Effects of Feeding Wastes from Brassica Species on Growth of Goats and Pesticide/Insecticide Residues in Goat Meat

  • The effects of feeding Brassica vegetable market wastes on intake, body weight changes and pesticide/insecticide residues in products of goats were evaluated in two experiments. In the first experiment (Exp. 1) 16 goats (Bach Thao, 9 to 10 kg, 3 months old, 9 males and 7 females) were fed four diets with leaves either from cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata), cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) or Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris subsp. pekinensis) with 30% of Para grass. The control group was fed 100% Para grass. All diets contained soybean waste as a supplement and the experiment lasted for 136 days. In the second experiment (Exp. 2) 24 goats (Bach Thao, 12 to 14 kg, all males) were assigned to three treatments in a completely randomised block design based on initial body weight. The goats were fed cabbage waste supplemented with 200 g or 100 g DM (dry matter) of concentrate. Para grass with 100 g DM concentrate supplementation was used as a control group. The experiment lasted for 90 days and at the end of the study, 12 goats were slaughtered for pesticide/insecticide analysis. Due to low DM content (5.3 and 3.7%, respectively) feed intakes of cabbage and Chinese cabbage groups were lower than those of other groups in the experiment. The highest feed intake and body weight gain was obtained when the goats were fed cauliflower (529 g DM/day and 87.5 g/day, respectively). In Exp. 2 total intake of cabbage and concentrate was similar (484 g and 453 g DM/day) whether the goats were fed 100 or 200 g concentrate/day but lower than that of Para grass and concentrate probably due to the low DM content of the cabbage (5.9%). Crude protein intake (79 g to 86 g/day) and body weight gain (70 g to 88 g/day) was not significantly different between treatments. Adding concentrate consequently resulted in higher DM intake than in Exp. 1 but did not result in any higher growth rate. Three of the pesticide/insecticide residues tested were found in cabbage, Alpha-Cypermethrin, Bassa-Fenobucarb and Dimethoate with levels of 0.175, 0.074 and 0.028 mg/kg fresh cabbage respectively. Weight of livers from goats fed cabbage was about 90 g higher than from goats fed Para grass but no pesticide/herbicide residues were found in meat or liver.

비엠 활성수 플랜트의 공정제어기 설계 및 구현 (A Design and Implementation of Process Controller for BMW (Bacteria Mineral Water) Plant)

  • 본 논문에서는 BM 활성수를 생산하는 BM 활성수 플랜트 공정 제어시스템 모델을 제안하고, 다음과 같은 기능을 가진 BM 활성수 플랜트 공정 제어기를 개발 하였다. 첫 번째 기능으로는 먼저 부로와가 과부하가 걸렸을 때, 과전류 감지기가 동작하여 일정시간 부로와를 정지시킨 후 재 기동 하도록 하였다. 두 번째는 정전시 유도조에서 퇴비투입조로의 순환을 막기 위해 전동밸브가 정전시 자동으로 닫히는 기능을 부가함으로서 볼밸브의 고장으로 인한 퇴비투입조의 누수를 막을 수 있다. 세 번째는 생산된 활성수를 농축조에서 4개의 저장조로 자동으로 이송할 수 있는 기능을 부가하여 활성수 생산량을 자동 관리 하였다. 그리고 BM 활성수 플랜트 공정제어기 신호측정 시험장치를 개발하여 제작한 BM 활성수 플랜트 공정 제어기가 설계한 사양대로 잘 동작하는지 확인 하였다. 본 연구는 BM 활성수 플랜트 공정제어기를 견실한 저가의 시퀀서 제어방식 기반의 공정 제어기를 개발하여 시스템의 안정성과 효율성의 향상 및 운전관리 비용의 절감을 꾀할 수 있으리라 기대된다.

Effects of Extrusion Condition of Barley on the Growth and Nutrient Utilization in Growing Pigs

  • To study the effects of different extrusion conditions of barley on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and nutrient excretion in feces, a total of 150 growing pigs ($Landrace{\times}Duroc{\times}Large$ White; average 24.4 kg body weight) were allotted to five treatments, in a completely randomized block design. The experimental diets were based on corn-soybean and 30% of barley was included in each diet; barley was the only extruded ingredient. The treatments were 1) no extrusion (Control); 2) extrusion at $100^{\circ}C$ without preconditioning (ENLT); 3) extrusion at $150^{\circ}C$ without preconditioning (ENHT); 4) extrusion at $100^{\circ}C$ with preconditioning (ECLT); 5) extrusion at $150^{\circ}C$ with preconditioning (ECHT). Temperature in the barrel was controlled within ${\pm}5^{\circ}C$ by feed rate with the addition of water at the rate of $3{\ell}\;per\;min$. in the extruder for each treatment. For the 6 week experimental period, extrusion of barley improved the average daily gain (ADG) and digestibilities of dry matter, crude protein and gross energy in growing pigs. As compared to control, significant improvements in ADG (p<0.05) were shown in the groups of feeding extruded barley at high temperature (ENHT and ECHT). There were also significant differences in the digestibilities of DM, CP and P between extrusion temperatures. Barley extruded at high temperature gave better digestibilities of DM, CP and GE than barley extruded at low temperature. Extruded barley diet groups showed significantly (p<0.05) lower excretions of DM, nitrogen (N) and P per kg gain as compared to the ground barley group. DM, N and P excretion per kg gain were also significantly lower in pigs fed barley extruded at $150^{\circ}C$ than at $100^{\circ}C$. In conclusion, extrusion considerably improved the nutritive value of barley and it appeared that temperature is the most important variable.

Effects of Surface-Applied Dairy Slurry on Herbage Yield and Stand Persistence: II. Alfalfa, Orchardgrass, Tall Fescue and Alfalfa-Orchardgrass

  • The first paper of this series compared the effects of rates and frequencies of application of dairy slurry on herbage yields and stand persistence of orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.), reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea L.), and alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.)-grass mixtures managed as a 4-cutting system. This paper compares the effects of rates and frequencies of application of dairy slurry on herbage yield and stand persistence of alfalfa, orchardgrass, tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), and alfalfa-orchardgrass mixture managed as a 5-cutting system. The results presented here are part of a larger study having a primary objective of comparing alfalfa, various grasses, and alfalfa-grass mixtures for utilizing nutrients from dairy slurry applied to established stands. A randomized complete block design with treatments in a split plot arrangement with four replicates was used. The main plots consisted of 9 fertility treatments: 7 slurry rate and frequency of application treatments, one inorganic fertilizer treatment, and an unfertilized control. The sub-plots were the forage species. Manure used for the study was composed from stored solids scraped from the alleyways of a free-stall dairy barn. Water was added to from a slurry having about 8 % solids. Slurry was pumped from the liquid spreader tank into 10.4 L garden watering cans for manual application to the plots. Herbage yields of alfalfa, tall fescue, and alfalfa-orchardgrass were generally not affected by slurry application rates and were not significantly different from the inorganic fertilizer treatment. Tall fescue significantly outyielded all other forage species at all manure and the inorganic fertilizer treatments in the second year when rainfall during the growing season was unusually high. Grasses generally had a greater response to manure applications than alfalfa and alfalfa-orchardgrass. Increasing rates of manure did not increase herbage yields of alfalfa and alfalfa-orchardgrass. Herbage yields within each species were not affected by frequency of application of the same total rate. Stand ratings of alfalfa, orcahrdgrass and alfalfa-orchardgrass were significantly lower for the very high manure application rate compared to the control treatment. Based upon the results of this study, multiple annual applications of slurry manure can be made onto these species at rates up to $1,700kg\;total\;N\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$ without detrimental effects on herbage yield and stand persistence.

가는돌고기(Pseudopuntungia tenuicorpa) 보전을 위한 유전적 다양성 연구 (Genetic Diversity of the Slender Shinner(Pseudopuntungia tenuicorpa) and Its Conservational Implications)

  • 가는돌고기(Pseudopungtungia tenuicorpa)는 8~10 cm 크기의 소형 잉어과 어류로 전 세계에서 한국의 한강 그리고 임진강에만 서식하는 멸종위기종이다. 가는돌고기는 국내 담수의 상위 포식자 중 하나인 꺽지 수컷이 돌보는 수정된 알이 있는 둥지에 탁란(brood parasitism)을 하거나 작은 바위에 생긴 틈에 산란을 하는 생식 행동을 보인다. 이 종의 특이한 생식 생태는 환경 파괴가 극심한 현대 사회에서 산란 장소를 더욱 제한할 가능성이 높아 특별한 관리와 보전 전략이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 microsatellites와 mtDNA control region 유전자를 이용하여 가는돌고기의 종 보전 관리 전략에 필요한 개체군 수준의 유전적 다양성 등 기초자료를 확보하고자 하였다. 유전체 분석에서 얻어진 28개의 microsatellite 유전자들을 이용하여 한강의 3지역에서 채집된 67개체들의 유전자형을 밝혔다. 본 microsatellite 유전자 분석 결과, 가는돌고기는 일반적으로 알려진 담수어류의 microsatellite 다양성 정도를 훨씬 뛰어 넘는 높은 유전적 다양성을 보여주었고(평균 이형접합자 빈도 예측치=0.914; 유전자 당 평균 대립 인자 빈도=27.9), 개체군 감소나 inbreeding의 흔적은 나타나지 않았다. 그러나 북한강과 남한강 사이의 유전적 분화가 두드러졌다. 이런 유전적 구조는 14개 haplotype이 발견된 mtDNA 분석 결과에서도 유사하게 나타났다. 매우 좁은 지역에 서식하는 고유 멸종위기종에서 유전자 흐름의 제한 가능성이 나타났기 때문에, 장기적 측면에서 개체군들의 크기에 대한 고민이 필요하다. 추후 적응 유전적 분석 결과에서도 유사한 결과가 나타난다면, 북한강과 남한강 개체군들은 별도 관리가 이루어져야 하며, 복원 계획에도 이러한 유전적 구조에 대한 검토가 수반되어야 할 것이다.

Effect of choline chloride supplementation on milk production and milk composition of Etawah grade goats

  • Background: The effect of choline chloride supplementation through forced drinking combined with concentrate diets containing Ca-fish oil on milk production and milk composition of Etawah Grade goats was evaluated. Choline chloride is an essential component in ruminant diets as it is required for fat metabolism. Method: The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized block design with three types of treatments and eight replications. The trial had two successive experimental periods; the first, during the eight weeks of late pregnancy, and the second, during the first 12 weeks of lactation. Twenty-four Etawah Grade does in the second gestation period were divided into three treatment groups. Commercial choline chloride 60 % in corncobs-based powder was used as a source of choline chloride. The treatments were no supplementation (control) and supplemented with either 4 g or 8 g/2days of choline chloride. Choline chloride was given to the animals through a forced drinking technique, after dissolving it in 60 ml drinking water. The initial body weight of does was $38.81{\pm}3.66kg$. The does were penned individually, and were given fresh chopped King Grass ad libitum and 700 g/day of concentrate diets containing Ca-fish oil, starting eight weeks prior to expecting kidding and continuing for 12 weeks of parturition. Results: All nutrient intakes were not significantly different (p > 0.05) among the treatments during the late pregnancy and the lactation periods. Supplementation did not affect (p > 0.05) the average daily gains and feed conversion ratio during pregnancy but gave effects (p < 0.05) on the average daily gains, feed conversion ratio and income over feed cost during lactation. The highest average daily milk yields and 4 % fat corrected milk yields were found in goats supplemented with 4 g/2days of choline chloride and increased by 17.00 % and 24.67 %, respectively, compared to the control. Moreover, milk composition percentage and milk constituent yields improved significantly (p < 0.05) in those supplemented with 4 g/2days of choline chloride. Conclusion: The supplementation of 4 g/2days of choline chloride through forced drinking increased milk yields, the 4 % fat corrected milk yields, milk composition, milk constituent yields, and improved feed conversion ratio and income over feed cost of Etawah Grade goats.

교잡종 찰옥수수에 대한 연구 -IV. 조생 찰옥수수 육성 계통의 주요 특성 (Study on Waxy Maize Hybrid -IV. Major Characteristics of the Waxy Maize Lines for Early Hybrid Development)

  • 1. 본 시험에 공시된 7개의 찰옥수수 계통중에서 간장은 IK/H26-2, Heunchal, 239-3, IK/H26-1 계통이 대조품종인 Chalok 1호보다 큰 반면에 Local-1, Local-2, IK/LE 계통은 작게 나타났다. 2. 착수고의 경우 Local-2, IK/LE는 각각 23.3cm, 35cm로 대조품종보다 낮았으며, 주당 분얼수는 대조품종인 찰옥1호와 약간의 차이를 보였다. 3. 이삭의 경직경은 IK/H26-1, IK/H26-2, Local-2 239-3 계통 등에서 대조품종보다 낮았고 Local-1, IK/LE, Heunchal 계통 등에서는 다소 굵었다. 4. 출사일수는 Local-1, Local-2, IK/LE 등에서 대조품종보다 2일정도 빨랐고 239-3, Heunchal등에서는 각각 61일, 60일로 다소 늦은 반면에 IK/H26-1, IK/H26-2 등에서는 대조품종과 동일하였다. 특히, 공시 수집종 계통 중에서 Local-2가 55일로 가장 짧은 기간을 나타내어 조숙 찰옥수수 교잡종의 육성 자료로 이용에 유리할 것으로 판단되었다.

Determination of Adequate Method for Protein Extraction from Rice Bran and the Substitution of Dried Skim Milk with Protein Concentrate from Rice Bran in Early Weaned Pigs

  • The present study was conducted to determine a feasible method of protein concentrate extraction from rice bran (RBPC) and its effect as a substitution for skim milk in early weaning pig diets. An investigation to extract protein concentrate from full fat rice bran was undertaken to determine the best ratio of water and rice bran, the amount of NaOH and a HCl solvent to use in a simple paddle-type mixer with modified spinning to produce RBPC. The results stated that the best ratio for water mixing in the RBPC extraction process was 1:5 with 20 g NaOH and 30 min in a paddle-type mixer at 300 rpm. A mix of 250 ml 0.2 N HCl was optimum for neutralization and protein precipitation. After the fluid was spun out with a washing machine, the sediment was left for 12-14 hours to complete the filtration. One kilogram of rice bran could produce an average of 324.5 gram RBPC and it contained 3.40% ash, 496.48 kcal of GE/100 gram, 1.94% crude fiber, 28.20% ether extract, 7.64% moisture and 16.66% crude protein, respectively. A total of 45 crossbred piglets, weaned at 3 weeks of age were allotted into control diet (A) and dietary treatments formulated with a four different rates of RBPC substitution for skim milk at a percentage of 25 (B), 50 (C), 77 (D) and 100 (E) respectively, in a randomized complete block (RCB) design. All piglets had free access to feed and water until 8 week of age when the experiment ended. Feed intake, average daily gain, growth rate and feed efficiency were not affected by dietary treatments. Blood test parameters after completion of the growth trial indicated normal health. Even though the mean of cell hemoglobin concentration was significantly different between treatments (p<0.05) it was still within the normal range. The cost difference for BW gain of 100% RBPC substituted for skim milk in the weaning diet was approximately 35% lower than that of the control and the relative cost of production was 96.67, 92.85, 70.75 and 64.48% lower for the replacement of 25, 50, 75 and 100% of skim milk respectively. These results implied that this technology is feasible for use by small scale farmers to improve their self-reliance.

Evaluating different interrow distance between corn and soybean for optimum growth, production and nutritive value of intercropped forages

  • Background: Maize fodder is being used as staple feed for livestock but it lacks protein and essential amino acids; lysine and tryptophan. Intercropping maize with leguminous soybean crop is promising technique under limited land resources of South Korea but it can only give considerable advantages when adequate distance is provided between corn and soybean rows. Main aim of present study was to find-out adequate distance between corn and soybean seeding rows for optimum growth, yield and nutritive value of intercropped forage. Methods: Different interrow distances between corn and soybean were evaluated under four treatments, viz. 1) Corn sole as positive control treatment 2) Zero cm between corn and soybean (control); 2) Five cm between corn and soybean; 3) 10 cm between corn and soybean, with three replicates under randomized block design. Results: Findings depicted that height and number of corn stalks and ears were similar (P > 0.05) among different treatments. Numerically average corn ear height was decreased at zero cm distance. Dry matter percentage in all components; corn stalk, corn ear and soybean was also found not different (P > 0.05) but dry matter yield in component of corn ear was lower (P < 0.05) at zero cm distance as compared to that of 5 and 10 cm interrow distances. In case of nutritive value, total digestible nutrient yield in intercropped corn was also found lower (P < 0.05) at zero cm distance than that of 5 and 10 cm interrow distances between corn and soybean seeding rows. Substantial decrease in dry matter yield of maize ear at zero cm distance might be attributed to factor of closed interrow spacing which made interplant competition more intensified for light interception, necessary for photosynthetic activity. Lower dry matter yield in ear also reduced total digestible nutrients in intercropped maize because it was determining factor in calculation of digestible nutrients. The optimum yield and nutritive value of forage at wider interrow distance i.e. 5 cm between corn and soybean might be due to adequate interseed distance. Conclusion: Conclusively, pattern of corn and soybean seeding in rows at 5 cm distance was found suitable which provided adequate interrow distance to maintain enough mutual cooperation and decreased competition between both species for optimum production performance and nutritive value of intercropped forage.

남은 음식물 퇴비 시용에 따른 토양의 이화학성 변화와 고추생육에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Application of Residual Food Compost on Growth of Red Pepper(Capsicum annuum L.) and Physicochemical Properties of soil)

  • 본 연구는 유기성 폐자원의 효율적인 처리 방법의 일환인 퇴비화를 이용하여 생산된 남은 음식물 퇴비(이하 음식물 퇴비)를 고추 재배지에 시용량 별로 처리한 후 작물 생육과 토양의 이화학성 변화에 미치는 영항을 평가하기 위해 수행되었다. 처리구는 무처리구, 대조구($20Mgha^{-1}$의 돈분 퇴비), 음식물퇴비를 20, 40, 60, $80Mgha^{-1}$을 시용한 처리구 등 모두 6 개를 두었으며 3 반복, 난괴법을 이용하였다. 토양 pH는 음식물 퇴비의 시용량이 많을수록 상승하는 경향이 컸으며, 전기 전도도를 비롯한 다른 토양 특성도 비슷한 경향을 보였다. 또한 음식물 퇴비 시용량이 많을수록 용적비중은 낮아지고 공극율은 증가하는 상관관계를 보였다. 작물생육은 퇴비 시용량이 많은 처리구에서 초기 생육이 저조하였으며 1차 생육조사에서 그 차이를 뚜렷하게 확인할 수 있었다. 고추의 생중량은 초기 생육에서 저해를 받은 처리구에서 특히 적었으며 음식물 퇴비의 $20Mgha^{-1}$처리구는 대조구에 비해 낮았지만 큰 차이는 크지 않았다. 음식물 퇴비의 수용성 유기성분과 염류에 의한 초기 생육부진과 고추 수확량 감소를 감안한다면 시용량은 $30Mgha^{-1}$을 초과하지 말아야 할 것으로 판단된다. 음식물 퇴비를 연용 시험을 통해 작물 생육과 토양에 미치는 영향을 평가하여 음식물 퇴비의 시용량을 설정하는 것이 바람직할 것으로 생각된다.
