Wavelet transforms are used for implementing digital watermarking methods in the frequency domain. In this paper, we construct the digital watermarking using various wavelet transforms such as the Daubechies transform, Coiflets transform, Symlets transform and the biorthogonal transform, and we compare each digital watermarking method with the others. We investigate the preservation of the watermark after the data compression attack based on the discrete on the discrete cosine transform. We show that the biorthogonal wavelet, denoted by bior3.5, has the best performance among the wavelet types we selected in an experiment.
This paper proposes a color image coding algorithm based on shape-adaptive all phase biorthogonal transform (SA-APBT). This algorithm is implemented through four procedures: color space conversion, image segmentation, shape coding, and texture coding. Region-of-interest (ROI) and background area are obtained by image segmentation. Shape coding uses chain code. The texture coding of the ROI is prior to the background area. SA-APBT and uniform quantization are adopted in texture coding. Compared with the color image coding algorithm based on shape-adaptive discrete cosine transform (SA-DCT) at the same bit rates, experimental results on test color images reveal that the objective quality and subjective effects of the reconstructed images using the proposed algorithm are better, especially at low bit rates. Moreover, the complexity of the proposed algorithm is reduced because of uniform quantization.

Discrete cosine transform (DCT) based JPEG standard significantly improves the coding efficiency of image compression, but it is unacceptable event in serious blocking artifacts at low bit rate and low efficiency of high-definition image. In the light of all phase digital filtering theory, this paper proposes a novel transform based on discrete sine transform (DST), which is called all phase discrete sine biorthogonal transform (APDSBT). Applying APDSBT to JPEG scheme, the blocking artifacts are reduced significantly. The reconstructed image of APDSBT-JPEG is better than that of DCT-JPEG in terms of objective quality and subjective effect. For improving the efficiency of JPEG coding, the structure of JPEG is analyzed. We analyze key factors in design and evaluation of JPEG compression on the massive parallel graphics processing units (GPUs) using the compute unified device architecture (CUDA) programming model. Experimental results show that the maximum speedup ratio of parallel algorithm of APDSBT-JPEG can reach more than 100 times with a very low version GPU. Some new parallel strategies are illustrated in this paper for improving the performance of parallel algorithm. With the optimal strategy, the efficiency can be improved over 10%.

Several image coding algorithms have been developed for the telecommunication and multimedia systems with high image quality and high compression ratio. In order to achieve low entropy and distortion, the system should pay great cost of computation time and memory. In this paper, the uniform cubic lattice is chosen for Lattice Vector Quantization (LVQ) because of its generic simplicity. As a transform coding, the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) is applied to the images because of its multiresolution property. The proposed algorithm is basically composed of the biorthogonal DWT and the uniform cubic LVQ. The multiresolution property of the DWT is actively used to optimize the entropy and the distortion on the basis of the distortion-rate function. The vector codebooks are also designed to be optimal at each subimage which is analyzed by the biorthogonal DWT. For compression efficiency, the vector codebook has different dimension depending on the variance of subimage. The simulation results show that the performance of the proposed coding mdthod is superior to the others in terms of the computation complexity and the PSNR in the range of entropy below 0.25 bpp.

In recent years, due to its high efficiency and better performance, the high efficiency video coding (HEVC) has become the most common compression standard in the field of video coding. In this paper, the framework of HEVC is deeply analyzed, and an improved HEVC video coding algorithm based on all phase biorthogonal transform (APBT) is proposed, where APBT is utilized to replace the discrete cosine transform (DCT) and discrete sine transform (DST) in original HEVC standard. Based on the relationship between APBT and DCT, the integer APBT is deduced. To further improve the coding performance, an optimal HEVC video coding algorithm based on hybrid APBT is proposed. The coding performance of the proposed HEVC coding algorithm is improved without increasing the complexity. Experimental results show that compared with HEVC standard algorithm, the improved HEVC video coding algorithm based on hybrid APBT can improve the coding performance of chrominance components by about 0.3%.

In this paper, we propose wavelet transform image compression method using shuffling and bit plane correlation. Proposed method is that original image decompose into multiresolutions using biorthogonal wavelet transform with linear phase response property and decomposed subbands are classified by maximum classification gain. And classified data sets in each subband are quantized using arbitrary set optimum bit allocation method. Quantized data sets in each subband are shuffled and context based bit plane arithmetic encoded .In context based bit plane arithmetic encoding, the context for each subband is not assigned uniformly, but assigned according to maximum correlation direction. Our results are comparable, or superior for some images at low rates, to published state-of-the-art coders.
In this paper, we propose wavelet transform image compression method such that an image is decomposed into multiresolutions using biorthogonal wavelet transform with linear phase response property and decomposed subbands are classified by maximum classification gain. The classified data is quantized by allocating bits in accordance with classified class informations within subbands through arbitrary set bit allocation algorithm. And then, quantized data in each subband are entropy coded. The proposed coding method is that the quantized data perform shuffling before entropy coding in order to remove sign bit plane. And the context is assigned by maximum correlation direction for bit plane coding.

A new image coding technique has been proposed based on the wavelet transform. To achieve lower ceding rates and good qualities in reconstructed images, some of wavelet coefficients were removed by thresholding and quantized in accordance with the sensitivity of the human visual system(HVS). For each block of subimages in wavelet transform domain, block thresholding scheme has been used to remove the unimportant wavelet coefficients according to the frequency characteristic and statistical property of wavelet coefficients. The location information of quantized blocks and removed blocks were encoded using run-length coder which is effective for the exponential distribution. Quantized coefficients were encoded using variable length coder which matches well to their distribution. Simulation results show that the reconstructed images maintain high quality with the low bit rate, below 1.0 bits per pel.

In wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSN), the latency of transmission is an increasingly problem. With the improvement of resolution, the time cost in image and video compression is more and more, which seriously affects the real-time of WMSN. In JPEG system, the core of the system is DCT, but DCT-JPEG is not the best choice. Block-based DCT transform coding has serious blocking artifacts when the image is highly compressed at low bit rates. APBT is used in this paper to solve that problem, but APBT does not have a fast algorithm. In this paper, we analyze the structure in JPEG and propose a parallel framework to speed up the algorithm of JPEG on GPU. And we use all phase biorthogonal transform (APBT) to replace the discrete cosine transform (DCT) for the better performance of reconstructed image. Therefore, parallel APBT-JPEG is proposed to solve the real-time of WMSN and the blocking artifacts in DCT-JPEG in this paper. We use the CUDA toolkit based on GPU which is released by NVIDIA to design the parallel algorithm of APBT-JPEG. Experimental results show that the maximum speedup ratio of parallel algorithm of APBT-JPEG can reach more than 100 times with a very low version GPU, compared with conventional serial APBT-JPEG. And the reconstructed image using the proposed algorithm has better performance than the DCT-JPEG in terms of objective quality and subjective effect. The proposed parallel algorithm based on GPU of APBT also can be used in image compression, video compression, the edge detection and some other fields of image processing.

This paper presents a discrete wavelet transform approach for determining the beginning and end times of voltage sags. Firstly, investigations in the use of some typical mother wavelets, namely Daubechies, Symlets, Coiflets and Biorthogonal are carried out and the most appropriate mother wavelet is selected. The proposed technique is based on utilizing the maximum value of Dl (at scale 1) coefficients in multiresolution analysis (MRA) based on the discrete wavelet transform. The results are compared with other methods for determining voltage sag duration, such as the Root Mean Square (RMS) voltage and Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) methods. It is shown that the voltage sag detection technique based on the wavelet transform is a satisfactory and reliable method for detecting voltage sags in power quality disturbance analysis.
