Studies of the Mullite-Cordierite Composites as a Substrate Material (기판재료로서의 물라이트-코디어라이트 복합재료에 관한 특성)

  • Mullite and cordierite were prepared by the sol-gel route. Boehmite, fumed silica and Mg(NO3)2$.$6H2O were their starting materials. Mullite and cordierite powder were mixed by various weight percent. These mixed sols were ball-milled for 48hrs, dried at 100$^{\circ}C$, pressed, cold isostatic pressed and sintered at 1490$^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs. Mullite-cordierite composites sintered at 1490$^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs had>98% of theoretical density. Bending strength of the sintered bodies were 329-249MPa, dielectric constant 7.1-6.7 at 1MHz and thermal expansion coefficient at 800$^{\circ}C$ was matched with Si in the range of 30-35wt% cordierite.

Phase Transformation and Microstructural Change of Alumina Membrane (알루미나 여과막의 상전이와 미세구조 변화)

  • Alumina membrane was prepared by sol-gel coating method using boehmite powder(${\Upsilon}-AlOOH$). The supported and the unsupported alumina membrane were fabricated to investigate the phase transformation and change of microstructure. It is important to control the homogeneous pore size and distribution in application of filtering process. The ${\theta}-to\;{\alpha}-AL_2O_3$ phase transformation (XRD) and the change of microstructure was investigated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM). XRD patterns showed that the supported membrane had $100^{\circ}C$ higher ${\theta}-to\;{\alpha}-AL_2O_3$ transformation temperature compared to the unsupported membrane. The similar effect was also observed for microstructural change of the membrane.

  • $Al_2O_3$ has received wide attention with established use as a catalyst and growing application in structural or functional ceramic materials. On the other hand, the boehmite (AlO(OH)) obtained by sol-gel process has exhibited a decrease in surface area during phase transformation due to a decline in surface active site at high temperature. In this work, $Al_2O_3$-CuO/ZnO (ACZ) and $Al_2O_3$-CuO/CeO (ACC) composite materials were synthesized with aluminum isopropoxide, copper (II) nitrate hemi (pentahydrate), and cerium (III) nitrate hexahydrate or zinc (II) nitrate hexahydrate. Moreover, the Span 80 as the template block copolymer was added to the ACZ/ACC composition to make nano size particles and to keep increasing the surface area. The ACZ/ACC synthesized powders were characterized by Thermogravimetry-Differential Thermal analysis (TG/DTA), X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), Field-Emmision Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM), Bruner-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface analysis and thermal electrical conductivity (ZEM-2:M8/L). An enhancement of surface area with the addition to Span 80 surfactant was observed in the ACZ powders from 105 $m^2$/g to 142 $m^2$/g, and the ACC powders from 103 $m^2$/g to 140 $m^2$/g, respectively.

  • [ ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ ] precursor was synthesised by sol-gel method using aluminum sulfate, sodium sulfate and sodium carbonate as law materials. The flaky ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ crystals were prepared by heating using precursor about $1,050^{\circ}C$. In this study, the effect of some transition-metal sulfate ($FeSO_4,\;SnSO_4,\;ZnSO_4$) addition have been investigated. When iron sulfate was added, it could see that act on impurities in crystal growth process. In case of tin sulfate, distribution of Platelets was very broad. When flaky ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ crystals were prepared zinc sulfate addition, thickness, size, and distribution of platelets was suited to industrial application. The average diameter of flaky ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ crystals was about 20 $\mu$m, and its thickness was about 0.3 $\mu$m. Increasing addition of zinc sulfate, thickness of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ platelet was decreased.

  • The CVD film of methoxysilane derived from diphenyldimethoxysilane(DPDMS) was formed on the outer surface of a porous ${\alpha}-alumina$ support tube coated(via dipping-drying-calcining) with a boehmite sol(0.3 mol-Al/L). The resulting silica membrane($500^{\circ}C,\;P_{fe}\;=\;130\;Pa$) showed a permeance of $5.18{\times}10^{-8}\;mol\;{\cdot}\;m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}{\cdot}Pa^{-1}\;for\;CO_2$ and a permselectivity of 13.35 for $CO_2/N_2\;at\;30^{\circ}C$.

Effects of Surface Characterization of γAl2O3 Particles by Aging in the Sol Preparation (졸 합성시 숙성이 γAl2O3 입자의 표면특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The surface characteristics of calcined ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ particles as well as ${\gamma}-AlO$(OH) sol particles were controlled by aging in the boehmite sol preparation. As a result of the study, the IEPs of ${\gamma}-AlO$(OH) particles were decreased from pH 9.25 to pH 8.70 and those of the calcined ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ particles were decreased from pH 9.90 to pH 8.86 by the increase of the aging times. As a result of the acidic and basic characterization of the calcined ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ particles by the aging, the amount of acid sites was decreased from 0.1367 mmol/g to 0.0783 mmol/g by the increase of the aging times and Hammett acidity, $H_o$ was showed the acidic strength of 4.8 or above. On the other hand, the amount of basic sites was decreased from 0.4399 mmol/g to 0.3074 mmol/g by the increase of the aging times. Based on these results, we proposed the fact that the aging step in the sol-gel process was an important step to control the surface characterization of ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ particles including acidity and basicity.

Spectroscopic Characteristics of Ruby from Gorno-Badakhshan, Tajikistan (타지키스탄 고르노바다흐샨주 지역 루비에 대한 분광학적 특성 연구)

  • Physical properties, XRF, UV-Vis, FTIR studies were carried out in order to characterize gemological features of ruby from Tajikistan. Fluorescence reaction of the Tajikistan ruby to short wave ultraviolet was moderate to very strong in red and long wave ultraviolet rays was weakly detected. UV-visible analysis strong absorption bands at 468.5, 475, 476.5 nm and broaden bands at 550 nm were observed for ruby due to $Cr^{3+}$. According to FT-IR analysis, all rubies from Tajikistan showed the similar patterns and kaolinite peaks at 3500, 3617, 3630, $3677cm^{-1}$ and boehmite broaden absorption bands at 3085 and $3320cm^{-1}$. Inclusions in Tajikistan ruby are observed solid inclusions, negative crystals, needle and silk inclusions. These distinctive characteristics mentioned above can be used to identify the locality and source of ruby stones from Tajikistan.

The Photoluminescence Properties of Er doped Alumina Sol-Gel Films Coated on Si Substrates (Er이 도핑된 알루미나 졸-겔 코팅막의 광발광 특성)

  • 광통신에는 광신호의 전송과 광신호 처리에 처리 과정에서 광 손실을 수반하므로 각 요소별로 광신호 증폭이 반드시 필요하다. 또한 광통신망의 완전 광화를 위해서는 제조 공정이 간단하여 가격이 저렴하고, 높은 신뢰성과 높은 증폭 효율을 가지면서 다른 부품과의 집적화가 가능한 광도파로형 광증폭기가 요구되고 있다 그러나 실리카는 광통신 파장대인 1.55$\mu\textrm{m}$대역의 증폭이 가능한 Er 이온에 대한 용해도가 50ppm 이하로 낮아 lmol% 이상 고농도로 Er 이온을 첨가하여 높은 증폭 효율을 얻는데 한계를 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Er 이온에 대하여 높은 용해 특성을 가지고 있어 고농도 Er 이온 도핑이 가능한 알루미나에 Er을 1-2 mol% 첨가하여 광발광 특성을 조사하였다. Er이 첨가된 알루미나 나노 졸은 Al(NO$_3$)$_3$ㆍ9$H_2O$와 Er(NO$_3$)$_3$.5$H_2O$가 일정 양 용해된 수용액에 NH$_4$OH를 가하여 침전물을 얻고 여과 및 수세하여 졸 입자의 함량이 약 5wt%가 되게 이온교환수와 해교제인 초산을 소량 가하여 10$0^{\circ}C$에서 약 50시간 열처리하는 방법으로 제조하였다. Er이 첨가된 알루미나 코팅막은 Er 이 첨가된 알루미나 나노 졸에 GPS(3-glycidoxypropyltriethoxysilane)를 Al에 대하여 7 mol% 가하여 스핀 코팅법으로 제조하였다. Si 기판에 코팅하고, 상온에서 90$0^{\circ}C$까지 각 1시간 열처리한 코팅막의 광 발광 특성은 Er 이온의 첨가량과 열처리로 변화된 알루미나 코팅막의 결정상과 연계하여 논의 될 것이다. X-선 회절법으로 분석한 알루미나 코팅막의 온도에 따른 결정상은 boehmite 상에서 약 50$0^{\circ}C$이후에 ${\gamma}$-Al$_2$O$_3$로 전이하고 있다.
