As an introduction of an open spectrum allocation approach with technology and service neutrality is expected as a way to solve problems of frequency shortage due to the expansion of demand for wireless multimedia communications, recently, the new management model of interferences and its standard setting are required. In this paper, as a model for this new interference management considering several candidates, Block Edge Mask(BEM) approach is chosen as the most appropriate model. And to investigate the effects of interference resulting from the standard setting of BEM, assuming the use of LTE systems in the Digital Dividend, BEM out-of-band baseline in the boundaries between digital terrestrial television (DTV) service and LTE mobile communications services which are heterogeneous systems for analysis is derived and the effect of setting guard band is analyzed.

In this paper, the novel approach for image contrast enhancement is introduced. The method is based on the unsharp mask and directional information of images. Since the unsharp mask techniques give better visual quality than the conventional sharpening mask, there are much works on image enhancement using unsharp masks. The proposed algorithm decomposes the image to several blocks and extracts directional information using DCT. From the geometric properties of the block, each block is labeled as appropriate type and processed by adaptive unsharp mask. The masking process is skipped at the flat area to reduce the noise artifact, but at the texture and edge area, the adaptive unsharp mask is applied to enhance the image contrast based on the edge direction. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm produces the contrast enhanced images with superior visual quality, suppressing the noise effects and enhancing edge at the same time.

In this study, we propose a revised dynamic ROI (Region-of-Interest) coding method in which the focused ROI is automatically extracted without help from users during the recovery process of low DOF (Depth-of-Field) JPEG2000 image. The proposed method creates edge mask information using high frequency sub-band data on a specific level in DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform), and then identifies the edge code block for a high-speed ROI extraction. The algorithm scans the edge mask data in four directions by the unit of code block and identifies the edge code block simply and fastly using a edge threshold. As the results of experimentation applying for Implicit method, the proposed method showed the superiority in the side of speed and quality comparing to the existing methods.
In this Paper, an efficient method of FPGA based design and implementation of Sobel Edge detector block using 3-Line buffers is presented. The FPGA provides the proper and sufficient hardware for image processing algorithms with flexibility to support Sobel edge detection algorithm. A pipe-lined method is used to implement the edge detector. The proposed Sobel edge detection operator is an model using of Finite State Machine(FSM) which executes a matrix mask operation to determine the level of edge intensity through different of pixels on an image. This approach is useful to improve the system performance by taking advantage of efficient look up tables, flip-flop resources on target device. The proposed Sobel detector using 3-line buffers is synthesized with Xilinx ISE 14.2 and implemented on Virtex II xc2vp-30-7-FF896 FPGA device. Using matlab, we show better PSNR performance of proposed design in terms of 3-Line buffers utilization.
In this paper, a novel frame rate up conversion (FRUC) algorithm using adaptive extended bilateral motion estimation (AEBME) is proposed. Conventionally, extended bilateral motion estimation (EBME) conducts dual motion estimation (ME) processes on the same region, therefore involves high complexity. However, in this proposed scheme, a novel block type matching procedure is suggested to accelerate the ME procedure. We calculate the edge information using sobel mask, and the calculated edge information is used in block type matching procedure. Based on the block type matching, decision will be made whether to use EBME. Motion vector smoothing (MVS) is adopted to detect outliers and correct outliers in the motion vector field. Finally, overlapped block motion compensation (OBMC) and motion compensated frame interpolation (MCFI) are adopted to interpolate the intermediate frame in which OBMC is employed adaptively based on frame motion activity. Experimental results show that this proposed algorithm has outstanding performance and fast computation comparing with EBME.

In this paper, we propose a temporal error concealment method based on the edge adaptive masking. In the method, four regions around the corrupted block - top, bottom, left, and right - are defined and the edge features of the regions are extracted by applying an edge operator for each direction. The size of a mask for the boundary matching is determined by the edge information, which can be considered as a criterion to measure the activity of the boundary region. In other words, it is determined such that the size of the mask is proportional to the amount of edge-component extracted from each region in order to yield the higher reliability on boundary matching. This process is equivalent to applying weights depending on the edge features, which leads the improved motion vector. In experiments, it is verified that the proposed method outperforms the conventional methods in terms of image quality, and then its merits and demerits are discussed.
A new intra-field deinterlacing algorithm with edge direction vector (EDV) in the image block is introduced. This proposed filter is suitable to the region with high motion or scene change. We first introduce an EDV, which is computed by Sobel mask used edge map, so that filer resolution of the edge direction can be acquired. The proposed EDV oriented deinterlacing system operates by identifying small pixel variations in five orientations, $26.5^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $135^{\circ}$, and $153.5^{\circ}$. The EDV values work as inputs of Sobel mask and return edge direction degree and confidence parameters. Based on edge direction degree and confidence parameters the missing pixel is computed. The results of computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms a number of intra-field deinterlacing methods in the literature.

A new intra field deinterlacing algorithm with edge map in the image block is introduced. Conventional deinterlacing methods usually employ edge-based line average algorithm within pixel-by-pixel approach. However, it is sensitive to variation of intensity. To reduce this shortcoming, we proposed edge direction vector computed by edge map, and also its interpolation technique. We first introduce an edge direction vector, which is computed by Sobel mask, so that finer resolution of the edge direction can be acquired. The proposed edge direction vector oriented deinterlacer operates by identifying small pixel variations in five orientations, while weighted averaging to estimate missing pixel. According to the edge direction of the direction vector, we calculate weights on each edge direction. These weight values multiplied by the candidate deinterlaced pixels in order to successively build approximations of the deinterlaced sequence.

Security system with web camera remarkably has been developed at an Internet era. Using transmitted images from remote camera, the system can recognize current situation and take a proper action through web. Existing motion detection methods use simply difference image, background image techniques or block matching algorithm which establish initial block by set search area and find similar block. But these methods are difficult to detect exact motion because of useless noise. In this paper, the proposed method is updating changed background image as much as $N{\times}M$pixel mask as time goes on after get a difference between imput image and first background image. And checking image pixel can efficiently detect motion by computing fixed distance pixel instead of operate all pixel.

This paper suggests a new algorithm automatically searching for Region-of-Interest(ROI) with high speed, using the edge information of high frequency subband transformed with wavelet. The proposed method executes a searching algorithm of 4-direction object boundary by the unit of block using the edge information, and detects ROIs. The whole image is splitted by $64{\times}64$ or $32{\times}32$ sized blocks and the blocks can be ROI block or background block according to taking the edges or not. The 4-directions searche the image from the outside to the center and the algorithm uses a feature that the low-DOF image has some edges as one goes to center. After searching all the edges, the method regards the inner blocks of the edges as ROI, and makes the ROI masks and sends them to server. This is one of the dynamic ROI method. The existing methods have had some problems of complicated filtering and region merge, but this method improved considerably the problems. Also, it was possible to apply to an application requiring real-time processing caused by the process of the unit of block.
