A chinical analysis was performed on 383 ases of hest injurjes eperienced at Department of thoraci Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital during 21 year period From 1957 to 1977. Of 383 patients o hest injuries, 209 cases were result from nonpenetrating injuries whereas 175 were from penetrating injuries, and there were 258 cases of hemothorax or/and pneumothorax, 162 of rib fracture, 33 of foreign body, 26 of clavicle frcture, 26 of lung contusion, 17 of diaphragmati laceration, 14 of hemoperiardium, 14 of flail chest and others. Stab wound was the most common in penetrating injuries and followed by gunshot and shell fragments. The majority of nonpenetrating chest injury paiens were traffi accident vitims and falls accounted for the next largest group of accidents. Chest injuries were frequently encountered in the age group between 16 and 50 years, and 321 patients were male comparing to 62 of female. In blunt hest injuries the patients with five or more rib fractures had a 85 per ent incidence of intrathoracic injury and 19 per cent had an intraabdominal organ damage, whereas those with four or less rib fractures had a 69 per cent and a 6 per cent incidence respectively. The principal associated injuries were cerebral contusion on 19 cases, renal contusion on 10, liver laceration on 7, peripheral vessel laceration on 5, spleen laceration on 3 and extremity fracture on 18 patients. The principles of therapy for early complications of chest trauma were rapid reexpansion of the lungs by thoracentesis (46 cases) and closed thoracotomy (125 cases) but open thoracotomy had to be done on 90 cases (23.5%) because of massive bleeding or intrapleural hematoma, foreign body, cardiac injury, diaphragmatic laceration and bronhial rupture. The over all mortality was 2.87 per cent (11 among 383 cases), 8 cases were from penetrating injuries and 3 from nonpenetrating injuries.

In Korea, cases of direct insertion of foreign bodies into the rectum are rare in the literature. Most cases of rectal insertion of foreign bodies are associated with sexual acts and psychiatric disorder such as schizophrenia. Objects inserted into the anus are usually blunt and shaped like the male genitalia. The removal method can be varied depending on the size and shape of the foreign object, its anatomical location, and the accompanying complications. In cases wherein attempts to remove the object fail or there are rectal perforation and peritonitis complications, immediate laparotomy may be required in order to prevent serious complications such as sepsis. Here, we report on a case of rectal perforation and peritonitis due to insertion of a foreign body in a middle-aged patient, with a literature review. He inserted a sharp pig backbone in his rectum and he only had depression. The patient underwent a Hartmann's operation as well as psychiatric counseling and treatment. Thus, after removal of foreign bodies, psychiatric counseling and treatment should be carried out in order to prevent similar accidents and to minimize the need for trauma medicine.

In this study, the numerical analysis for the flows around an axial cylinder is carried out in order to investigate the basic characteristics of drag of blunt body. A variation of drag and flow separation for the axial cylinder is investigated according to the length-diameter ratio. Also, the flow separation around the head is removed by rounding-off the front edge of the body to analyze the effect of drag reduction. Most of the drag turns out to be a pressure drag component and the variation of drag is caused by the change of pressure and velocity which is affected strongly by the flow separation at the edges of the axial cylinder. Especially, it is found that the pressure drag component acting on the back of axial cylinder, as known as the base drag, mainly changes the drag. As the length-diameter ratio of axial cylinder increases, the drag sharply decreases and the minimum is shown when the length-diameter ratio is about 2.4. Also, as the length-diameter ratio increases further above 2.4, the drag increases at a slower rate. The pressure drag is almost constant when the length-diameter ratio is greater than 8, but the increase of friction drag component is the reason for the increase of the drag. When flow separation is removed completely at the front edge of the axial cylinder, the pressure drag component is reduced to 12~17%, but the total drag is reduced to only 17%~32% due to the friction drag component that increases linearly proportional to the length-diameter ratio.
Purpose: Although trauma is the most common cause of death under age 18, Korean national pediatric trauma data has lack of clinical data. This study is to prepare manpower resources, equipment, and make a correct policy decision on pediatric trauma victims Methods: The study enrolled 528 patients under age 16 with traumatic injury visited Wonju Severance Christian Hostpital Trauma Center, from February 12, 2015 to December 31, 2016. We analyzed the distribution of gender, age, place and time of the accident, injury mechanism, injury severity, and injured organ by medical record. Results: The major injury mechanisms were blunt injury in 485 (91.90%), penetrating injury in 27 (5.10%), burn in 13 (2.50%), near drowning in 2 (0.40%), and foreign body ingestion in 1 (0.20%). Ninety-seven (18.4%) patients were injured at home and 67 (12.7%) patients were injured at school. The overall mortality rate was 1.13% (n=6). 5 mortalities were related to automobile accident and one was fall down. Mean Injury Severity Score (ISS) was 4 (2, 8). No statistical significance was observed in the mean ISS between each age group. The peak time of accident occurrence was between 16 and 17 o'clock. The mean ISS was higher in blunt injury group than penetrating injury with statistical significance ($6.50{\pm}7.60$ vs. $3.00{\pm}8.10$; p<0.05). The most common injury site was upper extremity. Mean ISS was highest in thorax injury. However, mean ISS of thorax injury was higher with statistical significance only compared with face, neck and upper extremity injury. Conclusions: We reported our pediatric trauma patients data of our hospital level I trauma center, which is the only one level I trauma center of Gangwon Province. These data is useful to prevent and prepare for pediatric trauma.
Diploscapter coronatus (Cobb, 1893) Cobb, 1913 was first reported on oriental melon (Cucumis melo vars. makuwa Makino) roots from plastic film houses, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Andong, Korea (latitude $N36^{\circ}33^{\prime}$. longitude $E128^{\circ}29^{\prime}$). Diploscapter coronatus is most similar to D. pachys. Species in the genus Diploscapter have a visibly annulated cuticle. The stoma of D. coronatus is 1.5 times longer than the lip region width. The pharyngeal corpus is clearly separated from the isthmus and the vulva is situated around the mid-body. However, it differed by higher ratio of "a", filiform tail and had relatively blunt labial hooks. The Korean population is well matched and within the range of D. coronatus as described from Iran and Ethiopia in de Man's of L, b, c, c', and V. Female length, however, varied between populations: the Ethiopia population female length is longer than in the Korea population (396.4 vs 427.0) while females in the Iran population are smaller than in the Korea population (396.4 vs 350.0). Nematode size may vary due to environmental conditions such as food sources. The position of excretory pores in the Korean population were shorter 53.9-72.5 than in other populations (67-82 and 70-89). Males were uncommon. Males in the Korean population are smaller than females but larger(356.0) than males in the Indian population (306.0).

Myofibroma is a rare spindle cell neoplasm that consists of myofibroblsasts. Although it was originally described as a multicentric tumor process affecting infants and young children, it is now recognized that most cases of the tumor are soliatary and that it can occur at any age. This case is a myofibroma involving the right mandibular body in a 9-year-old boy. Radiographic examination revealed a relatively well-demarcated radiolucent lesion surrounding the impacted right mandibular canine and first premolar crown. The histologic sections composed of interlacing bundles of spindle cells with tapered or blunt-ended nuclei admixed with a foci of hemangiopericytoma-like appearance. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated a positive reaction to vimentin and smooth muscle actin, but they are negative for desmin and S-100. The presence of well circumscribed radiolucent solid lesion in children as observed in this case, differential diagnosis of myofibroma must be included. In this case, there was no recurrence 6 months after enucleation and eruption guide of the impacted tooth is ongoing now.

Since Voyager 1 passed the Heliopause in 2012, it has provided the observations of the charged particles in the local interstellar medium. However, Voyager 1 only provides the information along with its trajectory. In order to understand the global view of the interstellar plasma flow surrounding the Heliopause, we need another tool. When the interstellar plasmas approach the Heliopause, the ions are deflected around the Heliopause due to the draping of the interstellar magnetic field. The draping of the interstellar magnetic field is strongly connected with the shape of the Heliopause. A fraction of the diverted ions exchanges their charges with the undisturbed primary interstellar neutral atoms, and then the ions become neutral atoms called the secondary interstellar neutral atoms. The newly created neutral atoms carry information on the diverted flow of the interstellar ions, and a fraction of them can travel to the Sun. Therefore, the secondary component of the interstellar neutrals is an excellent diagnostic tool to provide important information to constrain the shape of the Heliopause. The secondary interstellar neutrals are observed by Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) at Earth's orbit. Since 2009, two energetic neutral atom cameras on IBEX have measured neutral atoms and it has provided sky maps of neutral atoms. In this presentation, we will discuss the directional distribution of the secondary interstellar neutrals at Earth's orbit. In the sky maps, the primary interstellar neutral gas is seen between $200^{\circ}$ and $260^{\circ}$ in ecliptic longitude and the secondary components are seen in the longitude range of $160^{\circ}-200^{\circ}$. We also present a simplified model of the outer heliosheath to help interpret the observations of interstellar neutrals by the IBEX-Lo instruments. We extract information on the large-scale shape of the Heliopause by comparing the neutral flux measured at IBEX along four different look directions with simple models of deflected plasma flow around hypothetical obstacles of different aspect ratios to the flow. Our comparisons between the model results and the observations indicate that the Heliopause is very blunt in the vicinity of the Heliospheric nose, especially compared to a Rankine half-body or cometary shape.

The study of nonlinear gas transport in rarefied condition or associated with the microscale length of the geometry has emerged as an interesting topic in recent years. Along with the DSMC method, several fluid dynamic models that come under the general category of the moment method or the Chapman-Enskog method have been used for this type of problem. In the present study, on the basis of Eu's generalized hydrodynamics, computational models for diatomic gases are developed. The rotational nonequilibrium effect is included by introducing excess normal stress associated with the bulk viscosity of the gas. The new models are applied to study the one-dimensional shock structure and the multi-dimensional rarefied hypersonic flow about a blunt body. The results indicate that the bulk viscosity plays a considerable role in fundamental flow problems such as the shock structure and shear flow. An excellent agreement with experiment is observed for the inverse shock density thickness.

This paper is to compare by numerical analysis the flow characteristics and propulsion performance of stern with the shape change of K-duct, a pre-swirl duct developed by Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO). First, the characteristics of the propeller and the resistance and self-propulsion before and after the attachment of the K-duct to the ship were verified and the validity of the calculation method was confirmed by comparing this result with the model test results. After that, resistance and self-propulsion calculations were performed by the same numerical method when the K-duct was changed into five different shapes. The efficiency of the other five cases was compared using the delivery horsepower in the model scale and the flow characteristics of the stern were analyzed as the velocity and pressure distributions in the area between the duct end and the propeller plane. For the computation, STAR-CCM +, a general-purpose flow analysis program, was used and the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations were applied. Rigid Body Motion (RBM) method was used for the propeller rotating motion and SST $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model was applied for the turbulence model. As a result, the tangential velocity of the propeller inflow changed according to the position angle change of the stator, and the pressure of the propeller hub and the cap changes. This regulated the propeller hub vortex. It was confirmed that the vortex of the portion where the fixed blade and the duct meet was reduced by blunt change.
