Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze turbidity and quality characteristics of white rice as a function of main shaft blast velocity and to verify the optimum processing conditions in the cutting type white rice processing system (CTWRPS). Methods: Sindongjin, one of the rice varieties, which used to be produced in Gimje-si, Jeollabuk-do, in 2015, was used as the experimental material. Turbidity and quality characteristics of white rice were measured at three different main shaft blast velocities: 25, 30, and 35 m/s. The amount of test material used for a single experiment was 20 kg, and after processing, whiteness was found to be $42.5{\pm}0.5$, following which, turbidity and quality characteristics were measured. Results: Turbidity decreased with increase in the shaft blast velocity, and as a result, was lowest at 35 m/s of shaft blast velocity among all the other experiment velocities. The trend of cracked rice ratios was similar to the turbidity. Broken rice ratio turned out to be less than 2.0% in all the test conditions. In the first stage of processing, the processing pressure decreased as the main shaft blast velocity increased. Additionally, in the second stage of processing, the processing pressure was at its lowest value at the main shaft blast velocity of 35 m/s. Energy consumption, too, decreased as the main shaft blast velocity was increased. Conclusions: From the above results, it is concluded that the main shaft blast velocity of 35 m/s is best for reducing turbidity and producing high quality rice in a CTWRPS.
This study undertakes an evaluation of blast effect through the analysis of the contribution rate and effect that different artificial joint number, artificial joint spacing and artificial joint angle have on blast velocity. Blast velocity according to the different state of the artificial joint was obtained using AUTODYN, a dynamic analysis program. The result of the numerical analysis was subjected to further normalization analysis. For the contribution rate of design factors was analyzed using the robust design method. The orthogonal array used in the analysis was $L_9(3^4)$ and each parameters were having 3 levels. The result of normalization analysis regarding the artificial joint angle was indicated a tendency in which blast velocity decreased. The result of analyzing blast velocity regarding artificial joint spacing and artificial joint angle was indicated a tendency in which blast velocity decreased as artificial joint spacing increased when the angle was perpendicular. In the case of blast velocity contribution rates they were ranked in the descending order of artificial joint angle, artificial joint number, artificial joint spacing.
This study investigated the effects of infrared (IR) radiation combined with air blast thawing on the physical properties of pork. Regardless of air velocity, increasing IR dosage produced an exponential increase in the thawing rate of pork. This rate increased further when air blast velocity was increased. IR treatments showed significantly lower thawing loss than that of 0 Watt treatment, while increasing air velocity significantly increased thawing loss of pork (p<0.05). Increasing both IR power and air velocity tended to decrease the cooking loss of pork. Moreover, increased IR power tended to decrease the water holding capacity and shear force of pork. The shear force changes were not significant (p>0.05). Shear force also increased with increasing air velocity. In addition, the higher the air velocity the higher the shear force of pork. In Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) colour determination, control of temperature prevented discolouration from overheating of sample surface. The results suggest that IR dosage combined with air blast has potential in thawed meat quality aspects, and that humidity control could prevent surface drying.
This study was conducted to evaluate the influences of the angle of artificial joints, the distance between the artificial joints and the blast hole, and the number of artificial joints on the pressure wave propagation, crack propagation, and blast wave velocity. The evaluation was conducted numerically by use of the Euler-Lagrange solver supported by the AUTODYN, which is a dynamic FEM program. As a result, it was found that the blast wave velocity was decreased most rapidly as either the distance between the artificial joint and the blast hole was decreased or the angle of the artificial joint was increased. In contrast to the case of no artificial joint, the amount of attenuation of the blast wave velocity was considerably large when an artificial joint was present. However, the effect of the number of artificial joint on the attenuation of the blast wave velocity was negligible under the given condition.
This study measured a vibration level at each distance of construction fields where blasts occur using Lion measuring instrument and used BlastmateIII to measure vibration velocity at the same distance. A total 130 blasts occurred with the weight of a total of 5,180 kg and the number of blast holes per blast was 5, 10 and 20. The weight of 4 kg was used for each hole. Vibrations caused by blast was measured at the distance with the same velocity and level. Measurements were carried 15~102 m away from the blast source. and 273 data on vibration velocity and level were obtained from eight measurements. It analysed data on vibration velocity measured based on existing correlation formulas and compared them to real measurements to analyse interrelationship.
The regression analysis of the ground vibration data (particle velocity and vibration level) was carried out to find an empirical relation between the vibration velocity (PVS, PPV, $V_V$) and the vibration level. The regression results revealed that the correlation of the blast vibration velocity and vibration level was quite good. It seems that the empirical relation obtained in this research will be applied to evaluating and managing the various environmental vibrations.
This study is to evaluate an irregular drill-hole depth having an effect on the blast vibration. The relationship between a peak particle velocity and a cube root scaled distance with respect to three drill-hole depths with 2.1m, 2.3m and 2.4m are compared and analyzed using a numerical regression analysis. According to the results, the deeper a drill-hole depth is the larger a peak particle velocity is. It is suggested that a drill-hole depth is proportional to a peak particle velocity at the same scaled distance. Therefore, a regular drill-hole should be carried out in order that the blast vibration velocity of a fixed range under a allowable vibration velocity is maintained.
From all of the environmental problems, blast-induced vibrations often cause concern to surrounding residents. It is often claimed that damage to building superstructures is due to blasting, and sometimes the building owner files a lawsuit against the company that perform blasting operations. The blast-vibration problem has been thoroughly investigated in the past and continues to be the subject of ongoing research. In this study, a tunnel construction has been performed by a construction company, according to their contract they must have used drilling & blasting method for excavation in tunnel inlet and outlet portal. The population is very condensed with almost tunnel below in the vicinity houses of one or two floors, typically built with stone masonry and concrete. This situation forces the company to take extreme precautions when they are designing blasts so that the blast effects, which are mainly vibration and aerial waves, do not disturb their surrounding neighbors. For this purpose, the vibration measurement and analysis have been carried out and a new methodology in minimizing the blast induced ground vibrations at the target location, was also applied. Peak particle velocity and dominant frequencies were taken into consideration in analyzing the blast-induced ground vibration. The methodology aims to employ the most suitable time delays among blast-hole groupings to render destructive interference of surface waves at the target location.
At the furnace top, the distribution of charging coke and ore is adjusted to control the reducing gas flow distribution in the furnace. It is necessary to predict operation condition of blast furnace according to the burden profile to judge whether charging is properly conducted In this study, We propose the model for predicting while layer structures whithin furnace when top burden profile was given. Layer structure of coke and ore could be predicted by top burden profile and solid velocity. Solid velocity is assumed as potential flow. Potential function distribution and timeline are also calculated using solid velocity field. The Calculation is conducted for different burden profile cases. As the result burden distribution and grid structure, which is deformed to match the layer structure in shaft and deadman profile. Gas flow was calculated using this grid, and calculated results are compared with each other.
