  • Adsorption of toluene by activated carbon fiber (ACF) coated with dielectric heating element and desorption by applying microwave were investigated. In order to prepare adsorbent so that VOC can be desorbed by microwave heating, fine dielectric heating element with nano size was coated on the surface of the ACF using hybrid binder. Eight adsorbents (ACF-DHE, Activated Carbon Fiber coated with Dielectric Heating Element) were prepared with different amount of dielectric heating element, kinds of hybrid binder, and solvent. In order to investigate adsorption characteristics, BET surface area, pore volume, and average pore size were measured for each adsorbent including ACF. Breakthrough experiments with toluene concentration, flow rate, bed length using fixed bed reactor were performed to investigate adsorbality of adsorbent, and results were compared with that of the ACF. Desorption reactor was constructed with modified microwave oven to investigate heating effect on ACF-DHE by applying microwave power. Each adsorbent saturated with toluene were put into desorption reactor. Composition of desorbed gas generated by applying controlled microwave power to reactor was measured. Up to now, hot air desorption method has been used. Experimental results showed that desorption method with new adsorbent prepared by coating dielectric heating element on ACF can be used for industrial application.

  • The current investigation aims to study performance of geopolymer mortar reinforced with Multiwalled carbon nanotubes upon exposure to $200^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. MWCNTs are doped into slag Geopolymer mortar matrices in the ratio of 0.0 to 0.4, % by weight of binder. Mortar composed of calcium aluminosilicate to sand (1:2), however, binder composed of 50% air cooled slag and 50% water cooled slag. Various water / binder ratios in the range of 0.114-0.129 used depending on the added MWCNT, while 6 wt., % sodium hydroxide used as an alkali activator. Results illustrate reduction in mechanical strength with temperature except specimens containing 0.1 and 0.2% MWCNT at $200^{\circ}C$, while further increase in temperature leads to decrease in strength values of the resulting geopolymer mortar. Also, decrease in firing shrinkage with MWCNT up to 0.1% at all firing temperatures up to $500^{\circ}C$ is observed, however the shrinkage values increase with temperature up to $500^{\circ}C$. Further increase on the firing temperature up to $1000^{\circ}C$ results in an increase in the volume due to expansion.

  • In this research, by examining the influence that high quality fine aggregate and low quality fine aggregate have on the strength of concrete through tests, the manifest strength of concrete according to high quality fine aggregate was reviewed. The results showed that compared to low quality fine aggregate usage mixture, the unit volume to achieve the same liquidity decreased and accordingly the W/B also decreased therefore increasing the strength of concrete, and as high quality fine aggregate was used, it is determined that there can be improvements to the economically feasibility of usage mixture and improvement in durability etc.

  • Alkali-activated binder (AAB) is increasingly being considered as an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to portland cement (PC). The present study evaluates 30 different AAB mixtures containing fly ash and/or slag activated by sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate by correlating their properties from micro to specimen level using regression. A model is developed to predict compressive strength of AAB as a function of volume fractions of microstructural phases (physicochemical properties) and ultrasonic pulse velocity (elastic properties and density). The predicted models are ranked and then compared with the experimental data. The correlations were found to be quite reasonable (R2 = 0.89) for all the mixtures tested and can be used to estimate the compressive strengths for similar AAB mixtures.

  • This study is the experimental results on the flowing properties of the super flowing concrete (SFC) using limestone (LS), which is to develop the SFC in level of ordinary strength. And this study is described with respect to basic concept, confined water ratio ($\beta_p$) of binder (cement+limestone) in paste, relationship between volume ratio of water-binder (w/b) and addition ratio of superplasticizer in mortar, flowing velocity and funneling time and compressive strength in concrete to replacement ratio of LS. The results of this study is improved to flowing properties in fleshly concrete with increasing replacement ratio of LS. The optimal mixing condition of the SFC using LS in level of ordinary strength is proved W/C 55%, LS 40% and W/C 60%, LS 50%.

  • Mixing of ceramic-binder system was investigated experimentally and theoretically for application to Ceramic Injection Molding. Polypropylene, stearic acid, and paraffin wax were selected as the binder system, and silicon nitride fine powders were selected as the ceramic material. Single screw ectruder was employed as the mixing equipment. Theoretical analysis was performed to investigate the mixedness of mixture quantitatively. The analysis predicted average residence time average total strain, and average shear stress as a function of screw speed for mixtures of different volume fraction. Qualitative mixedness of mixture and characteristics of mixing were investigated by using SEM and EPMA. In addition, rheological properties of the mixture were investigated by using a capillary rheometer to examine possibility of injection molding.

  • In this study, viscosity analysis of the lightweight foamed mortar was conducted to evaluate the foam stability. According to a series of experiment, void volume related with density of the mixture and viscosity of the mixture were infleunced by water-to-binder ratio and addition of viscosity modifying admixture (VMA). Especially, the stability of the foam inside the mortar was confirmed with adding VMA.

  • Tablet product design problem was structured as constrained optimization problem and subsequently solved by multiple regression analysis and Lagrangian method of optimization. Aluminum flufenamate was the drug chosen and microcrystalline cellulose nad starch were the binder and disintegrant, respectivley. The effect of the binder and disintegrant concentration on tablet hardness, friability, volume, in vitro release rate, and urinary excretion rate of drug in human subjects was recorded. Since a reasonably rapid release rate of drug is generally an important objective in the design of solid dosage form, optimization of this parameter was employed in studying the applicability of constrained optimization to a pharmaceutical product design problem. In addition to finding optimal sitivity analysis studies to such problems was also illustratd. It would appear that prediction of the in vivo t$_{50%}$ response from a knowledge of the incitro t$_{50%}$ response can be made fairly accurately for the tablet system used in this study.

  • Shell sand is widely used to make a complex shape castings due to its good collapsibility. When molten metal is poured into the mold, various gases are generated by the thermal decomposition of binder in the shell core. Casting defects such as blow hole and blister come from these gases. If it is possible to predict the evolution of gas quantitatively, it may provide effective solutions for minimizing the casting defects. To examine the gas evolution by shell core quantitatively, casting experiment and calculation were carried out. Gas pressure and gas volume evolved by shell core were measured in the experiment, and temperature distribution in the shell core was obtained by heat transfer analysis. From the result above, prediction on the gas volume evolved during pouring was tried. As forming pressure of the shell core increased and forming temperature decreased, the gas evolution increased. There was a close relationship between the calculated gas volume evolved and the measured one.
