Recognition of human motions has become a main area of computer vision due to its potential human-computer interface (HCI) and surveillance. Among those existing recognition techniques for human motions, head detection and tracking is basis for all human motion recognitions. Various approaches have been tried to detect and trace the position of human head in two-dimensional (2D) images precisely. However, it is still a challenging problem because the human appearance is too changeable by pose, and images are affected by illumination change. To enhance the performance of head detection and tracking, the real-time three-dimensional (3D) data acquisition sensors such as time-of-flight and Kinect depth sensor are recently used. In this paper, we propose an effective feature extraction method, called adaptive local binary pattern (ALBP), for depth image based applications. Contrasting to well-known conventional local binary pattern (LBP), the proposed ALBP cannot only extract shape information without texture in depth images, but also is invariant distance change in range images. We apply the proposed ALBP for head detection and tracking in depth images to show its effectiveness and its usefulness.
This paper proposes a novel binary ant colony optimization (NBACO) method. The proposed NBACO is based on the concept and principles of ant colony optimization (ACO), and developed to solve the binary and combinatorial optimization problems. The concept of conventional ACO is similar to Heuristic Dynamic Programming. Thereby ACO has the merit that it can consider all possible solution sets, but also has the demerit that it may need a big memory space and a long execution time to solve a large problem. To reduce this demerit, the NBACO adopts the state probability matrix and the pheromone intensity matrix. And the NBACO presents new updating rule for local and global search. The proposed NBACO is applied to test power systems of up to 100-unit along with 24-hour load demands.
Massive binary stars lose mass by two mechanisms: jet-driven mass loss during periods of active mass transfer and by wind-driven mass loss. Beta Lyrae is an eclipsing, semi-detached binary whose state of active mass transfer provides a unique opportunity to study how the evolution of binary systems is affected by jet-driven mass loss. Roche lobe overflow from the primary star feeds the thick accretion disk which almost completely obscures the mass-gaining star. A hot spot predicted to be on the edge of the accretion disk may be the source of beta Lyrae's bipolar outflows. I present results from spectropolarimetric data taken with the University of Wisconsin's Half-Wave Spectropolarimeter and the Flower and Cook Observatory's photoelastic modulating polarimeter instrument which have implications for our current understanding of the system's disk geometry. Using broadband polarimetric analysis, I derive new information about the structure of the disk and the presence and location of a hot spot. These results place constraints on the geometrical distribution of material in beta Lyrae and can help quantify the amount of mass lost from massive interacting binary systems during phases of mass transfer and jet-driven mass loss.

At the ubiquitous age, applications of Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) technology using LEDs are in progress. However, visible light communication using LED have weakness, which deteriorates performance of communication. To reduce information losses, which is caused by optical noise, such as incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, sunbeam etc., proposed channel coding scheme, double binary turbo codes. In this paper, encoding scheme of the proposed system is described and simulation results are analyzed. We had expected improved performance by using double binary turbo codes. Finally, performances of the proposed system came up to our expectations.

The excess molar enthalpies $H_m^E$ at T=298.15 K and p=101.3 kPa of ternary system {1,2-dichloropropane (1,2-DCP) + 1,3-dioxolane+ 1,4-dioxane} were predicted by using the binary contribution model of $Radojkovi{\check{c}}$ with correlated sub-binary Redlich-Kister parameters. Excess partial molar enthalpies ${\bar{H}}_i^E$ were also calculated for the binary systems {1,2-dichloropropane + 1,3-dioxolane}, {1,2-dichloropropane + 1,4-dioxane} and {1,3-dioxolane + 1,4-dioxane} using adjustable parameters of Redlich-Kister equation. By extrapolation of excess partial molar enthalpies to infinite dilution, limiting excess partial molar enthalpies ${\bar{H}}_i^{E,{\infty}}$ of each component were also obtained. The ternary excess molar enthalpies excess partial molar enthalpies of these sub-binary systems have been calculated by using our previously reported results.

In this paper, we presents a pattern recognition by considering the spatial co-occurrence among micro-patterns of texture images. The micro-patterns of texture image have been extracted by local binary pattern based on median(MLBP) of block image, and the recognition process is based on co-occurrence among MLBPs. The MLBP is applied not only to consider the local character but also analyze the pattern in order to be robust noise, and spatial co-occurrence is also applied to improve the recognition performance by considering the global space of image. The proposed method has been applied to recognized 17 RGB images of 120*120 pixels from Mayang texture image based on Euclidean distance. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a texture recognition performance.
We attempt to investigate the main reason of the asymmetrical light curves of contact and near-contact eclipsing binary base on the hypothesis that cool spot was produced on late type star while hot spot was produced from transferred material from their companion star hitting surface. We select 7 eclipsing binary systems which showed asymmetric light curves and mass transfer. Period variation and mass transfer rate were obtained from O-C diagram. Radial velocity curves and light curves of those 7 eclipsing binary system were adopted from available literature in order to obtain the absolute dimension. For four contact eclipsing binary system (AD Phe, EZ Hya, AG Vir and VW Boo), their component stars belonged to spectral type G to K was fitted by cool spot model. While the other two near-contact systems (RT Scl and V1010 Oph) and one contact system (SV Cen) was fitted by cool spot model. The densities of the materials are adopted from stellar model which calculate by stellar structure code. The calculated spot temperature turns out to agree with the photometric solution but there are no correlate between period variation rate and type of spot.
Vapor liquid equilibria were measured for the binary systems of ditetrahydrofurfurylpropane (DTHFP) and some solvents such as cyclohexane, n-heptane, tetrahydrofuran, and water. Binary vapor liquid equilibria were measured for the diluted concentration range of DTHFP. NRTL model was used to analyze the measured data. With the experimental data, binary interaction parameters of the NRTL model were regressed.

In todays security industry, personal identification is also based on biometric. Biometric identification is performed basing on the measurement and comparison of physiological and behavioral characteristics, Biometric for recognition includes voice dynamics, signature dynamics, hand geometry, fingerprint, iris, etc. Iris can serve as a kind of living passport or living password. Iris recognition system is the one of the most reliable biometrics recognition system. This is applied to client/server system such as the electronic commerce and electronic banking from stand-alone system or networks, ATMs, etc. A new algorithm using nonlinear function in recognition process is proposed in this paper. An algorithm is proposed to determine the localized iris from the iris image received from iris input camera in client. For the first step, the algorithm determines the center of pupil. For the second step, the algorithm determines the outer boundary of the iris and the pupillary boundary. The localized iris area is transform into polar coordinates. After performing three times Wavelet transformation, normalization was done using sigmoid function. The converting binary process performs normalized value of pixel from 0 to 255 to be binary value, and then the converting binary process is compare pairs of two adjacent pixels. The binary code of the iris is transmitted to the by server. the network. In the server, the comparing process compares the binary value of presented iris to the reference value in the University database. Process of recognition or rejection is dependent on the value of Hamming Distance. After matching the binary value of presented iris with the database stored in the server, the result is transmitted to the client.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to perform convolution, pooling, and ReLU operations in CNN using binary image and binary kernel. It decomposes 256 gray-scale images into 8 bit planes and uses a binary kernel consisting of -1 and 1. The convolution operation of binary image and binary kernel is performed by addition and subtraction. Logically, it is a binary operation algorithm using the XNOR and comparator. ReLU and pooling operations are performed by using XNOR and OR logic operations, respectively. Through the experiments to verify the usefulness of the proposed algorithm, We confirm that the CNN operation can be performed by converting it to binary logic operation. It is an algorithm that can implement deep running even in a system with weak computing power. It can be applied to a variety of embedded systems such as smart phones, intelligent CCTV, IoT system, and autonomous car.
