  • There are relatively many reports have been issued on he active movement of cuticle of larva. which tend to protect their body, however, only a few reports have been disclosed on the cuticle of pupal body except the small portion of rectangle which shown tortoise-shell shape. In this connection, many portion of the external structure of pupal cuticle has been studied and the following. results were found: 1) No. spot of rectangle which is sculptured in the surface of cuticle that born by branching. out of the development of cell in imaginal bud of antenna and head were found. However, in the compound eye of net shaped sculpture was found in the (equation omitted) shaped parts which holding. the diameter of about 8u and the surrounding area has the small bump and the one is dark brown coloured comparing with shape. 2) The sculpture shape of thorax is a little different than in the head. However, (equation omitted) portion is varies from the segment to segment. In general, it is not very clear than the compound eye in the head, the dark brown bump shape is slowly fade a from the prothorax, mesothorax to metathorax. 3) The surface of intersegment membrane is colourless or slightly yellow, and the entire surface has stripped marking with thine lines. 4) In the abdominal segment, there are many and small sculptures in net shape around the (equation omitted) shape portions. 5) The size of sculpture in (equation omitted) portion of abdomen is smaller than one in thorax, and in the same segment, the dorsal is smaller than abdomen and the rear portion of the segment is larger than the front of segment. 6) After the 7th abdominal segment, no intersegmental membrane is found and the cuticle of the external structure is the same as external structure of the segment. 7) The seta is not found in head, compound eye, antenna and wing which portions were subdivided by development of imagined bud of the cell, no seta is found in cuticle of the segment in the general cell of the larva stage and also in the dorsal and intersegmental membrane.

  • This study analyzed differences between three-dimensional (3D) body scanning and manual measurements, aiming to assess whether 3D scanning can replace traditional anthropometric tools, such as tape measures and calipers. Data from 4,478 participants in the 8th Size Korea Project were analyzed, covering 43 measurement items. Since Given that the 3D and manual measurements were performed on the same subjects in the 8th Size Korea Project, it was possible to determine the correlation more accurately between the two measurement methods more accurately. Using Applying ISO 20685-1(2018) standards, 15 out of the 43 items fell within allowable error limits. When classified into six types, "small circumferences" and "segment lengths" showed averages of 3.35 mm and 3.10 mm, respectively, within acceptable range. "Body heights" and "body depths" slightly exceeded the limit, with averages of 5.28 mm and 6.58 mm. "Body widths" and "large circumferences" surpassed the limit, with means of 16.77 mm and 16.18 mm. The study offers an objective basis to for validate validating 3D measurements' measurements' reliability and accuracy, addressing various industries' needs for information on the human body's dimensions information.

  • In this study the occlusion of dural-sac, the outer membrane of spinal cord in the lumbar region, was quantitatively analyzed using one motion segment finite element model. Occlusion was quantified by calculating cross sectional area change of dural-sac far different compressive impact duration(loading rate) due to bony fragment at the posterior wall of the cortical shell in vertebral body. Dural-sac was occluded most highly in the range of 8∼12 msec impact duration by the bony fragment intruding into the spinal canal. t=400 msec case 4% cross sectional area change was calculated, which is the same as the cross sectional area change under 6 kN of static compressive loading.

  • A halacarid species of the genus Copidognathus is newly reported from Korea: C. daguilarensis Bartsch, 1997, which was described from Hong Kong. It is redescribed herein with detailed illustrations. Korean specimens coincide well with the original description, however, they showed two minor morphological discrepancies from it: quite shorter second palpal segment than the fourth and a modified dorsal seta on the second palpal segment. Korean specimens were rather smaller than the type specimens from Hong Kong, however, they did not show significant differences in the length to width ratios of important body parts. The number of perigenital setae was more variable in the Korean males, ranged 24-29 setae, versus 25-26 in Hong Kong's. Copidognathus daguilarensis is reported for the first time outside the type locality, and joins as the second member of the gibbus group in the northwest Pacific.

  • Two new species of poecilostomatoid copepods associated with echiurans are described from an intertidal mud flat in the Yellow Sea. A new genus Echiuricopus is created to accommodate two new species, E. aprilis and E. tenuipes. Major differences between the two new species are displayed in body length, length of caudal ramus seta I, length/width ratio of leg 5 exopod, and armature of the first antennular segment. Echiuricopus n. gen. is closely related to the genus Goidelia Embleton, 1901, but is distinguished from the latter chiefly by having seven caudal setae, a claw-like process on the first antennular segment, one claw-like process on the maxillary syncoxa, the absence of an inner coxal seta on legs 1-4, different armatures on legs 1-4, and an elongate leg 5 exopod.

  • The present electropalatographic study reports the production of the allophones. i.e., [l] and [r], of Korean tap /r/ and their coarticulatory characteristics in /$C{\'{a}}r#g$/ and /$C{\'{a}}r#i$/ sequences. The finding that tap /r/ involves a complete oral closure with less lingual contact, i.e., apico-frontalveolar coupling. than lateralized /r/ which involves apico-bladealveolar coupling and tongue dorsum lowering for adequate airflow through either side and/or both of the tongue body suggests that the two allophones of the tap /r/ have different lingual gestures. Moreover. in comparison with the tap. the lateral exerts longer lingual contacts. The mean ratio between them is 3.7. In the sequences /Car#g/. the two adjacent antagonistic segments (i.e., /r/ and /g/) show mutual coarticulation effects taking on features of adjacent segment. but either of them is precisely constrained without blocking the formation of involved major lingual gestures for the other segment. In sequences /Car#i/ occurs anticipatory V-to-C coarticulation but not vocalic carryover effects. In both sequences. the allophones reveal insignificant wordinitial consonantal carryover coarticulatory effects and insignificant speaker-specific lingual contacts.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze biomechanical factors and PMT (premotor time) of body muscles between elite college and amateur baseball players during the baseball batting motion. Method: Kinematic and electromyographic data were obtained for 10 elite college baseball players and 10 amateur baseball players who participated in this study. All motion capture data were collected at 200 Hz using 8 VICON cameras and the PMT of muscles was recorded using a Delsys Trigno wireless system. The peak mean bat speed and the peak mean angular velocities of trunk, pelvis, and bat with PMT of 16 body muscles were computed. These kinematic and PMT data of both groups were compared by independent t-tests (p < .05). Results: The pelvis, trunk, and bat showed a sequence of angular velocity value during baseball batting. The PMTs of right tibialis anterior, left gastrocnemius, external oblique, and erector spinae were significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion: The PMT of body muscles was related to the shifting of body and rotation of the pelvis and the trunk segment, and this action can be considered the coordinated muscle activity of the lower and upper body.

  • In order to investigate the morphological characteristics of epididymal duct of the squirrel, the histological and histochemical studies were carried out. The results obtained were summarized as follows: The epididymal duct can be divided into 9 segments by histological and histochemical features. Segments 1 to 5 were located in the head, segments 6 and 7 in the body, and segments 8 and 9 in the tail of the epididymis. The apical cells were numerous in the segment 1. Clear cells which has a compact, deeply staining nucleus and a characteristically clear cytoplasm were scattered in the epithelium throughout the duct. Interepithelial clear cells which had PAS-positive granules tended to increase in number caudally. Strong PAS-positive reaction was detected at the intralumen of the segments 3,8 and 9. Acid phosphatase activity was relatively high in the basal cytoplasm of the segment 7, and then in the supranuclear region of the segments 8 and 9. Alkaline phosphatase activity was weakly positive or negative except the segments 3 and 4. ATPase activity was strong in the free surface of the epithelium in the head and the entire cytoplasm in the body and tail, a,nd SDH activity was generally weak except for the body where it was more intense.

  • Violence in our society, combined with improving transport system, resulted in increased numbers of patients with cardiac wounds reaching the hospital alive. Most patients with penetrating cardiac injury, rather than blunt injury, present with a syndrome of either hemorrhagic shock or cardiac tamponade. And they should be operated upon as soon as possible. Often the atrioventricular valves and other important cardiac structures are also damaged by the penetrating instruments or missile. Both intracardiac communications and atrioventricular fistulas may result in significant left-to-right shunts accompanied by congestive heart failure, necessitating surgical correction. Usually, retained cardiac foreign bodies, which are almost always bullets or fragments of missiles, may lie within a cardiac chamber or in the myocardium. Emboli of bullets or other missiles from distant sites to the right side of the heart are numerous enough to require attention. Recently we experienced a case with intracardiac foreign body due to penetrating cardiac injury. A 19 year-old man was admitted to our hospital due to penetrating anterior chest wound by iron segment. The roentgenogram of the chest revealed a radio-opaque metallic shadow in left lower chest around the cardiac apex, mild blunting of left costophrenic space, but no cardiomegaly. During operation the foreign body was noted to be present in the cardiac chamber by the portable C-arm fluoroscopy. But during the manipulation it moved into left inferior pulmonary vein from left ventricle by way of left atrium. So we could manage to remove it from left inferior pulmonary vein by direct approach to the vein. It was iron segment, sized 0.lcm x0.6cmx0.5cm, with sharp margins. The patient had an uneventful postoperative recovery except for chylopericardium and was discharged.

  • This paper describes a method for vision-based person identification that can detect, track, and recognize person from video using multiple cues: height and dressing colors. The method does not require constrained target's pose or fully frontal face image to identify the person. First, the system, which is connected to a pan-tilt-zoom camera, detects target using motion detection and human cardboard model. The system keeps tracking the moving target while it is trying to identify whether it is a human and identify who it is among the registered persons in the database. To segment the moving target from the background scene, we employ a version of background subtraction technique and some spatial filtering. Once the target is segmented, we then align the target with the generic human cardboard model to verify whether the detected target is a human. If the target is identified as a human, the card board model is also used to segment the body parts to obtain some salient features such as head, torso, and legs. The whole body silhouette is also analyzed to obtain the target's shape information such as height and slimness. We then use these multiple cues (at present, we uses shirt color, trousers color, and body height) to recognize the target using a supervised self-organization process. We preliminary tested the system on a set of 5 subjects with multiple clothes. The recognition rate is 100% if the person is wearing the clothes that were learned before. In case a person wears new dresses the system fail to identify. This means height is not enough to classify persons. We plan to extend the work by adding more cues such as skin color, and face recognition by utilizing the zoom capability of the camera to obtain high resolution view of face; then, evaluate the system with more subjects.
