비만 남성의 비만 정도에 따른 인구통계 및 사회심리적 특성 비교 (A comparison of demographic and socio-psychological characteristics of obese males according to degree of obesity)

  • This study aims to explore the diverse characteristics of obese groups of Korean males in their 20's to 40's. A total of 201 males who each had a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 23 or over were recruited through a convenient sampling. Samples were categorized into groups of overweight, slightly obese, and severely obese, and submitted for data analysis. Results are summarized as follows. First, in terms of demographic characteristics, slightly and severely obese males were older than overweight males. There were also group differences in marital status and household income. Second, slightly and severely obese groups demonstrated a higher perception of obesity and a lower perception of health than did the overweight group. Third, there were no group differences in body satisfaction, socio-cultural attitudes toward appearance, and self-esteem. Based on these results, we concluded that overweight, slightly obese, and severely obese groups were distinguishable from each other in terms of their demographic characteristics, whereas the slightly obese group and the severely obese group were not different in terms of perception of obesity, perception of health, weight control behaviors, body satisfaction, body image, socio-cultural attitudes toward appearance, and self-esteem. These findings may reflect that people may not become increasingly sensitive to socio-psychological stimulations as they gain more weight if they have exceeded a certain level of obesity. This observation provides meaningful implications for the differences among obesity groups given the lack of prior research focusing on this issue.

인간의 비언어적 행동 특징을 이용한 다중 사용자의 상호작용 의도 분석 (Interaction Intent Analysis of Multiple Persons using Nonverbal Behavior Features)

  • According to the cognitive science research, the interaction intent of humans can be estimated through an analysis of the representing behaviors. This paper proposes a novel methodology for reliable intention analysis of humans by applying this approach. To identify the intention, 8 behavioral features are extracted from the 4 characteristics in human-human interaction and we outline a set of core components for nonverbal behavior of humans. These nonverbal behaviors are associated with various recognition modules including multimodal sensors which have each modality with localizing sound source of the speaker in the audition part, recognizing frontal face and facial expression in the vision part, and estimating human trajectories, body pose and leaning, and hand gesture in the spatial part. As a post-processing step, temporal confidential reasoning is utilized to improve the recognition performance and integrated human model is utilized to quantitatively classify the intention from multi-dimensional cues by applying the weight factor. Thus, interactive robots can make informed engagement decision to effectively interact with multiple persons. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme works successfully between human users and a robot in human-robot interaction.

보건소에서 실시한 직장인 비만 영양교육의 효과 (The Effect of Nutrition Education on Weight Control in Male Workers by the Community Health Center)

  • The principal objective of this study was to determine the importance of obesity management nutrition programs for obese male workers after performing a 10-week nutrition program and to compare changes in the obesity index, health behavior, meal intake, and blood constituents. The study subjects included 44 individuals, all without chronic disease. After the program, the weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, and waist-hip ratio (WHR) of the subjects dropped. Dietary life behavior scores increased. In particular, more than 30% increases were detected in self-control of surfeit, control of eating speed, temperance, and regular exercise items. Total caloric intake and average drinking intake dropped. Though insignificant, systolic pressure, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and sGPT all dropped as compared to the levels measured prior to the program. Fasting blood sucrose, triglyceride, $\gamma$-GTP, and atherogenic index dropped significantly. HDL-cholesterol, though insignificant, increased. As the result of examining correlations between the subjects' health life behavior, caloric intake, and improvement in obesity, we noted a significant correlation between self-control of surfeit and temperance in the health life behavior item, along with significant correlations among total calorie intake, surfeit percentage, and daily average drinking intake. These results demonstrated that nutrition program for obese workers performed at the Community Health Center had the effect of reducing obesity, improving health behavior, and improving clinical levels. Thus, it is advisable that obesity management programs be achieved, linking the center of local societies' health promotion projects, community health centers, and workplaces, and various programs should be developed to maintain and continue changes in workers' behaviors, such that the positive effects of improvement in obesity could be maintained, even after the program.

중년여성대상 체중조절 프로그램이 체구성 및 혈액지질 개선에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Weight Control Program on Obesity Degree and Blood Lipid Levels among Middle-aged Obese Women)

  • 본 연구는 $35{\sim}55$세 중년 여성을 대상으로 운동과 식사요법을 중심으로 12주간 체중 조절 프로그램을 실시한 후 대상자들의 비만도 및 혈액 지질 개선 효과, 식습관 변화에 미치는 영향을 조사하였고 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 12주간의 체중 조절 프로그램 실시로 체중, 체지방량, 체지방률, BMI, 비만도 모두 유의성은 없었지만 감소되었다. 체중은 $67.4{\pm}10.8kg$에서 $65.1{\pm}9.2kg$으로, 체지방량은 $27.6{\pm}6.9kg$에서 $26.7{\pm}7.5kg$으로 프로그램 실시전과 비교하여 0.9 kg 정도 감소되었다. 체지방률(%)도 $40.6{\pm}5.2%$에서 $39.6{\pm}5.1%$로 감소되었으며 제지방량(FFM)도 $39.9{\pm}5.6kg$에서 $37.0{\pm}8.5kg$으로 감소를 보였다. 2. 대상자들의 비만도 (Obesity degree, %)와 체질량지수 (BMI)는 프로그램 실시 전 각각 $128.4{\pm}19.1%,\;27.8{\pm}3.9$에서 프로그램 실시 후 $123.4{\pm}15.7%,\;26.8{\pm}3.0$로 감소하였다. 복부 비만도(WHR)도 프로그램 실시 전과 후 각각 $0.98{\pm}0.16$에서 $0.94{\pm}0.04$로 변화되었다. 3. 체중조절 프로그램 실시 전후 혈압, 공복시 포도당, 중성지방, 콜레스테롤 농도 모두 뚜렷한 변화는 없었지만 수축기 혈압이 $119.19{\pm}17.03mmHg$에서 $114.55{\pm}17.86mmHg$으로 감소되었고, 총 콜레스테롤은 $179.35{\pm}34.46mg/dL$에서 $173.45{\pm}38.88mg/dL$로, 중성지방은 $174.71{\pm}91.33mg/dL$에서 $167.44{\pm}47.31mg/dL$로 유의성은 없었지만 모두 감소한 반면, 동맥경화 억제요인인 HDL-콜레스테롤 농도는 $43.06{\pm}14.05mg/dL$에서 $50.38{\pm}16.47mg/dL$로 증가되었다. 4. 대상자들의 식습관 분석 결과 영양교육 실시 전 18.7점에서 실시 후 20.8점으로 증가하였으며 특히 가장 점수가 낮았던 ${\ulcorner}$만복감${\lrcorner}$${\ulcorner}$식품의 배합${\lrcorner}$ 항목에서 개선되었고, 그외 ${\ulcorner}$음식의 간을 싱겁게${\lrcorner}$${\ulcorner}$채소섭취${\lrcorner}$ 항목도 영양교육 실시로 인해 크게 개선되었다. 5. 식사 일기 기록을 통한 영양소 섭취 분석 결과 1일 총 열량 섭취량은 $30{\sim}49$세 경우 프로그램 실시 전 $1,774.7{\pm}486.1kcal$에서 실시후 $1,189.1{\pm}310.5kcal$로 낮아졌으며, 50세 이상에서도 프로그램 실시 전과 후 각각 $1,549.4{\pm}327.1kcal,\;1,371.4{\pm}221.0kcal$로 감소하였다. 1일 단백질 섭취량을 비롯하여 지방, 칼슘, 철분, 비타민 C의 섭취량도 열량 섭취량 감소에 따라서 섭취 권장량 이하로 감소되었다.

성심산(醒心散)의 중대뇌동맥 폐쇄로 유발된 허혈성 뇌손상 백서(白鼠)에 대한 인지 및 운동기능 회복 촉진효과 (Sungshim-san-mediated Recovery of Cognition and Motor Function in the Severe Rat Stroke, Permanent Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion Model)

  • Objectives: The object of this study was to evaluate the cognition and motor function recovery effects of Sungshim-san (SSS), a traditional Korean cardio-protective polyherbal formula in the severe rat stroke, permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO) model. Methods: The experimental animals were divided into 6 groups. SSS aqueous extracts (yield=16.82%; 400, 200 and 100 mg/kg) were administered orally by using Sonde, once daily, for 28 continuous days from 24 hrs post-pMCAO. Donepezil 10 mg/kg, a representative drug for dementia, was used as a reference drug. The body weight changes, infarct/defect sizes, sensorimotor function and cognitive motor behavior were serially monitored. Limb placing and body-swing test for sensorimotor functions were conducted at 1 day before operation (base line), and 1, 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days post-pMCAO; and water maze test for the cognitive motor behavior was conducted at 14 and 28 days post-pMCAO, respectively. Results: Focal cerebral cortex infarct and defects due to pMCAO resulted in marked decreases of body weight, disorders of sensorimotor functions and cognitive motor behaviors. However, the pMCAO-related ischemic damages were markedly and dose-dependently inhibited by treatment with SSS 400 and 200 mg/kg, respectively. Donepezil markedly decreased the body weight and gains, as compared with pMCAO control rats; however, SSS 400 and 200 mg/kg favorably ameliorated the pMCAO-induced decreases in body weight and gains. SSS 100 mg/kg treated rats did not show any favorable effects on the pMCAO-related ischemic damages, as compared with pMCAO control rats. Conclusions: The results of the study indicated that oral administration of SSS 400 and 200 mg/kg accelerated cognition and motor function recovery in the rat pMCAO model. The treatment effect was potentially mediated by neuroprotection via the known augmentation of cerebral antioxidant defense system of SSS itself or its individual herbal components. Especially, the overall effects of SSS 200 mg/kg were similar to those of donepezil 10 mg/kg, but less toxic.

서울지역 일부 여고생의 다이어트 경험에 따른 체중조절 행동, 섭식장애 위험도 및 우울정도의 비교 (Body Image Perception, Eating Disorder Risk, and Depression Level according to Dieting Experience of Female High School Students in Seoul)

  • This study was conducted in order to compare weight control behaviors, eating disorder risk, and depression in female adolescents according to dieting experience during the last year. The subjects were 707 students attending a girls' high school in Seoul, and all the information was collected by self-administered questionnaire. Eating disorder risk and depression were determined by using EAT-26 (Eating Attitude Test-26) and PHQ-9 (Patient Health Questionnaire-9), respectively. Data were compared between subjects with experience of dieting (320) and those without (387). More of the subjects with dieting experience were unsatisfied with their own body weights (76.9% vs. 44.2%, P<0.01) and weighed themselves frequently (P<0.01) compared to those without diet experience. EAT-26 ($11.63{\pm}8.3$ vs. $5.99{\pm}4.7$, P<0.01) and PHQ-9 scores ($7.05{\pm}4.6$ vs. $6.00{\pm}4.4$, P<0.01) were higher in subjects with dieting experience compared to their counterparts. Therefore, we concluded that dieting is associated with several undesirable psychological aspects such as eating disorder risk and depression in adolescent girls, and thus providing proper education is urgently needed to emphasizing importance of healthy weight and the danger of unnecessary dieting.

성역할정체감에 따른 외모관리행동 및 신체노출태도에 관한 연구 (A Study of Appearance Management Behaviors and Body Exposure Attitudes according to Sex Role Identity)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of appearance management behavior and body exposure attitude according to sex role identity. The method of this study was a survey research method by questionnaire. The subjects were 632 college students (male: 302, female: 330) living in Seoul area. The data were analyzed by SPSS program. Analysis methods used were frequency, factor analysis, Cronbach's $\alpha$-reliability coefficient, one-way ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. The subjects were divided into 4 types of sex role identity: androgynous, masculine, feminine, and undifferentiated type. The female androgynous group had skin care the most, while the male androgynous type had clothing management and weight control the most among the 4 types. Both male and female androgynous groups had hairstyle care the most. Both the male and female masculine groups wore chest exposing clothes the most, while the female masculine type wore shoulder exposing and leg exposing clothes the most. The female androgynous group showed the highest appearance management expenses.

발레전공 여대생의 식행동, 영양상태 및 혈액 성상 조사 (A Study on Dietary Behaviors, Nutritional Status and Hematological Status in Female Ballet Majors in University)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the dietary behaviors, nutritional status and hematological status of female ballet majors a university. The study was conducted from May 11 to June 20, 2004 by questionnaires, anthropometry and blood analysis and data analyzed by SPSS program. The results are summarized as follows: The body mass index (BMI) and body fat rate of the ballet majors were significantly lower than those of the controls. Eighty-six point four percent of the ballet majors and $58.3\%$ of the controls had weight control experiences. Intakes of the nutrients were lower than those of the Korean recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) , except vitamin C in the ballet majors. Intakes of calories, calcium and iron were lower than those of the RDAs in the controls. Serum triglyceride levels of the ballet majors were significantly lower than that of the controls. HDL-cholesterol concentration was higher in the ballet majors than in the controls. No differences were found in the serum total cholesterol level, hemoglobin level, and hematocrit value between the groups. Total iron binding capacity of the ballet majors was higher than that of the controls. Serum iron level was significantly lower in the ballet majors than in the controls. Nutrition knowledge scores and dietary attitude scores were lower in the ballet majors than in the controls. Self esteem and body-cathexis of the ballet majors were higher than that of the controls. These results indicate that the ballet majors should be given more nutritional education to improve their nutritional status and the dancing Performance. 여고생의 BMI에 따른 스트레스, 우울, 폭식 및 식행동에 관한 연구 (Study on Stress, Depression, Binge Eating, and Food Behavior of High School Girls Based on Their BMI)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of stress, depression, binge eating and food behavior of high school girls with their degree of BMI. One hundred twenty high school girls from the Seoul metropolitan area participated in this study. Self-administrated questionnaires to search for degree of stress, depression, binge eating, and food behavior were distributed. Anthropometric assessment was carried out to calculate the body mass index(BMI). The results are as follows: The mean of age and BMI of the subjects were $17.6{\pm}0.6$ years and $21.0{\pm}2.9kg/m^2$(ranged from 15.4 to $31.7kg/m^2$), respectively. 16.7%, 65.8% and 17.5% of the subjects were classified as under weight, normal weight and overweight, respectively. The average scores of stress, depression and binge eating were $124.9{\pm}31.4$, $15.2{\pm}9.8$, $29.5{\pm}7.8$ points, respectively. The food behavior score was $11.5{\pm}2.4$ points. Their degree of stress, depression, binge eating was significantly higher in overweight high school girls compared to underweight or normal weight high school girls. There were significant correlations of BMI with stress(p<0.05), depression(p<0.001), and binge eating(p<0.01). Also there were significant correlations of food behavior with stress(p<0.05), depression(p<0.05) and binge eating(p<0.001). These results indicate that the high school girls who have higher BMI seem to have more stress, depression, and binge eating habits. Also the high school girls who have more stress, depression and binge eating habits have poor food behaviors. Therefore proper control of emotions is required to maintain desirable food behaviors in high school girls.

A Study on Health Risk Behavior Factors and Chronic Disease Risk Factors

  • This study classified subjects aged 30 to 64 into normal group, impaired fasting glucose group, and diabetes mellitus patient group based on data from the 6th period of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2013-2015). Skipping breakfast, lack of physical activity, inadequate sleep time, inadequate weight, excessive drinking, and current smoking are classified as a low health risk group when three or less items are present, and a high health risk group when three or more items are included. By classification, each item included in the physical measurement and biochemical analysis factors and health risk behavior factors was comparatively analyzed. As a result, in the normal group, impaired fasting glucose group, and diabetes group, the average age was higher in the group with high health risk factors than the group with low risk factors, and the male ratio was higher. Body mass index, waist circumference, blood pressure, triglyceride showed a significantly higher result. In the normal group, the fasting blood glucose level and total cholesterol level were also higher in group 2. Therefore, it is thought that it is necessary to control health risk behaviors through lifestyle changes in the normal group, fasting glucose disorder group, and diabetes group.
