  • A cDNA clone for the olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) transferrin receptor (fTfR) was isolated from a leukocytes cDNA library. The fTfR gene consisted of 2,319 bp encoding 773 amino acid residues. The amino acid sequence alignment of the fTfR showed that their size and hydrophobic profile are similar. In addition, the Tyr-Thr-Arg-Phe (YTRF) motif that is the recognition signal for high-efficiency endocytosis, is conserved very well. This motif is important for functional properties of TfR. The deduced amino acid sequence had $42.4-42.9\%$ identities with the previously reported TfRs of vertebrates. The fTfR was expressed in the blood, kidney, spleen, and liver of healthy olive flounder by the Northern blot hybridization.

  • Biological determination of Pivampicillin hydrochloride was examined and an available method has been established. Unhydrolyzed Pivampicillin hydrochloride has no antibacterial activity, but it exhibits an antibacterial activity hydrolyzed with liberation of ampicillin by nonspecific enzymes present in blood and tissues from various species in vitro and in vivo. Using these properties, Pivampicillin hydrochloride can be determined as ampicillin by use of an agar-diffusion method with Bacillus subtilis as the assay organism.

  • This paper proposes a new contour detection method and adaptive reconstruction scheme for the cylindrical organs, such as blood vessels or arteries. Furthermore, we present java-based navigation controller which has been built to examine the inside of cylindrical objects. Tn the preprocessing procedure, a few preprocessing image filters are applied in order to remove unwanted artifacts from the medical images and to estimate threshold values for the object of interest. We define a context-free grammar, which is proper fur properties of contours of cylindrical objects. In the next procedure, we extract contours using advanced radial gradient method and represent contours as context-free grammar derivation trees. We build polygons between two contours efficiently by traversing the derivations trees of the contours. We fly through the reconstructed virtual models using java-based navigation controller and VRML viewer.

  • Energy harvesting technologies converting external sources (such as thermal energy, vibration and mechanical energy from the nature sources of wind, waves or animal movements) into electrical energy is recently a highly demanding issue in the materials science community for making sustainable green environments. In particular, fabrication of usable nanogenerator attract the attention of many researchers because it can scavenge even the biomechanical energy inside the human body (such as heart beat, blood flow, muscle stretching, or eye blinking) by converging harvesting technology with implantable bio-devices. Herein, we describe procedure suitable for generating and printing a lead-free microstructured $BaTiO_3$ thin film nanogenerator on plastic substrates to overcome limitations appeared in conventional flexible ferroelectric devices. Flexible $BaTiO_3$ thin film nanogenerator was fabricated and the piezoelectric properties and mechanically stability of ferroelectric devices were characterized. From the results, we demonstrate the highly efficient and stable performance of $BaTiO_3$ thin film nanogenerator and the integration of bio-eco-compatible ferroelectric materials may enable innovative opportunities for artificial skin and energy harvesting system.

  • Grewia tiliaefolia is commonly used in India and several other countries for its ethnomedical properties. The antioxidant effect of 50% methanol extract of Grewia tiliaefolia bark was investigated by in-vitro and in-vivo methods. The extract exhibited $IC_{50}$ value of $51.40{\pm}3.98\;{\mu}g/ml$ in DPPH assay. In the in vivo experiments, the treatment was given at 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight doses orally for seven days and catalase, SOD, TBA-RS and ascorbic acid levels were estimated. Both the doses caused a significant increase in the levels of catalase in the liver and kidney, and SOD in the liver, kidney and blood serum. A significant decrease in the level of TBARS was also observed. These results suggest potent antioxidant nature of the extract.

  • Aspalatone [3-(2-methyl-4proponyl)]-2-acetyloxybenzoate, CAS 147249-33-0) is a compound having an antithrombotic action. General pharmacological properties of aspalatone were studied. Aspalatone had no effect on central nervous system and no anticonvulsant effect up to 1200 mg/kg p.o. However, the compound has hypothermic and analgesic effect. When administered intravenously in rabbits, aspalatone did not affect blood pressure, heat rate and respiration rate and depth, and it did not inhibit transient hypotensive effect of acetylcholine. The compound did not affect isolated guinea-pig ileum and tracheal strip at a concentration of 1${\times}$$10^{-4}$, and did not inhibit histamine-induced contraction of guinea-pig ileum. It also did not affect isolated rat stomach fundus and estrogenated rat uterus at 1${\times}$$10^{-4}$, and did not inhibit contraction produced by acetylcholine or oxytocin. The pupil size and intestinal propulsion were not influenced at a large dose of was shown. The compound showed a slight increase in urine volume and led to decreased excretion of potassium in urine of rats. The results suggest that aspalatone may have no considerable adverse effects in general pharmacological aspect.

  • The genus Polygonatum species belongs to the family Liliaceae which is widely distributed over areas of the north temperature zone. There are about forty more plants of Polygonatum species in the world widely distributed in eastern Europe and south east Asia. The plants of Polygonatum species have been used not only as ornamental plants but also for their medicinal values. This article is concerned with the specific properties and flavour of the drug and its history as a medicine, showing the main functional components of Polygonatum species of flavonoids, steroidal glycosides, and saccharides.

  • We synthesized eight G8 molecular transporters (MTs) based on 4 different monosaccharide scaffolds, and studied their biological properties with a special focus on possible mitochondrial targeting and tissue selectivity. The mitochondrial affinity of these MTs was found to be clearly related to the scaffold stereochemistry and also tenuously with the lipophilicity. It may be suggested that in the practical delivery strategy of drugs for the brain and mitochondrial diseases the BBB permeability and mitochondrial affinity should be considered as key parameters, and that an enhanced mitochondrial affinity appears possible by further research on the structure-property relationship of guanidine-rich molecular transporters.

  • To improve the biofunctional properties of silk fibroin membranes, 2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl-2-(trimethylammonium)ethyl phosphate(MTP), which is a methacrylate with phospholipid polar groups grafted and poly(MTP-co-BMA) was coated on the surface of silk fibroin membranes. The permeability and biocompatibility of silk fibroin membranes with phosphoryl choline group were investigated. The permeability of a salt(NaCl) was increased with grafting by MTP. Futhermore, the poly(MTP-co-BMA)-coated silk fibroin membranes displayed less blood cell adhesion than the silk fibroin membranes.

  • A new cephalosporin derivative, cefoperazone phthalidyl ester, were synthesized and investigated in terms of dissolution and absorption properties. In comparison with cefoperazone, its phthalidyl ester showed the following characteristics. The mean dissolution time and variance of retention time were more significantly prolonged in simulated intestinal fluid than those in simulated gastric fluid. After a single oral dosing of both cefoperazone and its ester to rabbits, serum concentrations of cefoperazone were measured by bioassay, and the results showed that the ester exhibited much higher and more sustained blood level than the parent drug. The total area under the curve of cefoperazone phthalidyl ester were 10.8 times greater than that of cefoperazone.
