Body constitution research in Korean traditional medicine adopt the diagnosis and treatment theory of "image-differentiation[body constitution differentiation, disease differentiation] in combination with syndrome differentiation diagnostic model and symptoms and signs of herbal property belong to image" as its core, which is key national medical science research project of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the project brought up 4 key scientific problem ? body constitution differentiation theory, correlation theory of body constitution and disease, body constitution adjustable theory and symptoms and signs of herbal property belong to image theory. In body constitution pathology, it brought up "correlation between body constitution and symptoms", "differentiation between body constitution and symptoms" which increase the diagnostic level and diagnostic accuracy rate. In the condition of pathology, it obviously has low reliability according to body constitution differentiation, sometimes happen the description not comply with body constitution and disease symptoms, which lead to decrease the clinic diagnostic and treatment level, treatment effect not satisfying too. Now taking 4 key scientific achievement as criterion to illustrate the body constitution and disease symptoms.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of self-perception on the relationship between body image and depressive symptoms in middle school adolescents. Methods: This study performed a pathway analysis with a sample of 284 adolescents recruited from three middle schools. Self-reported questionnaires consisted of items regarding body image, self-perception, and depressive symptoms. Results: Body image, self-perception, and depressive symptoms showed a significant correlation. Self-perception was directly affected by body image and depressive symptoms were not affected by body image. The mediating effect of self-perception on body image's impact on depressive symptoms was confirmed. Self-perception had a significant indirect effect on depressive symptoms, which means that self-perception has a full mediating effect on body image's impact on depressive symptoms. Conclusion: The effect of body image on depressive symptoms was fully mediated by self-perception in early adolescents. It suggests that self-perception needs to be considered when providing nursing interventions for adolescents.
Musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) problems have been increasingly reported in hospital sector but the problems were not addressed with respect to holistic aspects of the target population in Korea. Often, it is required to understand how MSD symptoms are associated with factors such as personal, work environmental and psychosocial stressors. To examine features of association between sets of MSD symptoms and the factors, a questionnaire survey was conducted in a university hospital. A 140-item questionnaire was developed and used for collecting information including factors (e.g., job/occupation, task/activity, job stress) and MSD symptoms. A total of 1,091 workers (male 23.7% and female 76.3%) were finally determined for data analyses. Prevalence rate for the whole body was 72% and, among body parts, the highest was 48.7% for the shoulder, followed by 34.6%(the low back), 32.7%(the leg/foot), 27.9%(the neck), 26.7%(the wrist) and 12%(the elbow). The symptoms were significantly different by job/occupational variable in each of all body parts except the neck. The symptoms were very significantly different by task/activity variables in each of all body parts while those symptoms were significantly different by psychosocial variables, depending on body part and gender. In the logistic regression analyses performed for MSD symptoms by body part and each of 3 factors, odds ratio values varied, ranging from 0.7 to 3.3. The controls for reducing the symptoms were discussed on the basis of the findings. The results show that the MSD symptoms can remarkably vary by the factors and, in particular, can be highly differential for the task/activity factor. This study suggests that MSD symptom features be examined by using various factors and then a higher differential factor be primarily utilized for controling MSD symptoms in general industry including hospital settings.
Objectives : These days many people tend to prefer spicy taste. The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between prefer spicy and physical symptoms. Methods : We examined the subjective physical condition of patients who visited L/C clinic during the period between January and June 2023 by conducting a survey. The survey was completed voluntarily, and the anonymity and confidentiality of the research data were strictly protected, and it was stated that patients could withdraw at any time if they did not want to participate. Patients who refused to complete the survey and patients with limited capacity to give consent were excluded. The survey took about 10 minutes to complete. We analyzed 248 cases who answered the survey and found that 66 patients had a high spicy preference. Results : As a result, participants with high spicy taste preference tended to have general body symptoms such as fever, sweat, and thirst; digestive symptoms such as belching, constipation, bloody stools, and abdominal distension; genitourinary symptoms such as yellowish urine, urinary retention, white fluor albus, and premenstrual tension; and neuromuscular symptoms such as edema, blepharospasm, and cold hands. Conclusion : People who have general body symptoms, digestive symptoms, genitourinary symptoms and neuromuscular symptoms described above should try to eat as little spicy food as possible and make sure they get a good balance of the five flavors.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find the effects of an exercise program on body composition, serum lipids, and menopausal symptoms in Korean menopausal women. Methods: This research used none qui valent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 30 middle-aged women who were divided into two groups, an experimental group (n = 16) who participated in the exercise program and a control group (n = 14). The exercise program was composed of gymnastic-ball exercises with RPE $12{\sim}13$ intensity, 50 minutes' duration and three times a week for 12 weeks from April 1 to June 30, 2008. The dependent variables (body composition, serum lipids, menopause symptoms, self-efficacy, and life satisfaction) were measured before and after exercise program. Results: There were statistically significant difference in weight (F=2.92, p=.049), percent body fat (F=4.22, p=.040), total cholesterol (F=2.63, p= .017) and high density lipoprotein (F=6.74, p= .015) between the two groups. Psychological menopausal symptoms also decreased significantly (F=7.01. p=.014) after the exercise in the experimental group. Conclusions: Regular gymnastic-ball exercises are helpful for menopausal women. They have positive effects not only on body composition and serum lipids but also on the decrease of menopausal symptoms. The results of this study suggest that gymnastic-ball exercise programs are effective in health promotion of Korean middle-aged women, and thus it is necessary to develop exercise programs for women.
