  • In response to increased security concerns, biometrics is becoming more focused on overcoming or complementing conventional knowledge and possession-based authentication. However, biometric authentication requires special care since the loss of biometric data is irrecoverable. In this paper, we present a biometric authentication framework, where several novel techniques are applied to provide security and privacy. First, a biometric template is saved in a transformed form. This makes it possible for a template to be canceled upon its loss while the original biometric information is not revealed. Second, when a user is registered with a server, a biometric template is stored in a special form, named a 'soft vault'. This technique prevents impersonation attacks even if data in a server is disclosed to an attacker. Finally, a one-time template technique is applied in order to prevent replay attacks against templates transmitted over networks. In addition, the whole scheme keeps decision equivalence with conventional face authentication, and thus it does not decrease biometric recognition performance. As a result, the proposed techniques construct a secure face authentication framework in open networks.

  • In this paper, we analyze the international financial biometric adoption cases in smart phones and ATMs and propose a scheme for Korean financial telebiometrics. Regional privacy issues, financial services environment, according to the differences in the direction of government policy introducing biometric aspects were appearing differently. In Korea, due to changes in fin-tech vitalization and outstanding convenience mobile oriented service to the regulatory environment, the introduction of biometric technology is the point that is being actively discussed. In this paper, we propose a scheme for the Korean banking financial sector through the introduction of biometric technology adoption case analysis of each country. Thus, this paper is intended to help that the financial sector makes a precise decision when it is establishes a policy of biometric technology application for electronic financial services.

  • Password-based authentication schemes for server-client system are convenient to use, but vulnerable to dictionary attack or brute-force attack. To solve this vulnerability, Cryptographic secret key is used for security, but difficult to memorize. So, for the first time, Das proposed a biometric-based authentication scheme to solve various problems but it has various vulnerabilities. Afterwards, Jiping et al. improved Das's scheme, but some vulnerabilities remain. In this paper, we analyze the cryptanalysis of Jiping et al.'s authentication scheme and then propose improved biometric based user authentication scheme to resolve the analyzed problem. Moreover, we conduct a security analysis for the proposed scheme and make a comparison between the proposed scheme and other biometric based user authentications.

  • Biometric authentication has become an essential part of modern-day security systems, especially in financial institutions like banks. A face recognition-based ATM is a biometric authentication system, that uses facial recognition technology to verify the identity of bank account holders during ATM transactions. This technology offers a secure and convenient alternative to traditional ATM transactions that rely on PIN numbers for verification. The proposed system captures users' pictures and compares it with the stored image in the bank's database to authenticate the transaction. The technology also offers additional benefits such as reducing the risk of fraud and theft, as well as speeding up the transaction process. However, privacy and data security concerns remain, and it is important for the banking sector to instrument solid security actions to protect customers' personal information. The proposed system consists of two stages: the first stage captures the user's facial image using a camera and performs pre-processing, including face detection and alignment. In the second stage, machine learning algorithms compare the pre-processed image with the stored image in the database. The results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of using face recognition for ATM authentication, which can enhance the security of ATMs and reduce the risk of fraud.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that extracts an invariant biometric key in order to apply this biometric key to the crypto-biometric system. This system is a new authentication architecture which can improve the security of current cryptographic system and solve the problem of stored template protection in conventional biometric system, also. To use biometric information as a cryptographic key in crypto-biometric system, same key should be generated from the same person. However, it is difficult to obtain such an invariant biometric key because biometric data is sensitive to surrounding environments. The proposed method solves this problem by clustering Iris Codes obtained by using independent component analysis (ICA).

  • This paper deals with the biometric template protection in the biometric system which has been widely used for personal authentication. First, we consider the structure of the biometric system and the function of its sub-systems and define the biometric template and identification(ID) information. And then, we describe the biometric template attack points of a biometric system and attack examples and provide their countermeasures. From this, we classify the vulnerability which can be protected by encryption and hashing techniques. For more detail investigation of these at real operating situations, we analyze them and suggest several protection methods for the typical application scheme of biometric systems such as local model, download model, attached model, and center model. Finally, we also handle the privacy problem which is most controversy issue related to the biometric systems and suggest some guidances of safeguarding procedures on establishing privacy sympathy biometric systems.

  • Changeable biometrics identify a person using transformed biometric data instead of original biometric data in order to enhance privacy and security in biometrics when biometric data is compromised. In this paper, a novel scheme which generates changeable face templates for statistical appearance-based face recognition is proposed. Two different original face feature vectors are extracted from two different appearance-based approaches, respectively, each original feature vector is normalized, and its elements are re-ordered. Finally a changeable face template is generated by weighted addition between two normalized and scrambled feature vectors. Since the two feature vectors are combined into one by a two to one mapping, the original two feature vectors are not easily recovered from the changeable face template even if the combining rule is known. Also, when we need to make new changeable face template for a person, we change the re-ordering rule for the person and make a new feature vector for the person. Therefore, the security and privacy in biometric system can be enhanced by using the proposed changeable face templates. In our experiments, we analyze the proposed method with respect to performance and security using an AR-face database.

  • Recently, many biometrics-based user authentication schemes for telecare medicine information systems (TMIS) have been proposed to improve the security problems in user authentication system. In 2014, Mishra et al. proposed an improvement of Awasthi-Srivastava's biometric based authentication for TMIS which is secure against the various attacks and provide mutual authentication, efficient password change. In this paper, we discuss the security of Mishra et al.'s authentication scheme, and we have shown that Mishra et al.'s authentication scheme is still insecure against the various attacks. Also, we proposed the improved scheme to remove these security problems of Mishra et al.'s authentication scheme, even if the secret information stored in the smart card is revealed. As a result, we can see that the improved biometric based authentication scheme is secure against the insider attack, the password guessing attack, the user impersonation attack, the server masquerading attack and provides mutual authentication between the user and the telecare system.
