  • It is very important that predict the inelastic seismic behavior exactly for seismic performance evaluation of a building in the performance based seismic design. But, it is difficulty that predict the building behavior of actual and exact in simplified load-deformation relation of structural material and members. In this study, system ductility and story ductility capacity of building structure used to the Backbone hinge Model are estimated and compared considering the characteristics of load-deformation relation of structural material and members. Analyses results, bilinear hinge model has lower system ductility and story ductility demands than those of backbone hinge model.

  • The objective of the study in this paper was to develop a beam-column element to model members with purely flexural yielding, as well as members with yielding under combined flexure and axial force during severe earthquake ground motins. The developed element can be considered as an one-component series hinge type model. It has the capability to model plastic axial deformation and changes in axial stiffness, and employs hardening rules to handle monotonic, cyclic or arbitrary loading. In general, when compared to experimental results and fiber model predictions, the element showed significantly better performance than the bilinear hinger model and could properly model the beam-column behavior of bare steel members in moment resisting frames. The developed element can more accurately predict local deformation demands and overall responses of structural systems under earthquake loadings than the bilinear hinge element.

  • Recently, the serious damage by earthquakes is increased around the world. SOC fo city is established to minimize the loss of lives and assets by earthquakes, which an objective standard is required. Generally, bridges damage by earthquakes occurred the inelastic hinge under the column. Nonlinear element model of inelastic hinge have been used to Bilinear model, but Takeda model for material characterization of concrete is a little. In this study, railway bridge was performed seismic fragility analysis for Takeda model and Bilinear model comparatively. This analysis shows that damage probability of Takeda model is larger than Bilinear model. And analysis of Takeda model in longitudinal direction and transverse direction are different. Therefore developed analysis for concrete column of bridge is expected to apply to material characterization.

  • Aeroelastic characteristics of a deployable missile control fin have been investigated. A deployable missile control fin is modeled by a 2-dimensional typical section. Supersonic Doublet-Point method is used for the computation of supersonic unsteady aerodynamic forces and Karpel's Minimum-State approximation is used for the aerodynamic approximation. Root-locus method and time-integration method are used for the linear and nonlinear flutter analyses. For the nonlinear flutter analysis the deployable hinge is represented by a asymmetric bilinear spring and is linearized by using the describing function method. From the flutter analyses, the effects of nonlinear parameters on the aeroelastic characteristics are investigated.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate elasto-plastic behaviour and estimate ultimate resistance capacity of the residential-commercial building subjected to lateral force along the height of structure. Four types of residential-commercial building are chosen as analytical models and investigated by pushover analysis. Pushover analysis estimates initial elastic stiffness, post-yielding stiffness, and plastic hinges on each story of structures through three-dimensional nonlinear analysis program CANNY-99. Skeleton curve of bending stiffness model is bilinear, shear stiffness model is trilinear, and axial stiffness model is elastic. Skeleton curve of axial stiffness model has the axial compression and tension stiffness of reinforced concrete members. This study presents the change of inter story drift, story stiffness and hinge of story and member.

  • In this paper an analytical model in a closed form able to reproduce the monotonic flexural response of external RC beam-column joints with smooth rebars is presented. The column is subjected to a constant vertical load and the beam to a monotonically increasing lateral force applied at the tip. The model is based on the flexural behavior of the beam and the column determined adopting a concentrated plasticity hinge model including slippage of the main reinforcing bars of the beam. A simplified bilinear moment-axial force domain is assumed to derive the ultimate moment associated with the design axial force. For the joint, a simple truss model is adopted to predict shear strength and panel distortion. Experimental data recently given in the literature referring to the load-deflection response of external RC joints with smooth rebars are utilized to validate the model, showing good agreement. Finally, the proposed model can be considered a useful instrument for preliminary static verification of existing external RC beam-column joints with smooth rebars for both strength and ductility verification.
