needles are swallowed during dental procedures such as a root canal. Here, we report a case of a patient that swallowed a broken needle during a dental procedure. A few days later, the patient presented with neck pain, swelling, and a FB sensation. When the patient presented, she claimed that her symptoms had onset after consuming a meal containing duck meat. Initially, the patient was diagnosed as having ingested a duck bone. However, intraoperatively, the FB was discovered to be an injection needle that had migrated from the throat to the neck.

사료 내 Isoflavone 및 항산화 물질 첨가에 의한 양계 생산성과 항산화작용에 관한 연구 (Studies on Chicken Production and Antioxidation Response by Dietary Supplementation of Isoflavone and Antioxidants)

  • Isoflavones are naturally occurring plant chemicals belonging to the 'phytoestrogen' class. The isoflavones are strikingly similar in chemical structure to natural estrogens. The phenolic ring is a key structural element of most compounds that bind to estrogen receptors. Dietary components that recently have received attention for their action as phytoestrogens are soy isoflavones. Soy products are the most significant dietary sources of isoflavones. Recently It is concerned clinical nutrition of isoflavone that is driven by reason of alternative sources of exogenous estrogen are constantly being needed. Estrogen therapy after the menopause offers protection from cardiovascular disease, reduces the extent of osteoporosis and relieves menopausal symptoms. Exogenous estrogen treatment is a fear of possible increased risk of developing breast cancer and because of side effects. Daily intake of soybean or soy food can affirmative effect to disease occurrence, that is based on mechanical investigation, experimental results of animals and human. Research into isoflavone is going on various field to relieve hormone - dependent disease such as cancer, menopausal symptom, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. Isoflavone is plenty in soybean meal, soy by-product, but only limited information is available on isoflavone efficacy into animal husbandry. Thus we conducted three experiments to investigate the effects of dietary isoflavone on productivities, antioxidative responses and bone metabolism in poultry. Dietary supplementation of isoflavone resulted in preventing the lipid oxidation of plasma and egg yolk. Dietary isoflavone improved bone development in egg-type growing chicks and broilers in terms of tibial strength. It was suggested that the proper use of feed additives such as isoflavone might provide means of improving antioxidative effect, skeletal strength, egg and eggshell quality.
