  • Composite resin has been widely used for eroded enamel. But, as there have been many reports about the differences in physicochemical characteristics of eroded enamel compared with sound enamel, an additional effort was thought necessary to obtain the optimal bond strength. As a possible answer, we came to think about the application of infiltrant resin which is known to have an excellent penetration capacity into enamel. This study was performed for the purpose of comparing the bond strength of composite restoration with or without infiltrant resin under adhesives on the artificially eroded enamel. 60 extracted sound maxillary primary incisors were selected and divided into group 1, 2, 3 according to the number of artificial erosion cycling for 5 minute duration in 1% citric acid of pH 3.2 at $37^{\circ}C$. And the labial surfaces were divided into 3 areas; group A, only resin adhesive was used, group I, only infiltrant resin, group IA, infiltrant resin followed by resin adhesive. Afterwards, every specimen was restored with composite resin. Microtensile bond strength was measured and failure modes were observed. The obtained results were as follows: 1. In comparing the bond strength by the degree of enamel erosion, it was revealed the highest bond strength in group 1, followed by group 2 and 3, showing the lowest bond strength in most eroded group(p<0.05). 2. In comparing the bond strength by surface treatment methods, group IA and I showed higher value than group A(p<0.05), with unsignificant difference between group I and IA(p>0.05). 3. In observation of failure mode, it was shown higher frequency of cohesive failure in order of 1-2-3 and IA-I-A. Conclusively, it was shown decreasing tendency of bond strength as the enamel is more eroded, and infiltrant resin was thought helpful to replace or add to the resin adhesive for optimal bonding with eroded enamel.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the shear bond strength and adhesive bond durability of structural glued laminated timber (glulam) manufactured with mixed species lumber of Korean red pine, Korean pine and Japanese larch, using resorcinol adhesive and water-based polymeric-isocyanate adhesive (WPI). Each board used as a glulam lamina was graded by visual inspection. The visual lumber grade of the all species was very low due to the large size and number of knots and the steep slope of grain. In view of the results, appropriate pruning, sawing and drying processes might be needed to produce high grade lamina lumber with small knot size and drying defect free. Shear bond strength of every tested glulam specimen ranged between 7.9 and $9.9N/mm^2$, and much higher than the Korean Standard (KS) for glulam shear bond strength, $7.1N/mm^2$. There was not much shear bond strength difference between wood/resorcinol and wood/WPI. The resorcinol adhesive bond durability exceeded KS requirements. However, delamination on the end-grain surfaces of WPI glulam submerged in both room temperature and boiling water severely occurred, and its durability did not meet KS requirements. Further investigations may be required, and special care should be taken, to ensure long service life of WPI glulam used for exterior application. Results of this study are expected to be useful for improvement of mechanical properties and structural performance of mixed species glulam.

  • CB(Convertible bond) is mezzanine security that have the characteristics of bonds and stocks. From the perspective of investors, the purpose of the research is to empirically investigate the degree of investment efficiency of CB and to suggest efficient investment plans. The research method investigated the maturity interest rate, conversion price, and conversion date for CB, and then linked it with daily stock price fluctuations after the conversion date to determine the degree of investment efficiency and stock conversion effect of CB. As a result of the study, it was analyzed that the ratio of the conversion price exceeded days was only about 1/4 of the conversion date, so the investment efficiency was low. The conversion day yield was -6.3% on average and the maturity day yield was -5.2% on average, showing a minus return on average, which was calculated differently from investor expectations. It was analyzed that the number of stocks with a minus conversion day is 2.4 times greater than the number of plus stocks and 3.7 times more than the number of plus stocks with a minus maturity return, so the expected return on stock conversion of CB is low. The research contribution was derived from the problem that the expected rate of return of CB is not high, and it is that the investor's point of view when purchasing CB was established.

  • Corrosion is a world wide problem effecting a large number of structure. Cost of repair and rehabilitation on reinforcement structure damaged by steel corrosion is expensive. But structural capacity on low level corrosion is increased. So this experimental study was performed to know structural performance on reinforced concrete slabs with low level corroded bars. As in the case of test samples, bond stress and structural capacity increases up to 2% corrosion level.

  • A self-consistent-field Green's matrix method for the calculation of electronic properties of chemisorbed system is devised and applied to the methanol on copper(110) surface. The method is based on CNDO Hartree-Fock approximation. Contour integration in the complex energy plane is used for an efficient calculation of the charge-density bond-order matrix. The information on each fragment prior to chemisorption is efficiently used and a small number of iterations are needed to reach the self-consistency. The changes of density of states and other quantities of methanol due to chemisorption are consistent with reported experimental results.

  • A series of compounds were synthesized that contain varying number of mesogenic units, 4-n-butylazobenzene moiety, attached to the central benzene ring through ester bond. These compounds were subjected to thermal analysis on a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and also on a polarizing microscope. It was found from this study that the presence of mesogenic units in a multi-mesogenic compound does not guarantee for the compound to become mesomorphic and that the linear molecular shape is conducive to form a liquid crystalline phase.

  • Of the numerious dispute resolution methods, Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) is the most highly recommended approach for the guarantee bond-related dispute. In reality, however, claims were not resolved satisfactorily through ADR because of the lack of reference materials for negotiation, thus those were frequently had to be resolved through litigation. The above fact implies that, it is required to seek an efficient way to resolve the bond-related claims prior to they progress to litigation. This research paper intensively investigated judicial precedents of 232 cases with regard to construction bond-related disputes that observed during the analysis period(2000-2004). According to the summary statistics, it turned out that litigation were time consuming and potential economic loss was tremendous; on average, it takes 1067 days(the longest case was 1965 days) for dispute resolution. It suggests that litigations should be discouraged considering the magnitude of potential loss of stake holders. Research results revealed that there are some significant differences between categories in some variables affecting to the rate of winning; i) the number of lawsuit deputies of a plaintiff (in the 1st trial), ii) dispute locations (in the 1st and 3rd trials), iii) contract price (in the 1st trial), iv) contractors' operating capability (in the 1st and 2nd trials). For the rest of variables, significance level between categories was too low for preparing efficient improvement plan. Despite the important implications drawn from the analysis, this research has limitation due to the several reasons such as data structure, the depth of Information, etc. Therefore, more systematic research should be followed in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different etching times on microtensile bond strength (${\mu}TBS$) to dentin both initial and after thermocycling with 3 different types of total-etching adhesives. Fifty four teeth were divided into 18 groups by etching times (5, 15, 25 sec), adhesives types (Scotchbond Multipurpose (SM), Single Bond (SB), One-Step (OS)) and number of thermocycling (0, 2,000 cycles). Flat dentin surfaces were prepared on mid-coronal dentin of extracted third molars. After exposed fresh dentin surfaces were polished with 600-grit SiC papers, each specimen was acid-etched with 35% phosphoric acid (5, 15, 25 sec) and bonded with 3 different types of total etching adhesives respectively. Then, hybrid composite Z-250 was built up. Half of them were not thermocycled (control group) and the ethers were subjected to 2,000 thermocycle (experimental group). They were sectioned occluso-gingivally into $1.0\;{\times}\;1.0\;mm^2$ composite-dentin beams and tested with universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1.0 mm/min. Within limited data of this study, the results were as follows 1. There was no statistically significant difference in ${\mu}TBS$ between the thermocycled and non-thermocycled groups, except for both SM and SB etched for 25 sec. 2. In thermocycled SM and SB groups, bond strength decreased by extended etching time. In total etching systems, adhesive durability for dentin could be affected by type of solvents in adhesive and etching time. Especially, extended etching time may cause deteriorate effects on bond strength when ethanol-based adhesive was used.

  • Through an experiment with gas chromatography carried out using diethylene glycol succinate(DEGS) as the packing material of the column, we have obtained the correction factor between the weight ratio and the peak dimension of the saturated fatty acid methyl esters of C10, C12, C14, C16, and C18 and unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters of oleic acid, linoloic acid, and linolenic acid, employing the detector of thermal conductivity type. Quantitative analysis of the fatty acids contained in rice Bran oil was performed with the above correction factor and the results are as follows; 1. Main components were found to be palmitic acid, oleic acid sand linolenic acid. No trases of capric acid (C10) lauric acid (C10) were found. 2. It was confirmed that there were straight line relation between the logarism retention time of each fatty acid and the number of carbon of saturated fatty acid or the number of double bond of other fatty acids having the same number of carbon. 3. The correction factor became larger as to the number of carbon increased up to C18 in case of saturated fatty acids, end as for other fatty acids, and as for other fatty acids of the same carbon number, it became larger according as the number of double bond increased.
