Purpose: This study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of ceramic fused to Ni-Cr alloy(Alophaloy) by heat treatment. Methods: The specimens were divided into 5 groups according to heat treatment conditions prior to porcelain application. Eighteen specimens from each group were subjected to the shear load a universal testing machine using a 0.1mm/min cross-head speed and two specimens from each group were observed with SEM and EDX line profile. Results: The observation of the oxide film on the metal surface by SEM photograph showed a coarsening with an increasing degassing hold time. The diffusion of metal oxide was observed farther from the opaque layer in the heat treated specimen than no heat treated specimen. The shear bond strength measured highest to A5(55.23MPa) in the 10min holding group and measured lowest from A1(24.38MPa) in the no heat treated group, and there was a significant difference(p<0.05). Conclusion: The shear bond strength of Ni-Cr alloy improved in the heat treatment compared to the no heat treatment specimen.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of four metal surface treatments on the shear bond strength of reline resin to Ni-Cr alloy. The denture base metal used in this study was Ni-Cr alloy(Ticonium Premium 100. Ticonium Co., U.S.A.). 120 specimens were divided into five metal surface treatments: sandblasting only, MR. BOND(Tokuyama Corp.. Japan), Cesead Opaque Primer(Kuraray Co., Japan), METALPRIMER II(GC Corp., Japan) and Super-Bond C&B(Sun Medical Co., Japan) after sandblasting. They were bonded with one of three reline resins Mild Rebaron(GC Corp., Japan), Mild Rebaron LC(GC Corp., Japan) and Meta Base M(Sun Medical Co., Japan). Then they were thermocycled 1,000 times at temperature of $4^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. The shear bond strengths were measured using the universal testing machine(Instron, Model 4301, England) with a cross-head speed of 2 mm/min. The results were as follows : 1. All metal primers and adhesive cement significantly improved the bond strength of reline resin to Ni-Cr alloy compared with sandblasted specimens. 2. In Mild Rebaron and Mild Rebaron LC. Cesead Opaque Primer showed the highest bond strength, but the differences among Cesead Opaque Primer, MR. BOND and METALPRIMER II were not significant. The bond strength of Cesead Opaque Primer was significantly different with that of Super-Bond C&B. 3. In Meta Base M, Super-Bond C&B showed the highest bond strength, but there was no difference between Super-Bond C&B and three metal primers. 4. There was no difference in the bond strength between Mild Rebaron and Mild Rebaron LC when metal surface was treated with the same method. 5. The bond strengths of Mild Rebaron and Mild Rebaron LC treated with Cesead Opaque Primer were higher than that of Meta Base M. The bond strengths of Mild Rebaron treated with MR. BOND and METALPRIMER II was higher than that of Meta Base M, However, there was no difference among three reline resins treated with Super-Bond C&B.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength between composite resin and glass ionomer cement according to surface treatment methods of glass ionomer cement. Sixty round acrylic cylinders were fabricated. And then, a round undercut cavity(8 mm diameter, 2.5mm depth) was prepared in the center of the every acrylic cylinder. After all cavities were restored by using light-cured glass ionomer cement. A total of sixty acrylic cylinders restored with glass ionomer cement were divided into 4 groups according to surface treatment methods of glass ionomer cement. The surface treatment of each group were as follows : control group : no treatment Group 1 : acid etching Group 2 : sandblasting Group 3 : air-podwer abrasive polishing The composite resin was bonded to glass ionomer cement of each specimens. And the shear bond strength was tested with a universal testing machine at a cross-head speed of 1mm/min and 500kg in full scale. The results were as follows : 1. The sandblasting group(group 2) had the highest shear bond strength with $272.50{\pm}24.96\;kg/cm_2$ and the acid etching group(group 1) had the lowest shear bond strength with $192.89{\pm}29.32kg/cm_2$. 2. The no treated group(control group) had higher shear bond strength than acid etching group(group 1) (p<0.05). 3. The sandblasting group(group 2), air-powder abrasive polishing group(group 3) and no treated group(control group) had higher shear bond strength than the acid etching group(group 1) (p<0.05). 4. The sandblasting group(group 2) and air-powder abrasive polishing group(group 3) had higher shear bond strength than the no treatment group(control group), but there was not significant(p>0.05).
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between hybrid layer thickness and bond strength using confocal laser scanning microscope and microtensile bond strength test of two adhesive systems. The dentin surface of human molars. sectioned to remove the enamel from the occlusal surface. Either Scotchbond Multi-Purpose(3M Dental Product, St. Paul, MN, U.S.A) or Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray, Osaka, Japan) was bonded to the surface. and covered with resin-composite. The resin-bonded teeth were serially sliced perpendicular to the adhesive interface to measure the hybrid layer thickness by confocal laser scanning microscope. The specimen were trimmed to give a bonded cross-sectional surface area of $1\textrm{mm}^2$, then the micro-tensile bone test was performed at a cross head speed of 1.0 mm/min. All fractured surfaces were also observed by stereomicroscope. There was no significant differences in bond strengths the materials(p>0.05). However. the hybrid layers of three-step dentin adhesive system, SM, had significantly thicker than self-etching adhesive system. CS(p<0.05). Pearson's correlation coefficient showed no correlation between hybrid layer thickness and bond strengths(p>0.05). Bond strengths of dentin adhesive systems were not dependent on the thickness of hybrid layer.
Statement of problem : In cemented implant-supported porstheses, it is still controversy what kind of cement to use. However, the effect of thermocycling on retentive strength of cemented implant-supported prostheses has not been well investigated. Purpose : This study was tested to evaluate the effects of various cements and thermocycling on retentive strengths of cemented implant-supported prostheses. Material and methods : Prefabricated implant abutments, height 5mm, diameter 6mm, 3-degree taper per side, with light chamfer margins were used. Ten specimens of two-unit fred partial denture were fabricated. The luting agents used for this study were three provisional luting agents which were Temp bond, Temp bond NE, IRM and four permanent luting agents which were Panavia F, Fuji-cem, Hy-bond Zinc cement, Hy-bond Polycarboxylate cement. 24 hours after cementation. the retentive strengths were measured by the universal testing machine with a cross-head speed of 0.5mm/min. Then cementation procedures were repeated and specimens were thermocycled 1000 times at temperature of $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$. After thermocycling, the retentive strengths were measured. Results : Before thermocycling, the retentive strengths were decreased with the sequence of Panavia F. Fuji-cem. Hy-bond Zinc cement. Hy-bond Polycarboxylate cement, IRM, Temp bond NE and Temp bond, and there were significant differences among each groups(p<0.05). After thermocycling, the retentive strengths were decreased with the sequence of Panavia F. Fuji-cem, Hybond Zinc cement, Hy-bond Polycarboxylate cement, IRM, Temp bond NE and Temp bond, and there were no significant differences among Panavia F, Fuji-cem and Temp bond NE, Temp bond(p>0.05). The retentive strengths before and after thermocycling showed significant differences in Hy-bond Zinc cement. IRM, Temp bond NE and Temp bond(p<0.05). Conclusion : Within the limitation of this study, thermocycling do not affect the retentive strengths of permanent luting agents but the retentive strengths of temporary cements were reduced significantly after thermocyling.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength between Ni-Cr alloy and composite resin using universal adhesive systems coMPared to conventional method using metal primers. Materials and methods: For this study, a total of 120 cast commercial Ni-Cr alloy (Vera Bond 2V) disks were embedded in acrylic resin, and their surfaces were smoothed with silicon carbide papers and airborne-particle abrasion. Specimens of each metal were divided into 6 groups based on the combination of metal primers (Metal primer II, Alloy primer, Metal & Zirconia primer, MKZ primer) and universal adhesive systems (Single Bond Universal, All Bond Universal). All specimens were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. Shear bond strength testing was performed with a universal testing machine at a cross head speed of 1 m/min. Data (MPa) were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and the post hoc Tukey's multiple comparison test (${\alpha}$=.05). Results: There were significant differences between Single Bond Universal, All Bond Universal, Metal Primer II and Alloy Primer, MKZ Primer, Metal & Zirconia Primer (P<.001). Conclusion: Universal Adhesive system groups indicated high shear bond strength value bonded to Ni-Cr alloy than that of conventional system groups using primers except Metal Primer II. Within the limitations of this study, improvement of universal adhesive systems which can be applied to all types of restorations is recommended especially non-precious metal alloy. More research is needed to evaluate the effect of silane inclusion or exclusion in universal adhesive systems.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of passive or active application of primer and coat times of bond on the shear bond strength when a self-etching primer adhesive (Clearfil SE Bond) was applied to enamel surface. Crowns of sixteen human molars were selected. Buccal and lingual enamels of crowns were partially exposed and slabs of 1.2 mm thick were made. They were divided into one of four equal groups (n = 8). Group 1: passive application of Primer and 1 coat of Bond, Group 2: active application of Primer and 1 coat of Bond, Group 3: passive application of Primer and 2 coats of Bond, Group 4: active application of Primer and 2 coats of Bond. Clearfil AP-X was bonded to enamel suface of each group using Tygon tubes. The bonded specimens were subjected to microshear bond strength (uSBS) testing with a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. The results of this study were as follows; 1. The uSBS of Group 1 was the lowest among groups and the uSBS of Group 4 was the highest. 2. There was not statistically significant interaction between enamel uSBS by application method of Primer and coat time of Bond (p > 0.05). 3. There was not statistically significant difference between enamel uSBS by passive and active application of Primer (p > 0.05). 4. There was statistically significant difference between enamel uSBS by one- and two-coat of Bond (p < 0.05).
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of artificial saliva contamination on bonding of several dentin adhesives to dentin. Sixty - three human molar teeth extracted within a month were used. Each tooth was sectioned longitudinally in a buccolingual direction to obtain 126 specimens. These specimens were randomly divided into three groups and were treated by Scotchbond 2, Gluma and All bond. Each group was subdivided into three subgroups; normal group not contaminated with artificial saliva, contaminated with artificial saliva and dried group, and contaminated with artificial saliva and washed and dried group. Enamel/dentin bonding agent(Dental Adhesive of Scotchbond 2) was applied and light cured on the treated dentin surfaces. Thereafter P - 50 were cured on them, and specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ artificial saliva for 24 hours before measuring shear bond strength. Shear bond strengths were determined using an universal testing machine with cross head speed 1mm/min and SEM examinations were conducted to evaluate the resin - dentin interface and degree of penetrating resin string into the dentinal tubules. The following results were obtained. 1. Normal groups not contaminated with artificial saliva showed greater shear bond strength than any other group contaminated with artificial saliva(P<0.01). 2. The shear bond strengths showed no significant difference between washed groups with distilled water and not washed groups after contamination with artificial saliva(P>0.05). 3. In normal groups, the shear bond strength of A group was significantly greater than in any other group(P<0.01). 4. In Sand G groups, fractures after shear bond strength tests occured adhesively on resintooth interface in all specimens. But in A groups, fracture of the normal group occured cohesively in dentin and fracture of the contaminated groups occured adhesively and cohesively. 5. On SEM examination, the number of resin strings penetrated into dentinal tubules were the greatest in normal groups, followed by, in descending order, washed groups and not washed groups after contamination with artificial saliva.
A new theoretical approach for analysis of stress around a tensioned anchor in rock is presented in this paper. The solution has been derived for semi-infinite elastic rock and anchor and for plane strain conditions. The method considers both the anchor head bearing plate and its grouted bond length embedded in depth. The solution of the tensioned rock anchor problem is obtained by superimposing the solutions of two simpler but fundamental problems: A distributed load applied at a finite portion (bearing plate area) of the rock surface and a distributed shear stress applied at the anchor-rock interface along the bond length. The solution of the first problem already exists and the solution of the shear stress distributed along the bond length is found in this study. To acquire a deep understanding of the stress distribution around a tensioned anchor in rock, an illustrative example is solved and stress contours are drawn for stress components. In order to verify the results obtained by the proposed solution, comparisons are made with finite difference method (FDM) results. Very good agreements are observed for the teoretical results in comparison with FDM.
The behavior of headed bars in concrete is investigated through 108 pullout tests having an embedment depth of eight times the bar diameter in the M20 concrete mix. Headed bars are designed based on ASTM A970-16 and ACI 318-19 recommendations. The primary parameters used in this study are the steel bar diameter, the steel fibers percentage, and the head shapes. Three failure modes namely, Steel, Concrete-Blowout & Pull-Through failure have been observed. Based on load-deflection curves which are plotted to investigate the bond capacity of headed bars, it is observed that the circular-headed bars have displayed the highest peak load. The comparative analysis shows the smaller differences in the ultimate bond strength between MC2010 (0.89-2.26 MPa) and EN 1992-1-1 (2.32 MPa) as compared to ACI-318-19 (11-22 MPa) which is due to the absence of embedment depth and peak load factor in MC2010 and EN 1992-1-1 respectively.
