관상동맥우회술 시 사용된 박동성펌프$(T-PLS^{TM})$와 비박동성펌프$(Bio-pump^{TM})$의 비교연구 (The Comparative Study of on Pump CABG during Pulsatile $(T-PLS^{TM})$ and Nonpulsatile $(Bio-pump^{TM})$ Perfusion)

  • 배경: 체외순환에 사용되는 박동성 펌프는 비박동성 펌프에 비해 조직관류가 좋지만 혈구손상이 많다고 알려져 왔다. 관상동맥우회술 시 박동성 펌프인 $T-PLS^{TM}$(이중 박동성 인공심폐기)와 비박동성 펌프인 $Bio-pump^{TM}$의 임상결과를 비교하여 $T-PLS^{TM}$의 안전성 및 장단점을 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 2003년 4월부터 2005년 6월까지 관상동맥우회술을 시행 받은 40명을 대상으로 하였다. $T-PLS^{TM}$을 이용하여 관상동맥 우회술을 시행 받은 환자는 20명이었고 $Bio-pump^{TM}$을 이용하여 관상동맥우회술을 시행 받은 환자는 20명이었다. 수술은 모든 환자에서 심폐체외순환하에서 박동하여 시행하였다. 수술 전 위험인자와 수술 중 상태, 술 후 결과를 비교하였다. 결과: 두 군 간 연령, 남녀비, 당뇨, 고혈압, 흡연력 및 폐쇄성 폐질환, 심근경색, 신부전 등 술 전 위험요소는 차이가 없었다. 수술시간, 심폐기 사용시간, 사용한 우회도관 및 문합한 관상동맥분지는 두 군에서 차이가 없었다. 수술 중 수축기 동맥압, 이완기 동맥압, 평균동맥압은 두 군 간 차이는 없었지만 맥박압은 $T-PLS^{TM}$군에서 높게 측정되었다$(46{\pm}15\;mmHg\;in\;T-PLS^{TM}\;vs\;35{\pm}13\;mmHg\;in\;Bio-pump^{TM},\;p<0.05)$. 수술 중 소변량은 $T-PLS^{TM}$군에서 높은 경향이 있었지만 통계적 의미는 없었다$(9.7{\pm}3.9\;in\;T-PLS^{TM}\;versus\;8.9{\pm}3.6\;in\;Bio-pump^{TM},\;p=0.20)$. 수술 후 평균 호흡기 사용시간, 24시간 실혈량은 두 군간 차이는 없었다. 수술 후 유리혈장색소는 $T-PLS^{TM}$군에서 유의하게 낮게 측정되었다$(24.5{\pm}21.7\;mg/dL\;in\;T-PLS^{TM}\;vs\;46.8{\pm}23.0\;in\;Bio-pump^{TM},\;p<0.05)$. 수술 후 심근경색, 부정맥, 신부전, 뇌혈관질환 이환율은 두 군에서 차이가 없었다. 수술 후 사망은 $T-PLS^{TM}$군에서 1예(5%) 발생하였으나 통계적 유의성은 없었다. 결론: 박동성 혈류펌프인 $T-PLS^{TM}$를 이용하여 심폐기하 관상동맥 우회술을 시행하였다. 수술 중 기계오류에 의한 사고는 없었고 수술 후 임상경과가 $Bio-pump^{TM}$를 이용하여 수술한 경우와 차이가 없었다. 또한 박동성 혈류의 문제점이었던 혈구손상은 감소하였다. 저자들은 본 연구를 통해 $T-PLS^{TM}$의 안정성을 확인하였다.

생활하수 및 산업폐수 슬러지 처리에 따른 콩의 중금속 및 아미노산 함량 (Heavy Metal and Amino Acid Contents of Soybean by Application of Sewage and Industrial Sludge)

  • 본 연구는 생활하수 및 산업폐수 슬러지를 연차적으로 경작지에 처리한 후, 재배된 콩 식물체의 중금속 흡수 정도와 영양성분에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 처리량은 무처리, 11.25, 22.50 및 45.00 Mg/ha로 하였으며, 재배된 콩 식물체의 부위별 Cd, Pb, Ni, Cu 및 Zn 함량과 콩 종실의 수확량, 단백질 및 아미노산 함량을 조사하였다. 콩 종실 중의 Cd 함량은 0.02~0.05 mg/kg으로 기준치에 안전한 수준이었고, Pb 함량은 산업폐수 슬러지 45 Mg/ha를 제외하고 0.02~0.15 mg/kg으로 기준치에 적합하였다. 또한, 모든 중금속 축적률은 잎 또는 뿌리보다 식용부위인 콩 종실에서 상대적으로 낮았고, 슬러지 처리량의 증가에도 함량 변화는 적어 식용으로서 안전함을 확인하였다. 종실의 수확량은 1년차에 슬러지 처리군이 무처리군보다 높았지만 2년차에는 생활하수 슬러지의 경우 낮은 수확량을 보였고, 산업폐수 슬러지의 경우 유사한 수준 또는 감소하는 경향이었다. 생활하수 슬러지 처리에 따른 아미노산 함량은 glutamate 경우에만 슬러지 처리군이 무처리군보다 증가하는 경향이었다. 하지만 연용에 따른 변화는 12종에서만 무처리군보다 증가하고 있었다. 산업폐수 슬러지는 1년차의 경우 15종이 무처리군에서 가장 높았고, 2년차에서는 11.25 Mg/ha에서 17종 모두가 가장 높은 결과를 나타내었다. 결론적으로 콩 종실 중 중금속 축적량은 문제가 되지 않았으나 수량이 감소되는 점을 감안할 때 가장 적합한 슬러지 처리 수준은 11.25 Mg/ha임을 확인하였다.

Serological prevalence of brucellosis of cattle in selected dairy farms in Bangladesh

  • This study was conducted to investigate the status of brucellosis in dairy cattle from five selected dairy farms in the Mohammadpur Beribadh area of Bangladesh. A cross-sectional study was carried out from October 2010 to March 2011 in which a total of 334 serum samples from cattle in five herds were screened by the Rose-Bengal plate-agglutination test (RBPT) and the positives were confirmed using an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (I-ELISA). A structured questionnaire was used to collect epidemiological information describing the animals. Overall, 4.20% of the animals were RBPT positive, while subsequent confirmatory tests with I-ELISA revealed that the overall animal-level prevalence derived from the samples was 1.20%. Additionally, the prevalence was relatively higher in females than in males. A significant association was found between abortion, age of the animals, and the occurrence of brucellosis (p < 0.05). Considering the overall low prevalence of brucellosis in the selected farms in the present study, a brucellosis eradication program for dairy farms using a test-and-slaughter policy would be possible.

분자농업의 현황 및 전망 (Current status in molecular farming)

  • Molecular farming is production of pharmaceutically and industrially important proteins in plants. Plants and plant cell culture systems have been used as bio-factory to produce recombinant proteins such as monoclonal antibodies, enzymes, vaccines, hormones, interleukins, commercial enzymes and etc. The terms molecular farming, biofarming, molecular pharming, phytomanufacturing, recombinant or plant-made industrials, planta-pharma, plant bioreactors, plant biofactory, and pharmaceutical gardening are used interchangeably. Molecular farming can provide safe and inexpensive pharmaceutical proteins as well as commercial ones. In spite of several advantages of molecular farming such as safety and inexpensive cost, there are also a couple of drawbacks in the existing technology. One of them is low expression level of target gene in plants, which has been improved by optimizing gene-based codon usage, screening of strong promoters, expression of transcription factors, subcellular targeting of target proteins, chloroplast transformation, and transient expression using viral expression system (magnifection). Some plant-based commercial proteins have already been in markets and more than twenty plant-based pharmaceuticals have been in clinical trials, from that we can expect that several plant-based pharmaceutical proteins will be seen in the markets in the near future.

작업대 수평유지식 과수원 고소작업차 개발 (Development of a Lifting Utility with Balance-controlled Platform)

  • Facing the current hikes of labor wage and high oil price, it is needed to have energy-saving machinery which also enables us precise farm operations. Thus, it was necessary to develop a safe machine which allows secure and pleasant works along orchard slopes. In this study, a lifting utility with balance-controlled platform was developed. The platform utility could maintain to level the workbench while driving along slopes. Even the machine body was driven at the tilt angle ranges of ${\pm}20^{\circ}$, the platform bench could be maintained within ${\pm}0.5^{\circ}$ of a gimbal angle. In addition, the machine lifted up to 2.0 m using an electric-hybrid driving mechanism with a low noise. A tandem hybrid power source was developed with a DC 72 V, 100 AH for the Deep-Cycle batteries, charged with 3.5 kW gasoline generator as an auxiliary power source. HST, which is one of the CVT's, was adopted as a transmission device, and a crawer track was used for the safety of the vehicle against tip-over. The maximum lifting height of platform was is 2,500 mm, and the maximum extendable width was 2,900 mm.

Analysis of the Result of Korean Medicine Treatment for Female Subfertility Using Herbal Medicine, Acupuncture and Moxibustion Treatment

  • Objectives: To report on the result of infertility treatment with Korean medicine in clinical settings. Methods: This study was single arm, retrospective observational study. Analysis of the medical records on thirty four infertile women who were treated by acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine(Jokyungjongoktang-gagambang, Sutaehwan-gagambang). Pregnancy rate(PR) and Live birth rate(LBR) were analyzed as the primary outcomes. Changes of AMH, FSH, LH, $E_2$, $P_4$, endometrial thickness, fat mass, and BMI were also analyzed as the secondary outcomes. Results: A total of 34 patients were treated in the traditional Korean medical clinic. Nine patients were dropped, and 25 subjects completed the final examination at the end of this treatment schedule. Five of 25 subjects conceived during treatment, reaching 20% PR and LBR was also 20%. Except for FSH level, the results of the remaining outcome measures, including LFT, showed no significant changes. No serious adverse event has been reported. Conclusion: Although no significant changes in bio-markers were observed, complex treatment using Korean medicine has shown effectiveness on women's infertility. In addition, the safety of the treatment has been verified.

Characteristics of bovine pulmonary parasites in Bangladesh

  • In a cross-sectional abattoir survey of bovine pulmonary diseases in Mymensingh, during September 2001 to April 2002, subclinical Dictyocaulus viviparous infection was found in mesoendemic level in Bangladeshi adult zebu cattle. The number of mature lung worms varied from $1{\sim}18$ in individual lungs. One to five mature lung worms were most frequent (74.2%) followed by 6 to 10(19.3%) and $11{\sim}18$ (6.5%). Of the total 123 mature worms collected from 31 lungs, there were 50 (40.7%) male and 73 (59.3%) female worms. The female lungworms (mean length 14.41mm) were significantly (P<0.01) larger than the male lungworms (mean length 11.28mm). The number of hydatid cysts varied from $1{\sim}80$ in individual lungs. One to five ($1{\sim}5$) cysts were recorded most commonly (76.0%) followed by $11{\sim}80$ (20.0%) and $6{\sim}10$ (4%). The size (diameter) of the hydatid cysts ranged from $2{\sim}12cm$. Of the total 203 hydatid cysts collected from 31 lungs 45 (22.2%) cysts were fertile and 158 (77.8%) cyst were sterile.

Mercury poisoning in Eurasian river otter (Lutra lutra)

  • An adult male Eurasian river otter (Lutra lutra) with ataxia and lethargy was rescued. Through the necropsy of this otter with neurological symptoms, a broad range of vascular damage caused by mercury toxicity in several organs, hepatocellular necrosis, and vacuolation in the brain. In mercury examination, liver, kidney, and hair showed values of 0.878 ± 0.027, 1.807 ± 0.049, and 5.712 ± 0.102 ㎍/g, respectively. Compared with certified reference material, it was confirmed that the concentration of mercury were 6.7 times, 13.7 times, and 43.3 times higher, respectively. When the symptoms and diagnosis results were comprehensively reviewed, this otter's demise was revealed due to mercury poisoning. The mercury concentration in the liver does not exceed the lowest observed effect level of 3.4 ㎍/g. However, even at low concentrations, long-term accumulation can cause symptoms including neuropathy, and the possibility that these heavy metals have accumulated in other wild animals cannot be ruled out. It seems that continuous monitoring using sentinel animals is necessary.

우리나라 주요 산약 재배지 GAP와 관련된 재배환경 실태 (Cultivation Environment in Relation to Good Agricultural Practices in the Major Cultivation Area of Disocorea batatas)

  • 본 연구는 산약(Disocorea batatas)을 대상으로 토양 및 관개용수의 질 평가, 화학비료 및 퇴비의 사용실태 그리고 잡초 및 병해충 실태에 대한 현장 및 설문조사를 통하여 생산단계에서 good agriculture practices (GAP) 기반조성에 유용한 데이터를 제시하고자 하였다. 산약 재배지 토양과 관개용수 중 카드뮴, 납, 구리 및 아연 모두 자연함유량 수준으로 조사되었다. 산약재배지 관개용수 가운데 총질소는 대부분의 조사지점에서 기준치를 초과하였으나 총인은 기준치 이하로 나타났다. 산약 재배지에 화학비료와 퇴비가 복합적으로 과량 투입되고 있음이 현장 설문조사에서 나타나 최적의 양분종합관리 프로그램의 도입이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 산약 재배지에서 우점 잡초는 바랭이(Digitaria sanguinalis), 쇠비름(Portulaca oleracea) 그리고 깨풀(Acalypha australis)로 나타났으며, 제초제 처리횟수는 1년에 2회 처리가 가장 많았고, 일부 농가에서는 4회까지 처리하는 경우도 있었다. 또한 산약 재배지에서 병해는 탄저병과 잎마름병이 주로 발생하였고, 해충으로는 응애가 주로 출현하는 것으로 조사되었다. 병해충 방제 목적으로 살충제나 살균제를 연 4~5회 처리하고 있었다. 산약의 안전성과 지속적인 농업생산성을 유지하기 위해서는 화학비료와 농약의 저투입이 필요하며, 궁극적으로는 유기농업에 의한 우수 산약의 재배기술 개발이 이루어져야 할 것이다.

Recent Development of Rapid and Automation Technology for Food Microbiological Examination

  • Interests in the field of rapid methods and automation in microbiology have been growing steadily on an international scale in recent years. International meetings concerned this problem have been held in elsewhere in the world countries since the past twenty years. But, unfortunately in the field of microbial examination in food hygiene, this problem have not yet been developed so much as in the field of clinical microbiology. Today, I would like to introduce you here present aspects of rapid and automation technologies, those which are manly carrying in milk and meats industries. My illustration will be given recent improved technologies using automatic apparatus and instruments along with process of microbial count procedure. Recent direct microbiological counting system (ChemeScan \ulcorner) as real time ultrasensitive analysis created by Cheminex Ltd., France is now most evolutional instrument to provide direct microbial counts, down to one cell, within 30 minutes. The results from these evaluations how a good correlation between the ChemScan system and the standard plate count method. This system will be successful application for not only in the field of pharmacology but also food microbiology. In addition, current identification of microbes by sophisticated instruments suitable for food microbiology, one of which Biology is manual system (BIOLOG\ulcorner), provides reference-level capability at a modes price. For the manual system, the color reactions in the microplate are read by eye and manually keyed into personal computer. Species identification appears on the computer screen within seconds, along with biotype patterns, a list of closely related species, and other useful statistics. In present this is useful application for microbial ecology and epidemiological survey. RiboPrinter system newly produced by DuPont is now focusing among microbiologists in the world, and is one of the biggest microbial characterization system using a DNA-based approach. The technology analyzer is bacterial culture for its genetic fingerprint or riboprint pattern. Finally Bio-cellTracer system for automatic measurement of fungal growth and Fukitori-Maseter, a Surface Hygiene Monitoring Kit by using swabe procedure in food processing environment are briefly illustrated in this presentation.
