  • Binary nanoemulsions which are defined as the, oil-droplet suspensions in binary solution ($H_2O$/LiBr), are developed to enhance the heat and mass transfer performance of absorption refrigeration systems. In this study, a novel two-step method is proposed to prepare the stable oil-in-binary solution (O/S) emulsion. Polymer is used as a steric stabilizer to stabilize the oil-droplets in a strong electrolyte ($H_2O$/LiBr). It is found that the thermal conductivity of the binary nanoemulsion is inversely proportional to the emulsion size while the concentrations of oil and $H_2O$/LiBr are less dominant for the thermal conductivity of binary nanoemulsions.

  • Binary nanofluids(Binary mixture + nanoparticles) have been extensively paid attention for application in absorption system as a new working fluid. Thermal property evaluation of the new refrigerants is inevitable to apply them for actual system. The objectives of this paper are to measure the thermal conductivity of the binary nanofluids by the transient hot-wire method, and to assess the application possibility of the binary nanofluids for absorption system. It was found that the thermal conductivity of the binary nanofluids ($H_2O/LiBrAl_2O_3$) increased with increasing the concentration of the nanoparticles ($Al_2O_3$) and enhanced up to 27% at 0.1 vol % of the nanoparticles.

  • Given binary operations "*" and "$\circ$" on a set X, define a product binary operation "$\Box$" as follows: $x{\Box}y\;:=\;(x\;{\ast}\;y)\;{\circ}\;(y\;{\ast}\;x)$. This in turn yields a binary operation on Bin(X), the set of groupoids defined on X turning it into a semigroup (Bin(X), $\Box$)with identity (x * y = x) the left zero semigroup and an analog of negative one in the right zero semigroup (x * y = y). The composition $\Box$ is a generalization of the composition of functions, modelled here as leftoids (x * y = f(x)), permitting one to study the dynamics of binary systems as well as a variety of other perspectives also of interest.

  • In this paper we propose a novel volume hologram encryption system with binary amplitude masks rather than phase masks, in which volume holograms can be securely recorded against the attacks by a third party. In our system, the encryption is done by multiplexing two volume holograms in such a way that an original binary data page is first stored as a volume hologram by interference with a binary amplitude mask and then the complementary data page is stored as another volume hologram by interference with the complementary binary amplitude mask over the first hologram. The operation principle of our system is explained with the well-known theory of recording and reading a volume hologram in a photorefractive material and the experimental results are presented. Experimental data show that our encryption system is protected from blind decryptions by randomly-generated incorrect amplitude masks.

  • One of the distinctive characteristics of the evolution of binary systems would be mass transfer. Close binary systems experience so-called Case A mass transfer during the main-sequence. We have performed calculations of the evolution of massive Case A (with the initial period 1.5 ~ 4.5 days) binary systems with the initial mass of 10 ~ 20 solar masses and mass ratio 0.5 ~ 0.95 using the MESA code. We find that in some systems, after the first mass transfer, the secondary stars evolve faster than the primary stars and undergo so-called 'reverse' mass transfer. Such phenomena tend to occur in relatively low-mass (initial mass < 16 solar masses) and close (initial period < 3 day) systems. Unless a system enters the common-envelope phase, the primary star would become a single helium star after the secondary star ends its life if the system were unbound by the neutron star kick. We find the various evolutionary implications of the remaining primary stars. In addition to the evolution into the compact single helium star progenitor, there is a possibility that the remaining primary star could evolve into a helium giant star, which could be a promising candidate for Type Ibn supernova progenitor, depending on the core mass. Further, we find that some primary stars satisfy the conditions for the formation of electron-capture supernova progenitor.

  • Conceptual modeling is well suited as a subject that constitutes the "core" of the Information Systems (IS) discipline and has grown in response to IS development. Several modeling grammars and methods have been studied extensively in the IS discipline. Previous studies, however, present deficiencies in research methods and even put forward contradictory results about the ternary relationship in conceptual modeling. For instance, some studies contend that the semantics of a binary relationship are better for novices, but others argue that a ternary relationship is better than three binary relationships when the association among three entity types clearly exists. The objective of this research is to acquire complete and accurate understanding of the ternary relationship, specifically to understand practitioners' modeling performance when utilizing either a ternary or binary relationship. To the best of our knowledge, no previous work clearly compares real-world modeler performance differences between binary and ternary representations. By investigating practitioners' understanding of ternary relationship and identifying practitioners' cognition, this research can broaden the perspective on conceptual modeling.

  • We have presented the evolutionary status of four detached double line spectroscopic eclipsing binaries which are CD Tau, CM Lac, HS Hya and ZZ Boo because the component stars of these binary systems still act as a single star. We determined the absolute dimensions of these binary systems using photometric and spectroscopic solutions from analysis of light curves and radial velocity curves. Using the luminosities, effective temperatures and masses we choose evolutionary tracks of these binary systems. Finally we obtained ages and metallicity of the stars. We found that CM Lac and HS Hya are very young stars and their ages are in range of 0.15-1.05 and 0.22-1.14 Gyrs. For CD Tau and ZZ Boo, they are older than the others and their age in range of 1.95-2.95 and 1.48-1.73 Gyrs.

  • In this paper, we analyze and simulate performance of space time block coded (STBC) binary pulse amplitude modulation-direct sequence (BPAM-DS) ultra-wideband (UWB) systems with double binary turbo code in indoor environments for various ubiquitous healthcare (u-healthcare) applications. Indoor wireless channel is modeled as a modified Saleh and Valenzuela (SV) model proposed as a UWB indoor channel model by the IEEE 802.15.SG3a in July 2003. In the STBC encoding process, an Alamouti algorithm for real-valued signals is employed because UWB signals have the type of real signal constellation. It is assumed that the transmitter has knowledge about channel state information. From simulation results, it is shown that the STBC scheme does not have an influence on improving bit error probability performance of the BPAM-DS UWB systems. It is also confirmed that the results of this paper can be applicable for u-healthcare applications.

  • The applicability of the combined nearly ideal binary solvent/Redlich-Kister (CNIBS/R-K) equation for correlation of various solvatochromic parameters (SP) with composition is shown employing 84 experimental data sets for aqueous and organic binary solvent systems at temperatures ranging 15 to $75^{\circ}C$. The model provides a simple computational model to correlate/predict different SP values in various binary solvent systems. In proposed equations, $MPD_s$ (mean percentage deviations) are between 0.0500% and 6.9591% in mixtures of dimethyl sulfoxide with 2-methylpropan-2-ol and benzene with 2-methylpropan-2-ol, respectively. Correlation of the calculated and experimental values of various SP give an equation with an overall mean percentage deviation (OMPD) of 1.1900, $R^2$ = 0.99692, s.e = 0.01223 and F = 341925.51. Approximately 70% of the calculated SP values have IPD (individual percentage deviation) lower than one and it is possible to predict unmeasured SP values by using only eight experimental data.
