The bilayer forming ability of pseudo-ceramide PC104 in octanoic acid/water/n-octyl $\beta$-D-glucoside mixtures was investigated through the phase diagram. Because of its low solubility in water and of its crystallization, pseudoceramide PC104 was dissolved in octanoic acid, which is nontoxic additive for foods and cosmetics. The mixtures formed four different phases (L1, L2, LC and two phases). Depending on the concentration of PC104 in octanoic acid, the region of each phase was extended or contracted. On the contrary to the region of L2, regions of lamellar phase and L1 phase were expanded. The bilayer-forming ability of PC104 was explained on the basis of concentration of PC104 at interface and interaction between PC104 and octanoic acid. From FT-IR results, it was found that the interactions of PC104’s polar head group with octanoic acid increased as the amount of PC104 in octanoic acid increased. Also emulsion size and size distribution have been studied depending upon the emulsification path. droplets of emulsion prepared from lamellar phase were smaller and more homogeneous compared to those of emulsions formed from L2 phase.
In this paper, we have evaluated the physical characteristicsof the Pt/Cr bilayer, fabricated the micro hot plate by using the Pt/Cr bilayer and E-beam evaporated oxide as a passivation layer, and simulated the thermal distribution by using the commercial software FIDAP. From the researches the sheet resistance of Pt/Cr bilayer didn't be affected by the Cr layer thickness. This results was considered due to the Cr-oxide resided at the interface between Pt and Cr layer. After manufacturing the hot plate, we measured its temperature by type k thermo-couple and I.R. thermo-vision system. In those experiments, the emission coefficient( ${\varepsilon}$ ) of the E-beam evaporated oxide was 0.5 and the temperature of centural region was reached about $305\;^{\circ}C$ at 1.3 watts. The temperature simulation obtained by FIDAP commercial package stewed that the temperature of centural region was about $311\;^{\circ}C$ after 5 sec.
We have performed molecular dynamics simulations of atomistic models of $C_{60}$ molecules and DMPC bilayer membranes to study the static and dynamic effects of carbon nanoparticles on biological membranes. All four $C_{60}$-membrane systems were investigated representing dilute and concentrated solutions of $C_{60}$ residing either inside or outside the membrane. The concentrated $C_{60}$ molecules in water phase start forming an aggregated cluster. Due to its heavy mass, the cluster tends to adhere on the surface of the bilayer membrane, hindering both translational and rotational diffusion of individual $C_{60}$. On the other hand, once $C_{60}$ molecules accumulate inside the membrane, they are well dispersed in the central region of the bilayer membrane. Because of the homogeneous dispersion of $C_{60}$ inside the membrane, each leaflet is pushed away from the center, making the bilayer membrane thicker. This thickening of the membrane provides more room for both translational and rotational motions of $C_{60}$ inside the membrane compared to that in the water region. As a result, the dynamics of $C_{60}$ inside the membrane becomes faster with increasing its concentration.
$SiO_2$ and polycrystalline Si layers were sequentially grown on (100) Si. NiSi was formed on this substrate from a 20nm Ni layer or a 20nm Ni/5nm Ti bilayer by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) at $300~500^{\circ}C$ to compare thermal stability. In addition, MOS capacitors were fabricated by depositing a 20nm Ni layer on the Poly-Si/$SiO_2$substrate, RTA at $400^{\circ}C$ to form NiSi, $BF_2$ or As implantation and finally drive- in annealing at $500~800^{\circ}C$ to evaluate electrical characteristics. When annealed at $400^{\circ}C$, NiSi made from both a Ni monolayer and a Ni/Ti bilayer showed excellent thermal stability. But NiSi made from a Ni/Ti bilayer was thermally unstable at $500^{\circ}C$. This was attributed to the formation of insignificantly small amount of NiSi due to suppressed Ni diffusion through the Ti layer. PMOS and NMOS capacitors made by using a Ni monolayer and the SADS(silicide as a dopant source) method showed good C-V characteristics, when drive-in annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ for 20sec., and$ 600^{\circ}C$ for 80sec. respectively.

The traditional formulations for estimation of bearing capacity in rock mechanics assume a homogeneous and isotropic rock mass. However, it is common that the rock mass consists of different layers of different rock properties or of the same rock matrix with distinct geotechnical quality levels. The bearing capacity of a heterogeneous rock is estimated traditionally through the weighted average. In this paper, the solution of the weighted average is compared to the finite difference method applied to a bilayer rock mass. The influence of different parameters such as the thickness of the layers, the rock type, the uniaxial compressive strength and the overall geotechnical quality of the rock mass on the bearing capacity of a bilayer rock mass is analyzed. A parametric study by finite difference method is carried out to develop a bearing capacity factor in function of the layer thickness and the rock mass quality expressed in terms of the geological strength index, which is presented in a form of a chart. Therefore, this correlation factor allows estimating the bearing capacity of a rock mass that is formed by two layers with distinct GSI, depending on the bearing capacity of the rock mass formed only by the upper layer and considered by that way as homogenous and isotropic rock mass.
The effect of phenothiazine derivatives on the thermotropic transition of liposomal lipid bilayer made of dipalmitoyl phosphatidylchline and dipalmitoyl phosphatidic acid was investigated with differential scanning calorimetry. The thermograms of the liposomal bilayer incorporated with levomepromazine, chlopromazine, prochloperazine, perphenazine and fluphenazine were obtained and the size of cooperative unit of the transition were calculated from the ratio of the van't Hoff enthalpy change to the calculated enthalpy change of the transition. The results showed that incorporation of phenothiazine derivatives into the liposomal bilayer reduced the transition temperature at which the transition from solid state to liquid-crystalline state occurs, and broadened the thermogram peaks. Phenothiazine derivatives also significantly reduced the size of cooperative unit of the transition. The effect of the drugs was proportional to the concentration of the drug in the bilayer. This means that phenothiazine derivatives might have significant fluidizing effects on the biomembrane. The sizes of cooperative unit were successfully corrlated with phar-macological activities of the drugs and the surface pressure increases of lipid monolayer by these drugs. These correlations might be ascribed to a possible hydrophobic nature of interaction between the biomembrane and the drugs involved in their pharmacology.

CoSi$_2$/p+/n diodes(bilayer diodes) were fabricated by using epitaxial CoSi$_2$grown from Co/Ti bilayer as a diffusion source. The I-V characteristics of p+/n diodes were measured and compared with those of diode made from Co monolayer (monolayer diode). Monolayer diodes showed typical p+n junction characteristics with the leakage current of as low as 10$^{-12}$ A and forward current 6-orders higher than the leakage current, when drive-in annealed at 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 20 sec.. On the other hand, bilayer diodes showed the Schottky-like behaviors with forward currents rather higher than those of monolyer diodes, but with too high leakage currents, when drive-in annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ or higher. However, when the annealing temperature was lowered to $700^{\circ}C$ and annealing time was increased to 60 sec., the leakage current was reduced to 10$^{-11}$ A and thus sho3wed typical diode characteristics. The high leakage currents for diodes annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ or higher was attributed to Shannon contacts formed due to unremoved Co-Ti-Si precipitates. But when annealed at 50$0^{\circ}C$, B ions diffused in the direction of the surface layer, and thus the leakage currents were reduced by removing Shannon contacts.
We have fabricated flexible and stretchable pressure sensors using silver nanowires (AgNWs) and analyzed their electric responses. AgNWs are spray coated directly onto uncured polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) such that AgNWs penetrate into the uncured PDMS, enhancing the adhesion properties of AgNWs. However, the single-layered AgNW sensor exhibits unstable electric response and low pressure sensitivity. To tackle it, we have coated a conductive polymer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) onto the AgNW layer. Such a hybrid bilayer sensor ensures a stable electric response because the over-coating layer of PEDOT:PSS effectively suppresses the protrusion of AgNWs from PDMS during release. To enhance the sensitivity further, we have also fabricated a stacked bilayer AgNW sensor. However, its electric response varies depending sensitively on the initial overlap pressure.
Based on the theory of piezoelasticity, the static performance of a piezoelectric bilayer cantilever fully covered with electrodes on the upper and lower surfaces is studied. Three models are considered, i.e., the sensor model, the driving displacement model and the blocking force model. By establishing suitable boundary conditions and proposing an appropriate Airy stress function, the exact solutions for piezoelectric bilayer cantilevers are obtained, and the effect of ambient thermal excitation is taken into account. Since the layer thicknesses and material parameters are distinguished in different layers, this paper gives unified solutions for composite piezoelectric bilayer cantilevers including piezoelectric bimorph and piezoelectric heterogeneous bimorph, etc. For some special cases, the simplifications of the present results are compared with other solutions given by other researches based on one-dimensional constitutive equations, and some amendments have been found. The present investigation shows: (1) for a PZT-4 piezoelectric bimorph, the amendments of tip deflections induced by an end shear force, an end moment or an external voltage are about 19.59%, 23.72% and 7.21%, respectively; (2) for a PZT-4-Al piezoelectric heterogeneous bimorph with constant layer thicknesses, the amendments of tip deflections induced by an end shear force, an end moment or an external voltage are 9.85%, 11.78% and 4.07%, respectively, and the amendments of the electrode charges induced by an end shear force or an end moment are both 1.04%; (3) for a PZT-4-Al piezoelectric heterogeneous bimorph with different layer thicknesses, the maximum amendment of tip deflection approaches 23.72%, and the maximum amendment of electrode charge approaches 31.09%. The present solutions can be used to optimize bilayer devices, and the Airy stress function can be used to study other piezoelectric cantilevers including multi-layered piezoelectric cantilevers under corresponding loads.
