  • A blog is a personal website where its owner publishes his/her articles for others. A blog can have relationships with other blogs. In this paper, we define a network that is composed of blogs connected together with such relationships as a blog network. Blog networks can have two different propensities characterized by the articles published in the blogs: information-valued propensity and friendship-valued propensity. The degree of each propensity of a blog network plays an important role in deciding business policies for blog networks. In this paper, we address the problem of determining the degrees of two propensities of a given blog network. First, we determine the degree of the propensity of every relationship, a basic unit of a blog network, by using classification that is one of data mining functionalities. Then, by utilizing the result thus obtained, we compute the degrees of two propensities of the whole blog network. Also, we propose a method to solve the problem that the degree of propensities depends on the size of blog networks. To verify the superiority of the proposed approach, we perform extensive experiments using a huge volume of real-world blog data. The results show that our approach provides high accuracy of around 93% in determining the degrees of both propensities of relationships between arbitrary two blogs. We also verify the applicability of the proposed approach by showing that if determines the degrees of the information-valued and friendship-valued propensities correctly in real-world blog networks.

  • Blog is a new global phenomenon, but many research papers about organizational blog have not been shown. In this study the influencing factors of the organizational blog usage are empirically investigated, and several guidelines are suggested to IT professionals who involves the design and implementation of the organizational blog. The research model consists of seven independent variables, one dependent variable, and two moderating variables. The following variables are established as the independent variables; information, interface, service, communication, enjoy, performance expectation, and social influence. Two dimensions such as need and orientation are suggested for the moderating variables, and the actual usage is adopted as a dependent variable. As a result of multiple regression analysis using a stepwise method, the independent variables except for interface and communication affect the actual usage of organizational blogs. The moderating effects for need and orientation are partially supported. The implications of this study are as the followings; (1) The empirical factors affecting the usage of organizational blogs are empirically investigated, (2) The affecting factors vary according to the type of organizational blogs, and (3) Some guidelines are suggested for organizational blog's design.

  • Blogs are a new type of media that have recently become popular on the World Wide Web and have influence throughout society. The purpose of this study is to examine social motivations influencing intention of blog usage. Based on Technology Acceptance Model and Motivation Theory, this study considered perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, reputation, reciprocity, enjoyment of helping, social identity as the determinants of influencing the intention to use of blog. The suggested model was empirically evaluated using online survey data collection from 342 users of popular blog site in Korea (NAVER Blog, Cyworld minihompy, Daum Blog, and Yahoo Blog). The results revealed that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, reciprocity, and social identity affect directly the intention of blog usage. Furthermore, social identity has moderate effect via reciprocity and enjoyment of helping on blog usage. This study contributes to a theoretical understanding of the factors as social motivation that affects the usage of blogs. Also, the results of this study provide blog service providers useful strategic insights and service guidelines to enhance user's intention of blogs practically.

  • BIog services have been developed in 5 years and also many companies have introduced many kinds of blog services as well. It is expected that the blog services will grow continuously. As the number of blog users is growing rapidly, the blogs progressively exert their influences on our society and are directly connected to the success or the failure of the portal site businesses. Thus it is necessary to investigate users' motivation to use blog and to predict their intention of continuous uses of the blog. Specifically, this study is to focus on user's motivation and user's psychological status in using the blogs. Furthermore, this study explores their causal relationships. The study tries to investigate what motivations make users to use the blogs on the regular basis. Its results show that two motivation factors, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors, significantly affect user's flow experiences and the flow experiences affect general use of the blogs.

  • As a new community forming environment, the blog platform enables sharing of the resources in blogosphere through active information exchange. Many researches have been performed to recommend appropriate resources to users from vast amounts of blog resources. As one of the solutions OSEM defines the knowledge base in the blogosphere with ontology for effectively modeling it. In this paper, we propose a technique of converting the knowledge base into the OWL ontology for sharing it on the semantic web environment. An inference method is then applied to the OWL ontology for recommending interest blog communities. For this aim, a mapping method is offered and then SWRL inference and SPARQL query based on the ontology are employed to extract interest blog communities.

  • The purpose of this research is to suggest the direction of using blog in e-PBL. In this research we used blog for supporting individual self-regulated learning activity. We distributed space for individual learning and collaborative learning by using blog and community. 39 students participated during the 16 weeks, which includes 8 weeks of traditional e-PBL and 8 weeks of Blog based e-PBL. We conducted questionnaires and interviews, and analyzed learners' reflection notes. Data show learners feel comfortable with using blog in their independent learning activity. And blog activated learners' reflective activity and motivated their self-regulated learning.

  • Recently, on-line social network has been increasing according to development of internet. The most representative service is blog. A Blog is a type of personal web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary. These blogs are related to each other, and it is called Blog Network in this paper. In a blog network, posts in a blog can be diffused to other blogs. Analyzing information diffusion in a blog world is a very useful research issue, which can be used for predicting information diffusion, abnormally detection, marketing, and revitalizing the blog world. Existing studies on network analysis have no consideration for the passage of time and these approaches can only measure network activity for a node by the number of direct connections that a given node has. As one solution, this paper suggests the new method of measuring the blog network activity using logistic curve model and Cosine-similarity in key words by the Map/Reduce programming model.

  • With an exponential growth of blogs, lots of important data have appeared on blogs. However, since main topics mentioned in blog pages are quite different from general web pages, there are problems which can't be solved by general search engines. Therefore, many researchers have studied searching methods only for blogs to help users who want to have useful information on blog. We also present a blog classifying method based on similarity of titles. First, we analyze blogs and blog search engines to find problems and solution of current blog search. Second, applying our similarity algorithm on blog titles, we discuss a way to develop clustering method only for blog. Finally, by making a prototype system of our algorithm, we evaluate our algorithm's effectiveness and show conclusion and future work. We expect this algorithm could add its power to current search engine.

  • This paper proposes a framework for personal location based services with personal life content, for example diaries, schedules and to-do lists. A lot of Internet users are recording their personal experiences and knowledge as text and other digital media on the network. Our proposed tool provides users with an environment to store personal records with related place attributes, and to retrieve these personal records at the right place. There are two applications on this tool, a place-enhanced blog and a LBS client on a mobile phone. The place enhanced blog provides users with blog interfaces for inputting place information. The place rem inder is a browser for spatial data on the place enhanced blog. Users can generate place information by writing personal records on their blog. Furthermore, using the LBS client, other users can retrieve personal records at the appropriate spots.
