Hole Filling Algorithm for a Virtual-viewpoint Image by Using a Modified Exemplar Based In-painting

  • In this paper, a new algorithm by using 3D warping technique to effectively fill holes that are produced when creating a virtual-viewpoint image is proposed. A hole is defined as the region that cannot be seen in the reference view when a virtual view is created. In the proposed algorithm, to reduce the blurring effect that occurs on the hole region filled by conventional algorithms and to enhance the texture quality of the generated virtual view, Exemplar Based In-painting algorithm is used. The boundary noise which occurs in the initial virtual view obtained by 3D warping is also removed. After 3D warping, we estimate the relative location of the background to the holes and then pixels adjacent to the background are filled in priority to get better result by not using only adjacent object's information. Also, the temporal inconsistency between frames can be reduced by expanding the search region up to the previous frame when searching for most similar patch. The superiority of the proposed algorithm compared to the existing algorithms can be shown through the experimental results.

  • This paper describes iterative restoration method of restoring blurred images using the LOG compansion function and Conjugate Gradient method. Conventional restoration methods results satisfy the requirement performance for restoring blurred images. but iteration number and convergence velocity increase. This paper proposed an opmtimised iteration restoration method for the images degraded by blurring effect, using the LOG compansion function and Conjugate Gradient method. Here, the LOG compansion function used to improve local properties of the image being restored, made the visual character and convergence velocity of the restored image improved. Throught the simulation results, the author showed that proposed algorithm produced superior performance results by conventional methods.

A Study on the Connection between Nature and Architectural Space in Le Corbusier's Venice Hospital Project

  • Hospital architecture must be planned as a therapeutic space. Numerous studies have proven that exposure to nature has a healing effect. However, research on the architecture itself about this issue is still insufficient. This study analyzed Le Corbusier's Venice hospital project and its architectural configurations with nature. Le Corbusier had been interested in blurring the interior/exterior line to draw nature inside. In his projects, nature was conceived in an abstract sense as "something green." However, in the hospital project, natural elements including vegetation, the lagoon, and light, and the landscape scenery they created, were considered in the harmony of the architectural space. The architectural spaces with courtyards, pilotis, and roof gardens provided views and direct access to nature, and in the interior spaces, the connections to these external spaces and the permeation of views of nature and sunlight were incorporated. Many spaces provided the possibility to actually encounter nature, with a variety of indoor/outdoor space configurations rather than a merely passive placing of some natural elements. This project is considered to be an important reference for contemporary hospital architecture, since the architectural space and nature connected through various spatial configurations also in healthcare programs. As Le Corbusier emphasized, sunlight, vegetation, and also architectural space should be an essential factor in therapeutic hospital architecture planning.

  • With the continuous development of emerging technologies represented by VR technology, many game developers are declaring that they are constantly trying to break the "fourth wall" and break the boundaries between virtual and reality to create game immersion for players. new game. But for many gamers, a strong sense of immersion is not the focus of their pursuit. The sense of control and safe exploration during the game is also the game experience that many gamers are pursuing. Moreover, there is ambiguity in the definition of the concept of breaking the fourth wall in the field of academic theory. The purpose of breaking the fourth wall was to separate the real world from the virtual world, to remind the audience that the actors and the audience are in two different worlds, and to trigger the audience's thinking about drama and deeper philosophy. But in the current game, it has become a blurring of the boundary between virtual and reality, pulling players into the virtual world, and focusing on the immersive experience. Correction for SPECT image distortion by non-circular detection orbits (비원형 궤도에서의 검출에 의한 SPECT 영상 왜곡 보정)

  • The parallel beam SPECT system acquires projection data by using collimators in conjunction with photon detectors. The projection data of the parallel beam SPECT system is, however, blurred by the point response function of the collimator that is used to define the range of directions where photons can be detected. By increasing the number of parallel holes per unit area in collimator, one can reduce such blurring effect. This approach also, however, has the blurring problem if the distance between the object and the collimator becomes large. In this paper we consider correction methods for artifacts caused by non-circular orbit of parallel beam SPECT with many parallel holes per detector cell. To do so, we model the relationship between the object and its projection data as a linear system, and propose an iterative reconstruction method including artifacts correction. We compute the projector and the backprojector, which are required in iterative method, as a sum of convolutions with distance-dependent point response functions instead of matrix form, where those functions are analytically computed from a single function. By doing so, we dramatically reduce the computation time and memory required for the generation of the projector and the backprojector. We conducted several simulation studies to compare the performance of the proposed method with that of conventional Fourier method. The result shows that the proposed method outperforms Fourier methods objectively and subjectively.

  • Purpose : Skip the repetitive HRCT axial scan in order to reduce the exposure of patients during chest HRCT scan, Helical Scan Data into a reconstructed image, and exposure of the patient change and visually evaluate the usefulness of the HRCT images. Materials and method : Patients were enrolled in the survey are 50 people who underwent chest CT scans of patients who presented to the hospital from January 2015 to March 2015. 50 people surveyed 22 people men and 28 people women people showed an average distribution of 30 to 80 years age was 48 years. 50 patients to Somatom Sensation 64 ch (Siemens) model with 120 kVp tube voltage to a reference mAs tube current to mAs (Care dose, Siemens) as a whole, including the lungs and the chest CT scan was performed. Scan upon each patient CARE dose 4D (Automatic exposure control, Siemens Medical Solution Erlangen, Germany) was to maintain the proper radiation dose scan every cross-section through a device that automatically adjusts the tube current of. CT scan is the rotation time of the Tube slice collimation, slice width 0.6 mm, pitch factor was made under the terms of 1.4. CT scan obtained after the raw data (raw data) to the upper surface of the axial images and coronal images for each slice thickness 1 mm, 5 mm intervals in the high spatial frequency calculation method (hight spatial resolution algorithm, B60 sharp) was the use of the lung window center -500 HU, windows were reconstructed into images in the interval -1000 HU to see. Result : 1.   • Since cracks in concrete structures expedite corrosion of reinforced concrete over a long period of time, regular on-site inspections are essential to ensure structural usability and prevent degradation. Most of the safety inspections of facilities rely on visual inspection with naked eye, so cost and time consuming are severe, and the reliability of results differs depending on the inspector. In this study, a portable measuring device that can be used for safety diagnosis and maintenance was developed as a device that measures the width and length of concrete cracks through image analysis of cracks photographed with a camera. This device captures the cracks found within a close distance (3 m), and accurately calculates the unit pixel size by laser distance measurement, and automatically calculates the crack length and width with the image processing algorithm developed in this study. In measurement results using the crack image applied to the experiment, the measurement of the length of a 0.3 mm crack within a distance of 3 m was possible with a range of about 10% error. The crack width showed a tendency to be overestimated by detecting surrounding pixels due to vibration and blurring effect during the binarization process, but it could be effectively corrected by applying the crack width reduction function.

The Integration of Segmentation Based Environment Models from Multiple Images (다중 영상으로부터 생성된 분할 기반 환경 모델들의 통합)

  • This paper introduces segmentation based environment modeling method and integration method using multiple environment map for constructing the realtime image-based panoramic navigation system. The segmentation-based environment modeling method is easy to implement on the environment map and can be used for environment modeling by extracting the depth value by the segmentation of the environment map. However, an environment model that is constructed using a single environment map has the problem of a blurring effect caused by the fixed resolution, and the stretching effect of the 3D model caused when information that does not exist on the environment map occurs due to the occlusion. In this paper, we suggest environment models integration method using multiple environment map to resolve the above problem. This method can express parallax effect and expand the environment model to express wide range of environment. The segmentation-based environment modeling method using multiple environment map can build a detail model with optimal resolution.

  • This paper has for its object to propose AFOD(Adaptive First-Order Decimator) which sets a value of decimated element as an average of a value of neighbor intelligible component and a output value of FOD(First-Order Decimator) for the target pixel, and to analyze its performance in terms of subjective image quality and hardware complexity. In the proposed AFOD, a target pixel located at the center of sliding window is selected first, then the gradient amplitudes of its right neighbor pixel and its lower neighbor pixel are calculated using first order derivative operator respectively. Secondly, each gradient amplitude is divided by the summation result of two gradient amplitudes to generate each local intelligible weight. Next, a value of neighbor intelligible component is defined by adding a value of the right neighbor pixel times its local intelligible weight to a value of the lower neighbor pixel times its intelligible weight. Since the proposed method adaptively reflects neighbor intelligible informations of neighbor pixels on the decimated element according to each local intelligible weight, it can effectively suppress the blurring effect being the demerit of FOD. It also possesses the advantages that it can keep the merits of FOD with the good results on average but also lower computational cost.

Using Bayesian Approaches to Reduce Truncation Artifact in Magnetic Resonance Imaging

  • In Fourier magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the number of phase encoded signals is often reduced to minimize the duration of the studies and maintain adequate signal-to-noise ratio. However, this results in the well-known truncation artifact, whose effect manifests itself as blurring and ringing in the image domain. In this paper, we propose a new regularization method in the context of a Bayesian framework to reduce truncation artifact. Since the truncation artifact appears in t도 phase direction only, the use of conventional piecewise-smoothness constraints with symmetric neighbors may result in the loss of small details and soft edge structures in the read direction. Here, we propose more elaborate forms of constraints than the conventional piecewise-smoothness constraints, which can capture actual spatial information about the MR images. Our experimental results indicate that the proposed method not only reduces the truncation artifact, but also improves tissue regularity and boundary definition without oversmoothing soft edge regions.
