Background: Body image dissatisfaction among breast cancer survivors has been associated with psychological stress resultant from breast cancer and resultant surgery. This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Malay Version of the Breast-Impact of Treatment Scale (MVBITS) and to investigate the associations of retained factors with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Materials and Methods: The MVBITS was 'forward-backward' translated from English to Malay and then administered to 70 female breast cancer patients who came to the Oncology Clinic of University Malaya Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to undergo chemotherapy. Principal component analysis (PCA) with varimax rotation was performed to explore the factor structure of the MVBITS. Associations of retained factors were estimated with reference to Spearman correlation coefficients. Results: The internal consistency reliability of MVBITS was good (Cronbach's alpha 0.945) and showed temporal stability over a 3-week period. Principal component analysis suggested two factors termed as 'Intrusion' and 'Avoidance' domains. These factors explained 70.3% of the variance. Factor 1 comprised the effects of breast cancer treatment on the emotion and thought, while Factor 2 informed attempts to limit exposure of the body to self or others. The Factor 1 of MVBITS was positively correlated with total, depression and anxiety sub-scores of HADS. Factor 2 was positively correlated with total and anxiety sub-scores of HADS. MVBITS was also positively correlated with the RSES scores. Conclusions: The results showed that the Malay Version of Breast-Impact of Treatment Scale possesses satisfactory psychometric properties suggesting that this instrument is appropriate for assessment of body change stress among female breast cancer patients in Malaysia.
Background: Various interventions have been tested to prevent or treat childhood obesity in South Korea. However, the overall effect of those interventions is unclear, as very few reviews and meta-analyses were specific to Korean children and adolescents. Purpose: We aimed to examine the overall effect of obesity interventions among Korean children and adolescents, while also examining differences by sex, age group, baseline weight category, intervention duration, number of intervention components, and type of intervention components. Methods: A meta-analysis was conducted for all intervention studies sampling Korean children and adolescents, with at least one control group and one month of follow-up, published between January 2000 and August 2020. Cohen d was calculated as an effect size for treatment effect, using the standardized difference between intervention group's body mass index (BMI) change and control group's BMI change. Results: The final sample included 19 intervention studies with 2,140 Korean children (mean age, 12.2 years). Overall, interventions were strongly favored over their controls (d=1.61; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.12-2.09). The subgroup analysis showed that interventions with at least one physical activity component (d=2.43; 95% CI, 1.63-3.24) were significantly better than those that did not include physical activity (d=0.02; 95% CI, -0.26 to 0.31). Conclusion: Type of intervention component appeared important, though no differential association was observed by sex, age, baseline weight category, intervention duration, and number of intervention components. Korean and non-Korean interventions may be substantively different. Additional studies are needed to understand why and how Korean interventions differ from non-Korean interventions.
Heart Rate is a crucial physiological parameter that provides basic information about the state of the human body in the cardiovascular system, as well as in medical diagnostics and fitness assessments. At present day, it has been demonstrated that facial video-based photoplethysmographic signal captured using a low-cost RGB camera is possible to retrieve remote heart rate. Traditional heart rate measurement is mostly obtained by direct contact with the human body, therefore, it can result inconvenient for long-term measurement due to the discomfort that it causes to the subject. In this paper, we propose a non-contact-based remote heart rate measuring approach of the subject which depends on the color intensity variation of the subject's facial skin. The proposed method is applied in two regions of the subject's face, forehead and cheeks. For this, three different algorithms are used to measure the heart rate. i.e., Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The average accuracy for the three algorithms utilizing the proposed method was 89.25% in both regions. It is also noteworthy that the FastICA algorithm showed a higher average accuracy of more than 92% in both regions. The proposed method obtained 1.94% higher average accuracy than the traditional method based on average color value.
In this paper, we develop analysis models for classification of temporal data from human subjects. The study focuses on the analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals obtained during various emotional states. We demonstrate a generally applicable method of removing EOG and EMG artifacts from EEGs based on independent component analysis (ICA). All EEG channel maps were interpolated from 10 EEG subbands. ICA methods are based on the assumptions that the signals recorded on the scalp are mixtures of signals from independent cerebral and artifactual sources, that potentials arising from different parts of the brain, scalp and body are summed linearly at the electrodes and that prop...
The purpose of this study was to consider the bodyshape factor of adult women according to their age groups. Age groups were 20's, the first half of 30's, the last half of 30's, 40's, 50's. Factor analysis was performed and bodyshape factors were abstracted at sight of front and side line of the body. Results indicate that the bodyshape factors were different to each age groups, so, age is very important component to the change of body shape of adult women. A suggestion is when they make standard sizes of women's ready-made clothes, it is important to reflect thier characteristics of body shape according to each age groups and age can be a standard to classify the body types of adult women.
This paper discusses about modeling method to simulate a nonlinear behavior like sliding or rocking of two stacked body system under earthquake condition. A double body system design can be an option to reduce seismic response of a component in comparison to a single body system for free standing structures. Therefore, according to the priority of components, the structure is to be designed by proper ratio of partition in their height for improvement of seismic capability and structural integrity. Nonlinear modeling and analysis using simple rigid body and dynamic system has been performed to check the trend in such cases. As a result, one of the two bodies can be chosen to reduce the seismic response from energy absorption of the other one by appropriate application of friction ratios not only in slip-slip condition but in slip-rock condition.
Research interest on flexible body dynamics, has been increased recently. The major application areas are the auto-mobile, train, and heavy machinery. This paper attempted the dynamic analysis for the variable-gauge wheelset with a flexible body, to better understand the dynamic characteristics of the variable-gauge wheelset. In order to achieve this goal, a 3D-Virtual Mock-up model was built. The tendency of the stress and deformation for the flexible lever was investigated through component mode synthesis, contact mechanics and flexible body dynamics. This study is a pioneering work for the development of Korean type variable-gauge wheelset.
The interior vehicle noise due to the exterior aerodynamic field is an important topic in the acoustic design of a car. The air flow detached from the A-pillar and impacting the side windows are of particular interest as they are located close to the driver / passenger and provides a lower insulation index than the trimmed car body parts. This paper presents a numerical analysis method for a simplified vehicle model. The internal air cavity including trim component are included in the simulation. The car body includes the windshield and two side windows. The body is made of aluminum and trimmed with porous layers. The methodology proposed in this paper relies on two steps: the first step involves the computation of the exterior flow and turbulence induced non-linear acoustic field using CFD Code. The second step consists in the computation of the vibro-acoustic transmission through the window using the finite element vibro-acoustic solver Actran.
The usefulness of the domestic shale contained chiastolite as additive were investigated. Crude mixed minerals were separated into shale and chiastolite. Refractory body added simple component or multiple components as additives was obtained when firing at 125$0^{\circ}C$ for each body. Compressive strength, refractories, apparent sp. gr., water absorption, corrosion test by slag, hot linear expansion were measured and X-ray diffraction analysis was observed. As the result of study, refractory body contained separated minerals as additives showed slightly increasing in refractoriness, lowering in sintering effect, the excellent effect for corrosion resistance by acidic slag. With more containing separated minerals, hot linear expansion for the body can be decreased.
